Childhood traumas and adult losses have made Nichelle untrusting and jaded, and she wears it on her sleeve for all to see. Seeing her friend thrive, she decided to change her life for the better. Meanwhile, Anton, obsessed and determined, has set his sights on Nichelle, willing to manipulate her to make her his at any cost. But when she fights him at every turn, how far will he go?
I can surely count on Shantel to give me toxic love story like no other! But why do these crazy, toxic men fascinate me so much? 🤷🏾♀️ Anywho, Nichelle’s momma f’d her up! Chasing behind a man who didn’t give a damn about her and allowed her daughter to see and feel all the pain that rejection brought to her life was selfish! Then to go out like that, and leave her daughter with that image for the rest of her life? 🤬
Nichelle didn’t trust men or love. All they did was hurt, lie, cheat. She wanted no parts of it. Although she wants the storybook life with a husband, kids, etc. she doesn’t trust that she can have it, just isn’t possible. Her mind and heart just will not allow her to let go of the all the trauma she endured during her childhood. Those memories are stifling and keeping her from living her best life. 💔
Anton! Lawd, this man was crazy obsessed with Nichelle. He was tenacious in his pursuit of Nichelle. Almost to the point where it was scary, but none of that bothered Nichelle at all. She loved making him chase her, however, she ignored him at every turn. The extremes that Anton went through to get her attention was just next level as he had to know her every move. Stalker much? 👀
Whew, these two took me through it! But I enjoyed it all. I hope Lev is up next.
I decided to read this book because the synopsis was decent and the cover was amazing 😍 She is literally stunning.
I liked the premise of the story...Nichelle was broken, scarred from childhood trauma. Her mother was so in love with a man it consumed her until the end. The aftermath had her hating her father and running to an unhealthy relationship that further skewed the way she saw men. She was extremely guarded and never allowed them too close. That is until she met Anton. They had an undeniable connection, but she refused to entertain him.
Anton was head over heels for Chelle. He was mesmerized upon meeting her. She kept playing him to the left despite the connection that buzzed between them. He knew that him being white was a problem, but she seemed to be guarded like Fort Knox. Anton was low-key unhinged, there was a LOT of crazy behavior exhibited by him and .....I didn't hate it. Hey I love an unhinged MMC🤷🏾♀️. He didn't want anyone impacting Chelle's happiness...or his with her for that matter. Despite her pushing him away at every turn he was resilient.
I liked their interactions. Sex was intense and he seemed to genuinely care for her. As everything she thought she knew about her life unraveled he was there to help her put it back together.
This wasn't a bad story, but the editing could have used some polishing and the ending felt extremely incomplete. The epilogue completely felt undone...it just ended 🥴
I enjoyed Chelle and Anton story. Chelle had a lot of stuff going on especially with her mother so I understand why she against love. I don’t really like age gap romance however, I like the way this author wrote about this couple age gap.
Davis, I really need for you to get an editor, please!
This book is part of a series but isn't marked as such so I went in not knowing characters and their backstory. I do love that 'Chelle is a broken fmc and despite all the baggage/ trauma, Anton loves her.
I can only handle this author every once in a while, forgetting how bad it gets. She absolutely specializes in dysfunctional characters that need a therapist. She does warn readers mockingly with frustration about the "readers whining about it." Why not try something different for readers that repeatedly mention it is my question🤔? I'm not sure why other themes aren't explored...ever? The men are always toxic, obsessed and dangerous if not psychotic. Meanwhile, the FMC always have some parental wounds, a trail of subsequent life traumas, bad decisions, and uses sex to cope. This book follows the same model🙄. This one at least tried to have somewhat of a plot twist, with some closure/reconciliation at the end. I have to give credit in that regard. There was a blip of improvement, hence the 3 stars. But if you love a dysfunctional couple, this will be your jam🤷🏽♀️
I really liked this story. I liked the development of Nichelle. She felt real and her distrust was understandable. Now Anton was a true Stalker, his butt was not having it... lol. I loved Anton when he went to beat up her Bones was killed.date. Anton was crazy in love. Though he was kind of obsessive , he was still funny to me. I really enjoyed his insights. Nichelle’s was somewhat frustrating to me, but in her defense, her past messed her up. I liked the story. Now curious about Lev. I will look for more books under this author. Oh yeah, the typos were kind of annoying... It was confusing on Bones being killed yet bugging Nichelle still. So a timeline is needed to clear up when or if Bones was killed.
A fun and engaging read however it needs editing sooooo bad. So many mistakes that it’s distracting.
I truly enjoyed this story. Their love and attraction was so aggressive and intense, it all worked so well. Chelle is such a strong and stubborn character with a good amount of trauma to keep her fortifying her walls to protect herself. Anton is such a great force against those walls with his toxic intensity but true love and appreciation for her. While over the top and dramatic it was perfect and exactly what I wanted from them.
Lots of twists and turns here but I was seated and enjoying the ride. Aside from the need for another pair of eyes to just clean this up, it was a wonderful read! Could have been a 4 star but firmly sits at a 3.5.
Shantel Davis tells a compelling and intoxicatingly toxic love story that hooks you from the beginning. Nichelle's traumatic past, shaped by her mother's selfish actions, has left her distrustful of men and love, resulting in a deep emotional conflict. Anton's obsessive and relentless pursuit of Nichelle adds an intense, almost disturbing element to the story, keeping you on the edge of your seat. While the characters' flaws and extreme behaviors may not appeal to everyone, this author's storytelling will captivate readers who enjoy dark, complex romance stories. She usually hits my sweet spot when it comes to toxic love. Four stars.
they were both annoying has people. but Anton ... lord have mercy LOCK HIM UP!!
i usually always have fun reading this type of books! it's addictive! you never know what's the next hinged thing they're going to do!! but he destroying her apartment out of rage because she was talking with a men? and he never tells her this, she stays with him with zero knowledge that it was him and just assumes it's the other guy! and it was one of her main issues because her father was exactly like that!
honestly this goes even below Adam & Eve ... they've both toxic as fuck ... but kinda mean in a weird way ...
There were some annoying errors in the text like missing words or the wrong word choice was made several times. Overall, this was not a bad read… the story was toxic af, with the main character Nichelle having trauma from both her mom and dad issues which made it hard for her to trust anyone. Her male counterpart, was a stalker just as obsessed with her as her ex. He came across a little unhinged, but I guess that fits for this sort of dark romance.
For me this was an okay book. I think that Anton and Chelle had chemistry and Anton was into her very much so but the characters were a bit unlikeable. Chelle was kind of childish and toxic, yes her past trauma was the reason but she could have given an inch or tried to give Anton a chance. Anton being a liar and not being redeemed also didn’t sit well with me, also Kenneth just coming out of nowhere? Otherwise though this was cute.
This was actually light work compared to her other work I have read, but man can Shantel, tell a damn good story, the scenes the characters the sex the girl is talented and I love how it's not all mushy and sweet, it's real dirty and dangerouse 10/10 would def recommend, there was some sentences tht I could look past but a Debby downer will complain, it's easy to understand what she meant so if you see some stank talk about that ignore it and read this story ♥️
This was kind of a dark romance. It had me wondering how you can save someone that does not want to be save. Is love ever enough and would truth and communication have prevented the trauma? The story had underlying action. It also had a way of provoking thought about how easily some people erect emotional shields to prevent hurt.
The FMC was irritating. As for the MMC his attitude didn’t work with the person he was supposed to be. He was a complete simp, letting Nichelle and her sister completely disrespect and use him in the name of love. At the same time we are supposed to believe he is a dominant. As for the story, it didn’t feel like a romance but more like a succession of one night stands with unnecessary games and drama thrown in.
Well dang!! I have literally no words!! Anton was a lot to deal with to be honest he is literally obsessed with Chelle!! And Lev….he needs a story because he is too sinister to not have one.
I've been waiting on their story and I loved how the author set-up the heroine, she had the big bad boy on his knees. I bought this book without reading it, because I knew it was going to be a delicious read and it was devoured!!!
I'm not sure how I would describe Chellle and Anton. Anton comes off as a stalker and psycho will his obsession of Chelle. And Chelle is stuck in her head carrying relationship hurt that doesn't belong to her along with her own bad choice in a former relationship.
This was a short novel that was jam packed with emotions, sarcasm, and a teeny tiny bit of mischief! This was the first title I’ve read from this author and I will be looking into her catalog for my next read!
Ms Davis has done it again and Anton is my new book boyfriend!! I like how Chelle kept him on his toes. I read this in one sitting! So ready for her next book!
Storyline was okay. I think it could’ve been developed more. Nichelle was a bit unrealistic to me. Anton was obsessed but very much likable. Felt like it was missing something.
It was okay I loved how devoted Anton was to Chele and making her life better. I understood that Chele had a lot of ptsd but the fact she pushed and pulled basically the WHOLE BOOK was annoying. I also didn’t like the fact that the author made the ending rushed, we never even got them directly saying they were together and in a relationship and then we see them engaged in the epilogue like…😐💀
