That Awful Cinderella is narrated from one of the stepsister's point of view. This version of Cinderella made the cruel characters, the stepmother and stepsisters, more realistic and relatable because they were explaining their side of the story. However, the story does not match with the title. The stepsister is mad and jealous because Cinderella stole her prince; so she is just calling her awful. I felt the stepsister's narration dragged on a bit.The book also includes the classic tale of Cinderella. I would recommend this book for juvenille readers because they would need to understand the perspective of the story. Recommend for 3rd through 6th grade. Published 1993.
Oh no; I'm so disappointed. Granowsky's other books in this series are wonderful because they show an actual different way of looking at the situation. But this is awful. All we get here is one of the stepsisters saying all the wicked stuff to us that she usually says or implies in the original story anyway. It's the same story on both 'sides' and pretty darn worthless. The pictures are pretty awful on both sides, too.
I liked this book because of its twists and turn on the story every on knows. It is a nice change of pce seeing the story from he side of the step sisters and step mother. I like the other version better but I think this might confuse kids who know the original story.
