I absolutely loved this book! The FMC Olivia is such a strong woman for everything she has been through and conquered and the MMC Luke is definitely yummy! Caty Lee definitely knows how to put your emotions through the works and write an amazing story! I cannot wait for the second book because that ending left me shook!!!!!

WOW! What a way to end 2024 on the edge of my damn seat. Just when I thought I had this book figured out, turns out there were so many twists and turns I didn’t see coming. I found myself cheering the FMC on as she finally finds herself and then BOOM major plot twist and insane cliff hanger. 🤯

I genuinely don't understand how this book has so many glowing reviews. The spicy scenes were very repetitive and unimaginative. I caught myself picking apart parts of the story that didn't make sense in practical ways. I had to double check the author's information because several scenes felt like they were written by a man.

I hated how the main characters completely ignored obvious red flags that put the FMC in mortal danger. Don't even get me started on the "ending". I'm not here to spoil it for you, but it is a cliffhanger. I don't even care enough to read the next book, but it is just as well, since it hasn't been released yet.

This book is extremely heavy and I understand it was written from the author's personal experiences, but it felt disjointed. Check the trigger warnings for sure.

I found Caty when Professor Obsessed came out and from then I was hooked with her writing! But nothing could prepare me for Olivia’s story. I just wanted to reach in this book and give her all of me.

Here we follow Olivia, 27, she met her ‘now boyfriend’ Matt in college and have been together for the past 5 years! This relationship is full of DV-mentally, emotionally-physically. He has isolated her, moved her cross states and has made sure to keep her 1 friend (that followed her in the move) at arms length. Matt is doing everything possible to break Olivia and she is suffering unimaginable pain! Matt is an attorney for the sleazy and Olivia is ‘trapped’

Insert Luke Ryder, 35, our man in uniform! He is a Sergant and one night the PD got a call by a neighbor of Olivia and Matt’s about the noise. Luke noticed the destroyed room, heavy makeup, bruising on the arms and in that moment he snapped. He instantly became protective (more than a sergeant should).

This story does have a time lapse of 1 year. And we see growth in Olivia and not just growth but a courage I couldn’t even imagine having. We see Luke being captivated by her strength and teaching her how a relationship is suppose to be.

Let’s talk about that cliffhanger! Caty why oh why do you do this to us??

Did you spy her Easter egg??

Favorite quotes

I needed her like the stars needed the moon.

“It takes every ounce of power in me to resist you.” She dismantled me completely. “You’re mine. To hold, to fuck, to fill you until your pussy is at capacity.”

“You make me feel loved with every touch in a way no one else can.”

I am sick to my stomach with the way this book ended!! But holy shit, it was good. First, I have to mention how much I loved the little easter egg of one of my favorite men that Caty has written. Although Luke AND Aidan might be making their way to my number one. This book was heavy from the very beginning, so definitely check out the content warnings before reading. I love Olivia!! Caty has such a way of making her female characters relatable to the point you're always empathizing with them. I wanted to dismember Matt! He is the absolute worst. While it hurt seeing Olivia go back to Matt, I couldn't help but understand why she did. There were parts (very little) where Matt seemed sweet, making you want to believe that he could be better, and aside from the fear Olivia had, those were the moments I also understood why she stayed. Luke is such a man!! He does not play about Olivia at all! He was very protective, loving, and patient, which is definitely what Olivia needed. The spice in this book was incredible and paired so well with the heavy topics in this book. Like I was melting... Luke and his words babyyyy. Also, Vera and Aidan have to be some of the most lovable side characters. Definitely some of my favs. This book is an emotional rollercoaster but so worth the read. I can't wait for more

Ya'll, this book absolutely held my heart and ripped it the fudge out. Olivia is in an abusive relationship ( when I say abusive, I mean abusive). Matt literally beat the holy Hannah out of Olivia. Luke gets called to the scene and automatically falls for her. She tries to leave but goes back only for it to be worse. Yall incase Pacing. The ending is cliffy, and I swear I am gonna lose my, you know what. It's just amazing writing, and I can wait for Matt to get his literally.

Well, that ending, I just have to say WOW. This book was so good I had troubles putting it down.. the characters are so well done. I loved Luke (the grumpy serious one) and the friendship he has with Aiden, (the never serious fun one) the really work well together My girl Olivia she may not realize she is tough as nails. Going through what she has and still finding hope is AMAZING. Her BFF Vera is the kind of best friend people want/need. Matt is a piece of crap and I hope he truly gets his. This bad guy better not get to see his happy ending, but I guess we will see.

Read the triggers, please, if you have them because there is alot

First, let me start with a heavy TRIGGER WARNING ⚠️ this book contains detailed descriptions of domestic abuse (mental, verbal, and physical)

Caty Lee. I didn't think you could top Professor Unhinged for me, but you absolutely blew me out of the water with this one.
Having been in a situation similar to Olivia made me relate to her so much more intenly. I knew what those moments she was going through were like.
Heartbreakingly beautiful, dangerously addictive. This book held me captive because I absolutely could not put it down. When I tried, Olivia and Luke were all I could think about. I needed to know more.
The spice in the one was immaculate. Balanced through the whole book, and always enchances a scene and isn't just thrown in somewhere. Everything is weave together with purpose.
The cliffhanger at the end has me salivating for part 2, and I will absolutely be back to review that one as well.

I absolutely loved this book!
Olivia the FMC is the most relatable character! You get to see her grow out of the shell of a woman her ex boyfriend made her into a happy, stronger person. Her life with Matt was written so realistic to how woman in relationships with narcissists and controlling men would be. It’s not as easy as just leaving.
Sergeant Luke Ryder, responded to a call that would change his life. He instantly felt attracted to and protective of Olivia. He said act now and ask questions later as long as she is safe. Caty Lee wrote an amazing MMC that set my standards so high!
Luke is mouthwatering and says the sweetest and spiciest things! That man’s mouth 🥵🥵🥵 has you blushing and giggling.

This story has the most hilarious side characters and I absolutely loved them!

The plot twist will have your jaw dropping! This story has literally become my favorite!

Romance: ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
Action: 👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻

This story does have some heavy elements! Make sure to check the CWs before diving in!

Olivia has spent the past 5 years in a very controlling abusive relationship. When a late-night call from a concerned neighbor brings Sergeant Luke knocking, life is altered for both of them. Luke immediately feels the need to protect Olivia. Is he going to be able to protect her from the powerful man who believes she belongs to him? This book contains some very heavy topics including DV, please make sure you read the trigger warnings before diving into this story.

From the beginning of this book, I was infatuated. All of the characters have a depth to them that I wasn't quite expecting. With such a heavy topic, I was excited that the characters weren't muddled or given less attention. Olivia's emotions and reactions felt natural and flowed well with what was going on in every event. While it is hard to read about abuse in this sense, I can imagine how hard it is to write it and do it impeccably. May I mention the multiple POVs being spread through more than just the two main characters was amazing! The pacing of the story also made it feel like I was living it in real time. From the moment I started this book I didn't put it down (I fell asleep with it in my hands and woke up going right back to the story)
Now, I am all for a cliffhanger but that was a harsh one. I genuinely need a resolve and quick. There was a lot of foreshadowing to this moment that flowed well into the story, yet I didn't necessarily expect that ending. A mix of shock and sadness as this book came to an end. Will I be sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for book 2? Yes. I will be.

My Rating: ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
Spice Rating: 🌶️🌶️🌶️
My fave tropes from this book: He Falls First/Harder, Men in Uniform

Thank you to Caty for letting me ARC read this book. Your writing on such a sensitive topic is phenomenal and I can't wait for the continuation of this series.

Midnight Daffodil by Caty Lee is an emotional rollercoaster that grips you from the first page and doesn’t let go until long after the final sentence. This novel is, without a doubt, one of the most compelling reads Ive had this year.

Caty Lee weaves a story that masterfully balances fear, lust, sadness, and excitement, creating a narrative as delicate yet resilient as the daffodil itself. The emotional depth of the characters is astonishing, and their growth—particularly the evolution of the two main protagonists—is a testament to Caty’s ability to craft authentic and multidimensional figures. Their journey is as much about personal healing and discovery as it is about their connection, and witnessing their transformation is both heartwarming and heartbreaking.

The real standout, though, is the ending. Lee delivers a conclusion that is nothing short of breathtaking—an emotional gut punch that leaves you ready to cry. It’s the kind of ending that stays with you, haunting your thoughts and making you reconsider everything you just read.

Caty Lee proves herself to be a master of her craft in Midnight Daffodil. Her prose is evocative, her pacing flawless, and her storytelling unforgettable. If you’re looking for a book that will sweep you off your feet, leave your heart racing, and linger in your mind long after, this is the one. Highly recommended!

In "Midnight Daffodil," Caty Lee masterfully weaves a gripping romantic suspense that explores the delicate balance between healing from trauma and finding the courage to love again. Set against the moody backdrop of Seattle's urban landscape, this novel delivers both emotional depth and pulse-quickening suspense.

Where the novel particularly shines is in its exploration of trust and healing. The author doesn't shy away from the complexities of rebuilding one's life after trauma, showing how trust must be earned gradually and how love alone isn't enough to heal deep wounds. The relationship between Olivia and Luke develops at a realistic pace, making their emotional connection all the more convincing.
While the novel excels in many areas, some readers might find certain plot developments in the final act slightly predictable within the romantic suspense genre. However, Lee's strong character work and emotional authenticity more than compensate for any genre conventions.

"Midnight Daffodil" is more than just another romantic suspense novel – it's a compelling exploration of resilience, healing, and the transformative power of love. Caty Lee has created a story that will resonate with readers long after they've turned the last page, combining heart-pounding tension with genuine emotional depth.

🖤 This is book one of the Poisonous Petals series. This contains some triggering and hard topics, please be aware and check TW/CW before reading.

🖤 MISS GIRL!!! This was one of my most anticipated reads of this month, and omg let me tell you, it lived up to the hype! The moment I started I was hooked and couldn’t put it down! This book had me going through all the emotions, kinda felt like a roller coaster. One moment I was raging and the next I was swooning, then crying, then blushing and the spice, it was absolutely perfect.

🖤 Luke is PERFECTION to say the least, he’s kind, sweet, he’s sexy af, he has a dirty mouth, but most importantly he loves Olivia despite her past and I love him for that!! Olivia, my girl, I fucking love her! She’s so sweet and I relate to her to a certain extent and it made everything that much more intense and I felt every emotion. Ok, but special shoutout to the side characters! Aiden and Vera were fucking hilarious, and we all need a Vera in our lives (also a Luke)! Ohh and we cant forget the sweet baby rev, that scene with the cats had me DYING

I finished this book several days ago and I was not able to right the review right away. I was so infuriated at this book, but also LOVED it. Caty is one of those outstanding authors that uses her words on a page to make you feel the emotions of the story. You go through the journey with them. You cheer them on, cry with them, smile for them, and hurt right along side them. But also, Caty as a person is amazing! She has become an auto buy for me. If she writes it, I WILL READ IT!

This book is EASILY in the TOP 5 for 2024 for me!

Please check your trigger warnings!! It does go over some dark subjects.

Olivia…oh sweet Olivia. I wanted to wrap my arms around her and tell her:
YOU ARE STRONG!
YOU ARE FIERCE!
YOU ARE WORTHY!
YOU CAN DO THIS!
YOU DESERVE LOVE!
So many people will be able to relate to Olivia and her story and it’s sad. But Olivia was written so beautifully and raw.

Luke….he is the man everyone woman craves. He worships the ground Olivia walks on and will do anything for her. His love for her is so strong. This character was written so well and I believe it reminds women who were in Olivia’s position, you can have your own Luke!

I fell in love with this book and I can’t wait for book two. It may have ripped my heart out completely, but the message is so strong and important.

I don't think Caty could write a book I wouldn't enjoy. I always love her story setting, character traits, and of course, you get a great dog in this story. I will always appreciate that Caty gives as much to her side characters as she does her mains and some of these totally feel like your best friend or little brother.

This story takes you to some crazy places. Do not pick this up without reading the triggers because they are heavy. This book drives really in depth from both inside and outside perspectives of domestic violence as well as the perpetrator vs the law side of these disputes. Olivia is stuck in a long time going abusive relationship, but as we know in real life, it takes something big to really get someone to realize the negativity they are in, and often they need significant support to get out. For Olivia, that is Luke.

These characters made me root for them each time, Olivia also made me want to slap her upside the head and if you want a villain... oh you just wait because he is here.

Take this ride well prepared, because Caty doesn't hold back, and we love her for that.

Have you ever known that the plot was leading up to something awful, but it still feels like the rug was pulled out from under you? This is the wild ride that readers can expect from Midnight Daffodil. Caty Lee does an amazing job of weaving the story of Olivia and Luke, meanwhile leaving all these breadcrumbs on possible ways that Matt will strike back. And when that foreboding moment comes to bear, it will leave the readers stunned. The relationship between Olivia and Luke is complex and riddles with emotions, Olivia is a survivor of domestic violence and Luke is the cop who has seen first hand only a small sliver of the pain Matt has inflicted on Olivia. This book does contain sensitive content and readers should only read this book after ensuring the well being of their mental health.
Midnight Daffodil does end a cliffhanger and will be continued in the next book in the Poisonous Petals series.

Luke & Olivia’s story was an emotional rollercoaster that left me needing more asap!

I was kicking my feet and giggling, I was crying, I was yelling in anger. The ride this book will take you on is crazy, but so, so good 💙

Luke’s inner dialogue constantly had me laughing, especially when it was about his partner 🤣 He has a soft side for Olivia though, and you can feel how much he cares for and loves her.

Olivia is strong beyond words for enduring her situation, and she finds a safe haven in Luke ❤️ Though she does have her struggles, she’s learning how to accept Luke’s love and the words he tells her. It was especially heartwarming when he told her she’s beautiful and she thought “I felt it.” 🥹💙

nothing could have prepared me for the ending at all. I was following the breadcrumbs, but oh my god it flew off in a wild direction!! book 2 cannot come out soon enough 😍

this was my first book by Caty and I will definitely be checking out her other series ❤️😄💙

Caty Lee’s writing always grabs my attention but this book took me on a rollercoaster ride of emotions, held me on the edge of my seat and THEN the plot twists came. I WAS NOT PREPARED 😩😩😩.

I am also going to need the next book asap, tomorrow is good 😘

Luke Ryder can do no wrong, he is perfection and I will hear no other options. Olivia is sweet, funny, stubborn. I wanted to wrap her up and take her somewhere safe. Matt is my least favourite book character, like maybe top 5 of all time. He can get bent to say the very least.

Caty Lee writes the best friends/ side characters. Vera is full of life and spice. Her sassy personality had me wanting to high five her and say yes girl! I loved Aidan ( Luke’s partner) his sense of humour was very entertaining. He gave me many giggles.

Make sure to read through the tw list before reading as there is a fair amount of heavy content.

This is a pretty heavy story with on-page stuff, so keep that in mind when going into it (and read the warnings!).

Olivia, the FMC, is a survivor, and one hell of a fighter. One night, she meets Luke, the MMC, an officer who responded to the DV call.

Luke is so sweet, and determined to keep Olivia safe, it was a case of inst-love. He warms my heart with all the fuzzies. Luke's friendship with Aidan is one of my favorites, I adore Aidan. Vera was lovely, too, she's an amazing friend to Olivia. I've never hated a character as much as I do Matt, I hope he walks on Legos for the rest of his life.

I went through all of the emotions reading. Everything felt so real, it was hard to not get caught up in what was happening with the characters, and that's something Caty does amazingly well.

I threw my kindle at the cliffhanger... I can't wait for book two.

So much in common with our FMC Olivia, well maybe not so much with the spicy parts, but the complete a$$hat of an “ex” part was spot on. Ms. Olivia definitely shows us how to grow and we are here for it all. The much stronger version of her is better for sure and to have met such an attractive man in the process is even better. Luke and Olivia were absolutely perfect, however; Matt can easily be left in a cage with a t-rex and I wouldn't shed a tear. This book is intense and normally I would not care who reads the trigs but I will say the subject matter is heavy so maybe you might want to. Now can we talk about that cliffhanger? Come on, what the hell. So yes, I need more and will be checking often for the next book to make its way to me so I can calm down.

Prologue had me like: 👀😱😈
Chapter 1 had me like: Olivia, girllll no. Stop it right now young lady.
Fast forward some and I was like: Olivia! Ughhh *bangs head against wall* WHYYYYYY?! Lukeeee 💔💔😭😭
Vera is the real McCoy and Aidan, you my guy, are hilarious!

Now let’s get to Matt….Listen up buckwheat. You. Me. Walmart parking lot 6pm. Prepare to catch these hands you little 💩!

Please read your trigger warnings guys. This one was rough and unfortunately relatable to a lot of people out there, but the growth and development of the characters so far is giving.🤌🏻 I went through all of the emotions to a point I was screaming at this book. Do I need to seek therapy? Yes, but that’s besides the point. This was an amazing read! 10/10 would recommend

The ending was one of THE BEST endings that I’ve EVER READ! It also threw me off because of what happened, I need book 2 ASAP! It’s definitely a hard read because of the DV that happens in the book. I think this book is perfect for anyone who threw this situation and wants to read about how the story goes. Definitely read the TWs!
Olivia is a strong woman with everything she went through with Matt.
Luke is a cop who falls head over heels for Olivia and will do anything for her and protect her ❤️
The spice was good! The things I typically read though have a lot of spice and kinky stuff 🖤 but this one is kind of a slow burn to me. But it’s still good for those who like romance slow pace spice ❤️

OMG CATY LEE!!! You have done it again girl!!! This may be my new favorite book by you. I honestly don’t even know what to say but THE CLIFFHANGER?!??!! OMG! Luke, my precious Luke, he is absolutely gone for Olivia. He literally protected her before he even knew who she was! One look and he just knew that she was someone special. And my poor Olivia, I absolutely can’t even be mad at her because of the situation, those are hard to remove yourself from. I was so proud of her when she finally did! What a best friend she has to really be there for her and not overstep! And I don’t even want to talk about Matt, scum of the earth. Anywho this book will absolutely take you through every emotion! Absolutely loved!!!

Holy Moses! This is an absorbing read, I could feel the words in this book. My first Caty Lee read and BANG I am blown away. The realism in the writing is down right chilling.

This book is filled with dark and serious themes please check for author notes and warnings. Everyone’s mental health matters.

With all forms of spousal abuse displayed in Olivia’s story it is a gripping tell all of the confines of abuse. Alas there is light in the darkness when we are introduced to officer Luke. Yes I said officer, nothing compares to man in a uniform.

Have no fear it isn’t all doom and gloom, the main characters also get some relief with strong and entertaining side characters as well.

Certainly a top read of 2024 for me! Check it out

In *Midnight Daffodil*, I was completely consumed by Olivia's story—a raw and haunting journey of a woman enduring unimaginable pain. Olivia has been trapped in an abusive relationship for years, and it has shattered every piece of who she once was. Matt’s abuse is relentless—mental, emotional, and physical—keeping her isolated and monitored, his violence a constant force bending her to his will. My heart broke as I watched Olivia’s spirit get chipped away, but I loved her quiet resilience and the way she clung to a fragile but persistent hope for freedom.

Then there’s Sergeant Luke Ryder. When he responds to a domestic violence call that leads him to Olivia, he’s struck immediately by her. I could feel his unexplainable pull to protect her, the way she became the woman he couldn’t forget. Her suffering and strength leave a deep mark on him, and it’s as if her silent call for help becomes his mission to answer. Luke is haunted by her pain and captivated by her quiet courage, and I found myself desperate for him to be the one to rescue her.

This story hit hard—it’s heavy, filled with moments of anguish that made me ache for Olivia, and glimmers of hope that remind me of the strength it takes to even imagine a way out. *Midnight Daffodil* doesn’t shy away from showing the raw reality of abuse, and while it’s painful to read, it felt so important. The cliffhanger at the end was absolutely stunning, and I’m still reeling from it. Just a note to anyone picking this up: make sure to check the trigger warnings, as there is on-page domestic violence (not from the MMC).

This story will tear your heart out by how good it is and so well written. It follows Olivia in an extremely abusive relationship with her husband. Luke is a police officer who she meets when he is called to investigate a potential issue at her apartment. The story is a heavy emotional story but it builds the characters in such a way that they feel real and the chemistry between Luke and Olivia is crazy hot. The combination of the darkness of the abusive relationship and the sweetness of Olivia and Luke’s evolving love story gives the book great balance but hang on to something because this is a roller coaster and you’re going to love the ride! But you’re going to need more - trust me!

Wow! I know this book was written with some of the personal experiences of the author, Caty Lee which is why at times I just had to stop and breathe. It is beautifully written in the best way stories like this can be. I do hope writing this book has helped to heal some of the trauma in some way.

This book is dark at times but also romantic & spicy at other times. The latter involves the good guy, Luke not the bad one, Matt. There were times of lighter moods when I even found myself giggling out loud.

The ending though! It has me on the edge of my seat waiting for the author to release the next book. I won't give any spoilers but it's Olivia's story is not over yet.
