A poet, a writer, an actor, Master Mariner, an entrepreneur, a philosopher and a spiritualist. No, we are not talking about multiple individuals here but one man who is an amalgamation of all the above, Capt Kunal Uniyal, our very own wandering monk. A young and celebrated author of 13 books in 7 languages, Kunal is a true inspiration for the present generation who find it difficult to balance their personal and professional life. He has dedicated his life to the spiritual upliftment of dejected souls.
A well-read person, Kunal is a first-class postgraduate from the prestigious Cardiff University; a professional Master Mariner and a passionate writer. He is a Founder and CEO of International Maritime Business Academy (IMBA), India’s first Maritime Management School dedicated to commercial shipping operations. Born and brought up in Dehradun, 12 years at sea inspired Kunal to come up with his first hindi poetry collection “Kuch Khwaab Sagar Se”, launched in 2014 by the honourable speaker of the legislative assembly. He was called to France for the literary meet along with discussing his works and was felicitated by House of Life; a literary society. This was followed by felicitation by the Rotary club, in France. He was felicitated by Nautical Institute, London for his book and was nominated for Sailors Today Award, in 2014.

His English prose and poetry book “Unanswered” was released at the international film festival, Gurgaon on 5th December by famous director Mr Sudheer Mishra. The book was appreciated by both Bollywood as well as literary worlds. On 6th February 2016, he was felicitated at the Seafarer choice awards 2015 at The Lalit, Mumbai biggest award function in Indian nautical field which drove nominations and voting from around the globe.

This was followed with felicitation by Anglo-Univan Group and NGO Apna Parivaar for his contribution towards literature. In August 2016, his second Hindi poetry collection "Main Tula hoon" was released by the Honourable Chief Minister of Uttarakhand in the presence of respected dignitaries from both the bureaucratic as well as literary worlds.
His English poetry book Sparrow in the mirror is published in London in 2017 and has been appreciated by famous political and literary figures. This includes an appreciation by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, Mayor of London and First Minister of Wales. The book has been catalogued in the British Library. His books have been translated into several languages which include French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and Dutch. His poetry collection " Kuch Khwaab Sagar Se" has been translated into Urdu in Pakistan.
Kunal has received the Author of the year award (Fiction) for his mythological adventure “Journey to the Next Level- The Forbidden World”. The concept of the novel came into existence when the author was sailing on the high seas and started having out-of-body experiences. The novel is based on events and places that actually exist and dreams that the author can clearly relate to the levels beyond life. Hindu Mythology and stories from the Puranas have been utilized to add substance to the book.
