Fun and danger go hand-in-hand as Meela and Feral's adventures continue. A new mission from an unusual client turns the duo into a trio and they end up crashing a fancy ball at a luxurious mansion. But the job isn't as easy as expected, and a formidable adversary leaves one member of the team fighting for their life.
With the realization that the lifestyle of a mercenary isn't exactly pup friendly, it's up to Feral to teach Meela the basics of survival and how to defend herself. Meela is an eager student, but is often preoccupied by some foreboding event that is drawing ever closer. What exactly is she so afraid of? And why doesn't she just ask for help?
This volume contains chapters 5 - 10 of the story plus bonus content.
Similarly with the previous book, the artwork is fantastic. Again, great attention to detail, vibrant colors, very beautiful. (Plus that magic of drawing the characters so accurately and amazingly at different ages, witchcraft!) Sadly, again, like the previous books, the fight scenes just aren't clicking for me. Poses and movements feel really stiff and forced, it's rather uncomfortable to go through them. I think it really downplays the action, which is a shame since the rest of the artwork is so well done.
The writing, on the other hand, is actually picking up. There seems to be more of an actual plot and direction now which is a nice sigh of relief. The first book was just too random and awkward, but this second one helps start to tie things all together and bring purpose to the story. It's also nice to get more back-story and universe explanation, even if it was just a little.
The characters are still as wonderful and colorful as before, with a new addition to the team who is equally adorable. The three do really make a great trio and it is quite enjoyable seeing them interact together. (I still have to say, really enjoy Meela and Feral's relationship still. It's done very well! [Them FEELZ!!])
Looking forward to the completion of the third book and seeing where that takes us :)
Part of the 2015 Reading Challenge: A graphic novel (as with the first book, this one technically doesn't count because I've read it before, but I'm counting it anyways.)
Meela and Feral have got to be one of my favorite character pairings ever. They're just so much fun together, and I love every second of their interactions with one another.
The plot/mystery thickens quite a bit in this book, leaving you with more questions than answers and making you just want to read more and more. Each element of tension seems mostly unrelated, but there's just enough to get a sense they might all be connected in some way, rather than just random plot points (I could be wrong about this, but we'll see).
The art is just as great as the first book, as is the humor. I love the new characters that are introduced/expanded on, and I really love watching Meela grow.
There was one typo I noticed in the bonus content of the book, but it didn't detract too much.
Overall, a fun and exciting read, and I'll have to go finish the comic on their website!
Just like the first volume, this volume is an awesome blend of story, characters, and artwork.
This time there were some very intense character stories and revelations. At the same time the artwork remains top notch and a real pleasure to view.
As the lives of Meela, Feral, and Prince Holland get ever more entwined trouble is tracking them down. Meela runs into someone from her past and the secret she has been hiding is revealed in quite a dramatic fashion.
The quirky, fun loving characters and playful artwork continue to make me smile!
Quick thoughts: Things are picking up nicely and little by little pieces of backstory are becoming clearer. The story is unfolding carefully and subtly, to great effect. We seem to be getting close to learning something important about Meela...
