This is absurd and so unrealistic but at the same time somewhat addictive. It really reminds me of the mangas of the 90s.

Dr. Tendo has been offered the chance to study abroad, so much emoting must be done about that and how it will affect his relationship with our main character. And a secret from his past is revealed. The aftermath of all this involves a night of drinking and a love hotel (with some nudity, for anyone who cares one way or the other).

The soap opera elements get clumsier and shoddier every volume. The story at least attempts to address some problems with the boss/employee relationship between the doctor and nurse in the midst of everything else going on. I'm going to read the next one I have on hand from the library before deciding whether to give up on this title, but I'm leaning toward dropping right now.

This series is a bit repetitive but the main characters keep me reading. It doesn't have the charm I wish it did.

This is such a consistent series that it's almost soothing to read, romance tropes and shenanigans notwithstanding.

Advanced reader copy was provided to me by the publisher on NetGalley in exchange for an honest review

I was so happy when I saw this manga on NetGalley as it's one of the numerous mangas that I'm keeping up with as the English editions are being published. I was ecstatic when my request to read this ARC was approved that I ended up downloading it and finish reading it within 50 minutes. It has got to be a record. I was just so excited to read this volume and see what will happen next because of how the last volume ended on a cliffhanger.

In terms of the plot, the first two chapters deal with the cliffhanger which was brought up at the end of Volume 3. I thought that I could predict where the volume was going to go but I ended up being very pleasantly surprised at the twist. I just had read a few Josei/Shojo mangas that had the twist that all went the same way with the plot so I thought this series would do the same but I'm really glad that it didn't because I felt like it increased the intimacy of the relationship between Sakura and Tendo. I am more invested in their relationship now. It was also nice to see that this manga was not problematic like the last volume. I didn't think that the problematic aspect of Sakura and Tendo was too bad though, so it didn't spoil my feelings of that volume too much. I'm more invested in the romantic relationship between Sakura and Tendo because it feels more real. It feels like Tendo genuinely likes/loves Sakura and that he's not pity dating her like the last volume felt like. We also get to see the two be sexually intimate together so this volume is the start of it being more 18+.

Overall, I love this series so much and this volume. I can't wait for this volume to come out and add it to my collection, but also to read the next volume in the series! I would definitely recommend this manga, in fact hopefully in the future you will see me recommend this manga in a manga recommendations video on my YouTube channel.

This was surprisingly hot.

The first three books were quite... PG 13+. The main characters barely flirt, let alone kiss.

And then all of the sudden BAM! They sleep together and it's graphic. Like we are far from graphic such as GoT but it was still surprising.

Fun fact: since I thought it was such a light book I was reading this with my family members all around me. You should've see my face when I flipped the page and got to that moment.

Now that the characters have reached an important phase in their relationship, I can't wait to see where it will go!

I’m really happy I picked up this series and I will definitely continue to do so for as long as the mangaka continues to write it. Just the quality cute, funny romance manga I’ve been wanting to read for a while.

Review for complete series

Nanase is about to start her career as a nurse under Dr Tendo who happens to be the reason she became a nurse in the first place. Five years prior, the two met while trying to save a stranger after which Nanase fell in love with the doctor. Now, not only does Dr Tendo not remember her, but he is also remorselessly demanding and the reason for the nurse shortage in their department. Nanase however refuses to be bullied out and earns the title of The Valliant one for trying to stand up to the grouchy doctor.

While I don't like it quite as much as Happy Marriage?!, this combines all things I like about Enjouji Maki. Nanase and Dr Tendo are a bickering couple that is just super fun to read about. I wouldn't call a particularly deep story but it's just plain and simple fun. While An Incurable Case of Love does try to add a bit of seriousness by going into stories of loved ones lost through illness, I didn't feel like those elements added much to the story.

Although this is largely a RomCom, I actually really enjoyed the hospital setting and how it was handled. It felt like a lively area where we also got to know some of the main characters' colleagues - while they were never fleshed out, it did create a sense of reading about a workplace community. I thought the nickname Valliant One was endearing and it was fun to see how all the staff kept tabs on the developing relationship.

Nanase, or rather the Valliant One, was quite a nice lead character. I liked that she didn't immediately continue liking Dr Tendo just because of his looks but most importantly, I like that she comes to care for her work for her own sake and always strives to better herself. In a way, she did end up choosing her workplace over Dr Tendo. Even though she often doubts herself, I think she makes a strong character in many ways.

Dr Tendo is unapologetically grumpy - he's not a brooding hero with a sad past. He's just the way he is, he knows it and doesn't care what others think of him. Of course, he learns to be more friendly in his own way and Nanase helps him loosen up, but I like that there's no particular reason behind his moods or any story that's supposed to make us feel sorry for him.

I suppose a lack of depth is what keeps me from loving it, but there is otherwise nothing I can fault it with. It's a fun RomCom, an easy read with likeable characters and nice art. I'm definitely hoping this wasn't the last of Enjouji Maki!

Today's post is on An Incurable Case of Love, vol 4 by Maki Enjoji. It is 192 pages long and is published by Shjo Beat. The cover has the two main characters on it whispering together. As it is the fourth in the series, you need to have read the first three volumes to understand the story. The intended reader is someone who likes medical romances. There is no foul language, some sex and sexuality, and no violence in this manga. The story is told from third person close of the two main characters. There Be Spoilers Ahead.
From the back of the book- At long last, the Dark Lord has been defeated! Wait- it can't be that easy!
Nanase became a nurse to chase after Dr. Kairi Tendo. Nanase hears that Kairi has requested to study abroad. She is shocked by the news and tells him she doesn't want to be apart, but Kairi's response makes her uneasy...

Review- This volume is about Kairi being honest with himself and Nanase about his true feelings for her. He wants to study a particular disease that killed his first girlfriend and Nanase doesn't want to hold him back. But she also thinks that he doesn't really like her at all, that he just bad for her one-sided love. They work through it and they have sex. The sex scenes are not too graphic but they are there and there is some adult humor too. I am pleased with how this manga is going, Nanase is learning to be a nurse on without Kairi standing over her and Kairi is learning to express his feelings better. I look forward to seeing what drama comes up next!

I give this volume a Four out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.

It's not going to seem like it, but I do like this story and some parts of this volume made me smile. But, I have some gripes that are particularly prominent in this volume since Sakura's whole life revolves around Dr. Tendo and it's pathetic.

Minor spoilers ahead for Happy Marriage?! as a comparison because (to me) An Incurable Case of Love is subpar to its sister series and I wish more care had been taken to develop the characters to make them more likeable and relatable.

I know I'm nitpicking a romantic comedy built on a ridiculous premise, but Enjoji's Happy Marriage?! shows that Incurable can be better. The problematic elements with Hokuto are absent in Tendo, so that's a bonus. I hope Sakura's character shows growth in the next volume.

Jester's thoughts.
I thought I was reading a cute, fluffy romance manga, then—BAM!—nude scenes. I genuinely thought this was rated for teens, in a way meant to have teen elements, but for a young adult audience. I checked VIZ Media's website, and it's rated Mature. That was on me then.

The Dark Lord gets a chance to study abroad. The whole drama surrounding that was sort of interesting. It also revealed why he had requested that opportunity and gave information about his past.

It's the fourth volume in, and Sakura did seem competent at her job, but sometimes she did not. It was as if she had made no progress from the past volumes.

Now, where would the romance genre be without pushy female friends that move the romance forward? The hotel bits were humorous and cute, especially the part where Sakura thought Tendo had… something dysfunction. But then it was ruined by the nude scenes.

This is my least liked in the series. My rating is down to three stars. Volume 5, don't fail me now.

Note: Using new rating system starting 2025.

First of all...HOT DAMN!

So, we find ourselves in volume 4. The heat is intense. Dr. Tendo goes to leave and study abroad in America and Sakura let's him.

WRONG!!!!!!

She tells him to go and ends up learning why he wants to do research. His ex resembles Sakura so much and she passed away from a disease that Dr. Tendo wants to find a cure for.

Then Sakura ends up crying and saying the two words that have Dr. Tendo and Sakura end up in bed!

Things get hot and heavy! I'm surprised the author showed the nudity in the few pages she did. Definitely shocked me.

Then they return to work and end up doing it again.

Safe to say, I'm glad they finally are a couple, although I feel like it could've waited another volume or two before having sex. But that could just be me.

Still a great read!

Mon avis :

Review: About the drawings, we clearly notice at first sight the style of Maki Enjōji, which I really love. One of the biggest flaws of the plot is that we don’t really understand the timeline. I feel like the story happens in a two-year span. On a good side: as we go along, the readers witness a relationship between adults who experience joy, doubts, etc. But I still feel disappointed: the last 2 volumes are full of fillers. And it’s too bad, because I really loved the first 5 volumes. In other words, it’s like the last couple volumes were kind of a bonus story but we were still “forced” to read them to know the ending. Otherwise I have nothing bad to say about the plot.

I know I'll be a forever Maki Enjoji fan, there is not one volume she doesn't make enjoyable. Once again it was. Some heavy considerations Sakura and Kairi faced in this volume and Sakura gets clarity on how Kairi feels about her. I only want the best for this awkward pair and the smut was a nice addition, I was beginning to wonder when that would come. Maki keeps her smut factor tame but we saw some breasts parts I wasn't expecting. Just keen to for Maki's idea for where she wants this medical couple to end up. !!!
