A scary invitation turns out to be very good news in this playfully illustrated, deeply biblical book for kids ages 5–9. Discover how King David’s grace to Mephibosheth is far surpassed by King Jesus’s gracious invitation for us to feast with him in heaven.
Endorsements“There are never enough ways to convey the grace of God to children, and that’s why I’m so excited about Pictures of Gospel Grace. This marvelous series is a great way to tell the story of God’s favor and mercy over and over again to young readers!”

“Bible story books for children tend to retell only the more familiar, “important” stories. Dinner with the King is a delightful exception. Children may not recognize Mephibosheth’s name, but they will enjoy this rendering of his story. And in it they will see something of who God is and how he shows us grace in our Lord Jesus Christ.”
—Starr Meade, Author, Training Hearts, Teaching Minds
“Everyone likes to be invited to dinner, but an invitation from a king would be truly special. In this engaging retelling of the story of David and Mephibosheth, simple words and bright pictures lead readers to consider what it would be like to be an enemy who becomes a king’s friend. I highly commend this book, which applies the gospel to young hearts and asks readers (and their parents!), “What would you say to dinner with a king?” The answer, for Mephibosheth and for us, is an emphatic yes!”

A solid, gospel-centered treatment of the Mephiboseth story. Engaging for kids and encouraging for adults. Recommended. I'm looking forward to other titles in this P&R series that tells the stories of minor Bible characters.
A book about every child’s favorite Bible character... 👉🏼 Mephibosheth!!
Haha, I kid! But that’s actually what I love about this book (and upcoming series). “Dinner With The King” highlights a character who you don’t typically find in Christian children’s books.
Mephibosheth (the grandson of King Saul) receives an invitation to King David’s table many years after the death of his father and grandfather (David’s enemy). But is it a kind invitation or a threatening one?
This book tells the Old Testament story from 2 Samuel 9 and how it points to the grace we all receive from an even greater King.
I loved this one, my boys loved this one and now I am super excited about this whole upcoming series!
Plus, the illustrations are very lively & engaging.
