How far is Cody willing to go to keep his dragon? Kirit is lonely and he's sick of coming home from the king's assignments to a cold, empty cave. After searching for years for a mate, Kirit decides it's time to try a new approach. Against the advice of all his friends, he heads for the human side of the world. There he finds Cody, and the man is everything he could ever want. It takes a little bit of persuasion, but he manages to talk Cody into coming back with him to Faerie. Within a week of arriving, Cody is beginning to rethink his impulsive decision. He's trekked across more terrain than he would care to remember, been summoned to meet a king, and flown on a dragon-not an experience he's willing to repeat anytime soon. Kirit's growly possessiveness is starting to wear on his nerves, and the unexpected hostility he encounters at the palace is almost enough to make him give up. But Cody is stubborn. He may not be willing to admit it out loud, but Kirit has got under his skin. He may even, shockingly enough, love the big guy. Now Cody has to decide what he's willing to do to keep the man of his dreams.

head. hopping. makes. me. crazy.

in addition, i can only conclude that making the love interest an aggressively unclever and vainglorious prostie-twink was probably a mistake, as i fairly quickly found it in me to detest the ever-living fuck out of him.

at one point i was actively hoping for disembowelment.

I like dragon stories. The concept of this one is interesting with the dragon, Kirit, crossing over the Veil to the human world to look for his mate. I think the big disappointment for me was the reveal:

I'm looking forward to the stories of the other dragons so I'll try the next book but this one fell a bit flat.

I must admit I'm rather torn on this one.

Overall its an interesting idea. I loved the mystical realm theme, although I certainly didn't understand a thing regarding the palace politics, or exactly what the Fae are. A little more world building would be nice. For instance we hear the palace dwellers called nobles but there seem to be no other dwellers except the soldiers. We never meet any workers for want of a better word. Who supplies the palace with food and clothing? Not to mention Seamus seems to almost despise his people or at least the nobles. I was left wondering why.

Seamus is far to confusing at this stage. I'm assuming we will get to know him in later stories.

Kirit is adorable. He is everything I love in my dragon fics. Strong but lovable, fierce but cute. I loved him to pieces.

The other dragons I can't wait to get to know better. Especially Raven and Nyx. Chaos we got a pretty good look at and he certainly seems the most fun lol.

But Cody? I just couldn't find myself caring much for him. He annoyed me most of the time, and when I wasn't annoyed I was frustrated with him. He was just a character I just couldn't find myself drawn too. He just hit a lot of my dislike buttons including he was a little too fixated with sex for my taste. Not that this book is over whelmed by the sex scenes, but Cody sure thinks about it a lot. I think I'd of rather seen Harper as the other lead. I do hope he makes more appearances.

This book also had a fair amount of editing errors. From continuity errors and the mixed up or extra words to a name mix up towards the end. Nothing too major but enough to cause me to pause and re read sentences over.

It's always hard for me to rate a book that leaves me with such mixed emotions but I'm going to say its more a 3.5 but edging towards a 4 for the pure joy of Kirit.

Oh and while Kirit and Cody's story is pretty much done, there are plenty of unanswered questions left for the following books.

Enjoyable bread-and-butter M/M romance in the Amber Kell/Stephanie Hecht school. Hand-wavy world-building and no depth, but likable enough.

DNF 12% - If I had 99 cents for every time I said to myself "It's only 99 cents, I'll check it out." and didn't check it out or got very far when I did, I wouldn't be trying to justify upgrading my kindle along with a lovely new case as much as I am. Sigh...

So this story didn't go very well pretty much from the beginning, it felt very simple and silly. I tried to adjust, enjoy it for what it was and go with it but that didn't work. The characters never managed to grab me and then the peeves started adding up:

-There was plenty of internal dialogue in italics. Not something I usually have a problem with, but I didn't find it appealing or engaging here and Kirit's actually made me cringe. Things like: "Bad cock. Not yet". and "No crushing the mate."

-I could tell there was much "growling" ahead if from what I read up until I stopped was any indication. I didn't care enough to bother with a word count search. I didn't want to end up growling myself.

-Head-hopping like I encountered here, where I can't figure out the pattern, is guaranteed to give me a headache. I stopped mid-sex scene as soon as I began to feel a slight throb on my temple from the hopping. It didn't seem worth it for me to risk a headache at this point.

Kirit and Cody are a great couple and this first book in the series is a fun instruction to the world..

I love heroes who want to fall in love and want a partner. Both of these heroes do.

Cody does well negative the world with elves and dragon shifters and others. and the romance is good.

Dragons

Who doesn't like dragons. Kirit is great. I love that the dragons are so literal, makes for some entertaining dialogue. Cody is fun. I love when he gets all protective and his mouths shoots off only to then remember who he is talking to. No fear
This book had me laughing out loud at times even on the reread

At first, I saw this as Dragon fluff...a little shallow and simplistic, but I was having fun reading it. Then the plot started to drag, and I didn't understand why things were (or weren't) happening. A lot of it felt unnecessary and contrived. Later, the reasons became clear, but it was an annoying storyline. Add in Cody starting to really irritate me and my enjoyment turned to exasperation :(

The end was sweet, though, and kind of redeemed the story for me. Plus, Cody wasn't irritating me anymore. So, the story moved from cute/fun to irritating to sweet. *shrugs*

Side note:
The frequent head hopping was a bit disorienting but not obnoxious.

Enjoyable, light, and easy read and a good introduction to this series. Maybe a wee bit too light. Would like to see a bit more world-building in the next story.

It was fun reading material. The world "K.M. Mohoney" made up is interesting but still it could be more.

Story plot is easy and reading goes fast.

The Romance Review

Snarky rent boys are in high demand as of late. When Cody is debating a change for something better, Kirit offers him a chance he cannot pass up. Once Cody learns more about Kirit, perhaps he shouldn't have been so quick to leave his home. Finding out the handsome man who is great in bed is from another world is not an everyday occurrence.

Cody works the clubs as an independent entertainment contractor. Kirit is a dragon shifter from a race known as a Draak. He lives beyond the Veil where other magical beings exist--Fae, ogres and druids. Kirit has been alive for a long time and pines for a mate. Tired of waiting, he comes to Earth to search for a mate. When he finds Cody, he won't let him go.

The plot of this story is simple and lightheartedly fun. Even Cody at times pokes fun of a true mate. Ms. Mahoney is a good storyteller who keeps the story lively with comical characters. The characters are adorable. Cody is a boy with an attitude. He is irreverent to those with authority, although usually at a respectful distance. Kirit is a funny character because he takes everything so literally. His lack of understanding makes him quite endearing. The dynamic between the two characters is hysterical at times and gooey loving at others. Kirit's possessiveness is adorable as he growls and keeps Cody close to his side.

The story flows at a decent pace. Ms. Mahoney clues the reader in on a conspiracy which is neatly resolved by the end of the book. However, there are a few threads in this story which are not fully explained. For example, Cal is aware of witches but it is never explained exactly how he crossed their paths before. In addition, the worldbuilding is a bit light. For those who read fantasy frequently, they can fill in the blanks. For those who are not familiar with fantasy, it may be a bit hard to understand. This paranormal romance is recommended to m/m readers who love dragons.

Amusing in a simplistic, insubstantial way. There wasn't much here. A couple OK sex scenes, some over the top snark, and a lot of aimless, self-created mess that passed for action. Meh. I thought Kirit's good-natured (if grumpy), borderline dim-wittedness was pretty adorable and the other dragons were interesting side kicks. Cody however grated on just about every nerve I have. But then, overly mouthy characters that mysteriously get away with aggressing on power figures who would otherwise crush disrespectful persons always annoy me. Essentially, I was disappointed with a lot of aspect of the book, but still managed to enjoy it on the most base levels.

This is the second time that I read this book. As I started out reading this, I was surprised that I didn’t remember anything about this book. It wasn’t until towards the end of the story that I vaguely remembered any of the plot points. The book was okay. Obviously, it isn’t very remarkable because I didn’t remember much about it going into my second reading. It was entertaining, I liked both Cody and Kirit as the main character. The secondary characters were great. I especially liked Chaos. Overall, it’s a good story. Just not a memorable one.

Cody is not your typical rent boy. He is actually fairly happy with his life and not really looking to make any kind of change. However, the only dark cloud in Cody’s otherwise contented outlook is the fact that a local pimp is determined to move in to the area and demand that the local rent boys give him a cut of their fees and, unfortunately, he has the muscle needed to back up his claim. So when Cody spots the incredibly charismatic man at the local bar one evening, and sets his sights on snatching him up for the night, he is rather dismayed when the pimp decides Cody should pay him a visit instead.

Kirit is not from this world. In fact he lives beyond the Veil where all the other Draake or dragons live along with a vast array of faeries and other “mythical” creatures. However it is not unusual for those same beings to make trips through various portals to earth for a variety of reason, in Kirit’s case to find a mate. When he finally meets the slender ball of energy that is Cody, with one touch he realizes that this human will do quite well for he indeed is Kirit’s mate. Now all he has to do is convince Cody of the same!

Cody’s Dragon was the most fun I have had with a paranormal offering in a long time. Fast-paced and witty, with sharp, clever dialogue and a cast of dragons, faeries, and one very determined human, the novel flowed so easily given that it was the first of an intended series. SO often initial offering of a series tend to be bogged down in establishing a cast of characters that will be the fodder for upcoming novels. While author K.M Mahoney does just this in her story, I never felt overwhelmed by the sheer number of people she imagined up. Instead, by giving us a glimpse at Kirit’s clan, I felt that the author wisely and smoothly gave us just a bit of information on each dragon, and did so with such a skilled hand that I felt I knew a bit about each one.

Add to that the establishing of a new mythical world run by a faerie king and the intrigue of his court and you have all the makings of a really solid novel that left you poised and excited for the next of its kind. I simply adored Cody and Kirit. Such a clever foil for the other, the somewhat uninformed and formal dragon paired with the brash and sweet human, these two just lit up the page with their humorous and steamy encounters. As I read their story I was totally captured by the way these two interacted and the slow building love between them. Yes there was an instant attraction for both but there was no insta-love. Rather author K.M Mahoney opted to let the plot guide the love angle and unfolded her story bit by bit allowing for the two characters to slowly learn about the other and gradually fall in love. I was so impressed by this novel and just delighted by its intelligent and witty handling.

I really liked this story and the characters. Chaos especially needs his own book and I think the king could use a strong mate to cuddle up with as well. Hope this becomes a series.

Cody's dragon is a nice read. While it has interesting characters and a decent plot, the characters and plot have been left undeveloped. It may be one of those series that develop a bit more with each book - time will tell.

“Cody’s Dragon” is a typical romance, where the romance plot is the main plot rather than one of several equally central plots. Even so, I really enjoyed it, which is saying something because I usually find pure romances a bit trite.

If I hadn’t been introduced to Kirit first, I might have really hated him. But that first glimpse shows you how lonely he is. For the last two hundred years, he’s been looking for a mate. Having not found one in Faerie in all that time, he decides to go to the human side of the veil: Earth as we know it today. His struggle to find Cody was rather cute. Having said that, in the end, this story is more about Cody, his introduction to his mate, and Faerie.

There were a few times that quick POV switches irritated me and there are a couple of continuity issues among other things (they are mostly the reason I couldn’t give this book a 4.5), but overall, I found myself cheering Cody and Kirit on. The characterizations were really good, with reactions being realistic and the secondary characters intriguing me too. I would love to read Harper’s story, or Chaos’. And I definitely want to know more about the link between the Faerie King and the dragons.

The dragons are perfect (in my mind, anyway). They are bad tempered, growly, possessive, anti-social, and quick to bite. I rather enjoyed the snarky comments. It’s a great romp of a story and very easy to read. I didn’t even notice the pages turning, and at the end, I thought, “I want more!” This fantasy made me wish the next one was out already.

This story would be great for anyone looking for a fun, light romantic read. Especially dragon lovers. It’s in my “permanent” files on my ereader, and I’ve actually re-read it a time or two already. Strangely enough, after reading this story, I realised I have read a few of the author’s other books. “Lucky” and “Tristan” are Putnam County books, and are paranormals. They were also quite funny in a wry, sarcastic way.

It’s amazing when you come back to an author and realize how much you enjoyed his/her work but over time seemed to have wandered away from it. K.M Mahoney was just such a surprise for me. When I saw this latest title, Cody’s Dragon, I realized how long it had been since I had taken the time to enjoy this author’s work and I am very glad that I did not bypass this fun and immensely satisfying novel.

Cody’s Dragon was the most fun I have had with a paranormal offering in a long time. This is a nice read. The writing is good. I love the descriptions used by the writer. The characters are intriguing and vivid. I love the grumpiness and general standoff behavior of the dragons. The plot line gives us just enough to stay interested in the characters and their situations.

The bad of the read was the plot. Though it does give you that interest that is about it. The plot was shallow and just too mysterious. I know this is the first in a series but I couldn’t understand Seamus or the court. Even the background for the dragons wasn’t very well done. We are given bits and pieces that make no sense. The one big bad guy is WAY too easily taken care of. I think it could have been a better read if there was some sense of where the mystery plot was going and if the world was built a little more.

Still I did have fun reading this one. It is a definite feel good book and makes me smile to think of Cody and his dragon. I will read the next to see where this one will go.

The first book in A Dragon’s Treasure series is a fascinating m/m story of dragons, fairies and other fae that entices the reader to join them in their world. Dragon antics and manipulative Kings lead the couple into some intense, dangerous and sometimes humorous situations that add lots of spice to the story. Snarky and funny dialogue also elicit quite a few chuckles and with lots of fun and charming characters this story becomes a very entertaining read that I couldn’t put down. The author has added her own spin to the paranormal world and Faerie Realm that certainly has lots of potential for future books. I am really glad that Nyx’s book is next because I can’t wait to read about his mate.

Interesting worldbuilding, but the main character spends what feels like a good chunk of the story lonely and bored out of his mind, and that should tell you all you need to know about this book. There is no progressing plot of any kind, so the finale is just a couple more things that happen and then the story ends.
