Rate this book
Amphibia chronicles the adventures of three best friends who find themselves magically transported to the world of Amphibia, a wild marshland tropical island full of anthropomorphic amphibians and dangerous beasts. The three girls are separated when they arrive in Amphibia, and must go on their own fantastical journeys to reunite and save their new friends.

Following the success of Marcy's Journal, TOKYOPOP presents The Art of Amphibia. Lovingly crafted by Matt Braly, the creator and showrunner of the Disney animated series, this hardcover book features behind-the-scenes artwork from the television series and written insights and testimonials from the crew.

Featuring a foreword by Anne Boonchuy voice actor Brenda Song, packed to the brim with never-before-seen character designs, location designs, and development art, this book is a must-own for any Amphibia fan!

"Change can be difficult, but it's how we grow. It can be the hardest thing to realize you can't hold onto something forever. Sometimes, you have to let it go. But of the things you let go, you'd be surprised what makes its way back to you." -Anne Boonchuy, Amphibia

An incredible artbook for an amazing, life-changing show!! It was super cool to see the crew's artwork and thoughts about certain episodes/moments.
Time for a rewatch to see if I can actually get through the series without bawling my eyes out. I fucking love this silly little frog show :')

Truly the most wonderful read for an Amphibia fan. Cried about 3 times while going through it. It’s also by far the most gorgeous book on my shelf

I guess I brought my disappointment upon myself looking for lore, a satisfying epilogue, behind-the-scenes stories, or shipping bait in a book titled "The Art of Amphibia". I never thought Amphibia's art was it's strongest suit either. These are too personal of opinions to fairly judge the quality of the book itself, this is more of a warning to anyone who wants to buy the book.

However, a complaint I have about the book's quality is the lack of information about designs. Almost every page is dedicated to an episode and the most info you get is a single quote from someone saying "This was a fun episode to work on". Characters especially get the short end of the stick. Where did the idea of the underground library come from? Is Newtopia looking like a cross between the Emerald City, Shiganshina, and a terrarium a coincidence? What is Valeriana's whole deal? These are the types of questions I wanted answers for. There were more lines dedicated to Kermit the Frog's cameo than the entirety of Lady Olivia's design, that's how unperceptive this book is.

The only artwork information that I found interesting were the rejected Darcy designs, and the only art in general I liked having access to anytime I want were the backgrounds that you would only see on the show for a second.

There's a bunch of crew thoughts and opinions about the characters and the episodes that add to the show's complexity and the concept art for what could have been is just crazy to look at if you're a longtime fan. I loved getting the backgrounds and the thought processes for the show. I just wish that there was more text or behind-the-scenes on some of the bigger episodes like True Colors or All In. It was very good though, so glad I read it as it adds a lot to the show. I especially loved the full storyboard for Reunion. Now all we need is a TOH art book :)

A solid 4/5 art book for what is one of Disney Channel’s unique sequence show of the decade (for the love of god, can someone at Disney please ensure that we get an Owl House art book next)! The art work featured is beautiful and you can almost envision how different the show and characters would have been had they gone with a different design choice. Although I appreciated hearing the different perspectives of the crew members for each episode, I would have loved to hear more about the process of choosing the designs as well as the story development, etc.

Loved it it was really fun going through and seeing all the parts and learning about things and seeing the drawings. Just wish I got to know more about how the show was made

I absorbed all the art and details in each page. It's incredible the work that goes into an animated show. Amphibia will always be in my top ten of favorite shows:) 😻
