They promised me everything. But when the tides turned and my true self surfaced, their promises washed away with the receding waves.

I forced them to realize their mistake, made them see the truth, even if it meant drowning in my own heartache. Now, they’re sorry, begging for forgiveness. But I’m done with empty words and broken promises.

I would have been happy to leave and never look back, but a rip current keeps pulling me toward them, to face the hurt.
How can I trust them again after they rejected me so fiercely?

I was so invested in these characters in the first book, but I do feel like two books might’ve been a bit of a reach.

Deeply emotional and much more intimately graphic then book one, but I lost interest after so many pages. Book one is around 450 pgs and this book, close to 500 pgs.

Contemporary paranormal
Ghosts
Duet, must read in order
Set in Maine, USA
Atlantic, fishing boats
RH (no sword crossing)
Hurt/comfort
Grovel
Found family
HEA

A surprising twist at the end, was lovely.

downhill

Slowly but surely each series Blake Black comes out with makes the FMC looks weaker and weaker. It’s sad to read. I’ve absolutely hated the character Tally just because she keeps flip flopping which side she’s on. Wants to protect Sloan but has to problem screwing her over (in a sense) when it benefits her. I get she’s there for Sloan but you think a normal human being would back off once you hear the story of her nightmare but no she wants to profit off her “best friends then goes back and forth liking and hating the guys. So damn confusing. Slogans not any better when she acts tough but goes weak and putty every chance

Boo…. who knew a three letter word would break me finally. I BAWLED! Fine my dear friend, you WIN! Let’s just say what I was hoping for within the pages of Ocean Echoes to happen, did and my heart… it shattered and I am just honestly broken yet so content right now. This whole story is a fiery ball of emotions that will take you on a roller coaster of wanting to scold not just the Jones brothers but also Sloan at times. It is intense and that is just putting it lightly. Seeing those men grovel and doing everything in their power to make it up to Sloan was chef’s kiss. Then we have poor Sloan. She has been through SO freaking much. With the way that Whisper Waves concluded and melded into the start of Ocean Echoes had my breath caught in my lungs. All her emotions and trauma are beyond intensified within this second half of the Soulful Seas duet. Sometimes you want to get mad at her for her back and forth but honestly, having to see it from her perspective, she has a LOT to get through.
The build of this group and seeing it all play out and how their relationships progress and I am talking EACH one of those Jones boys are put to the task to make things up to our poor Sloan. But each in their own way, to build back that trust and mend that relationship with her. This one is spicy on every level. Cue the fanning! The emotions beyond comprehension. Black has delivered something unique and special. Something that will stick to your soul and never leave you. Her writing is absolutely breathtaking and she has only been publishing for less than a year. I am so looking forward to what is to come from this author. If you haven’t already, DEVOUR this duet. It is just an unexpected tale of finding love with the most unexpected, past trauma and trust. If I could give this book more than five stars, I would. Hands down will be my top duet of the year!

There was something so captivating about the first book, and then this one I was skimming. Maybe because the sex scenes got repetitive and the declarations of love and want and need became cheesy and dramatic and overdone.

I love Reverse Harem. I love the Why Choose moment. So why was I cringing at the group sex in the epilogue?! Idk what it was. Maybe bc theyre all brothers, but I've read RHs with family members being in the group before. Something about this one made me uncomfortable.

I also feel like this duet could've easily ended in a relationship with just Sloan and Saylor. I felt their connection more than I felt the connection with the other brothers. They all just fell in love with her too quickly and easily. Like Sloan has "saved their lives" and she's the "reason to live" and I hate that. These guys have a lot of trauma and they needed to work through it and live for themselves, not put everything on Sloan and only live for her. Love doesn't always fix things so easily.

The climax of this wasn't necessary. I was like, "noooo, the author isn't gonna do what I think she's gonna do, right? That's too obvious." And she did.

Overall, I really loved Saylor. We could've ended with only him. Alas, it's an RH and I should know what that indicates.

Happy reading, Goodreads fiends.

“Given the choice between Heaven and an eternity like this, with you by my side, I’d choose you every time. You are my heaven.”

Oh, my heart! Blake delivered a highly emotional conclusion to Sloan’s story. I cannot even count the number of times I was brought to tears—tears of sorrow and tears of joy. It was cathartic.

Saylor continued to be my favorite of the Jones brothers. I didn’t care that he was a ghost; he was endgame. He owned my heart from the beginning to the end.

After how book one ended, I needed an epic grovel. Thank you, Blake. The redemptions were perfect. The Jones brothers learned that words were not enough. They needed to show Sloan they were worthy through actions—and what actions! Excellent character growth all around.

Book two is medium-burn and moderately spicy. It ends in a HEA.

I highly recommend this duet!

I loved the first book but this one felt super tedious for a majority of the time.

Sloan needed to pull her big girl panties up and I’m glad Saylor called her out. He was so funny and my favorite character.

This read more like a Saylor & Sloan kinda relationship rather than an actual RH. I almost hoped she would’ve just ended up with him tbh. She just didn’t have the same level of love and moments with the other guys, so their groveling and declarations of love were kind of awkward in my eyes.

I really didn't enjoy this. The fmc never stops crying. Her BFF is too pushy, and the main couples know nothing about each other, but love unconditionaly and can't live without each other. Just not for me.

Some good groveling here and I love how Sloan didn't accept shitty apologies that led to the love interests actually learning how to apologize sincerely not only to her, but to each other. There is definite growth here. I never thought I'd like North, but he put in the work to be better not only for her, but for his son as well.
Saylor is still 100% the best though and I do wish Hunter received more page time where we could see them just chill together or even cook with Lio.

*sigh* Thank fuck. I was really fucking worried there for a second.
This was such a beautiful mess of emotions and groveling and growth and healing. It was so good.
And the smut was also pretty fantastic.

I said it with book 1 and I’ll say it again. This is my favorite duet of all time. This story is beautiful, haunting, heart breaking but also healing and just absolutely incredible.

Book 2 picks up where book 1 left off. This book absolutely destroyed my heart and soul but by the end put it back together beautifully. I have a tattoo that says beautifully broken and it’s never felt more true. These boys have to grovel and grovel they do. After hurting Sloan’s feelings at the end of book 1, Sloan swears she’s done but the Jones men realize they messed up, made mistakes and lost someone so important to them. They must grovel to get back in Sloan’s good graces. So much happens that I don’t want to give away but know that the continuation of this story literally broke my heart and soul like I was screaming at my kindle and absolutely tears were shed both in heart break and sadness but also in joy and happiness. The is story is absolutely beautiful I know I’ve said it a lot it is. Found family is one of my favorite tropes and this book is the definition of found family.

Blake you weave and tell the most incredible stories that just make me want to be in that world and never leave. I didn’t want this book to end I still don’t. I truly don’t have words to express my love for this book and this duet. It has my whole heart and soul.

This was an absolutely perfect ending for this duet. I stayed up all night because I was on the edge of my seat with every page. I did not see the plot twist coming at all! I love why choose romances and normally I don’t pick a favorite but… Saylor wins best book boyfriend of all time. I can’t wait to see what comes next from Blake!

I had to take a day to collect myself because HOT DAM this book delivered.

I love these men, this girl, and all the people in their lives. Soulful Seas duet is one of my favourite kinds of books, a window into the lives of people. It has no true beginning and no end, but a moment in time. The twist was excellent (I knew it was coming, but I like to be edged so the anticipation of the reveal is my favourite 😉).

This book had me crying, laughing, and questioning my own sanity. Every moment was worth it though and I’m so happy yet so sad that this series is over.

Ps. Nash, you’ve at least redeemed yourself, but my irl Nash is still an asshole.

Friendship

I did not finish this book. I tried to give it the benefit of the doubt after the last one,but it just kept letting me down. I didn’t like the idea that being with a man 5 years younger make the woman a cougar, yet it is ok with guys. Misogyny much?

One, the friendship. Her so called best friend shared the FMC business with others last book. That upset me. This book they continue to disregard the FMC trauma and force her into a reading. Then say hateful things and blame it on being pregnant. This is not a friend. In addition, the restaurant ban on the love interests is not real when you tell them the FMC secrets and wish them luck. With friends like this……

Two, the MMC ignores the FMC wants and does what they want, giving her no space. Then one of the love interests berates her after a traumatic event, like the event itself was her fault. Let’s not go into the manwhore who brags about sleeping with her all the time and ignores the fact that she dislikes the nickname.

All around not a good book.

It's been quite a while since a series effected my emotions so much. This was a roller coaster of hate, mistrust, pain, sorrow and finally a HEA. But damn if it doesn't take a while to get there. I also felt the guys more than atoned and groveled for their behavior in the last book. While I wish Sloan would let her heart and soul lead her rather than her hormones she does occasionally use her brain. When it comes to Saylor, I had no idea how his story would play out along with his brothers. I mean why introduce him only to savagely break our hearts by taking him out and yet I was prepared for everything and still a bawling mess in the end. Really enjoyed this duet and I really liked the small paranormal aspect added into the more contemporary plot.

Dancing through our house. With the ghost of you
🎶

In the wake of their broken promises, Sloan (h) was left to confront her own heartache, determined to make them face the gravity of their actions. She forced them to see the truth, even if it meant she had to endure the pain herself. Their apologies came too late, their regret palpable, but she was done with the empty words and shattered assurances. She was ready to walk away for good, to leave the past behind and never look back. Yet, an irresistible pull—like a relentless rip current—kept drawing her back to them. Now, she must confront the lingering hurt and the people who once promised her the world.

─── ・ 。゚☆: THOUGHTS*.☽ .*:☆゚. ───

Oh man, this book is even better than the first one! In this, the guys are on full-on grovel mode, trying to make up for all the mess they made in the previous book. And Sloan? She’s not making it easy for them at all. She doesn’t just hand out forgiveness like it's candy. Nope, she makes them work for every bit of it. They’re pulling out all the stops, trying everything they can think of to win her back. And Sloan? She’s holding her ground. She’s really putting them through their paces, which honestly, they totally deserve. The way they hurt her? Yeah, that betrayal cut deep, and it’s clear she needs to heal on her own terms. Despite how tough she’s being, it’s clear that all the guys are committed to proving themselves and making things right. They don’t give up, and they really put in the effort to earn her forgiveness. It’s such a powerful redemption arc. Honestly, they’re all my babies, and I just can’t get enough of them.

[Saylor]

“Sloan, for fuck’s sake, stop!” Hunter’s plea is raw. “You know I can’t keep up with this damn leg.” His voice is strained, and he’s panting as he tries to catch up.

“Just walk. You don’t owe him nothing,” Saylor urges, but I pause and turn to face Hunter.

Saylor is still my absolute favorite, hands down 🤭🙁❤️💌. I know we’re not supposed to pick favorites in a why choose romance, but honestly, he’s just on another level for me. The twist that he wasn’t actually dead, just in a coma? That was perfection! I was on the edge of my seat, relieved and terrified all at once, thinking he might actually cross over. But no, his purpose was to be with Sloan, and I’m beyond grateful he’s still around. Saylor is pure gold—such a jokester and totally devoted to Sloan. He’s always been on her side, and throughout the book, he never put a foot wrong. If anything, it’s his frustration at not being able to physically be there for her when she needed him that really hits home. He’s got this incredible, unwavering loyalty that just makes him stand out. Saylor is absolutely my man, and I can’t get enough of him! I would totally reread this book over and over just to experience Saylor’s joy and humor again 😭❤️. He’s such a bundle of sunshine, and his jokes and antics are worth every page. It’s amazing that he got a second chance after being stuck in limbo for so long. His return was such a relief and made everything so much brighter. Saylor really adds that extra spark to the story, and I’m so glad he got his time back.

[Nash]

“I should’ve backed her up, should’ve stood by her side,” he admits, his voice heavy with regret. But when his eyes come up to mine again from the floor, they still spew fire. “I shouldn’t have let you hold me back.”

Nash really came through in this book 😕. Sure, he felt a lot of guilt for not standing up for Sloan when North treated her so badly. He chose to stay loyal to his family, even though it meant standing by while she was hurt. I get why he made that choice, but it definitely left him with a lot of regrets. But Nash didn’t just sit back and let it slide. He really worked hard to make things right. His poetic charm might be a bit cringe-worthy at times, but that’s part of what makes him endearing. He would leave these heartfelt notes for Sloan, and even though they were kind of terrible, they were meant to make her smile. It’s clear he’s genuinely trying to show up for her, even when she’s still upset. What’s really sweet is how he tells her she can be angry with him, but he’s still there for her, holding her close. Nash has definitely earned his place in Sloan’s heart, and despite his past mistakes, his efforts to make amends are truly touching.

[North]

“I know I’m the one to blame for the most part, but don’t act all innocent and shit. We all shoved her to the curb.”

“No, the shoving into the dirt was all you,” he snaps back, his voice laced with bitterness.

North’s character really goes through a transformation in this book📌. It’s clear he’s made a genuine effort to improve himself, stepping up as both a father, partner and a brother. Watching him finally face his past mistakes and work towards healing has been quite a journey. He’s this complex mix of his past and present self, which makes his growth feel all the more real. It’s evident he’s put in the work to become a better man, both for himself and for Sloan. His deep apologies and the realization of his past mistakes show that he’s genuinely remorseful and committed to change. Even though his words and actions in the past were hurtful, it’s hard to ignore the progress he’s made. I can’t just forget the pain he caused, but I do believe he’s earned a second chance. The closure he’s found with his ex-wife and his dedication to healing make him someone worth rooting for.

[Hunter]

“Enough!” Hunter hisses, his voice shaking with pent-up rage. “We’re all to blame here. We pushed her away together, and now she’s gone.”

Hunter’s actions in this book really hit hard. He was initially one of Sloan’s biggest protectors and seemed genuinely invested in her well-being. So, when he shut her out, especially after they had grown close, it was a major blow. It was tough seeing him struggle with believing her, given how much he had previously done to safeguard her. Despite the distance and the pain he caused, Hunter didn’t just disappear. He made sure to show up and take care of Sloan, ensuring she was eating and looked after. His regret was palpable and sincere 🙁❤️‍🩹. He didn’t expect forgiveness right away, and that’s what made his remorse even more impactful. He understood that he didn’t deserve immediate forgiveness and communicated that to Sloan, which was a significant moment. In the end, Sloan’s decision to forgive him was a testament to the depth of their relationship and Hunter’s genuine efforts to make amends. His acknowledgment of his mistakes and his determination to support her, even after he had hurt her, added layers to his character. It’s clear that his journey wasn’t just about making things right with Sloan but also about his own personal growth and redemption.

─── ・ 。゚☆: OVERALL*.☽ .*:☆゚. ───

The groveling in this book was on point, and it was totally worth it! The guys really stepped up and proved their worth, making amends and earning their place in Sloan’s life. Seeing them work so hard to make things right was honestly satisfying. Sloan’s journey to her HEA was so well-deserved. She got to embrace her gift and finally use it in a way that brought her peace and fulfillment. Plus, having the support of the guys made all the difference. Their commitment to her, even through their mistakes, showed how much they valued her. And North? Classic North with those NDAs for ghost readings! It’s such a fitting touch that he’d be that meticulous about handling ghost-related matters. It’s the little details like that which made the story so enjoyable and authentic. This book wrapped up beautifully, giving Sloan the resolution she needed and deserved while letting the guys prove they were truly worthy of her.

I listened to both parts of the Duet last weekend. Both audiobooks are really long, and it took me a day each to finish the Duet, even though I listened in 1.8 x speed.

This duet show so many emotions and makes you want to laugh, cry and shout out to support the heroine Sloane.

It is well written and kept my attention the whole time. But I wished that there was more serious grovelling in the second book.

One of the best book (duets) I've read this year. It has all the emotions, a huge cliffhanger in the first book, but HEA in this book two. One night stand, fmc who can see ghosts and has trauma associated with that, multiple MMCs - all make for an amazing book. I will recommend this duet over and over again.

To be fair, I probably should have stopped at the first one. I wasn't a fan of the lamest and trauma used to motivate the heroine. Wasn't really a fan of Nash, ever, really. Although I loved him as a character, I didn't like the ghost/wandering spirit romance with Saylor.

I loved this duet so much! The author wrote this one so well, and I really appreciate the character growth and the grovelling too. The MMCs messed up previously, and the FMC was hurt and needed to protect herself and didn't settle for a half assed apology and I was so there for that!
The rollercoaster of emotions were perfect for me, I really felt connected to the characters. I would have given 5* but it didn't feel like some of the MMC had as much screen time as I would have wanted.
Argh I rarely cry when reading...I think this is the second time it has happened but the dog scene just had me 😫. It was an unexpected scene, but as a pet mum I really appreciated it being included and I think it is what we all wish for!
I did want the part where
I also REALLY appreciated that there was not a focus on pregnancy/kids and that the FMC didn't want them either. The scene with North discussing this was just PERFECT for me!
