Title: Never Far Away Author: Anie Michaels Series: Yes Cliffhanger: No Release Date: March 14, 2014 Rating: 3 HEA:
Never Far Away is the second book in the Never series following Ella and Porter. I got the series box set free on my kindle and I liked the first book. Ella and Porter’s relationship, although way to quick, was fun to read. This book continues about two months from the end of the first book. Ella still has no memory and Porter is kept away by Ella’s family unless she can remember on her own. Luckily Porter decides that he has stayed away long enough. Soon enough Ella and Porter are getting to know each other again and then officially back together. The problem is that Kyle is still out there and he is still harassing Ella.
There was the great opportunity at the beginning of this book to essentially have the characters meet and fall in love again. Porter continues to be a great guy that will do whatever it takes to be with Ella. When she gets her memory back they think everything will be great. But Ella doesn’t just remember Porter but getting shot and attacked by her ex Kyle.
The farther I got into the book the more tired I got of Porter and Ella’s relationship. I liked them but it started to be repetitive. And I would rather them show their love more than telling each other they love each other so much. It also got repetitive with how Kyle would do something Ella would freak out and Porter would get extra protective. I was so glad when Ella finally decided to do something. Even if what she did was stupid and made me loose respect for her.
Ella’s plan was idiotic and if anyone is in this situation do not do what she did. She is lucky that this is a book since that is the only reason it worked out. MAJOR ENDING SPOILER!
The ending kind of ruined it for me. I would have gotten past the repetitiveness that was happening. It’s just hard to get past that stupid of a situation. And with one more book I’m not sure what can happen now. I hope it is better than this second one.
Well, so, the best thing about this 2-book series was the relationship between Ella and Porter. It was sweet, passionate and seemed real to me. I absolutely loved Porter, he was absolutely amazing and almost too perfect to be true. I thought Ella still seemed a bit immature, but she was certainly not the main attraction to this story for me.
Now, this installment starts off about 8-weeks after the end of book one, and our H/h are still not together because of what happened with the burglary. I don't want to spill any beans, but readers must read these books in order. I really enjoyed 85% of the book, and I still was swooning at all things Porter, but the end really didn't work for me. I think what really and ultimately bothered me with this series is that, in both books, there was mostly a love story to have the endings of each attempt to be suspenseful. Not a whole lot of creepiness or strange happenings happened in either book to build up to the level of suspense I think may have been the ultimate goal. It was almost as if the author couldn't quite mix the love story with the suspense. There was a bit more of an attempt in the second book, but when we hear our villain reveal what his motivations were, I was like...what?! Really?! And not one police personnel found this information and figured out the motivation? It just was not woven into the story well enough to make this a true romantic suspense. And I am used to reading suspense books, that is what I mainly read before discovering these indie/contemporary/new adult genre of books.
With that being said, I loved Porter and Ella's story so much. I think this story ultimately would have worked better had the burglary been random and all of the happenings within the story were simply set in motion by a cheating boyfriend who just disappeared.
Bottom line...this is a really well written love story and the suspenseful stuff actually detracted from my enjoyment rather than added to it. This truly could have been an excellent story without the added suspense. Maybe extend the timeframe of the amnesia and see these two fall in love all over again? Just this reader's opinion. It's worth reading these books to read about Porter, so yeah, pretty good stuff. I would say 3 to 3.5-stars for both books.
I must say that the author struggles with homophones; she used shutter rather than shudder, there was also a misuse of chorded rather than corded when mentioning Porter's muscles and a few others I highlighted. Also, the term is 'used to' not 'use to' which was used incorrectly often in this book; it is 'I used to work at a bookstore' rather than 'I use to work at a bookstore.' There were other issues here and there I highlighted, but I still enjoyed the story very much.
"When her eyes met his, he left as if a piece of his soul fell back into place."
After the huge cliffhanger in the last book, I was both relieved and disappointed that she got her memory back so quick. I enjoyed it nonetheless.
Blurb The Never Series continues with this steamy, emotional thriller.
Ella wakes up to a world turned upside down, recovering both physically and emotionally from attacks she can't remember. Her only memory from the past weeks is a nameless voice that echoes in her mind, causing her heart to ache and her soul to seek "Him".
Living a life without Ella is no life at all and Porter decides to do whatever it takes to remind her of their love. Recognizing Porter without remembering him, Ella reacquaints herself with this gorgeous man, their explosive chemistry, and the possibilities that lie ahead.

As everything and everyone that Ella loves gets threatened, she must find a way to fight the darkness of yesterday so that she can live in the light of tomorrow.
I loved Never Far Away just as much as the first one. While the first one seemed to be more intense, this one seemed to focus on the reunion of Ella & Porter.
I love their relationship. I love that Porter never gives up. It totally makes him book boyfriend material.
"He was the kind of handsome that made women weak-kneed and swoon."
When Ella was coming to, she had no memory of Porter. She only remembered his voice and him talking to her but after asking her parents and sister if there was anyone else at the hospital they said no. So she spent a while trying to listen to different voices as they came in the store. Then she heard his.
The book is mostly them reconnecting and I loved every minute of it. Along with the romance there's suspense that kept me on the edge of my seat.
Wonderful book! Currently reading the 3rd book in the series :)
Even though I enjoyed the first book, this second one was slow for me. With the aftermath of book 1, you have Porter and Ella reaching toward one another to try and figure out a way to make their romance work. I don't want to give anything away, but because of the condition of the heroine, the reader revisits Porter and Ella's relationship anew. That weighed down the romance for me, because stages they had already experienced had to be forged through again. Also, there was a lot of forging through when it came to the mundane daily tasks that got boring for me. Ella working in her store, Porter driving 2 hours to visit her, Ella finding a new apartment, Porter traveling 2 hours to visit her, Ella having lunch with her sister, Porter traveling 2 hours to visit her…(oh then Ella travels 2 hours to visit Porter) LOL----That's how the setting felt to me--back and forth.
The danger and mystery brought about from Kyle, the ex-boyfriend, was completely frightening. How scary it must have felt to find out that the man you lived with for 4 years presented a complete farce in the way he felt for you. Even though Porter and Ella still have to figure out their living situation, and figure out a life together, they shared a sweet kind of love.
This was a good book for people with a lot of patience…..
Ella and portors story was quite a journey! Anie Michaels left us on the edge of our seats after Never Close Enough wondering what was going to happen to these two. NFA picks up where we left off rooting for Ella and portor to find their way back to one another. Portor is still the amazing, sexy, romantic, powerful man and you can only help but to wish he was real☺️. Kyle is back with a vengeance in this story and Anie definitely blindsided me with his reasons for hurting Ella but I must say his outcome was celebrated. These characters have to go through many hurdles and overcome many obstacles to come out on the other side. But as Anie promised all the leaps and bounds Ella and portor had to face they we able to come back stronger! I loved these stories and am sad to see them come to an end.
I really enojoyed the ending to this two part series. I felt like banging Ella's head against the wall the amount of time hse kept pushing Porter away to try and save him. I really like how she described the particular scene when she was holding the baby, that's exactly how I feel about kids and it was nice to see it written out in words that I can never find. All in all I thought this was a very sweet series.
Nice and solid read ... nothing really happens till 85% of the book ... Porter was so sweet and sexy, same as he was in the first book ... perfect guy ... swoon :) Overall 3 solid stars for this one ...
I received a gift copy of this book for an honest review; no other compensation was received by me.
Tragedy has struck Ella Sinclair in more ways than one. Waking up in the hospital with amnesia and knowing she is missing something. She swears she heard the voice of a man…filled with such deep love and longing…but her family insists she is wrong. She knows in her soul she has to find that voice again…she has to find "him"…but how?
Porter has been in agony for weeks trying to convince Ella's family to let him see her convinced he is what she needs but they won't. Feeling like he has lost a part of himself he decides he has to see her face to face…even if she doesn't recognize him he has to see that she is ok and healing. When he walks into her shop and she hears his voice she knows and asks him to meet her for coffee later that night away from the prying ears of her sister, which is the best thing she could have done. Her desire to touch him, be close to him, and to know the truth of what happened is all that matters.
After Ella recovers her memory they are finally totally and completely back together again. Though the sparks have been flying…the intensity of their relationship will knock you on your arse! However, the mystery of Ella's attack is still a black cloud over their lives…it seems nothing but their love for each other is easy. Can they overcome the danger still lurking in the shadows? Why does it seem that though the universe wanted them together something is bound to try and tear them apart?
Anie has done it again with an emotionally charged, intense, and hot as hell story that will have you on the crying, sighing, and on the edge of your seat in suspense. I literally devoured both books in this series in less than 2 days…while not completely neglecting real life I might add…but I just could not put them down! I am happy to say that this one is completely a HEA…personally I was jumping for joy at the end…but I won't give away any spoilers. All I can say is go one-click that baby…you will not regret it!!!
The continuing saga of Ella and Porter love story. It is months later after Ella has recovered from her injuries and they have not seen each other due to her lack of memory and her parents deciding not to let him see her since she does not remember him.
Porter one day finally breaks his promise to her parents and decides to visit her shop. When Ella hears his voice she is drawn to it but not sure as she remembers it from he time when she was slowly waking up from her coma. She approaches him to meet for coffee as he tells her about their history.
They start to date and one day she remembers everything. As they start to get close, Ella’s ex boyfriend returns to the scene leaving threatening messages along the way in person and destructive incidents. He warns her to keep quiet about the burglary and his attack on her. Ella fears for her safety and the people she cares for especially Porter.
She is kidnapped by her ex who reveals his ulterior motive before he attempts to kill. Will she survive this time or will she finally fall victim to her ex boyfriend. Can she finally have true love?
It is a story where we want Ella and Porter to finally have their happy ending.
This second book in The Never series picks up weeks after one of the most heart breaking cliff hangers I've ever read. Porter is trying to find his way back to Ella and Ella somehow knows that he's out there and she's trying to find him with out really knowing it. Porter has woven himself into my heart and is now one of my Top 10 Book Boyfriend's. Ever.
I was laughing and crying and cheering. I got mad. I cursed and then I cried some more. This is a wonderful love story with so many emotions and obstacles. I loved this book! I want more Porter and Ella.
"Luck had nothing to do with it, Ella. Fate pushed us together and then we fought like hell to find each other again. Luck doesn't keep me with you, love goes."
"I wouldn't want any other women to see you without a shirt on. You're lethal shirtless. We can't be responsible for the toll your bare chest and arms would take on the population"
"Who are you?" She asked very seriously. "What made you the way you are? Why are you so kind and sweet? Strong and possessive? I can't even imagine what my life would be like right now if you weren't in it. How did you become so perfect?"
FINAL-FREAKIN'-LY we get a conclusion to Porter and Ella the damn cliffhanger in book practically killed me. Porter I still loved him, I mean what's not to love about that boy? " I never left your side at the hospital. I was there every day," he paused, realizing that all of this information might be overwhelming for her. "I am sorry if this is confusing for you." I mean Ella knows how to tease her man, "sh**, Ella. I'm two hours away and you send me that? That's cruel. And so hot." She's so honest and open with Porter, "I don't want any barrier between us tonight, Porter. I just want you. I'm on the pill and I've always used a condom. Plus, if I had anything would have found out from the hospital. I want to feel all of you inside of me." She looked up at him with pleading eyes. "This is you and me, Porter. I want to be with you this way, only you. Bare and raw," she said as she gently placed a hand on his cheek." And the boy has some animalistic tendencies, "sounds perfect," she said as she crawled up his body to kiss him. He growled in her mouth, kissing her back."
Ok... Right from the start... I was not feeling this book... I found myself really struggling with it!... The book picks up right where it left off in the last book. Ella has amnesia. She can't remember the week she met Porter. Ughhh As I kept reading...
I kept thinking to myself... Really... Why not tell her about Porter??!! Ella's family really got on my nerves!
It's very selfish on the families part! And makes absolutely no sense at all! & this was 3% in! Ughhhh...
Something that stuck out to me & I thought was kind of weird was... She was with Kyle for 4 yrs. she said she had never had sex with out protection. Idk... I found I kind of hard to believe.
When she finally remembers everything... She not once gets upset because her family kept things from her! I mean... Hello! They deleted Porter's number from her phone..pictures... They kept him from her!!! I would be pissed!!! She's a grown adult!!!
I found Ella extremely irritating with wanted to "protect" Porter. The decisions she was making were so stupid.
I couldn't take it anymore...

In the last book Annie left me crying ugly tears, with one of the biggest cliffhangers ever! This book pics up not long after the ending of the first.
Annie pulls out all the stops in Never Far Away. There are some twists and turns that you don’t see coming and it is more exciting than any roller coaster I have ever been on. Kyle makes an appearance and just blows you away with how his mind works. And of course Porter is there throughout the whole book and his love for Ella is amazing. This book really can reawaken your believe in miracles.
This was a truly emotional and touching story that I was honored to read.
I really enjoyed the continuation of this story. The first book left me angrily wanting more, and I was very pleased that I didn't have to endure being strung along in this book, because things were quickly righted as Porter took things in his own hands. The "hotness" of the first book was turned up a couple of notches as Ella and Porter's story continued, and the plot twists kept me fully engaged until the very end. LOVED it.
I gave the first installment 3 stars and this one the same. I still feel both book's could have been better as one. Ella and Porter were meant to be together but the stories dragged on at too many points. But I still plugged on until I completely finished both books so the author completed her goal to get two books out of one story.
I only skimmed this book. There was more of a story in this one which was good, but Ella was so stupid in the end it was hard to read. I guess Ella and Porter have an "epic" romance, but because there wasn't much put into them getting together in the first place it's like they have no substance. Since there is only one book left I might as well check it out.
If you pretend I didn't read this book, then I'll pretend not to have read it and we'll both be happier for it...
I like to complete things, so I bought the 2nd book because I have to finish the series.. But nooo, I'm not doing book 3.. So many times, I looked up and said "people don't speak like this.."
Feeling Porters pain while he and Ella were separated was gut wrenching. And that was probably the best part of the book. This one was very slow and repetitive so I have no desire to move on to the next one. The way Ella handled Kyle was just plain stupid and it pissed me off that she didn't trust Porter to help her through it.
Such a rollercoaster ...couldn't help but look at the reviews because i wanted to know the plot that fast lol...always bad idea...always better to read it and enjoy the journey rather then try skip the discovery process then read it with an idea of what was gonna happen
This was a really good follow up to Book 1 in The Never Series. The cliff hanger at the end of book 1 was brutal and I had to keep reading. Lets just say things get worse for Ella and Porter before they get anywhere close to being good.
I loved the development of both their characters and their relationship as they have to find each other again and learn to trust and rely in the love they have found.
I was happy with the over all ending. It was sweet and God knows they deserve their HEA. Although the series doesn't end with book 2 we do get a happier ending than book 1 and I think I will let the series rest here for a bit and just see if I feel the need to go any further. I already own book 3 so at some point I will probably return and read it but for right now I need to process the drama of book 2.
This was so close to getting a 5 star review. Two things bumped it down to 4 stars. First the editing was terrible, at least in my digital copy grammatical errors and sentences that did not read smoothly. It really needed a good proof read and edit because it was distracting to the story. When I'm reading I don't want to know that I'm reading, the writing should flow effortlessly from the page to my brain and this book did not do that. Second, there were sections in the middle where I found the romance portion of this book repetitive and boring. The romantic scenes just seemed to hit a plateau and nothing was new and exciting so I found myself skipping them to get to new dialogue or story development.
I still really enjoyed the story and love both Ella and Porter but felt a few mechanical issues held this back from a true 5 star book.
I really enjoyed the first book and would recommend it but this book was okay but slow moving and didn't seem very exciting until the end - a filler book in the true sense of a series.
The other issue I had with this book were all of the typos through out the whole book and at one point the author wrote "he slid her hand down the side of her face" - in the situation in the book, I don't believe that is what the author was going for (I am not a writer in any sense but I think it should have been proof read a little more).
If you are reading all three books, you have to read this one but just note that it won't be a fast read like the first one.
I loved where this story picked up. Throughout the entire book the pace was kept up nicely. I never felt like it was slow or boring, there were twists at just the right spot and enough action to keep it interesting. I love Porter even more and can’t wait to see how their story ends.
This is part 2 in the story of Porter and Ella. Again, another very good book. I would give it 5 stars except for the fact that it needs a good editing. There are spelling errors, tense errors, and other grammatical errors that just make the book come across as unprofessional.
This book was just too long and repetitious. I quickly lost interest and basically played the audio book only half listening. In my opinion there was not enough of a story to warrant three books and the same sex scene repeated 20 times is just a way to fill up pages.
