Sometimes the wounds you can’t see leave the deepest scars… In the throes of World War II, Mary McGinn finds herself at the heart of a global conflict, not on the front lines, but in the quiet battlefields of her own home. Widowed and left to raise twelve children on her own, Mary's life becomes a tapestry woven with threads of love, sacrifice, and unwavering determination. As the McGinn men scatter across the globe to serve in various branches of the military, Mary and the other McGinn women grapple with the fear of the unknown, the anguish of separation, and the constant specter of loss. From the battlefields of Europe to the Pacific islands, her sons face the brutal realities of war, each carrying with them a piece of home that makes them a family. Yet, amidst the chaos, Mary's spirit remains unbroken. She is the rock. With resilience forged in the fires of adversity, she navigates the challenges of rationing, the torment of not knowing and the ever-present dread of a telegram bearing tragic news. Through letters exchanged across continents and the silent prayers whispered in the darkness, The McGinn women hold on to hope with a tenacity that defies the chaos of war. The Warrior’s Wounds is a poignant tale of a family’s love transcending borders and boundaries, weaving a narrative that celebrates the strength of the human spirit in the face of adversity. It is a testament to the courage, resilience, and enduring bonds that unite families, even in the darkest of times.
Wow...what a wonderful saga. A truly, feel good read! History, drama and family all wrapped up into a well written story. Really looking forward to further developments with the characters.
I was sorry to come to the end of this series. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading the ongoing story of the McGinn family. The reader becomes quickly engaged in the day to day lives of the family as they struggle to stick together during difficult times, and rejoice and celebrate the weddings, babies and homecomings from the war. The lives of each of the children, their spouses and children, are all under the watchful eye of Mary, the family matriarch, a strong woman, commanding respect in a quiet and gentle way, often with just a look or a simple couple of words. I was grateful that the author gave a wrap up at the end, tying it all up nicely. I look forward to reading more from J E McCarthy.
I read the entire series, starting with “The Red Road.” It is a good family saga, with well-imagined characters and good storylines. However, it could greatly benefit from an editor. The entire series is rife with spelling, usage, and grammatical errors that distracted from the beauty of the story. If you’re not bothered by this, you will most likely enjoy the series.
As much as enjoyed this series it took all my patience not to stop reading. The proofreading and editing was AWFUL....it got worse with each book but the 4th was the absolute worse of all. All, in all, it was an enjoyable story.
I really enjoyed these books. Realistic characters and stories. What I didn't like was the wrong words and skipped words. Was this book checked and edited? It was a shame to have to try to interpret the meaning.
While I loved the Red Road, The Warrior's Wounds brought the story to the story to a close In the only way it could end. I love the McGinn family and all that they stood for. Maybe one day there will be more to the story.
This series could have been reduced to one book. Proofreading/editing does not exist in 4th book which makes reading it frustrating. If I had purchased the hardback version, I would be returning it.
This book is like the rest of this series of books. The storyline is good but the language is more 2024 than the 1930 and 1940s. This author needs to do more research on the timeline he is writing about. the
I found this book overly long. The story was predictable and the characters were flat. Also, the editing could have been better, there were multiple mistakes in the editing making the book annoying to read.
When I began reading this series, it was my first time reading a book by J.E.MçCarthy. The books are amazing. When you are reading them, you become the people you are reading about. I will continue to read more books by the author. Read these books, you will enjoy them.
I have enjoyed the whole McGinn Family Saga . My only issue with these books is the whoever did the editing for spelling missed quite a few. Please have them re-edited.
