Alaana, an inexperienced young shaman of the Anatatook people, must face arctic werewolves, bloodthirsty raiders, soul-stealing demons, and the vengeful ghost of a massive polar bear as she uncovers dark secrets left behind by her teacher Old Manatook.
As she struggles to win the respect of the village headman she journeys among the polar bears of the Ice Mountain, to the terrifying Underworld, the bottom of the sea, and even to the Moon itself. Seeking answers to the riddle of her mysterious power, she must choose between the love of two very different men.

A nice continuation of the series. Occasionally these chapters read like isolated installments instead of one continuously flowing story. K. Altabef always succeeded in tying the events together part way through the subsequent chapter, but it interrupted the flow slightly.

I liked that not every life was happily-ever-after. There were some deaths. That keeps the reader on the edge of his/her seat never knowing for sure how successful Alaana will be in each specific journey.

Engaging tale of a female shaman

Very engaging book series of the young woman Alaana, who is an Inuit Shaman feeling her way through the many losses, challenges and responsibilities she faces. A good read for those interested in Beringia culture and spirit.
