Handcuffs were slapped onto my wrists (to the delight of my meddlesome sister) and I was taken directly from my bakery, to townhall and placed in a comfy, temporary jail cell with a group of other jovial townspeople also “arrested” for the day.
I’m happy to be here, supporting the spring fundraiser for the county food bank.
Except…
Sheriff Underwood, the very same intimidating orc I’ve been crushing on for the last six months, is the officer who personally apprehended me. The male who normally ignores my very existence. But the moment those handcuffs went around my wrists, he growled and sniffed my hair?
After we’re all settled in our cell with donuts and coffee, a tornado siren blares.
The Sheriff stands much too close, a rough hand on my hip and his lips against my ear.
Mmm. Maybe he does know I exist?
* * ~ * * "Arrested by the Orc" is the ninth sweet and steamy monster romance that makes up theSweet Monster Treatsmulti-author, shared world collection. Each book is a standalone, containing its own 'Happily Ever After', and can be read in any order -- (but the series is likely enjoyed most when read in order, as characters may appear throughout the stories!)
Be sure to explore all the titles brought to us by three bestselling authors: • Book 01: "Cookies For My Orc Neighbor" by Michele Mills (2023) • Book 02: "Candy For My Orc Boss" by Ava Ross (2023) • Book 03: "Cupcakes For My Orc Enemy" by Honey Phillips (2023) • Book 04: "The Single Mom and the Orc" by Honey Phillips (2023) • Book 05: "Single Dad Orc" Ava Ross (2023) • Book 06: "Twins For The Wild Orc" by Michele Mills (2023) • Book 07: "Undercover Orc" by Ava Ross [2024] • Book 08: "Protected by the Orc" by Honey Phillips [2024] • Book 09: "Arrested by the Orc" by Michele Mills [2024]
Michele Mills lives in California and leads a life of quiet, G rated desperation with her husband and two sons. In an attempt at a fulfilling, R rated inner life that does not include Disney movies and Nickelodeon; Michele reads and writes filthy romance and, well...filthy romance. And she wouldn’t have it any other way.
Bowen is the first orc sheriff in a human town and kind of a celebrity because of it. He moved into town and saw Sadie right away, but he had to stay away at first. Now six months later he finally has the chance to get his mate. Sadie is his fated mate and he only can feel desire for her. Instalove, fated mate, sweet, steamy, romantic and safe with a sweet HEA and no drama 😍😍😍
Minding her business and rocking out to some T. Swift as she does her baking for the day, Sadie gets slapped with some handcuffs and carted off to "jail" to support the local food bank by the hunky orc Sheriff Underwood.
Sadie has had a massive crush on the sheriff for months, not realizing that his feelings are equally requited until he corners her in her cell... Which causes some minor drama due to Sheriff Underwood not understanding how human customs differ from orcs, and that he may or may not have been leading someone else on unknowingly.
Once all the miscommunications are cleared up, Sadie and Sheriff Underwood get their happily ever after! If you're not a stickler and look past how fast paced the story is (and the lack of character development), it's a really sweet and steamy read!
The beginning had so much promise but the book was such a let down. Even for a novella it was so rapid pace. The tornado? Out of left field. During scene meant to be sweet the author takes time to pause and describe multiple times how an orc rebuilt a house. Before anything happens her family interrupts?!? And finally when we get to the sex scene it is so lackluster. I wish I DNFd.

A funny and cute novella, but I wish it had been just a little longer and fleshed out the characters more. Everything was fast-paced, as to be expected, but it felt like everyone was just saying "yes, and.." or "okay!" to anything that didn't quite make sense. I really liked the cinnamon roll MMC that Sheriff Underwood was and their mutual pining and the connection to the other books in the series. A great palette cleanser low-angst insta-love novella!
Im not even kidding when i say this was written by a teenage girl. I mean the thought process, the internal monologue that doesn’t matter. The main characters responses make me lose brain cells why is this rating so high.
Lets give an example- note that this is an 88 page novella
And lets give some context before i throw quotes at you.
So boom Bowen tells Sadie ur my mate blah blah right, and of course the whole prison cell is watching the SHERIFF sniff this girls hair and confess. Anyways theres this reporter that has a crush on the sheriff and is like always talking to him so the whole town thinks they’re dating even though he politely declines every one of her advances and remains professional. Of course she doesn’t get the hint. This is sadie and bowen talking inside a jail cell full of other town folk, alright let’s go.
“What are you doing in here with me? Shouldn’t you be busy holding Amanda like this?” She huffs and fully steps free from my embrace and steps away. “Why don't you go back to your girlfriend and get hugs from her.”
Very childish but lets keep going.
“You and Amanda are a couple, so why are you in here hugging me and acting like you are…I mean, that’s so rude. Of course I love hugging you too, but she’s right over there. Why would you do that?” “Because I’m sexually attracted to you,” I admit, inhaling her reciprocal arousal for me that again fills the air. “And I’m tired of denying it. I want you in my bed, tonight, if you’ll accept.” She swallows. “Um…what…what do you expect me to say to that? How… how can you say that when your girlfriend is standing in the lobby by the front doors? It's not fair to her or to me.”
“But I'm not dating Ms. Amato.” “Yes, you are,” Sadie charges. “They told me you and she were…” “Who told you?” “Everyone. Everyone in town thinks that Amanda is your new girlfriend and for some reason you're keeping it on the down low maybe because you think her dad won't approve. We're all trying to figure that part out.”
And this next part its not the plot that bothers me but the dialogue and shitty writing it just feels very wattpad and surface level. And i know its a novella but idk her random assertiveness to coach him into turning Amanda down is mad weird to me, ESPECIALLY when she doesn’t fully understand the orc bond and scent like girl why u actin like you know.
“ you told her explicitly that you've scented your bride and it is not her? You don't have to say this in a mean way. It's just that she's got to know the truth because otherwise, you're leaving her hanging. That's not nice either.”
“And you look really good in that uniform. You need to go over there and nicely tell her, with no way for her to misunderstand and don't be mean, that there's nothing between the two of you. And remember, it's important that you scented me. And what does that even mean that you scented me? What are you talking about?” “You are mine.” “Yeah, what? For a date. You want to date me?”
Lets move on because this is the part that annoyed me fr. It’s like when the author writes two different characters responses in the same way making it blatantly obvious the lack of skill to form individual responses and to customize them to that character.
Context- the sheriff confronts the reporter/Amanda
“I thought we were going to go out together after…?” “No. I never said that. That was your idea that I never agreed to.” “But I thought…” “There’s something I need to tell you.” She glances at the cell. “What did Sadie say about me? Is this because of her?” “Sadie is my mate. And she said nothing negative about you and instead said that I was the one who was treating you badly. I apologize that I wasn’t clear before.” “Clear about what?” “I do not want to be your mate.” “No,” she wails. “No… you do want to be with me. That’s why we’re always talking like this. You want to go out with me, you just haven’t had time to go out on a date yet, but soon. In fact, tonight is perfect.” “It’s not happening. I do not want to be your mate.”
“Yes, you do.” I shake my head at her persistence. “When have I ever initiated you and I being alone together? When have I ever spoken to you outside of a professional context?” “Well…um…but I really thought you were just taking things slowly because you’re an orc. I thought I was basically your girlfriend, in your own orc-type version of girlfriend.”
Like girl its just giving stupid!! Like i feel like im reading a story about very dense teenagers.
And just for shits and gigs this is how she wrote their first kiss
“Let me show you how I feel. May I kiss you?” “Hell yes, of course you can kiss me.” And then he literally possesses me. I’ve had a few make out sessions in my life, but this puts all of those to shame. This one kiss is easily the best of my life. His lips are so plush. His arms go around me and at first he gives me a tender kiss. Tentative, as if he’s waiting to make sure this is what I want.”
“I kiss him back with everything I’ve got so he truly understands I’m right there with him. This man is so cute. An enormous, powerful male who is so very careful with his consent and how he treats me with care. He knows he could harm me and wants to make sure it never happens. And yet at the same time he’s so protective, making sure no one harms me with words or actions on his watch.”
Gleeful Goblin Review: It was a pretty minor plot point but I swear, when I read that our FMC's push for going into having her own bakery was having her job that had been remote make the push to back in the office I cackled aloud because ho boy relatable content. I also love that the author found a way to relate real world issues like intolerance and bias to this fictional world and illustrating a better way to have social issues move forwards. "Lots of the people in town were perturbed that our new sheriff was going to be an orc. Not me. I thought it sounded fabulous. People fretted over issues that weren’t even real. "How is this going to work considering orcs are so primitive and war-like?” "This is going to ruin business. Why would anyone want to vacation here with an orc stomping around and scaring them away? Do orcs even know how to act civilized?” “Orcs kidnap women off the street and drag them to their caves.” Some townspeople even felt our orc sheriff was only here because of “quotas” and that we didn’t need meddlesome lawyers and politicians trying to interfere with who we chose to employ. But still, I wasn’t concerned. First, I’ve never believed any of those conspiracy theories continuously spread by certain media outlets that “other” the orcs. Modern orcs don’t hurt anyone unless they are outright attacked, the same as any human. And second, I like the idea of getting to know and work with a real orc, instead of only hearing about them on TV. In fact, orcs were recently given government reparations and a formal apology from Congress and the President, to make up for centuries of past mistreatment by humans in North America. We’d broken many treaties, stolen orc land and raided and burned communes. Mass killing of orcs by deadly teams of humans with high-powered guns and bombs was a sport that was only recently outlawed. But thankfully laws were passed making orcs equal citizens under the constitution. Their disparate communes are now considered one state and each commune is its own county. Soon there will be two orc senators, and a few orcs included in the House of Representatives. Times are changing. And now…we have the first orc sheriff in the country."
The story itself is simply darling and an excellently lighthearted but steamy time. I blazed through this book and regret nothing. 5/5 Stars.

Sadie (h28), co-owner of the One Big Bite bakery, starts her day normally until Bowen (H32), the town's new orc sheriff, surprises her with an arrest as part of a charity event. Despite the surprise, Sadie finds herself drawn to Bowen, who has secretly admired her from afar. Bowen, who has kept his distance due to the intense nature of orc mating instincts in winter, uses the event to finally express his feelings for Sadie. During the charity event, a tornado warning forces everyone to take shelter, and Bowen’s protective nature reassures Sadie, deepening their connection. After the storm, Bowen confesses his desire for a committed relationship and despite initial misunderstandings about his romantic status, the two are more than ready for things to heat up, though Sadie's whirlwind of a family has some timing issues. Loved the mentions of other orc-human relationships and that the orcs are finally getting out of the communes. The special cupcakes are a sweet touch too. Hot and steamy orc-human romantic quickie with a pinch of angst, a sprinkle of laughs, and a drizzle of spice making for sweet treat.
This was such a FUN story. A big green Orc has moved to town to become the new sheriff. He means no businss, but he's sorta known for being a nice guy.
Sadie runs a cute little bakery in town, and finds herself obsessed with the new Sheriff Bowen. Little does she know that he's known she's been the one since the moment he saw her just as he got into town. It might take a "fake" arrest, and a very real tornado to get these two together.
The story is great, but i totally loved the humor. You've got far too blunt of Bowen, and sorta shy Sadie. I love how these just sorta got each other, and even through the hard statements. Sadie has been reading all the book she can get her hands on about Orcs. SHe's learned a thing...........or two. She isn't as intimidated as you would think about her big green Orc.
There is something wholesome about how Orc's know their mate, and there is no worry of cheating, or changing their minds, or worrying of how they really feel. Feels almost refreshing when life in modern times can see nothing but crazy.
Michelle is a true artist as writing a story that is funny, different, and oh so adddictive. Read NOW!.
I enjoyed this book. I was a fun story. I read a lot of fake relationship books, but a fake arrest was a first and I had to see it. What a unique meet cute.
'I had no idea I was going to be arrested today. If I’d known, I would’ve at least dressed nicer.'
What an opening line!
“The County Food Bank spring charity run is today,” my sister shouts in a sing-song voice. “And all of us joined in together to send you to jail as a donation.”
Sadie and Bowen make such a cute couple, and the attraction between them is mutual even at the start. I liked most of the supporting characters.
The interruption of Amanda Amato felt silly and unnecessary to me. At first I expected a scheming, pushy woman for some drama. But the "miscommunication"/"different cultures" excuse seemed very unlikely for her to think they were dating under the circumstances, and it felt like something to just add pages and be a short obstacle. The (also short) natural disaster was a lot more interesting to me. This story went by entirely too fast. 3.5 stars.
I loved this cute, romantic novella. Sadie is a wonderful/sunshine kind of person. She moved back "home " to be with her family . I loved how she had a crush from the very first time she saw Sherriff Underwood. Bowen aka Sherriff Underwood has known Sadie was his mate from the first time he saw her. I loved how he protected her from afar, not wanting his natural impulses to take over him. After all it was in the middle of the winter he first saw her. I loved how the miscommunication was resolved. And how he handled Amanda. Perfect HEA. The flow was good , the world building was also good. I could feel the frustration and confusion from Bowen and Sadie's shyness. Well done.

Everyone knows that orcs claim their bride during the dark of winter season. And it was winter when Sheriff Bowen moved to town. He knew Sadie was his, but he fought through his lust until spring. The town thinks he's dating the local news girl, not understanding that orcs don't casually date. Just as he's about to ask for Sadie's consent, the tornado sirens go off in town. Will they make it out okay? Does she know what she's getting into?
Her family arranging her arresting by him for the charity run was cute. The town sticking up for Sadie was nice. Improbable, but nice.
There are times when you just want something happy with some great characters and without too much stress or drama. This is exactly what I wanted.
There is a lot riding on Bowen being the first Orc sheriff as his is something of a trial job upon which the possibilities for other Orcs rest but that is about the sum total of the angst. He proves himself to be kind, honourable and basically just one of sweetest people who is waiting for the right time to do things. Sadie is always doing things for others while at the same time accepting that she is pining from afar for the sheriff.
The characters are instantly likeable and that inculdes the perpheral ones too. The book is funny, engaging and light reading. It made me happy.
I really love all these Orc romance books from this collection. I don't know how I missed this one. Each one by a different author, but they stick to the Orc courting rules. Never claim a Bride the dead of Winter. Always make sure the Human Bride knows if they as much as kiss, he's locked in as his mate. She will be pregnant with an Orc son immediately after the first time they mate. She will never have daughters, and there is no divorce. You gotta love your Orc Hubby, cause he will never cheat, the touch of another woman trying to flirt will cause such revulsion, he immediately needs to smell around his wife's neck to calm down. Why don't we have Orcs for real!? Trish. A.
I was so excited for this book that I had the release date written in my calendar so I wouldn’t miss it. Unfortunately this book was rather underwhelming. Let’s start with the positives, which is that the characters and premise are adorable. The downsides however is that everything in the book happens at a rapid fast pace, there is no character development whatsoever and there was very little depth or detail when it came to the plot. To say I was disappointed is an understatement.
I thought this story was sweet and romantic. The main characters were alarmingly irresistible. Despite how quickly their relationship progressed and maybe somewhat I bit out there, I loved it.
There were parts that seemed a bit repetitive and written poorly. Making me feel like it was a different author writing it.
Having said that. I did like it. Understanding Orc traditions and how the mating season worked could have been more developed, but what amazing and understanding parents Sadie has!.

A short, and therefore quick read in the sweet monster treats series, this is one of the orc romances in Michele Mills’ orc world. This time it’s the new orc sheriff and the town baker who come together for a sweet, stormy time!
While this is a standalone story, it is set in the same world as a few of Mills’ other orc books, and does lightly reference one. It’s not imperative to have read those first though, because this is completely separate.
If you enjoy monster or orcish heroes, and fated mate tropes, you’ll love this quick bite of a steamy romance.
Orc, Bowen, was made town sheriff. He scented Sadie as his mate the moment he arrived but as it was winter he needed to stay away from her until he had more control. Sadie felt drawn to Bowen the moment he arrived in town but thought he didn’t like he as he avoided her. When he arrests her as part of a charity event the closeness means he can’t stay away from his mate any longer. Sweet, steamy, fun story with amazing chemistry, true love, a wonderful, protective hero and a beautiful HEA.

Blechhhh, gonna be a hard no for me. It's got that mix of stilted overly formal dialogue and characters that cream their pants at the sight of each other.
I made it to the Sheriff dumping his non girlfriend, her wailing, then him telling whatshername she's his mate and if they touch skin they're mated forever. But he'll go live in the mountains alone if she doesn't(?). She's basically like OH SEX? And then there's a tornado while the virgin baker pants after the sheriff like a horn dog
I'm sure gushing ensues, seeing as he could already smell her arousal across the room
Bowen tries to be polite and not upset or scare the humans when completing his Sheriff duties, but in doing so he inadvertently allows one pushy human to tell the town they are dating. Not what he wants to hear when he finally wants to claim his mate! Bowen and Sadie are adorably awkward together, both have no experience and limited social skills as they try to combine two lives, two very different traditions and two interfering families! A fun addition to the Sweet Monster Treats series which I read on Kindle Unlimited.
What a sweet little tidbit! Sadie is so sweet but she is also strong. She knows what she wants and it is the new Sheriff in town. When Bowen saw Sadie the first day of his new job he knew she was his mate but he needed to wait. Their chance comes when he arrests Sadie for a charity event. This is such a wonderful Novella! I enjoyed everything about it. I hope there will be more in this series by these authors! Loved it!
This was a great orc romance. Bowen is waiting for the right time to claim his mate. Orcs know right away but he couldn’t go after his in the dead of winter. Sadie has been crushing on the orc sheriff since he got elected. She isn’t sure how to get his attention then she finds out he is dating the news reporter. And her heart breaks a bit. Thank goodness for a tornado and the springtime. She gets her orc and he gets his heart’s desires.
Michele Mills writes some of the sweetest spicy novellas. This is a good one. Sadie is a baker whose family and friends arrange to have her arrested as part of a fundraiser. Sheriff Bowen Underwood makes the arrest, and their love story takes off. HEA guaranteed. Ms Mills' characters are well written. It's a quick and enjoyable read.

This is a sweet love story about the sheriff and the baker. Bowan scented her when he first saw her and knew she was his mate. But the dark of winter was coming and he knew his orc instincts would take over. So he watched her from a distance. Sadie saw him when he first came to town and was smitten. And he ignored her. Until she's arrested for a charity fundraiser. Michelle gives us fun characters, humor, a bad storm and nosy family in this sweet love story.
Bowen, an orc sheriff, let's Sadie know after six months of waiting for the dark winter to end, that she is his fated mate. Sadie, human, has spent the last six months crushing on Bowen. She thought he was dating the local news reporter and kept her crush to herself. The day she got arrested for charity, Bowen made his feeling and intentions known. Wonderful characters, steamy, romantic, and HEA.
