It’s the start of senior year in college, and Jock, Goth, Nerd, and Prep are officially boyfriends! With the support of cute boyfriends, school should be a breeze . . . right? With their powers combined, the polycule might just be able to talk Nerd out of overloading his schedule and help Goth finally learn what a credit is.
Through navigating the adventures of dating life, the boyfriends come to understand themselves and each other in new and profound ways. Their polyamorous relationship continues to blossom, and that means learning about everybody’s quirks and finding new ways to show their love for one another. And…occasionally stealing one another’s clothes.
The boys support Jock at his football games and hold an intervention for Prep when he gets wayyyy into a cozy video game. Everyday tasks like laundry, groceries, and cooking take on a new charm when the boyfriends are together. Silly bets, adventures in fan fiction, and a sweet visit home make for a very memorable semester.
Plus, the guys make some new friends and realize they’re not the only queer polycule on campus…meet the Girlfriends! With the help of some Sapphic wisdom, maybe the boyfriends will be able to figure out how to four-way kiss.
Laugh-out-loud funny and always heartwarming, Boyfriends is filled to the brim with moments of pride big and small.
Collects episodes 56–100 of the delightful WEBTOON comic Boyfriends.
Can we talk about the artwork of this series, please?!?!!! I can not with how UTTERLY GORGEOUS it is! The vivid colors are so aesthetically pleasing, especially to someone whose artistic style is “unicorn who farts glitter and rainbows,” ie. ME!
I found out (via the internet) that the boys (and now girls) have real names and aren’t only Jock, Prep, Nerd & Goth. Those names just aren’t in the books at all.
Jock - Kevin Prep - Vincent Nerd - Adrian Goth - Felix
Which I kinda love. When I go forward reading I’ll have something else to call them… in my head, obviously. Since it won’t be in the comic at all.
I loved the addition of the new poly quad in the story, as well as Kevin’s family. His older sister is the Jock of their group and the glue that holds them all together. I still love the boys more, but the girls are just SO CUTE!
My favorite part of volume 2 was all of the characters in chibi form (I want them as stickers) and the short story rendition of The Little Mermaid with the boys playing different characters from the story, but still ending up together. 😱😍
This was an even better volume IMO than the first and I’m interested to see how the story progresses. Thanks to WebToons Unscrolled for gifting me a copy of the finished book.
It's more of the same; some new characters are introduced, and I love them a lot. The surprise artstyle swap for the ff chapters is super cool and made my fingers tingle with the urge to draw >.<
Somehow even better than the first one? The sequence in a different art style with a story similar to the little mermaid (but better) was totally my favorite part. Loved this.
still an abundance of cute, but the addition of the girlfriends balances it out, as they aren’t as overly sweet, which i think is a good thing.
rep; goth bf/felix is trans, asexual, gay, polyamorous, and chinese. jock bf/kevin is bisexual, polyamorous, and vietnamese. nerd bf/adrian is a pansexual, polyamorous, and japanese demiboy. prep bf/vincent is gay, polyamorous, and chinese/singaporean. goth gf/luna (mc) is lesbian, polyamorous, and indonesian. jock gf/alex (mc) is pansexual, polyamorous, and vietnamese. nerd gf/lala (mc) is asexual, non-binary (uses she/they pronouns), polyamorous, and filipino. prep gf/stephanie (mc) is bisexual, trans, polyamorous, and korean.
More of a 3.5 star rating; I read this on the WebToon app and enjoyed every bit of it. It was very sweet seeing how all of the boys handled whatever issues came their way, and how effective they all are with communicating. It was adorable seeing all of the boys go back home with Jock (Kevin) and met his mother and older sister. I also really enjoyed meeting the Girlfriends and seeing all of their different relationships and interactions with the Boyfriends. If the Girlfriends ever got a spin-off series, I’d read it in asap. Overall, this is a very sweet and wholesome series to read and I’m eager to see what else happens with all of the characters.
This series is really cute and wholesome with pretty artwork and a host of different LGBT representations that are done mostly well. A little fetishised and over the top at times but it's a gay adult author writing about gay/bi/pan adults so I don't really care?
Only thing is that this does get quite stale at times with how repetitive and samey it is. I wasn't expecting a huge plot or masterpiece but it does feel a little tired. I'm maybe hoping for some more development and depth in future volumes
Absolutely love this comic! The characters are so fun and the idea is unique and playful. The art is really vibrant as well which makes reading it all the more enjoyable. I think the small slices of their life as the chapters flows really smoothly. Will definitely be reading Vol 3 (and more online!)
this is so gosh darned hecking cute it makes me giggle every time I pick it up. the guys' relationships are all so cute and I was not expecting to get a gay girl counterpart?? honestly it slaps. also the mermaid au was absolutely adorable, I love that we fully got like three chapters of just a boyfriends fanfiction. the art is also still absolutely gorgeous, I wanna live in these books tbh.
I read this as it released on Webtoon and what fun it was to revisit these characters !! I love how the author expands the world and introduces family and friends as the series goes on!
