Summer 1874
Millchester, North Queensland, Australia

Phoebe Toulouse ran away from her family…from her fiancé…from her life.

Upon arriving in the dusty outback town of Millchester, Queensland, Australia, Phoebe is certain she is finally safe from the bastard who wants to rob her of everything she has…including her life. Being swept up in the strong arms of a stranger, she finds herself tempted with pleasures she couldn’t refuse, and must face the uncertainty surrounding what was to become of her.

This wasn’t a job Raymond MacAllester wanted to do, but he had no choice. If he didn’t take Phoebe back east to Inkerman, he’d be risking his sister’s life. Given that she was Gordon Marriot’s half-sister, he doubted it would be easy to find her, but he would not allow himself to feel guilt for any member of that heartless, corrupt family.
When he meets Phoebe running for her life in the streets of Millchester, he couldn’t believe this beauty was any family of Gordon’s. When he finally took her into custody, he assumed she’d reluctantly agree to go back home. Never could he imagine that she would fight him as if her life depended on it.

When Phoebe learns the true reason for Raymond coming after her, and his relationship with her brother, she is heartbroken and betrayed. Returning to Inkerman with Gordon, she resumes her place in his corrupt company.
Desperate to find her and make her believe she was more than a business transaction, Raymond follows her to Inkerman and reluctantly reinstates himself into a life he hoped never to see again.

Reunited with Phoebe, and desperate to save her from Gordon’s overbearingness, Raymond risks everything to try and get her to safety. Will she let him play at being her knight in shining armour though, or has he left it too late?

Lovers Ransom is an enjoyable historical Australian romantic suspense book by Faye Hall. Phoebe Toulouse runs away to the isolated North Queensland town of Milchester after her brother arranges a marriage to someone she does not love. However, her brother wants her back and arranges for Raymond MacAllester to bring her back. However, when Raymond MacAllester found Phoebe, the spark followed. The readers of Lovers Ransom will continue to follow Phoebe Toulouse and Raymond MacAllester to discover what happens.

Faye Hall is one of my favorite authors. I never have any problems engaging with her stories and characters. Lovers Ransom kept up the tradition with her books. I engaged with Lovers Ransom from the first page and was sad when the book ended. I love Faye Hall's portrayal of her characters and the way they interact with each other throughout this book. Lovers Ransom was well-written and researched by Faye Hall. I like Faye Hall's description of the settings of Lovers Ransom, which allowed me to imagine being part of the book's plot.

Lovers Ransom's readers will learn about life in rural Queensland during the 18th Century. Also, Lovers Ransom's readers will understand some of the issues for women in Australia.

I recommend this book.

A short pleasant read set in Queensland Australia. The story was mildly interesting but didn’t have a lot of dialog … way too much internal thoughts and repetitive. I wish there had been much more detailed and descriptive words about the location. Yes, a gum tree was mentioned here and there and the Outback but I was longing to read more. Dialog was for me bland .., wish it had been more vivid. Overall, a nice book that I wish had been more memorable.
