Another feat in storytelling was achieved by Budjette Tan and KaJO Baldisimo in this second omnibus covering Volumes 4 to 6 in the Trese series.

My favorites are Fight of the Year, The Executioner's Return and Slaughter at Brgy. Pacifica. The art style also became more detailed as the story progressed which I liked.

There's a cliffhanger on the last story that I'm looking forward to being featured in future Trese volumes.

The team effort by the gang was so epic to read as well. Characters such as the Madame and Carlos Trese are great additions to the storyline as the stakes were raised higher.

"You fight. You fall. You stand up and keep on fighting. Why? You do it for your family, for your friends, if you have any. Go defend your city, Alex. Leave me to defend mine, in my own way."

Amazing that these authors still control their creations after all these years and getting the second volume of their Trese hardcover.

Book of Midnight collects volumes 4 to 6 in this oversized hardcover format. There's a marked shift in the stories when they turn from police procedurals to post-Avengers 2012 movie superhero adventure. Trese and company get their own super team.

This would also be the last volume that would contain stories when both authors lived in the same island. Life has caught up to both their professional and personal lives. They don't live in the same country anymore. They still collaborate, but the stories changed during the intermission between books. This results in several unresolved plot holes from this volume that remain unaddressed like the unauthorized tikbalang stampede, the Madame's machinations, and Trese's loosening grip in her city.

There's so much potential in these story threads that have percolated long enough that demand a pay-off in a future story.

Collecting books 4 to 6 really worked well, with this collection, you can read all the stories in one sitting and ride that post-reading afterglow like Maverick Rider handles his motorcycle.

The most unrealistic thing about Trese is not even the supernatural creatures. It's how she can get to these crime scenes in like ten minutes with all the Manila traffic.

Far better in terms of pacing and narrative than the first major arc. The Madame is way more of a compelling and relevant antagonist to go up against Trese than Talagbusao (which might be because of the clear allusion she's making to our own political sphere, cough cough), and I do like the expansion of the side characters into being more involved, more specifically Maliksi, na sobrang nakakabwiset sa mga fuckboy-isms niya. Best boy!
