When duty and desire clash, fated mates are caught in the middle.
Cash’s loyalty to his pack is unwavering. He’d sacrifice anything to protect his packmates. Do anything to keep them safe. Put their needs above his own—always.
It is the life he was born for, and the one he’s worked years to achieve. As an Enforcer, he swore an oath to his pack before self. Not once has he regretted his choices. Until an injured eagle shifter lands in his lap, and his protective instincts get torn in two. He knows he can’t risk the safety of his pack—no matter what his panther demands. Once the little bird is all healed up, Cash will have to send him on his way. For the good of his pack. But dark, frightened eyes and a sweet smile call to his cat in a hungry, possessive way and challenge everything he’s ever thought he knew. For the first time in his life, he might just have to put himself first.
Tempest is the first book in the Silver Oak Pack series, set within the Kincaid Pack Universe but able to be read and enjoyed completely on its own. It features an overly protective panther trapped by his own responsibility-driven morals, an eagle who can’t remember much but knows the surly cat makes him feel spine-tingling safe, magical tattoos, skinny dipping, a delicious age-gap, gobs of scenting, and a swoon-worthy happily ever after.
I liked the pairing of black panther and golden eagle shifter.
Cash, the panther, is a huge, stoic dude who likes routine and order. Ore, the eagle, is tiny and upbeat, even though he can't remember anything about his past and has no clue how he ended up in Silver Oak Pack territory.
Even with a new, young alpha, the Silver Oak Pack is not progressive. All the pack members are felines, and the pack doesn't accept newcomers, especially of a different species.
Cash knows Ore is his mate, but he doesn't want to get close to someone he can't have. Ore, all five foot two of him, refuses to give up. Cash makes him feel safe and protected. When their gentle cuddles go nowhere, Ore begs to suck Cash's cock.
Spoiler alert: Cash can't whip out his dick fast enough.
I suggest reading Clark's The Mobster's Mate prior to reading Tempest. A plot related to shifters being abducted and experimented on was introduced in that book and continues here.
That's not the main plot line, though. Ore's pack is being ruled by cruel enforcers, one of whom was harassing Ore and trying to force Ore to mate with him.
If you haven't read this author's Kincaid Pack series, you'll be a little confused. The Kincaid Pack world is all up in this story.
I don't understand authors who include every character and series they've ever written in every new book. Just stop it already. I actually think it discourages readers from starting a new series because they don't want to read the three series preceding it.
Finally, I have to mention the atrocious editing. I highlighted three editing fails out of many; all of the following were on the same page:
He'd never his little bird's health or safety -
We need a word after "never." Compromise?
Until he was nothing but a discipline worshiping at the throne of Ore.
The word she's looking for is "disciple."
and hips shuttling in at out at a fast, steady pace
In AND out, no?
That's on top of multiple run-on sentences and fragments. I'm all for creative license, but you have to know the rules to break them effectively. I'm not convinced that Clark knows the rules.
Also, the editor here was clearly high. How else do you explain the atrocities above?

Audio review edit:
I have previously read this book when the ebook was released and I enjoyed it a lot. It did not captivate me quite like a lot of Kiki's other books have, though, but I found that Kirt's narration really brought these characters to life for me and it made the story even more enjoyable. I don't think I've ever disliked a performance by this narrator, that's for sure.
I think I’ve said so before, but Kiki’s writing and characters just really does it for me. This one was a bit of a slow starter as the first 30% ish felt a little repetitive in terms of inner dialogue and not much happening between the MCs, but it picked up after that.
Cash’s issues with fated mates was touched on several times but not quite thoroughly explored, and his change from not wanting a mate to being all in with Ore was a tiny bit abrupt. I also wish we had more scenes with both or one of the MCs shifted, but what was there was very cute.
Overall a pretty uncomplicated shifter romance with two very sweet characters. Ore was a tiny adorable thing, and I’m so down for the body and 🍆 size difference kink.
You can definitely read this as a standalone, but I have recently read The Mobster’s Mate and really enjoyed actually meeting Liam properly, who we briefly hear about in TMM. I’m also excited for Robbie’s book, which we hopefully get in the not too distant future.
Even though it was a slow starter and a couple things I wish were expanded on, I still enjoyed it and finished it pretty fast.

He had a feeling Ore wouldn’t even reach his pecs when he was standing, and he had to fight back a shiver at the image.
Last night, Ore hadn’t even bothered to wait until he thought Cash was asleep to move closer. The second he’d slid into bed and turned so he was facing the door, Ore’s small body was plastered against his back, his face smooshed between his shoulder blades. He’d sighed like it was the best feeling in the world and passed out almost immediately.
He raised his brow and then lifted his arm, gesturing him forward. “Come here, hatchling.” Ore’s cute little nose wrinkled in annoyance even as he dove forward, burying himself against Cash’s chest. “I’m not a hatchling. You’re just enormous.”
When Ore just stayed frozen, Cash decided to give him a hand. He gripped the wide base and pointed the end toward Ore’s slack mouth. “What happened to all that big talk about needing to suck me?” “That was before I saw the baseball bat you had between your legs.”
{{happy sigh}} There's something about Kiki Clark's shifter universe that make my soul happy. A new start to a spin off series that can be totally read at the standalone but if you've read her other shifter books you'll see some familiar faces. With a quality eagle and panther fated mates pairing , I love when mates are different shifter animals !
Favorite Quotes Cash was purring. For him. “Terrified, little bit. You terrify me in the most exhilarating way possible.”
“I’m always paying attention to you. It’s hard to ignore your heart when it lives outside your body.”
“You don’t need to worry about me being safe, little bit.” “Yes, I do. That’s what you do when you love someone.”
I was looking forward to reading about the Silver Oak Pack after Quinten's story as I wanted to know about his brother Liam's pack. This book was amazing and the little community depicted here stole my heart. Cash is an enforcer for a feline shifter community. He is loyal to his alpha, Liam Amato, and has worked very hard to be where he is. Ore shows up at the border of the pack territory, he is an eagle shifter who is sick and suffers from memory loss. Cash is commanded to guard and look after the young shifter until Ore recovers his memory and can tell them what happened to him and who did it. This kind of was insta-love and I didn't mind a bit. Cash knew, from the first time he lay eyes on Ore, that the eagle shifter was his mate. He tried to fight it but eventually he just gave up. Fated mates are inevitable and Ore felt the pull towards Cash as well. I loved how they got to know each other before they succumbed to their attraction. I enjoyed so much learning about the Silver Oak Pack and how Liam ran everything. It was a nice place to be part of, a small pack but with a lot of potential. Ore showing up helped the Alpha change things that he'd wanted to change for a while. Also, this book was low angst, and with the right amount of drama to give Ore and Cash the push they needed. I always relish Kiki's shifters stories and I truly loved this one because it was sweet and romantic. It warmed my heart to see the love, passion and trust that Cash and Ore had for each other. It was touching to witness such a beautiful love. I can't wait to read the next one in the series. The secondary characters were very promising, and that includes Liam's nephew and a certain witch with a great hand at doing tattoos.
I've been so excited for TEMPEST because I've been curious about the Silver Oak pack ever since we met them briefly in the KINCAID PACK series. It was interesting to see this world from a different pack's perspective and I'm looking forward to seeing what new things are in store for Silver Oak now that the Alpha, Liam, is ready to start making some changes. We met a whole slew of new characters and saw some familiar faces from THE MOBSTER'S MATE and I can't wait to learn more about everyone and get their stories.
As for this book's couple, Cash and Ore were great together and they had a ton of chemistry even though Cash tried to resist it at first. The Silver Oak pack is an isolationist pack that only allows cat shifters to join and even though they're helping bird shifter Ore recover from his amnesia, Cash assumes Ore will be forced to leave once his memories come back. Of course, Cash can't hold out for long against the cuteness and sunshine that was Ore and I liked seeing Cash soften a little bit as the book went on. As for Ore, he was a delightful MC with a big heart and a sweet nature. They were very cute together and once things started getting physical it was very spicy. Kiki Clark always delivers on the spice with plenty of possessive but tender moments.

Tempest is the first book in Kiki Clark’s new Silver Oak Pack series, though it does connect to some of Clark’s other books. It is set in the same work as the Kincaid Pack series, as well as the standalone story, The Mobster’s Mate, and characters from those books make appearances here as they work together to stop a threat. While I have read The Mobster’s Mate, I haven’t read the Kincaid Pack series and I had no problem following along here. (However, if you are fans of this larger Kincaid shifter universe, you are likely going to really enjoy this latest series installment.) Clark also wrote a prequel story published in the now out of print Fated Mates anthology called Inferno; if you read that and enjoyed it, you will likely enjoy this as well, but there is no need to read the prequel to understand this story.
OMG. The narration makes this book just that much better. Kirt Graves does a wonderful job and brings these characters to life!
Another wonderful shifter story. Golden Eagle Ore flies through the warding of the Silver Oak Pack in Kansas and is confronted by Panther Enforcer Cash. Only Ore doesn't know how he got there, where he came from and passes out right after they meet. Turns out, they are mates, but Silver Oak doesn't allow outsiders, especially if they are not cat shifters.
This was a beautiful story of re-gaining memories, love winning over all others and the wonderful world of mates. I loved seeing characters from The Mobster's Mate and the Kincaid Pack and can't wait to read more.
“Based within the Kincaid Pack series's universe, the Silver Oak Pack features a pack first introduced in The Enforcer and His Mate. Led by Alpha Liam Amato, the Silver Oak Pack is small but fierce as they work to rebuild under Liam's newfound leadership.”
Clark is starting a new series that expands on the events that have happened within the Kincaid pack universe, a paranormal world’s organizational structure, The Council, was recently brought down by the Alpha of the Kincaid Pack. Rebuilding has been slow, leaving chaos and damaging ramifications behind.
That’s the situation Tempest finds the Silver Oak pack, dealing with the fallout, full of suspicion of change, outsiders, and the result is a pack that’s in stasis.
The portrait of a community frozen by its fears, history, and prejudice is clearly defined by the author. We understand the ramifications and the ugly consequences of this continuing pack identity will have on its members.
But that makes it hard to connect with others in this story. Or any sudden reversals in behavior or decision making.
The main character of Ore, the golden eagle shifter, who shows up wounded and unable to remember what happened, is an engaging one. His background is probably one of the issues here. While i like him, his storyline is also both interesting and not so well developed. It has potential but is wrapped up so quickly, for all the buildup, that you as a reader wonder what the problem was. It’s over in minutes. And it leaves another aspect of his story unresolved.
Cash, a felidae shifter, comes from a terrible background of parental abandonment. That’s contributed to his current situation as Enforcer and attitude of Pack first mindset. So his inability to accept his mate that literally falls into his arms because he’s not a feline, is both frustrating and understandable . To a point.
The author misses the mark here because, there’s a real lack of communication between almost everyone. Mates, friends, family, and importantly, the Alpha and those that are supposed to advocate for the pack or themselves.
So for most of the book no one talks to anyone. About important things. Yes, they do talk about if Ore’s getting his memory back. But other things? Nope.
There’s something else. The Mobster’s Mate, which is listed as a standalone really isn’t. It leads into this series as sort of a prequel, and should be read as such. Characters from that appear here and events there are important references here.
In fact it’s a better developed story and its characters have more chemistry and relationship than those here
Read The Mobster’s Mate, then read this. Tempest has potential, especially with its main couple but it’s got quite a few issues with its narrative that highlights the flawed development in plot and shortcuts.
Read it because you enjoy this universe and want to see where the ongoing mystery flows and how it develops.

(ENG) A great start to this new series by Kiki Clark. I must say that although it is not necessary to understand the plot, I recommend reading The Mobster's Mate to fully enjoy it. Even better if you have also read the Kincaid Pack series because that is where it all starts. Plus, all the books are excellent, so win-win! It's no news that I love all of Kiki's stories. She creates characters that we fall in love with incredibly fast. Both the main and side ones touch our hearts. In this story, the main couple is Cash and Ore, who meet when the latter, who is seriously ill and has lost his memory, enters the pack territory without permission,. Cash takes responsibility for him, realizes that he is his soul mate and nothing can stop them from having their happily ever after. Both characters are beautiful. Ore, with her sweetness, will bring out Cash's cute side. I loved the nicknames! By the end of the book we already have the main conflict to be resolved throughout the saga and I can assure you that I am intrigued! The three packs working together will be a treat to read.

Series: Silver Oaks Pack #1 Rating: 3 stars - I liked it
I was very happy to jump into this book because I really enjoyed the Kincaid Pack series and wanted to know more about the world. This book starts about a year after the events of that series and so we are finally seeing what has been happening in the parahuman world. A lot has changed and some people are capturing and experimenting on shifters, which is how Ore finds himself falling in Silver Oak territory, injured and with no memory.
“I’m always paying attention to you. It’s hard to ignore your heart when it lives outside your body.”
While this does have a bit of a slow start, I enjoyed Cash and Ore’s story once it started picking up and we started to find out what happened to Ore. Ore and Cash’s relationship was a fated mate's one but I really liked that they took their time and didn’t just jump right into it. We see them get to know each other and struggle to fight their growing desire for each other. Cash was very protective of Ore, which isn’t surprising since he is an Enforcer, but we quickly find that he is super sweet and great with kids. I loved the lake scene and how Cash was with the cubs. Ore was a kind and gentle man who just wanted peace and to find love, and he found it with Cash.
The end mission was great because we are starting to see how this new parahuman world will hopefully work. The Kincaid pack, the Amato pack, and the Silver Oak pack all worked together to deal with an issue and take care of shifters who needed help. I really enjoyed this collaboration and look forward to seeing more collabs in the future, especially with previous couples.
Overall, this was a great start for a new spin-off series and a great continuation of this world. I really enjoy this world and the couples within it. I can’t wait to read the next book.
TW: child abandonment mentioned; past stalking/ unwanted advances mentioned; medical torture;

Rating: 4 Steam: 3 PoV: dual, 3rd person Genre: paranormal romance, MM Main tropes: fated mates, shifters, forced proximity
Tempest was a really promising start to the Silver Oak Pack series!
I'm a total sucker for hurt / comfort and I love the way Kiki Clark writes it, especially in combination with fated mates. Cash and Ore's story felt close to The Mobster's Mate, as they shared a few tropes and some plot similarities: magic affecting health, amnesia and forced proximity, for example. I adored both stories, it was so sweet seeing the more caretaking side of the MCs, and how they slowly realised that they'd had their fated mates practically dropped into their laps.
Cash and Ore's romance was on the slow burn side, the first part of their story had a lot of setting and information, as well as inner monologues, in order to set up the story. The pace was great though, considering how the MCs met and Ore's condition. The way Ore instantly felt safe around Cash melted my heart, I can't resist stuff like that and I just adore the whole fated mates trope. Their feelings were very present and well written, I feel like sometimes the third person narrative can be a bit distancing, but that wasn't the case here at all.
I loved Cash and Ore together, they were a somewhat unexpected pairing to me (panther and bird), but they worked well together and there were so many cute moments between them! I was expecting a little more about Cash's past and his issues with fated mates, but I can also see how his feelings for Ore might have played a part in changing his mind. Their size difference was really hot, and the initial tension between them was great - they both spent a little time pining for each other and it was quite endearing to read!
Tempest was overall a great and enjoyable read, and I loved Cash and Ore together and the changes it brought to the pack. I'm definitely looking forward to spending more time together with these shifters and their pack!
- Thanks to the author for the opportunity to read and review this book. These are my honest thoughts and opinions.
Finally the wait is over! I wanted to read this book SO MUCH and let me tell you, it was as great as I imagined it would be ❤️
Ore and Cash are so perfect and cute together! Loved how possessive and protective Cash was of his mate 💕. Also, I LOVED the idea with the mating tattoo! It's something different from the tea in the previous books, and I absolutely adored it 💗.
It was so great to see the characters from previous books again! Loved their interactions with each other! And I really hope to get more Dare and Nero going forward! Would it be too much to ask for them to get their own books? 😁💖
I already can tell that I'm gonna be in love with this series, the same way I was with the Kincaid pack and the Mobster's Mate! ✨️ I loved the characters and cannot wait to read more about them and finally get to the bottom of that fighting ring!
Also, I really hope that the next book is gonna be Saint's story, because I absolutely ADORED him! He's so funny and charming, I just know that his story is going to be fantastic 💜
Anyways, I cannot wait to read the rest of the series! I just LOVE how Kiki Clark writes shifter romance! The cosy atmosphere in her books, the small town, the pack that is this big family that would do anything for each other... Everything is just perfect 💫
Awesome start to a new m/m paranormal romance series!
Kiki Clark is one of my favorite paranormal romance authors, and I'm so glad she is continuing to write about the world she started with the Kincaid Pack series! There was a bit too much exposition in the first chapter, since the author was trying to recap the important parts of a seven book series, but once we have Cash meet his injured eagle shifter Ore, it gets the book going.
Loved the chemistry and seeing the love grow between Cash and Ore, and how they wanted to help each other be safe and happy! It works as a stand-alone, but you will definitely get more out of it if you read the Kincaid series first.
Also, I really want Robbie's story so bad! He has a crush on two people?!? I need answers! Four and a half stars rounded to five because I just love Robbie, haha
The beginning was good but then it just died off. Nothing exciting. The change in heart came out of left field. While you could possibly read as a stand alone I just think it would be confusing. There’s so much from other books that gets mentioned WAY TO MUCH to be a standalone. The conflict was wrapped up way too easily like honestly boring and I almost DNFd because of that. Just underwhelming if it would have been my first from the author I probably wouldn’t want to read any others. I hope the next one is better.
ALSO PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD STOP HINTING AT COUPLES THAT DONT HAVE BOOKS. Like should have been written prior to the first book. I went and looked since I was interested in reading it first just to learn it hadn’t been written yet but is under “prequel” on the authors page. I know it might just be my pet peeve but 🙄
I am so excited for the sequel series to the Kincaid Pack! I loved the Kincaid Pack and this first book left me with so much promise for the Silver Oak. series.
You can already see how different the two packs are and I find myself so interested in this small, more quiet pack. I liked that the first book did not start with Alpha Liam, who I can already tell has a different way of going about things, and the tidbits I saw of him prepared me for his book and backstory. I do recommend reading Mobster's Mate before reading this one.
The couple in this book was adorable, Cash and Ore. They are very similar to other couples you read in Kiki Clark's books but they still provided a good introduction and base to the pack/story. The pack seems so interesting and I cannot wait to learn more!
Tempest by Kiki Clark is the first book in her Silver Oak Pack series. It is the story of two different kinds of shifters who find love as life in their packs is changing due to unsettling times. Cash Lawson is a panther shifter and one of the Enforcers in the Silver Oak Pack in Kansas. He is dedicated to his job of protecting his packmates, all of whom are cat shifters. His alpha, Liam Amato, is a lion shifter and has only been alpha for a few years and knows that if they don’t start accepting other species of shifters that their pack will eventually die. But many of their members oppose any changes so he has let this be for now. Then one day Ore Whitlock, a golden eagle shifter, flies across their wards and Cash is sent to see who has done this. When he finds Ore, he is seriously hurt and passes out so Cash brings him back to his house where his Pops, a healer, and Fern, their head witch, work on him. Even then Cash feels something for the eagle shifter but pushes this out of his mind because of his job and he also knows that once Ore is well enough he will have to leave the pack’s land as only cat shifters can stay there. When Ore regains consciousness his mind is a blank and he only remembers his name. Fern thinks that his memory will come back eventually and they want him to stay because he may know about things that affect the pack and the Council as well as a lab that is taking shifters and experimenting on them, which they think may have happened to Ore. Because he may also bring trouble with him, Liam says he must stay in a room in the Alpha House basement which is basically a jail cell. But Cash says he can stay with him and his Pops and he will watch him, which is what happens. As time goes on Cash and Ore get to know one another and the more they know, the more they like, but Cash fights it as much as he can because he knows Ore can’t stay. Still they grow closer and closer and finally succumb to their attraction in a very hot love scene with more to come. It is then that Cash knows that Ore is his fated mate, something Ore had also figured out, and has to make a decision of what to do if Ore is sent away. Then Ore’s memories start to come back which leads to a confrontation at his pack that includes members of the Kincaid Pack as well as Liam’s brother whose dealings are not quite within the law. This then changes Liam’s thinking as he decides that Ore can stay as well as opening the pack to other kinds of shifters and the inevitable change this makes for everyone. All of this makes Cash and Ore extremely happy as they can now express their love and stay together. I really enjoyed this story. Cash is a strong man with a sense of duty that is challenged when Ore arrives. Ore is sweet and loving yet also strong when facing his memory loss and what this means to both of them. There is danger and suspense involved as Ore’s memories start to come back and what this leads to. There is also angst as Cash has to decide if he will leave with Ore if he is forced to go, even though his job means everything to him. Pops, Liam, Fern, the other Enforcers as well as the townspeople also play a big part in the story as things happen and change comes to the pack. I highly recommend this book, especially if you like stories about different kinds of shifters who discover they are fated mates, magic, lots of action as things change around them, and finding out that their love means more to them than anything else.
I am not even going to pretend I was not eagerly awaiting this expansion of the Kincaid Pack Universe, and, just as I was not let down by the novella Inferno that gave a sneak peak into the Silver Oak, Tempest was an absolute delight! It was so good to be back in the world. The Kincaid Pack Series is one of my favorites, as I love the layers of found family, pack dynamics, shifter lore, and magic, combined with the romances, and I can tell the Silver Oak Pack is going to give us those aspects in a new setting with new characters (plus some visits from old friends).
Genre Paranormal Romance Pairing Shifter + Shifter; mm Universe Book 1 of the Silver Oak Pack; expansion of the Kincaid Pack Universe (completed series, not required to read to understand this book, but Tempest reference things from it); Novella Inferno was an introduction to the pack, but not necessary reading; The Mobster’s Mate is more of a story arc introduction; story arc will continue, but pairing has an HEA Vibes Memory Loss; Fated Mates; Size Difference; Touch him & Pay Warnings **Author’s Note includes list** Detailed, descriptive intimate scenes; references to off page torture; reference to off page stalking; amnesia; reference to kidnapping; brief on page offing of a bad guy; use of fictional slur
There were so many things I loved about this story. First, Cash and Ore are precious. Cash being all grumbly and cranky but also such a sweetheart on the inside while Ore being a little whirlwind of energy and joy was just a fun dynamic. I was also surprised by how things went. I expected certain things to happen in certain ways, based upon how things were being set up. But Ore had other plans! I also really enjoyed the expansion to lore, both in mating practices and magic. I desperately want a magic tattoo!!!
I am already excited to pull on the story threads being stitched here. From figuring out why a certain mobster’s son spends his time in Kansas, to why Myles is so insistent about learning magic, to Saint’s upcoming trip and his goings on with Jorge. I WANT MORE!! Waiting can be so cruel.
But to be sure, this book is the opposite of that. It is overwhelmingly sweet, with just a slight amount of angst, a portion of hurt comfort, some steam followed by spice, and intrigue. I love it!
I received an ARC of this book from the author. The thoughts in this review are my own, freely given!
Tempest is the first book starting off the Silver Oak series, and what a way to start it off! I really enjoy the way Kiki writes about shifters, she makes those characters feel realistic, and describes them in such detail that you can envision them. In this book we get a first look at the Silver Oak pack, who the alpha is, who the members are, and what the pack dynamic is like. I loved the Kincaid Pack series, and I was very eager to read this one. What I appreciate the most about what Kiki did with this book is how she made this pack completely different from the Kincaid Pack . And she achieved that with not just the characters, but by how the pack operates, along with where the pack is located.
Ore's character was so adorable, the descriptions of him being so small in comparison to literally every one else was so endearing. His and Cash's relationship was a slow burn, Cash was fighting his feelings, and Ore was struggling to remember what happened to him. Cash was a grumpy cat but also had a soft underbelly when it came to the kids in his pack, his friends, and his mate. I liked seeing his character have a softer side to him. I enjoyed the way their relationship gradually grew, I loved the scene where they were both in their shifter forms playing together, it was so cute!
One thing I want to point out is the fact that we don't learn completely what Ore went through or what happened to him completely. A few details were mentioned but wasn't completely explained. This series, like the Kincaid Pack series, has a overarching plot line that will continue through each book. It keeps you eager to read more so you can figure out what's going on, and who's behind these heinous crimes.
I felt as though it progressed well, the pacing was nice, the side characters were great. They helped give us readers a glimpse into what to expect as this series goes on. There were a few side characters that caught my interest; them being Robbie, Saint, and Finlay. I wonder if these men will eventually have their own books, and if they do, who they are going to end up with. I'm very excited for the next book in this series, and I'm looking forward to seeing how this series progresses!
Tempest is the Kiki Clark's return to the shifter world she created with Kincaid Pack, and what welcome return! The new pack is the Silver Oak Pack which was introduced in Kincaid Pack book 5 The Enforcer and His Heart, and the prequal stand-alone book The Mobster's Mate, and the book revolves around Cash, a Silver Oak Pack enforcer and the mysterious Ore - a eagle shifter who literally crashes into the Silver Oak Pack with no memory of how he got there or his past. Throughout the story we get glimpses of the dynamics of the Silver Oak Pack, introductions to a host of intriguing side characters and the further exploration of the mysterious "facility" that Caden from The Mobster's Mate also escaped from. At the heart of the story is Cash, a panther shifter, fiercely devoted to his pack and Ore, the lost eagle shifter with no memory of who he is, where he came from and why was running, and showcases what Kiki Clark does best - expanding the "you're my fated mate and we belong together" trope and showing development of progression of a relationship between these two characters. While they are fated mates and "meant" to be together, it isn't all insta-love and lust (although there is plenty of lust and heat between these two) - the story shows how they learn about each other and come to trust and respect and love one another. And it isn't all sunshine and roses after the accept they are mated - there are obstacles to overcome and a dangerous mystery to be solved. The only "fault" I found was that it felt like we were left "hanging" with the where Ore and Caden were held prisoners and why and who was behind it all. But I assuming this will be resolved in future books as there are a bunch of wonderful side characters that I am hoping will get their own books. And bonus - we got to see some familiar faces from the Kincaid Pack and Quinton Amaro's Pack from The Mobster's Mate. This was a great introduction to the Silver Oak Pack and look forward to reading more!
Tempest by Kiki Clark is Book 1 in the Silver Oak series. We met this pack and some of the members in the Kincaid Pack series as well as the Mobster’s Mate. This book focuses on Cash, a panther shifter and Enforcer for the pack, and Ode, a bird shifter who has lost his memory. I think this could be read as a standalone, but it does reference characters from both series.
The Silver Oak pack is a cats-only pack and looks at outsiders with suspicion. When Ode breaks through the ward, everyone wants to get rid of him as soon as possible to not cause an uproar amongst the pack members. I guess what bothered me is that they mention many times that only cats were a part of the pack, but they have a vampire second who I assume is part of the pack and there are witches as well. Maybe it was only referring to shifters. But what would be the difference? Even if you found your fated mate, if they weren’t a cat they couldn’t stay.
Cash knows that Ode is his mate but doesn’t want to claim him due to the exclusive pack and the fact that his parents were fated mates and horrible people. I absolutely adored Ode and didn’t like how he was treated at the beginning of the book. He was so sweet, kind, and obviously injured. He was treated like a spy and no one trusted him. I loved the rock tradition that bird shifters used to show that they loved someone. So stinking sweet.
I am very curious about the other members of the pack (of course) and cannot wait to read more about them. It was so nice to see a few of the Kincaid pack members and Robbie.
It was a great start to a new series.
I received an ARC from the author for my honest review
Title: “Tempest” by Kiki Clark Series: “Silver Oak Pack”, book 1 Out Now and on KU!
**Note: this is the beginning of a new series, but the events in this book are heavily influenced by the events in the Kincaid Pack series. It is not necessary to read the Kincaid Pack series, but I highly recommend to do so in order to get all the relevant information and the background for the characters who make cameo appearances
🐈⬛ KIKI. My dear. What kind of crack do you put in your books?? I was very lucky to receive “Tempest” before it was released, and I devoured it in less than 24 hours. The heart and humor are on point, and I am so happy we get to revisit the world of shifters from the Kincaid Pack series. I wasn't ready to give them up, but “Tempest” and the Silver Oak Pack are promising to fill that void very well.
🦅 Cash is an Enforcer for the Silver Oak Pack. One day he comes across an injured golden eagle shifter on his land that calls to his panther on a spiritual level. He has found his mate. Now comes solving the mystery of where his mate has come from, how his eagle found himself on the other side of the country from where he started, and how the shifter community can stop some of the evil running rampant after the dissolution of the Council.
Pick up if you love: 🦅 A broken Eagle just trying to find his place in the world 🐈⬛ A panther trying to balance his work, his family, and his mate 🦅 Dismantling oppressive political regimes 🐈⬛ Cameos from previous books 🦅 Dropping rocks. Yes, this was the cutest scene in the entire series 🐈⬛ A delicious mix of dirty talk and sweetness
I loved this book and the main characters' dynamics! Ore, a wounded eagle shifter with amnesia, ends up in the Silver Oak Pack of feline shifters' territory. Cash, a panther shifter and enforcer of the pack, is sent to check out who is in their territory. Their lives collide and both realize they have a deep connection and attraction to each other, but while Cash immediately suspects that Ore is his fated mate, he refuses to accept at first that there is a possibility for them to be together, because his pack doesn't accept strangers or shifter species other than felines, and Cash has always been loyal to his pack.
Although, the two meet fairly early in the story, there wasn't really much direct interaction between them until the end of chapter 7. They barely spoke to each other. Hang in there, because once they start interacting, it's hard to put the book down. I love the main characters and side characters. The relationship between Ore and Cash develops so sweetly, and if you love protective alpha types, Cash is exactly that. I really, really enjoyed their story and their interactions. The plot is interesting and revolves around the memories Ore has temporarily lost. The story ties in to previous books with an overall theme connecting them and other characters we've already met. I enjoy Kiki Clark's writing style very much. The dialogues between characters flow smoothly. This is a great start to her new spin off series. The story sets up possibilities for the next few books.
💜🧡 I enjoyed being sucked back into the parahuman world & the Kincaid Pack Universe.
Tempest takes place in Silver Oak, with the feline shifter pack there. Y'all, I adored this story. So many big feelings, and I just wanted so badly for the two mcs to be happy!
Cash is a proud Enforcer for the Silver Oak Pack. He loves them all so much and just wants to protect. He has tons of issues, but he's so endearingly sweet. Sent out to the boarder to check for a breach he finds an exhausted eagle shifter.
Since this is a fated mates story, you know what happens. And it DID. And it was GLORIOUS.
Ore crash lands into the Silver Oak Pack, unknowingly setting off a series of events and unlocking a mystery. All while finding his fated. *squeals!*
I loved Cash and Ore together. I loved their miserable pining. I loved their angst.
I also loved how the author writes an underlying plot that takes place throughout every book. The Kincaid Pack series had the [redacted] storyline, and the Silver Oak Pack has their own mystery too, that kickstarted in THE MOBSTER'S MATE. You don't wanna miss that one.
TEMPEST will be perfect for you if you're looking to get lost in a shifter romance with: found family, pack & pack dynamics, size difference, amnesia trope lite, well written characters, and a book you just don't to put down. Not to mention pretty fire steamy scenes.
I loved Tempest. I loved Cash and Ore. Loved the side characters. Loved seeing *redacted*!!!!!!!!!!!
I was surprised to see Kiki Clark was writing a spin-off series from the Kincaid books. I don't really remember a lot about the Silver Oak Pack from that series other than they made an appearance. It was easy to dive back into the world but I do have a few grievances with this story.
First off, the book is said to be the first in the Silver Oak Pack. HOWEVER, Kiki wrote a 'stand-alone' called The Mobster's Mate, which centers around the brother of the Silver Oak Pack's alpha, Liam. These external characters are referenced so frequently as is their story that I found myself confused and annoyed that I didn't read it first. Especially now given that the storyline has basically been spoiled. So disclaimer, go read that 'stand-alone' before this.
In terms of the story, I like the new spin on a hidden danger. I like that the Kincaid pack is still trying to figure out this new paranormal government. Things weren't wrapped up and cleaned up nicely. The romance between Cash and Ore was a delight. Ore's amnesia added an extra element of surprise, as did Cash's trauma. The solace these two found in each other was cute, ya know, after Cash finally gave into the whole fated mates thing.
Overall I would say the story is on par with Kiki Clark's other works. Would I comeback and read this book, no. Is the story going to leave me with a book hangover, also no. But was it a quick little escape read and palette cleanser, yep.
Good start to a new series set in the same universe as the Kincaid Pack. It does state that you don't need to read what came before but that would be helpful as some characters and parings are mentioned but not explained, and characters appear from previous books. I have had all the Kincaid but haven't read the prequel to this one and I did feel that I had missed some storyline.
I loved Cash and Ore. The Silver Oak pack is very isolated and only accepts feline shifters, they're also very untrusting of outsiders. With Ore being without his memory it gave them a chance to get to know each other as he got better. I did enjoy this part of the storyline. I did feel that they jumped to sex kind of out of the blue. They were platonic and yes attracted to each other and then boom here we are.
Once Ore got his memory back the story picked up as the pack moved to help another, and we moved away from the guys getting to know each other to the overall story arc. The previous characters were introduced and it was great seeing the ones we did.
I like that the overall story arc will obviously be addressed over the series, and I'm looking forward to continuing on to see where it leads. There are a number of characters I'm very much looking forward to their stories.
Tempest-Silver Oak Pack is a great start to a new series. Having been very excited about the Kincaid Pack series, I was looking forward to this spin off in the world of the Kincaid Pack. Cash is an enforcer of a pack of cats who live a very isolated life. So far, he has never regretted swearing allegiance to his alpha and the pack. Until an injured Eagle Shifter shows up and awakens his protective instincts. The Eagle Shifter Ore is sweet and likeable, but he has gaps in his memory. What happened in the past? Why is he hurt? Cash and Ore discover that they are fated mates, but they don't rush things. I liked this because the slow burn romance fit very well here. The two started off with a few dates where they slowly grew closer. I liked Cash from the start and it was nice to see how protective he is of Ore. The author's writing style is wonderful and the pace of the story was also good, as was the development of Ore and Cash's relationship. For me, this book was an entertaining read. I was pleased to hear Kirt Graves narrate the audiobook as he has previously narrated the audiobooks in the Kincaid Pack series. He does a fantastic job and gives each character a fitting voice. He also reads at a good pace and brings the story to life.
I loved this start to the brand new Silver Oak Pack series. We have previously met certain members of the pack both in the Kincaid Pack series, but also in ‘The Mobster’s Mate’.
Ore finds himself arriving on packlands with no memory of how he got there and very little memory of anything else in his life other than his name and the fact he’s a shifter. The Silver Oak Pack is very insular and is immediately wary of trusting him but Cash just knows there’s something about Ore pulling them together. The start of a new mystery (also dealt with in ‘The Mobster’s Mate’) and a race to discover who the new big bad is has begun. I am looking forward to how it all plays out, both the big bad but also what the Kincaid Pack is working towards (no spoilers!) near their territory.
I feel like it could be read without having previously read the Kincaid Pack series BUT I would recommend doing so at a later date as there seems as though we might have many cameos throughout the series due to the nature of the Kincaid Pack members investigating and knowing the relationships between characters could provide a wider understanding of events. PLEASE let Robbie’s book be sooner rather than later! I am begging.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
This book is set in the same world as the Kincaid Pack, but you don't really have to read them for this one. It was nice knowing who some of the reinforcements are though (and they're good reads too).
Cash had a horrible childhood, his parents abandoned him to the care of his marvelous grandfather. But, the abandonment has shaped how well he deals with change.
Ore escaped from something and doesn't have access to his memories. He crashes into Cash's life and pack and nothing will remain the same after.
I liked this book. The Silver Oak pack has a long way to go. They've isolated themselves from the rest of the world and the issues that caused are brought into play. Liam Amato (brother of Quinten from the Mobster's mate) has only been alpha for a couple of years. He wants to make changes, but there are a lot of people within the pack resistant to that change.
I liked the various dynamics going on in the storyline. The nebulous bad guys are probably going to be a building theme as we progress through the series. So the answers that we want now, aren't there and now I have to wait on pins and needles for the next book!!
I know I'm safe with you while I'm here, yes. You're so protective of everyone, I'm just grateful to get to feel it.
I was so happy to return to the world of the Kincaid Pack! Clark delivers the trademark balance of swoon, spice, and plot.
Ore (eagle shifter) and Cash (panther shifter) are super sweet and adorable together. And I love me some good fated mates action. Ore arrives hurt and broken, but somehow knows he'll be safe with Cash. As Ore works through the healing, trauma, and his feelings for Cash we get bits and pieces of the mystery that will be the overarching plot of this story. Which I have many questions about?! And very excited to see how it plays out.
Cash is an pack enforcer, and natural born protector, dealing with some childhood trauma... and watching him work through that, admit his feelings, and welcome Ore into his life. His heart. Swoony.
I really enjoyed this read! The characters were fun, and I'm looking forward to seeing who our favorite side characters find their hea too. <3
*advanced copy. thoughts and opinions my own.*
A standalone, with some tasty cameos from previous books.
