Will These Book Lovers Fall in Love or Will Their Story End in Tragedy?
Gemini Collins enjoys her Friday bar-reading sessions after her stressful day at Helping Human Helpers inc. She even get’s to the bar early just to avoid the crowds. She has sworn off men and enjoys her book boyfriends.
Calvin Grant is a bookworm that works his dream job, owning his neighborhood library. He prefers to read dialogue, than engage in real life conversations. After being persuaded to a solo night out, he sees someone that knocks him off his axis.
So this is my first read from this author and I’ll be reading another book soon from her. All because a friend and i are swapping her books to annotate them. With that being said that might be the last one.
What i enjoyed was the characters careers and how they both love what they do. The concept of meeting in a bar while being your read is very cute. I would love for that to happen to me one day. Calvin was very sweet and definitely making his spot know. Now a piece of me would rather get a book on his family and family business. They added a some kick to the book.
Gemini and Calvin definitely had the adult entertainment down packed. Giving very much let me cool down.
MAY BE A SPOILER FOR SOME! What gets me is the development of Gemini. I don’t know if i missed something but how we go from 3 years swearing off men due to an ex. To meeting a guy at the bar having a little conversation and then offering to suck his d*ck in the back of the car. Make it make sense. Yes people are grown and do what they want with their bodies. But don’t say “what if he’s just like the rest and only wants p*ssy?” Ma’am excuse me. Did you not offer to THROW NECK after a couple of sentences into meeting a guy?! I would have rather a talk about her healing and how she’s moving forward. And meet this guy then blossom from there. That’s my take.
Quotes: “The people that are quickest to judge, are the ones that can’t handle the mirror I always appreciate honesty over lying.”
“If you face was the last one i ever saw, i would never complain in heaven because i saw an angel.”
I was so excited to get ARC of this book since I was immediately fascinated by the idea of a romance that started because she was reading at a bar in Atlanta, because that is how I live a lot of my life. So I put on the playlist the author put together, lit a candle, and enjoyed this in a night; it was definitely short and sweet, fun; and had some spice. The characters were also all strongly developed, and the book boyfriend had serious potential (a hot librarian bringing her lunch to work, say less). But, some of his dialogue felt stunted and not awkward because he was shy and awkward but because it felt like some of the dialogue was trying too hard. It also drove me up a wall that every time “you’re” should’ve been used it was just “your”. That being said, I did enjoy it and think the author could work out these kinks in future novels.
The overall idea of this book was really cute . Two book lovers meeting at a bar reading and fall for each other. Kirahvi did a good job developing the characters. I felt invested in each. However the spicy moments was a bit much for me. It went on for paaagges sometime. It was a cute book and I would give another one of her books a try.
A black girl in ATL meets a dreamy man while reading at a bar?!?! UH YES PLEASE! I was so excited to read this book just off the premise alone. As solo bar and book reader myself at times I felt seen lol. While the book was short (I do wish it was longer so we got more details on why the characters acted the way they acted) it was a great read. Easy to follow, lovable characters and spice! The disagreements seemed to get glossed over too quickly for me and the third act break up was unnecessary for me but I understand for the sake of time, things had to move quickly. Calvin was literally amazing lol and Gemini was so relatable. I felt like I was reading a story that could’ve been about me or a friend! I am entertained!!!!!!
My only drawback was [SPOILER AHEAD] ……..
I wanted to know more of why Gemini had nightmares, what was it coming from? What happened in her past? Why was she so untrusting? Why did Calvin have panic attacks? Calvin and Greg…why was it on standstill so long and then boom action? I just wanted more diving into those elements that affected the characters so much and drive their decisions. But I also understand this book was short so for the length we got enough.
I LOVED this book sooo much! It’s like my fantasy coming true. I’m living in Atlanta, single, with a cat, a DIE HARD love for books & into bi sexual men! Kirahvi, did you write this book specifically for me?! I enjoyed the characters, the SMUT and the love story. It was very relatable for us brown girls & I enjoyed every page! You did an absolutely amazing job for your first novelette & I CANT WAIT to read more. 5 stars girl! You deserve it! Thank you for asking me to arc read 💕📚
This book hits on all cylinders. I felt all the emotions! The plot and characters are relatable and lovable. This was very well written and I thoroughly enjoyed. I look forward to reading more by her.
3rd person POV the plot and story was very good. It was cute how Calvin and Gemini were both nervous and took a chance and finding happiness after heartbreak. I would love a part 2 to dive into Calvin and Gemini childhood and past, definitely a lot there to unpack.
The Book at the Bar: Gemini & Calvin’s Sweet Romance with Spicy Scenes | Bookworm Love Story
Meeting at a bar and connecting over books is exciting and sweet. My nerdy heart fluttered and Gemini and Calvin’s romantic encounter made me bite my lip and blush. These legs are swinging with giddiness at this story that began with something as simple as a book at a bar.
