No human has ever returned from the depths of the northern forests.
Jane and her allies flee the aftermath of the harrowing events in the capital. Seeking refuge amidst the Great Woods to the north, rumored to have once been inhabited by the elves, she embarks on a perilous journey.
Yet, terrors lie cloaked in darkness amongst the shadows of this forbidden realm. Jane must fight for survival, defending herself and her companions. Will she uncover the secrets of the System that plague her thoughts? Or will the dangers lurking within conquer her, echoing the fate of those who came before her?
Meanwhile, across the political landscape of Arcadia, the repercussions of Jane's actions begin to unfold. Amidst the storms of change, all that Jane holds dear teeters on the brink of destruction.
Can Jane survive the consequences of her choices? As her powers continue to increase, a foreboding destiny unfurls, casting an ominous shadow over her path.
About the Judicator Jane is an isekai (portal fantasy) LitRPG set in an expansive universe rich with history. The forces of good and evil stand at the precipice of apocalypse. Will Jane find the answers she seeks? Or will the unforgiving world, harsh trials, and the burden of carrying a horrific power corrupt her innocent spirit?
Brian Rouleau writes books, makes games, and enjoys visiting bakeries. He is the husband of an amazing wife and a father to a daughter who is far more creative than he is.
Another great installment of the series. I love the world building of the story. A mix of hell and heaven, brutal and cruel but not thoroughly corrupt. A lot of mystery and lore that opens up gradually. The System is complex yet easy to understand and developed gradually and it’s not too intrusive. The characters build power but there aren’t just pointless battles that go on and on and are there as just a way to pump up the MC’s stats. Jane’s build comes organically through the story’s plot. Same with Pugg and the other important characters. The characters are definitely the best aspect of this series. The heroes and villains and everyone in between are well build and interesting characters. Finally, I just love her class and her luck power. It makes for great humor and also makes you think how much of life is just chance and random encounters, and if there is so justice to reign in the powers that be, the world is little better than hell.
This 3rd Judicator Jane was absolutely amazing, but after the horrific reveal at the end of book 2, this story takes on a much darker tone. This book has some intense and reflective moments, and thankfully some levity, as the consequences of Jane's actions and system changes, over the course of the series, become apparent. Also, the evils revealed in book 2 were not all that exist in Alur and we see a lot more of that being revealed. In this book Jane heads to the Dark Forest to meet the Elves. My favorites characters stay my favorites, while Pogg continues his adventures in the South and grows up fast. Mint goes to Battle School and so much more, and that's just the beginning... I feel that this series is a bit similar to DCC, in that it's getting a bit darker as the series progresses. I hope the author keeps the humor as the series progresses, because I need the light to be able to endure the dark. So far, he's balancing it well and I'm now waiting for book 4.
These books often follow this pattern where you start with one POV that you really like and the few outside POVs are all there to highlight something fun or interesting about the protagonist. Then the side characters start to gain interiority and they get their own chapters to demonstrate it. Then the world expands to the point that we start getting outside POVs to establish events. Then the tertiary characters start getting POVs to set up the payoffs we will get when our protagonist interacts with them and before you know it half the damn book is about people I don't care about. Still a good series but this one is getting to that point faster than average.
I discovered the series a couple months ago and finished the first two books almost immediately. I waited for book 3 to come out today, and finished that immediately as well...only to discover this was not a trilogy as I originally thought. It was the most devastating feeling at around 80-85% as I realized that not enough threads were coming together to finish the story.
5 stars for the book, I love the characters, the world, the adrenaline rush I get, and everything else about the series. Now I just have to cope with an unknown wait for an unknown number of books.
Still getting a lot of novel content and story reveals. ? how can the MC go through what amounts to a 3 week session of extreme torture (though not intended as such) w/o needing extensive therapy to remain functional? Its horrific and either unrealistic or a WoW moment that is unexplained. Shouldn't the 630 luck score have found a better way around the problem?
Once again Brian Rouleau has written a nice tight story as he brings Judicator Jane 3 to an awesome conclusion! And Pogg well that's a whole 'nother story. Just get the book and you'll see what I mean. So yeah do as I say and you too will be enthralled... guaranteed!
Loved the book. We are slowly getting answers to the history of the world, though it opens up new questions. There's never a clearly right decision, and all actions have real consequences that both make sense, and drive character growth.
So much fun .. haven't had this much fun and good cheer reading in awhile.. a real story not just action scene to action scene. Well thought out realities of decisions one makes in life's journey all these things in fast-paced laugh out load adventure
This series has been quite the surprise and a fun read. The Mc learning about the world they fall into has been quite enjoyable and I hope others enjoy following her path through these series of books.
As an avid reader, I try to look for completed series. Now sadly, I need to wait for book 4. But with such glowing characters and a fun, moral storyline, I look forward, please don't make me wait too long...
This was a well done continuation of Jane's adventure, and I thought it was a fun read as well. The pace was great, and the characters were a lot of fun.
Just as with the previous books, the story stays engaging and entertaining, and I devourer it in record time. Highly recommend this entire series so far as one of the best in the Genre.
I haven’t read a series that draws me into the story in consecutive books since Lord of the Rings, Chronicles of Narnia, or Harry Potter. The thing is I never know what will happen next, but I do know there’s nothing offensive, just fun.
Another rattling good read, but when will I get to find out about the system? And why do I have this nagging feeling that something bad, or worse, is just around the corner.
Book 3 of Judicator Jane sees our protagonist going through trials both physical and emotional in nature as she navigates the new world she finds herself in - not Alur itself, but the choices she made in the previous two books and the new decisions she will be responsible for.
It's hard to believe this is the same happy-go-lucky Jane we saw stumble luck-first into situations at the beginning of the series, yet she does her best to maintain herself in the face of true challenge.
There is a scene in this book that is written so, so well and one I keep coming back to in my head - it was powerful, sad, cathartic, and tense.
I am on board with this series so much and cannot wait to see where it all goes.
