Josh Simmons convinced me of his immense talent after I read the French edition of "House," so picking up this book was an easy decision.

This is one of the strangest books I've ever read, but the incredible art and pervasive weirdness make it a refreshing experience, completely unlike anything else out there.

It's not a book that tries to be serious or politically correct in any way. Instead, it showcases Simmons' most gruesome, bizarre, dark, and unfiltered imagination.

Really cool.

What a handsome edition and what beautiful, deranged drawings. You can see Johnny Ryan (heavy influence), Ed Piskor, comix, queer, and camp in Simmons’ and Keck’s Batman deconstruction. this is a silly (and enjoyably pretentious) po-mo joyride driving over the myth of our beloved Batman. Easy read, which I always love.

We all know that Batman is, as most superheroes are, a dedicated fascist. Simmons takes that idea to the extreme in this series of comics collected here; The Bat isn't just a violent, twisted sociopath, but his kink is twisted violence and agony, inflicting on others as well as himself. He a lurid, codependent relationship with The Joker, he is an overgrown child narcissist, he eschews enlightenment after surviving the apocalypse, he craves chaos. Amazing stuff, exactly what you want an explicit Batman bootleg series to achieve and the artwork is all insane.

Jeśli ktoś obawiał się, że będzie rozpierducha dla samej rozpierduchy to muszę rozczarować. Jest nawet ambitnie i cała ta dekonstrukcja superhero, mimo że wcale nie jest czymś nowym, w wydaniu Simmonsa, z racji całkowitego wyzbycia się ograniczeń podczas tworzenia, wypada świeżo. Dwa pierwsze opowiadania znałem z innych zbiorów, gdy właśnie o takim albumie w całości poświęconym Nietoperzowi marzyłem. Dość powiedzieć, że kolejne dwa również trzymają poziom, a ostatni uderza wręcz we wzniosłe tony, dotyczące istoty egzystencji. Choć zniekształcone bluźnierczą satyrą, zawsze coś tam do przemyślenia pozostawią. Nie dla każdego, ale w swej kategorii "4 gackowe kutasy na 5".

Juvenile, psychedelic, morbid. Batman has a breakdown of character and goes on a teenage struggle adventure.

I didn't know at all what to expect when going in, as I've had no experience with the creator. The story is shallow and the punchlines are nudity and sudden ejaculations. The deconstruction of Batman seemed more like a projection from the writer himself. How this has received decent reviews is beyond me. I guess people are starved for something different, no matter what it is.

I thought it was a comic for adults because of dicks, but it turned out that it was because of the weight of the answers that these stories give to unsublied questions
