Displeased with the strengthening economic and military ties between India and the U.S., China turns to a terror organization in Andrews & Wilson’s Ember.
A&W are unicorns. They write books in the time I write a review, and unlike my reviews, their books don’t suck. They are topnotch and the unicorns are unafraid to take chances and push our imaginations into areas I’d rather leave unimagined.
The unicorns live in the military/political realm but their books offer much more. There’s action and violence balanced with intelligence, heart, and love—love of country, teammates, family, and humanity. Extreme actions have consequences and the characters struggle with them. The characters’ emotional toll forces us to look inside ourselves.

The Tier One series by Andrews & Wilson together with Sons of Valor are my two favorite series from this duo. The best single book they have written is of course Rogue Asset and I really hope there will be more in that series. For each Tier One and Sons of Valor the picture of the characters grow and we all come to like them even more. Ember is the latest and it's number 8. I wonder sometimes what batteries these guys use, I could use that myself. Once again a great action packed thriller with a superbly told story and now it's only to wait for the next. Thanks to Edelweiss and Blackstone Publishing for letting me read this advance copy.

I sure do like Jack Kemper/Dempsey. Great action and spy stuff, great relationships between everyone, great story. Kelso Jarvis is certainly coming up in the world, much to his chagrin. I think Munn is my favorite character - good old boy operator who can shift easily into medical doctor. Grimes, Wallace, Prescott, even Jake Kemper and his curiosity about his dad.
Overall Ray Porter just brings it to life brilliantly. I always look forward to the next installment.

What a great book. Long but really hits a lot of the “oh my God” spots. Of course you have to start at #1 or this book becomes a 2 star adventure.

Another remarkable covert ops adventure from the dynamic duo. They continue to thrill and enthrall me with their work.
After a relatively obscure terrorist group successfully pull off two suicide bomb attacks and an attempted attack on Jarvis in Israel Ember is tasked to reel them in.
The terrorists seem to be operating with more technology and expertise than they can conceivably have on their own.
With all the foreshadowing of Dempsey's son's advancement through SEAL qualification it seems inevitable their will be a meeting between father and son down the road. I am both anticipating and kind of dreading the meeting.
I apologize that my review is much more disjointed than the books by this amazing pair, but that's why l'm not a novelist.

Another Tier One Thriller from Andrews & Wilson and it is a banger. Tons of action, great cast of characters(old & new), and a plot that will keep you on your toes. You simply can't go wrong reading anything by the co-authors and this book sets up for another Tier One Thriller featuring Ember. So just buy the book when published and buckle up for the ride.

Andrews and Wilson with another frigging home run!! Their entire Tier One series is thrilling and I love how it intertwines with the Sons of Valor series. Can’t wait until the next book! I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, do yourself a favor and go read the entire friggin series….you will NOT be disappointed!!

Another great terrorist/espionage book from Andrews & Wilson. Great plot, non-stop action & tons of patriotism. I give it 5 stars because you they don’t allow a 6. Great read!

Dempsey at his finest… this was a great action packed & fun story. I really appreciate how Andrews & Wilson keep a good pulse on current events and still maintain integrity. The story is true to the Tier One series. I enjoy a good story that I can immerse myself into. I can appreciate the weaponry, and I like they have tied in some weapons you could purchase. I think they have done a great job with the introduction of a new female character, and I am interested to see how she becomes more involved. Overall this was just what I needed over the 4th holiday. Can’t wait for the next one!

Another entertaining installment in the Tier One series. A&W always seem to stay on top of global geopolitical threats and continue to weave interesting stories around them. I appreciated the premise of this story where a false flag terrorist operation is used to conceal the main plot driven by China’s MSS. I found it intriguing to see the change in Dempsey from his time in Russia’s notorious IK-2 prison and the impact his change had on the team.
I’m anxious to see where things go with Jake. Will he show up in the next Sons of Valor book or do I have to wait until the next Tier One book? It’s always hard to wait for the next book in this series but thankfully the authors have other books coming out this year.
The Author’s Note at the start of book had a great message. So glad they included it. I wish more people would heed their message.
I love Ray Porter but the sound editing in the audiobook was patchy. It was very obvious where retakes had been patched in. 5 stars to Ray for his narration of the characters but 3 stars to sound editors.

After changing to survive a Russian prison Dempsey returns to the US and tries to return to his old life but after a devasting attack on US and Russian leaders, Ember team has to track down the attackers and stop further attacks on the US . Also follows Kempers son as he goes through buds training on his way to become a seal and his growing awareness that maybe there is something he wasn't told about his father's death. Still my favourite series, escapist, action military action.

Enough already
It's just so predictable...... I don't want to spoil it for anyone but, the setup is too easy, too unrealistic and frankly too lazy. Didn't make it past that point because what happens next is all just too predictable. Andrews & Wilson will certainly have gotten the military tech and techniques right, but time to retire Ember and John Dempsey.

Warfare by proxy goes next level in Ember when China sponsors and builds up a minor Islamic radical group to perform decapitation strikes on the heads of state of the U.S. and India. The aftermath takes Ember places no one would have ever anticipated (unless you are up on your Jack Ryan plot lines - nuf said). Ember is a terrific, nail-biting, techno thriller addition to the Tier One saga.

Dempsey is back, but is it the same JD? A great addition to the series full of fantastic character development and world building for the rest of this arc. Another 5/5 for me.

This series is like pizza. It’s always good, even if it isn’t from your favorite restaurant or top-notch ingredients. Jarvis’s (temporary?) good health is a bit convenient, as is the reappearance of Eleanor Jordan, but the action and storyline of this book are interesting. The authors have effectively teed up an eventual Kemper family reunion, and I’ll gladly come along for the ride.

I have stated quite often that I am a huge fan of this writing duo and of the several series that they currently have ongoing at the moment, so I was excited to see that there was a new release in this series. This series, I think, is one of the first that I fell in love with. We are on book 8 and now there is even a spin off series in the same world - but with different characters - but to me this is the original.
We have seen John Dempsey and the group at Ember through an awful lot and the last few books have been pretty tough. It almost feels like we are on a kind of redemption arc for JD. Not that he needs it, but he is changing - has been forced to change - and I think he is finally realizing that he is okay with who he is turning out to be.
I was also noticing in the last several books that the authors were dropping many breadcrumbs involving Jake Kemper (JD's son) and I knew that eventually, the storyline was going to move in that direction. Without going into spoilers, that becomes more apparent after this book.
This book has some major changes happening in the world, changes that specifically impact the Ember Group and Kelso Jarvis. As usual, the action starts immediately and does not let up until the very last page. We get to see someone come back from Dempsey's past, yet that storyline wasn't really tied off and still felt like a loose end. Actually, come to think about it, it actually felt like this book was setting off several new story arcs with several new plot lines that were kind of resolved, (resolved enough to feel like there was an adequate conclusion to this book) but really did a great job laying out the groundwork for the next few books. We have a new antagonist - and it's going to be a doozy - and we have several storylines that are just waiting to be developed.
So- another winner. Oh, I can't forget to mention that Ray Porter's narration is just perfect for this series. Actually, I haven't found one that he isn't excellent at, but he does a particularly good job in this genre and it makes listening a joy.
Now the wait begins for book 9 :)

A great book. Incredible action and a great and believable story. I have read every book in this series, and can safely say that this is the best book in the entire series.

Great read. Non stop intrigue & action.

A great continuation in the series. It introduces the next antagonist smoothly, and continues to push the separate narratives that were introduced earlier, with Jake, and Eleanor, and Jarvis. I like how the book ends with enough of a question mark that we know there will be at least one more in the series, but wrapped enough to feel satisfied. Fantastic series, each book is just better than the last, and I cant wait to see where the team goes next!
