New needles drama ahead

A lot dedicated to the side characters in this volume. Normally it would have bugged me but since we're on #14 I didn't mind. Rather if was a nice pallet cleanser for the upcoming drama.

Based on how the previous volume ended, I didn't think this volume would be really "smooth-sailing," but some of those panels of Hananoi HURT!I felt that was definitely true; the closer it got to the end of the volume, the more I felt crushed for him because he's the only one who really has memories of Hotaru's grandpa.

On a lighter note, when the blurb said there was a new adversary, I was VERY shocked! I mean, they obviously don't stand a chance against Hananoi (LOL), but the fact that there seemed to be some kind of challenger was surprising. Thankfully, it wasn't a love triangle kind of thing, and I think everything with that character sort of points out that Hananoi and Hotaru have grown in their relationship, but they still have more growing to do. I don't mean that in a bad way because I love them both, but I could see things said in this volume really affecting their future.

Hibiki and Keigo's chapter was SO good! I find it hilarious that Hibiki and Hananoi are so similar! LOL!

I hope that we continue to see more of Yao in the series! I know there were moments I wasn't fond of him, but he really is the MVP for this series because the way he has cheered for Hotaru and Hananoi's relationship is amazing!

Another gripping volume!

This volume mainly focused on Hananoi’s internal struggle with realizing that his dear friend is also Hotaru’s grandfather. The poor boy needs a massive hug and a therapist for him to internalize these terrible coincidences and feel like things are a bad reflection of whatever he’s doing or has done…There was also a lovely section involving Hibiki and Keigo navigating their own relationship problem, a new older and punk-looking coworker, and Yao getting a farewell party for his last day at work.
I really like that the new coworker brings a fresh and non-bias look to the story and specifically a certain moment between Hananoi and Hotaru that happened around Yao’s farewell party. I also really enjoyed seeing that moment between Hibiki and Keigo since they’re a side couple I really enjoy, both together and when both parties are interacting with the main couple. Seeing everything surround Yao in this volume was bittersweet since I’m not entirely sure how often he’ll be around in the story now. Although, with the tense cliffhanger involving his younger siblings and Hotaru I’m nervous for everyone with whatever happens in the next volume.

I didn't realize that this was already released, I am SCREAMING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I saw people saying this volume had some tragic themes but I was hoping it wouldn’t be too bad. I was wrong. There was so much tension this whole volume, it felt like I couldn’t get a chance to relax. It felt like a lot of their progress was coming undone and the cliffhanger at the end?!?! Hopefully the next volume has Hotaru and Hananoi finally talking.

Hibiki and Keigo’s side story was cute. I’m not sure how I feel about the new guy though.

Re-Read #2: I wanted to re-read this one before I jump into the next volume. Hananoi is making me nervous, I feel like this is becoming really sad but I have hope that they will get back on track with their communication. I feel like they overcame so many issues and now they're taking two steps back. Hopefully they will sit down and have a conversation about everything in the next volume.

I am sad that this is probably my least favorite volume. It just didn't hold up to the rest of the series for me.

Crap a cliffhanger…. Spoilers below of the entire series plot, so I can hopefully just read this rather than reading the whole series again like I did for this volume.

Girl sees boy get dumped and lends boy an umbrella in the snow which makes boy confess his love for her the next time that he sees her. Girl doesn’t know what love is, so they start dating on a trial basis but she slowly falls for boy who LOVES her (yandere style). He would say yes to anyone that asked him out because he wanted to feel the love unconditionally (his parents suck so trauma). Also, he was alway dumped because his is intense.

Boy knew girl when they were in elementary because he would sit on a bench in the park and “read a book” (watch her) with a kind grandpa that would keep him company. Boys parents are never home because they rather help strangers in other countries so the grandpa became boys safe space. Boy and girl go to different middle schools and junior highs and meet up again at the same high school. Girl doesn’t remember boy due to wrong name said.

Also, girl has trauma because friend cut all her hair off as retaliation for stealing her man when they were graduating elementary, so girl keeps her hair short. Normal high school stuff happens and girl and boy get job a bookstore. New employee comes to the stage and it’s the boy (2) that the one friend had a crush on, so trauma is rehashed. More stuff happens and the friend that cut girls hair off moves back and the boyfriend wants to scare her yandere style. Boy confesses to girl that he knew her when they were younger and the two heal from the trauma of the haircut.

For volume 13 and 14, we learn that girls grandpa who passed is the same grandpa that would sit with the boy when he was younger. Boy wants to reveal to the girl that he knew her grandpa, so vol 14 ends with them about to meet up. However, girl runs into the siblings of the boy (2) and the two siblings are trying to get on a train otherwise their mom will die…. Meanwhile, the boyfriend is waiting at a gate with no knowledge that the girl is probably gonna be late.

It seems like there has been a major resurgence of Saki’s possessiveness. I’m not quite sure why, but maybe it’s been too long since I read the first volume. I was a little confused by Yao-kun quitting, and the implication that it had anything to do with Saki. I was also baffled that Hotaru wanted to get his phone number but then decided that would bother Saki too much. Wasn’t she already sending him messages when they went to his house to see his dog?

I did go back and read volume 13, and it feels like there needed to be better pacing or transition between the volumes. I didn’t expect Kou to be fighting with her bf over “rejecting” her…that had been several chapters ago.

It’s too bad that Saki had to find out his friend died, and that it was on his birthday. As if he didn’t already overthink things, now he’s blaming himself for not being there. Hopefully Hotaru reminds him her grandfather already had a terminal illness and that he’d lived past the projected time. It’s also a little sad to think of him going to the park to see his grandchildren from afar - it’s also interesting that he knew they were there. If contact broke off before Hotaru can remember, it doesn’t seem like her mom would talk to him.

The new guy at work is interesting…I’m glad he has very distinctive hair, because otherwise I find his face to be too similar to Saki. He seems semi-observant, or at least able to read the people around him even though he’s not too sociable. It will be interesting to see what role he will play for our couple.

This volume was sooo so good! Hananoi was really struggling with knowing that Hotaru’s grandfather was his friend from when he was little. I enjoyed Hibiki and Keigo’s scenes, their struggles during the relationship and having to discuss an important topic, it was awesome! I want to continue seeing more of Hananoi’s relationship with Hotaru!

This volume went by way too quickly and I’m just feeling like this is heading down a sad path??? Like Hananoi is going to feel like he’s a burden on Hotaru?? I really wonder how this series will end…

Cap 54 - 57.

The new guy at the bookstore is hard to get a read on, but seems to just be into his music and otherwise not have much of an interest in people. He can be social, but just chooses not to be it seems. Meanwhile Hanananoi seems to be having a breakdown of his own between learning Hotaru didn't ask for Yao's number most likely out of consideration for his feelings even though she wanted to keep in touch with her friend and worrying over if his old friend was Hotaru's grandfather and how she would react to it. She still doesn't know, but now we've got Yao's younger siblings in a panic at the train station. Hopefully Hanananoi won't be waiting for too long.
