I see that you've returned to Sunhampton, the cozy town where the beers are always cold and the pies are delicious. But you aren't here for an ale and a snack, are you? You're here for some artificery – and you're just in time. Lewis, one of the town's few artificers, was recently working on a routine job at Sunhampton School when he stumbled upon old enchantments in the basement. Enchantments that confound even an adept-ranked artificer like him, and will need some creative thought and clever use of skills to break. But that isn’t all. It is commonly said that an artificer's work is never done, and Lewis finds himself with more enchantment and disenchantment riddles than he can keep up with. The question is, with the next ranking in his artificery class within reach, how quickly can he solve them?
Join Lewis in the sleepy, sunlit town where he spends his days crafting and his evenings with his friends. Allow yourself to escape, just for a while, to a town where you’re always welcome.
Hey! Tom Watts here. If you're reading this then you've either read one of my books or you’re thinking about doing it, and I want to say thanks either way.
I write low-stakes fantasy books that offer people a little of that important thing we call escapism, and I might have what you’re looking for.
Do you want to become a master craftsperson and live in a small, sunny village full of taverns and cafes? Then I have the story for you! Try my book, ‘Small-Town Crafter: the Artificer’s Apprentice.’
Or maybe you want to build a whole town from scratch right on top of untouched land, together with a couple of good friends. If that sounds good, then I’ve got something you’ll enjoy! Check out, ‘Welcome to Blade’s Rest.’
So, those are a couple of my books. As for me, well, I live in a little village with my wife and three dogs. When I’m not writing then I’m reading, and when I’m not doing that I’ve usually got a small schnauzer trying to get my attention.

After reading a plethora of action-driven stories, it just really nice to sink into a slice-of-life adventure, it's definitely not slow paced though. And Lewis finds himself swamped by both artisifer, and crafting jobs. More jobs he can count. He ends up lightening his workload by hiring a new person to man the front counter of the store. Lewis is finally reaching the top of the adapt tier... and is currently looking at the journeyman tier. So close he can almost taste it. He just has'ta challenge himself a couple more times to push him over the edge. Find out how by reading this fine addition to the series...
Here's a couple of quotes that amused me:
"However, I knew that my viewpoint was about as naïve as allowing a vampire to check your pulse."
"...all it took was a trip to Percy Tattersall’s bookstore, where he had a tome called, ‘Caring for Cats: An Exercise in Self-Punishment."
A nice book about friends spending time together and living their lives in a cozy, peaceful world. Lewis continues his growth, both as a crafter and a man. He and his friends go through the year taking care of each other and sharing the most important thing people own, their time.
This was fun to read. No real conflict or drama, just a glimpse at a sweet, pleasant place to live.
I have to admit, somehow I had skipped book five and there was oddness because of that, but I figured it out. And now I can look forward to both book five AND book seven!
I have enjoyed all 6 books of the series so far. It's like reading an Andre Norton book, great characters, smooth reading from book to book. Usually series tend to reminisce the first chapter back to the previous book. These books carry on the storyline of the previous book without interruption, which I enjoyed. I can't wait for book 7 to be published to see what happens next.
This book teaches children to tolerate abuse and avoid standing up for themselves. Also to be pressured into commitments that do not benefit them just to avoid unpleasantness. It's just non-stop abuse, sarcasm, derision, and belittlement from every corner. Not just from one person, but from
I really enjoyed reading this book. It was fun and engaging. I hated putting it down. The story and characters were incredibly interesting and highly entertaining. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next. This book and series are definitely worth checking out.
It seems like the series is delving more and more into just Lewis' thoughts and journey. While i like the low stakes read, i miss the more in depth interactions with other characters that Lewis has befriended.
Excellent addition to the series. Lewis definitely coming to his own as a crafter. I like the mystery unraveling stories in the book (the water wheel, the hidden artificery in the school). Very enjoyable. Tom Watts is improving with every book.
I love this series SO much. After a busy, stressful day , I can always count on Lewis and his cohort of friends and colleagues to help me chill and calm down from my day.
