Butter You Up

Rate this book
Cows are better than people – a fact I've sworn by until the irresistibly upbeat Molly comes barreling into my life, running my farm stand and bringing the summer heat with her.

She's also working for Fork Lick’s most debt-ridden my family's farm. I try to stay out of that manure pile. Except the crush I have on her makes me think about doing things like smiling all day and patching up my relationship with my brother.

And then I learn she has a thing for me in flannel and we’re on fire between the sheets. Just when I think Molly might be having feelings for me too, old pain comes bleating back in–this was all a set up and I’ve been played.

Butter You Up continues the Farm 2 Forking crop of laugh out loud romantic comedies set on Bedd Fellows Farm.

Get ready to grab life by the teats with an a-derp-able farm dog and baby goats galore with this hilarious and heartwarming romance by Liz Alden.

About Liz

I spent ten years traveling the world on a sailboat with my husband. He is not a secret rockstar, nor a grumpy farmer, nor a coworker I accidentally saw naked. I only see him naked intentionally.

Many of my books are based on my travels all over the world – from the Caribbean to Polynesia to Europe. I know exactly how big the world is—having sailed around it—and exactly how small it is, having bumped in to friends worldwide. I’ve been a dishwasher, an engineer, a CEO, and occasionally I get paid to write or sail.

Now I’m in my small town era, both in fiction and real life. I live in Western Massachusetts with a big backyard that would be perfect for a goat if only SOMEONE would let me have one. I like my men to be sweethearts, the bedroom door wide open (with a splash of something new!) and the women to be independent and mature.

This book is hysterical, if I may say so myself. Alex is a Letterkenny-inspired farmer with an a-derp-able dog and Molly is a sunshine #vanlifer. They bond over baby goats and solar panels and cow shit. I can't wait to share with you!

PS. The rest of the series is amazing!

When this series was announced, I was excited to start four different stories by four different authors. “Butter You Up” is a flirty, sweet and romantic opposites attract small town romance that was fun to read.

Molly has been out traveling the states in her live-in van whom she has named Vaniel. But when Vaniel needs some fixing up, she ends up in Fork Lick. In exchange for a place to park her van, she’s going to work at the store when the dairy farm sells its products. And the head of the farm is grumpy farmer Alex Bedd. He’s been running a successful dairy for years but has always had a wall that he put out in front of his family. But with Molly there and how she grows close to his grandma, the attraction they have for each other starts to help bring that grumpy wall down.

This was such a fun story and I definitely enjoyed it. I loved Molly from the beginning and thought she was so relatable on many levels. Her need for adventure and she fit so seamlessly into working on the dairy farm and with the Budd Family. Alex is a classic grump who had a big wall around himself but needed the sunshine that Molly has to help break it down. His past with his family was tough and left him thinking he wasn’t good enough. I loved the instant connection that Molly and Alex had. I could feel it as I read their story and was turning the pages as they worked through them and finally gave into what they were feeling for each other. Molly was the sunshine he needed and was a big part in helping become close with his family again. Molly and Alex were great together and a perfect match. I was charmed by these two and I’m excited for the next book in the series.

Farm 2 Forking book 2 of 5

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨(0-5)
Steam: 🔥🔥🔥 (0-5) beautifully descriptive, a couple of scenes

What I’m Starry-Eyed Over:
🤩 This series/collaboration is fabulous!
🤩 I’ve been wanting to read Liz Alden for so long, and I’m definitely bumping my Liz Alden TBR books way up. She brings all the feels and fun!
🤩 The whole idea of Vaniel—Molly’s ten-year-old Ram van—and how she’s mooch-docking on the Bedfellows Farm while she works weekends on the farm.
🤩 Workplace romance—Molly works for Alex (a Bedd brother who doesn’t work and live on the family farm) at Udderly Creamy during the week.
🤩 Opposites attract and amazing characterization—Molly is 100% an outgoing extrovert and Alex is 100% a quiet introvert.
🤩 I just love their instant, sweet, natural attraction. The secret pining is adorable.
🤩 Super-hot and beautiful kissing scenes (later more).
🤩 When Alex takes care of Molly and her eczema flair up.
🤩 “Alex Bedd. Who knew you had so much to say?” Love it when the quiet guy gets chatty!
🤩 Baby animal lovers, pet lovers, farm lovers—you’ll be smitten.

What I’m Wishing/Dizzy About:
💫 I really need Anna to feed me.
💫 I would have liked a couple more steamy scenes to solidify their connections even after the conflict—the hotel and back porch would have been pretty perfect!! I’m such a beggar.

The party in my ears that began with Since You’ve Bean Gone continued fast and furious with Butter You Up!! Erin Mallon is an absolute delight, and her range and versatility always makes me happy! Alastair Haynesbridge continued bring his best and worked really well alongside Erin!

I absolutely love the theme in this book! There’s something so kismet about a storyline that involves a character ending up stuck in a town and meets their HEA! It’s very adorbs for me and Liz Alden did this story justice! She kept me smiling and sometimes even giggling! It wasn’t all fun and games, of course, because the Bedd Fellows Farm still needs a lot of work and so do its owners!

Before I began listening to the Ominibus of this series, I had previously read books 3 and 4 of the series but not the others. I absolutely loved both stories and I learned something ⇒⇒ technically, you can read each one of these stories in any kind of order you please, but I’m here to let you know you’ll be missing a huge part of the experience if you do so. Each story grows not just the couples the individual books are about, but the Bedd family and their farm as well. It’s an experience no one should miss!

This was such a fun read, it’s sweet, complex and laugh out loud funny. Molly is such a free spirit who gives so much of herself to everyone. Alex is grumpy, dealing with his own business and family drama but the two have a dynamic relationship. Throw in some farm animals and spice and you’ve got Butter You Up.

I LOVED this book. I am clearly in my small town romance era. This is the second book in the Farm to Forking Series and it focuses on Alex, the second oldest Bedd brother. Molly works on Bedd Fellows Farm as a temporary worker, but also ends up working for Alex on a neighboring farm as well. Molly and Alex were simply perfect for each other and they couldn't keep their distance. A true opposites attract, friends with benefits turned lovers romance. Contemporary romance lovers, make sure you snag this book!

I really enjoyed not only the romantic relationship developed between the two, but I also really appreciated how the author focused on the relationship between Alex and his family as well. Healing that family relationship seems to be a theme throughout this series and I am here for it!

Thanks to Liz Alden and Home Cooked Books for the chance to read the book early!

Cows, Goats and Berries
YES! The second book is a very worthy follow up to the first in this series. It is fun, makes you laugh, gives you a heartwarming feeling and I just loved sharing all their lives for a while. The very extrovert Molly, knowing how to charm people and finding that real animals will charm her even more than digital ones. Grumpy Alex, the silent giant, slowly being mellowed by his new employee. What a wonderful story, I loved it from A to Z <3 Laughed out loud and shed a few tears.
Highly recommended.

I love a rom-com that delivers as much comedy as it does romance! Extra points if it's a grumpy/ sunshine trope!

This book is absolutely hilarious and I just knew I was going from the very start. Alex is such a grump, and although we usually don't root for the grumps so soon, I couldn't help myself. The things he'd say/think we're so ridiculous and comical. I had an instant love/hate for him. Molly, on the other hand, is such a breath of fresh air. She's sweet, optimistic, and lives life as it comes. She's living in Vaniel (her van haha #vanlife) while on a mission to visit all 48 continental states. When she reaches upstate New York, she figures it would be a good idea to barter with a farm owner - she'll run the farm shop on the weekends in exchange for parking Vaniel there. Now Molly finds herself working for handsome flannel-wearing Alex at Udderly Creamy, and Alex finds himself stuck with a cute, goofy girl who feeds virtual cows! Lol.
I absolutely loved this book! It had all the laughs, all the spice, and the best characters. (We all need a Kit in our life!) The characters were great, and it was wonderful watching the development not only between Alex and Molly, but between Alex and his family as well. I loved the spicy scenes- they were just enough without being too explicit. Most of all, I loved the names of the animals and towns! Simply the best!

Thank you Liz Alden, NetGalley, and Author Collective 20 for this ARC!

Such a fun rom com…loved this book and it’s a great addition to the series.

Fill with amazing characters, banter, small town shenanigans and love.

Alex is a grumpy, serious businessman and has some family baggage that he needs to work through.

Molly is such a free spirit and is a go with the flow kind of gal. She’s full of sunshine and positivity regardless of what may be going on with her life.

These two have an instant attraction are so fun, quirky and full of passion. I loved their story and how they snuck around…even though the family knew they were into each other!

The entire family is fantastic and add so many laughs and funny situations to the story.

Looking forward to the other books in the series!

Thank you Home Cooked Books for the complimentary copy

Erin Mallon and Alastair Haynesbridge delivered a phenomenal performance!! Erin has an amazing voice and she has become one of my favorite narrators. Bags gives the characters perfect emotion, personality and voice. Alastair is a new to me narrator and his voice is so delightful! He also gave perfect emotion, personality and voice to the characters…and the way he says Baaabara!!!

The entire series is amazing. A fantastic listen!!!

Molly has been traveling the 50 states in her live-in van, Vaniel . Vaniel is in need of getting some work done after all of the traveling - which is how Molly ends up in Fork Lick . In exchange for the work being done on Vaniel, Molly is going to work at the local store where she meets the very grumpy dairy farmer who sells his products there .

Alex Budd is an extremely grumpy, but also an extremely successful, dairy farmer but that’s exactly how he likes it . And with his grandmother running the local store in town, he sells his products there and doesn’t have to deal with any unwelcome third parties .. that is until Molly gets a temporary job at the store and turns his life upside down .

Liz has done it again with this super sweet and fun loving story . Alex and Molly are what us insta lovers like - they were instantly drawn to each other even though he was pure grumpiness and she was truly sunshine . And all of that sunshine is what helped Alex to realize that he is a good enough man for Molly, he has just had a very tough family hounding him his whole life making him think he isn’t good enough . I’m excited to see what Liz has in store for us next with this fun series !

This is book two in the Farm 2 Forking series and it can be read as a complete standalone .

This book was given to me for honest review by the author + Netgalley .

HEA: HEA
POV: dual 1st person POV
spice: a few open-door spicy scenes
TWs: Crohn’s (side character), death of a parent, eczema, PTSD (war injury)
Kinky Content: dirty talk, finger licking good, fingering, oral
standalone: book 2 of The Farm 2 Forking series
final thoughts: Butter You Up has the same easy writing style as other Liz Alden books with a plot that moves at a good pace and didn’t disappoint! I loved the side characters in this story and the silly aspects like the town names and rogue animals.
This is definitely lower spice than other Alden books, but still steamy!
Is there anything swoonier than a tall, grumpy loner who is a secret softie who loves his dog, his best friend, and his employees? Molly was sweet, bubbly, and exactly what Alex needed to come out of his shell and face his past.

5 star Review Butter You Up (Farm 2 Forking #2) Liz Alden

Audio/eBook

Liz Alden is a new author to me and I am shocked that not come across this author before.

Set in Fork Lick ( I just love the name) Molly and her van “Vaniel” need some help. In exchange Molly agrees to work at the farm shop which is where she meets the grumpy farmer Alex Bedd.

From the first chapter I was hooked on their story, add in Alex’s grandmother and the Bedd family and you are in for an entertaining read.

I fell hard and fast for Molly and Alex, they are such wonderful characters and so easy to relate too. She brings the light into Alex’s life that he didn’t know he needed.

This book ticked all the boxes for me from the first to the last chapter. I love romantic comedy stories and this was a good example of the genre.

The narration by Erin Mallon and Alastair Haynesbridge brought the characters to life for me. Their voices were easy to listen too and they brought all the passion, drama, romance and humour to their performances.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

• Grumpy/SUNSHINE
• Boss/Employee
• Lots of baby animals
• She's his opposite

Another wonderful addition to this series! These two were the polar opposite and enjoyed every second of their interactions! He was GRUMPY and she was outgoing and a ball of sunshine. There was something so tender about Alex only being soft for Molly! ❤️

Alex is a broody grumpy dairy farmer who has kept everyone at a distance. Pouring all this time into this work on the farm. And the last thing he expects is to fall for his temporary bubbly employee whose only farm knowledge is a video game she plays from time to time.

This is probably my favorite of the series so far! Well, see if it stays that way! 😍 I can't wait to dive into the next book!

AHH! These two are the perfect pair for this series! Alastair playing a grumpy broody farmer couldn't have been better! 🔥🥵 And Erin played Molly! And she did such an incredible job! I love when she plays the sunshiny FMCs!! I can't wait to listen to more of this series!!

Book two: Farm to Forking Series

My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ / 5 STARS

WOW! I unexpectedly received this ARC from Liz Alden, and I didn’t know I was in for such a delightful read! 💛

This novel definitely read as a novella, being I read the book in its entirety in just over an hour and a half. I flew through it, and that’s a great thing! Immediately through chapter two and I couldn’t put it down, I knew I’d finish in one sitting. (I read while my boyfriend smoked a tri tip = bonus!) I udderly enjoyed Molly and Alex’s story 🐄

This is my second novel read by Liz Alden, so I already knew her typical writing style, and I knew I’d enjoy the spice 🌶️ This short read had plenty of chemistry and world building without the annoying insta-love setting.

I loved this small town romance and the characters embedded. Several times I genuinely thought… “I want to visit Udderly Creamy”. Seriously. This farm setting seemed like such a beautiful, open, comforting and welcoming space to visit and exist. 🐮🌾

I would read an extended novel of these characters in a heartbeat! Thank you Liz Alden and NetGalley for this udderly wonderful ARC read! 🤠🐄💛🐮🧈🌾🌻🌽🚜

Is there anything better than baby animals?! When Molly comes to work at Udderly Creamy farm she never expects to fall for her obstinate boss Alex. But there is something lovable about a grump bottle feeding a baby lamb that will melt any woman’s heart. This book is an excellent addition to this fun, well written series.

Summary:

Molly is traveling to all 48 continental states for her dad. She bought Vaniel, a van converted into a camper. Her dad, a wound warrior, wanted Molly to have a summer just making memories and not worrying about him. She finds places to park Vaniel through Roots2Roma. Her next stop is Bedd Fellows Farm. She helps on weekends with strawberry picking and during the week she now works at Udderly Creamy, a milk farm. She meets Alex Bedd. He is closed off and never expected Molly to come into his life and turn it upside down.

My thoughts:

Butter You Up by @lizaldenwriter is book two in the Farm 2 Forking series. The series is a multi author series with each book following a different Bedd sibling.

I liked the dynamic between Molly and Alex. You can see Alex slowly left the hurt of his past surface which he eventually confronts. I liked Ethel (Bedd gran) has well.

There is Eczema representation with Molly. Her treatment is highlighted in a few spots. Alex also helps with her treatment one day.

I wish there was a little more banter between Molly and Alex. It was mostly work related talk with a few swoon worthy scenes.

I hope Gran gets her own book.

Thank you @lizaldenwriter for the ARC

This was such a fun story! I love the boss/employee, grumpy/sunshine aspects. When Molly shows up in Fork Lick in her live-in van (Vaniel) she starts working for Alex in his farm store. They both try to fight their attraction for each other, which makes for the best slow burn. I loved Molly’s sweet and adventurous free spirit, and how she connected with the Bedd family. Alex and his dynamic and drama with his family was so interesting and tugged at my heartstrings. I also love the animals and their shenanigans, and that it takes place in Upstate NY. All of the places mentioned were familiar to me!

The audiobook is narrated by Erin Mallon and Alastair Haynesbridge. Their voices compliment each other so well, They both did amazing jobs portraying the characters and conveying the emotions of the story. I definitely recommend listening!

Fantastic Story & Listen🎧 A Captivating Delight!

Butter You Up
Farm 2 Forking Series, Book 2
By: Liz Alden
Narrated by: Alastair Haynesbridge, Erin Mallon

“Butter You Up” is the second book of the “Farm 2 Forking” series, a multi-author series set in the same world, the Bedd Fellows Farm in New York’s Catskills, and features a member of the Bedd family. Liz Alder’s contribution to the series is Alex Bedd and Molly Perkin’s story and their story picks up soon after the first book ended, which Ethan and Lia’s story. Alex has farming in his blood and is running a neighboring dairy farm, Udderly Creamery. Molly is on a cross-country trip, but she needs to make a pit stop because she needs work done to her van, and she found a place to park-and-stay on the Bedd Fellows farm in exchange for labor, something Gran thought up. Molly also needed to find a paying job and applied for the store position at Udderly Creamery, and she got the job there. Alex, though not admitting it at first, only had eyes for Molly, which his friend Kit picked up on it right away. It was great to watch Molly and Alex get to know each other and see their relationship grow into something more. She sensed there was some family drama going on and tension between Ethan and Alex, who have unresolved issues. I am loving the cohesiveness going on in the over arc of the series, with the Bedd family drama and am curious to see how it will all play out in the end. This story is a great addition to the series, and has the perfect balance of drama, witty dialogue and humor, heartfelt emotions and steamy romance. This is my first book written by Liz Alden, and I enjoyed her writing style, her plotting and world building are fantastic, as are the character growth and development. Thank you for the wonderful story and emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧  Alastair Haynesbridge and Erin Mallon do an amazing job bringing these characters to life and do so with a complete understanding of who they are portraying, giving each a voice that is fitting. They are believable in every role, and nailed it as the two leads, grasping every aspect of their personalities with Mallon’s Molly, a perfect ray of sunshine and Haynesbridge, more solemn with a side of grumpiness as Alex. They were just as amazing performing the roles of the secondary characters, too. The pacing and tone are just right for the story and they handle the dialogue naturally, wit included. You could hear how much heart they put into their work as they capture all the characters’ emotions and have you feeling each one. They are entertaining storytellers and a pleasure to listen to. Thanks for another wonderful listen.

“What is it about Alex holding that damn goat. What is it about a big, burly guy, beard and flannel and work boots, holding a baby goat that makes my heart go pitter-patter?”

Butter you Up was definitely some fresh air for me. I couldn’t put it down, and it helped me with a slump. This is a short and fast paced read, funny, with adorable characters. I loved Molly at first sight (word), she is so bubbly, adorable and energetic, a little storm who lives in her van, just to honor a promise made to her father, and spreads positivity (and ideas) wherever she goes. I loved the chronic disease (Eczema) too. The farm environment was a welcome change of scenery for me, and brings its fair share of adorable animals –with, because dogs in books are my kryptonite and because I was the proud parent of 3 Australian Shepherds in my life, a special mention to Alex’s dog, Trixie the Mini Aussie. Who says farm says also farmer and Alex, the MMC, is such a great one! Sexy, caring, grumpy, he has everything and his chemistry with Molly is instant… and steamy. They are really a great match, and I love how their relationship builds in a very realistic way.
I absolutely adored their banters, how family mingles without too much intervention, and how the “farm story” wasn’t too much of a caricature like some romcoms can be. All secondary characters, including Vaniel the van, are really well developed. That impressed me a lot, considering that Butter You Up is the second in a series, each book being written by a different author. I’ll definitely read the other books, but it was so fun to see characters who will have their story told by someone else have their story already developed here. I don’t want to spoil but I also loved the book’s resolution. I’ll just say I love how Alex is supportive and understanding.
This was my second book written by Liz Alden and she for sure is becoming a not-to-miss author for me!

Thank you NetGalley and Liz Alden for this ARC. My opinions are my own.

Butter You Up is a delightful addition to the Farm 2 Forking series, offering a charming blend of humour, romance, and rural life. The story unfolds on Bedd Fellows Farm, where author Liz Alden weaves a compelling tale of romance and family dynamics through the eyes of Alex Bedd and Molly Perkins. Alex, a steadfast advocate for the superiority of cows over people, finds his world turned upside down by the effervescent Molly when her van requires repairs and in exchange for a place to stay, she lends a hand on the farm. Her infectious energy not only revitalizes the farm stand but also sparks a change in him, encouraging reconciliation with his estranged brother. Their evolving relationship is beautifully depicted, marked by witty dialogue, heartfelt moments, and undeniable chemistry. Meanwhile, underlying family tensions, particularly between Ethan and Alex, add depth to the narrative. Liz Alden's storytelling is rich with emotion, humour, and romance, making Butter You Up a brilliant installment in what is shaping up to be a fantastic series.
Alastair Haynesbridge and Erin Mallon truly shine in their portrayal of Alex and Molly, demonstrating a profound understanding of the personas they embody. Their performances as the leads are particularly noteworthy, with Mallon's portrayal of Molly exuding warmth and positivity, while Haynesbridge brings a nuanced solemnity and a touch of grumpiness to Alex. Even in their roles as secondary characters, they maintain a remarkable level of believability and depth. The pacing and tone they deliver are perfectly suited to the story, and their natural handling of the dialogue, complete with wit, enhances the listening experience. Their heartfelt performances capture the full range of emotions, making each character's journey resonate with the audience. As engaging storytellers, Haynesbridge and Mallon offer an entertaining and memorable listening experience.

🎧Audiobook Review
Plot ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨
Spice 🌶️.5
Narration 🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤

Butter You up is book 2 in the Farm 2 Forking series and while each book can be read as a standalone I would recommend reading them in order as there’s a lot of interconnect information that’ll make way more sense when read in order. Plus everything kinda happens consecutively or with some partial overlapping.

We do get introduced to Alex in “Since You’ve Bean Gone” so we’re very much aware that’s he’s grumpy & broody. We also know that he runs Udderly Creamy, a farm that isn’t his family’s. There’s definitely some bad blood between himself and his brothers, especially Ethan. The tension and dynamic between these two brothers was probably one of my favourite parts of the book. I also really enjoyed Kit, who is Alex’s best friend, he added an extra layer showing us a different side of Alex before Molly really helps us see the softer side of him.

Molly was such a fun character!! From her bubbly personality to travelling across the county in her van, which is what brings her to the town of Fork Lick (love the name). She needs to have work done to her van before she can continue so she gets a job on the Bedd Fellows farm helping with the strawberry picking in exchange for a place to stay. Then coincidentally she also snags a paying job at Uddlery Creamy working in the shop for Alex. Her and Alex are like sunshine and storms, they shouldn’t work but somehow they do. I just loved watching their relationship grow and change throughout the book. There was so many laugh out loud parts of this book

Narrated by Erin Mallon, who I is one of my favourite female narrators and does a brilliant job of brining any chatter she reads to life was obviously fabulous along with Alastair Haynesbridge. Who, after listening to in book 1 as well has definitely captured my attention as another great male narrator who is able to captivate emotion into his performances.

Butter You Up by Liz Alden is the second in her Farm to Forking series. It is a very cute story which takes place in Fork Lick, New York. It is about two brothers who are at odds, one working the family farm, the other managing the farm down the road, and Molly, who ends up working for both of them. The family farm is struggling under the debt left by Ethan and Alex’s grandfather and so Ethan is branching out from standard farming. Their first big foray is strawberries and so Molly is parking her van on their property in exchange for working the weekend strawberry festivals. But, she needs actual cash to repair the electrical system in the van and so she needs a paying job. Ethel, the matriarch and Ethan’s grandmother, suggests she go down the road to her other grandson, Alex’s farm stand, where he is looking for help. He and his friend, Kit, vet her and Alex hires her. Kit has been doing it, but he’s bored. He gets bored easily. He’s the comic relief in this story. Well, of course, Molly can’t leave well enough alone and she has to redo the farm stand as well as work hard to bring Alex back into the family. As expected, it all blows up in her face, and she leaves.

Molly is an interesting character. Raised by her single father, who has PTSD and a missing limb from Iraq, had always dreamed about traveling to all 48 continental states, but he is not well enough to go so that is what Molly has been doing. She says in close contact as she worries and she wants to keep him abreast of her travels. He turns out to be pivotal in this very different love story. Fun read. Thanks, Liz Alden, for that.

First and foremost thank you to NetGalley and Liz Alden for an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Overall: Solid 3.5 - 4 stars, fun read, really enjoyable main couple! 2 🌶️ spice level, on page scenes. #2 in "series", but standalone.

(Spoiler free!) Summary: Dual - POV, small town farm romance with grumpy x sunshine vibes, this short and sweet romance follows our extrovert van-travelling, Molly, and grumpy dairy farmer Alex. Small town chaos ensues, involving the Bedd Family dynamic, an adorably spoiled dog, and a sweet but steamy romance.

Short and sweet opinion: I ate this book UP. For me it is not often that I start and finish a book within 24 - 48 hours, and I did with Butter You Up. This small town, sweet but full of character romance hit the spot for me, especially as Grumpy x Sunshine is consistently one of my favorites. I love the dynamic Alden creates in her writing, the sweet but serious scenarios and the realistic yet funny characters.

In-depth opinion (Small spoilers possible): The characters are lovable and realistic, while having some depth added through backstories or struggles. Alden touches on a lot of heavier topics, from chronic eczema, to military related PTSD, to grief and family struggles. While I love seeing these dynamics on page and the depth they add to the character's histories, I wish Alden could have gone farther into some of them. Much of the book is surface level, and with the rich characters, I wish the pacing had allowed for more in-depth exploration of certain aspects. I love the story as it stands, but wanted more!

This is Book 2 in this series and we get a better look at Ethan from book 1's brother Alex.
Alex doesn't work on the family farm,he runs his own Dairy Farm not too far away.
Now the Bedd family is a bit fractured and we do learn more about the grandfather and why Alex left the family to make his own way when he was 15 years old.
Anyway Molly enters his life full of energy and spark she is travelling and passing through, but needs to fix her vehicle before the next stop of her journey.
She needs to earn money for repairs and to boost her savings..Yes you know what is coming next she gets a job working for Alex at his Farm shop..and with Ethan his brother.
They are equally attracted to eachother.
Alex is a Loner and Molly helps him reach out to his family and introduce him back into his family, she opens him up as he is very grumpy and stubborn.
I loved Molly she is quirky and sweet quite the opposite to Alex...but they are perfect together...I also noticed that with both this book and book 1 the female characters have something wrong with them health wise, book 1 focused on Chrons disease and this book Molly is dealing with Eczema.
The Audiobook is once again narrated by Erin Mallon and Alastair Haynesbridge who brought so much humour an emotion to this book.
They were both excellent at portraying these characters.
I am really enjoying this series, especially listening to the audiobook it is introducing me to new authors I never would of thought to have listened to.
Butter You Up By Liz Alden is an Amazing edition to the continuation of The Bedd family and their farm.
Loved Alex and Molly

This was such a cute and funny read. Molly was carefree, someone who got along with pretty much everyone, and really took to farm life. Alex came off as a grump at first, but I honestly thought he was maybe neurodivergent after a while of seeing his interactions with everyone he came into contact with. As someone who is neurodivergent, I felt a kinship with him since I saw myself in a lot of his actions. I thought he and Molly made the perfect couple and I really wish I had even more of them as a couple once they made it official.

I've read several other books by the author before and they're usually steamier, so this one surprised me a bit since it was pretty PG until closer to the end. I'd give this a 2 spice level max.

One thing I've noted before is that I absolutely HATE when an author makes you sign up for their newsletter/visit their website to read the epilogue. It's such a disservice to readers when you're forced to add yourself to their marketing list when they should just include it in the book to begin with as 90% of authors do. And I say that as a corporate email marketing professional/expert who works in email marketing on a daily basis. A bonus epilogue, sure, that's perfectly fine to make you sign up, and many authors do in fact use this acceptable tactic. But to force it to read the finale of the book, it's just annoying. Because of that, I didn't feel like I really had a decent conclusion to the story, only a HFN. This may have been a 5 star review otherwise.

Title: Butter You Up by Liz Alden
Release Date: June, 13th, 2024
Farm 2 Forking #2

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Stars

Alex, finds his life turned upside down by the vibrant and positive Molly, who begins working at his family's debt-ridden farm. Despite his attempts to avoid getting involved, he develops a crush on her, leading to unexpected changes in his life, including repairing his relationship with his brother.
However, just as things seem to be heating up between them, he discovers that Molly's intentions may not be genuine.

"Butter You Up" paints such a delightful picture of farm life that I'm sure everyone would want to experience it, especially if it means encountering someone like Alex.
The grumpy/sunshine trope is expertly handled, and the supporting characters, particularly Kit, add richness to the narrative.

Molly's confident demeanour and the undeniable chemistry between her and Alex kept me completely engrossed, and I found myself unable to set the book aside until I reached the end. Finishing it in just one day left me eagerly anticipating more from the series. This is a heartwarming and engaging read that will leave you with a smile on your face.

This romantic comedy, set on Bedd Fellows Farm, promises laughter and romance amidst the challenges of farm life.

Thank you to The Author Liz Alden & NetGalley for an advanced reader copy (ARC) in exchange for my honest review.

BUTTER YOU UP is the second book in the Farm 2 Forking author collaboration. You really must have read the first book "Since you've bean gone" before starting this one as there's a backstory adding more richness to most of the characters.

Alex is the grumpy brother in the Bedd family and he is happiest when he's with his milkers (cows) at Udderly Creamery, the farm next to Bedd Fellows. Dealing with people in general and his own family in particular, isn't really his thing.

Molly is on the van journey of her life through the US, slowly ticking off her and her father's 3-item bucket list in each state. Nearing New York, her van's batteries are getting to the end of their lives and she has secured a free space at Bedd Fellows Farm in exchange for helping out on the farm for a few months. To earn more money she also agrees to work in the farm shop at Udderly Creamery, where she meets Alex. There is instant attraction between them and they are both quick at acting on it - merging grumpiness and the sparkly sunshine into a lovely story.

Baabara does make herself known in this book as well, causing trouble as Molly arrives; but Trixie (Alex's dog), the baby goats and Mootilda bring the smiles.

With five Bedd siblings and five authors, I'm guessing each sibling will get their own story - BUT, what about Ethel's story? She's such a feisty lady that she deserves to have her own story told!

This is book 2 in the multi author series Farm 2 Forking and can be read/listened to as a standalone but I love this as a part of the series! Our main characters are Alex and Molly. Alex is a local dairy farmer who comes across as a loner and a grumpy one at that. Enter Molly who's traveling via van cross country and stops in Fork Lick to make some repairs on her van and make some money on the way. Her upbeat, addictive personality wins Alex over quickly. These two have the best chemistry and I love watching the physical chemistry between them grow into a more emotional one. I also loved Molly's dad and his take charge; protective nature and Alex's gran who just is so welcoming and loving to everyone. The humor the animals on the dairy farm and neighboring family farm add some humor to some of the deeper emotional issues going on and more secondary, supporting characters are added in this book that make family relations more than the blood that ties, which I adore. Sometimes your chosen family can get you thru things your blood family just can't or won't. A wonderful addition to the series. A smooth flowing and captivating storyline and characters who are perfectly narrated in the audio version of this read. Definitely looking forward to more in this fun, sweet and sizzling, multi author romance series!

This book was given to me for free at my request and I voluntarily provided this review.
*I have both the ebook and audio versions of this read.

Farm 2 Forking Series Pub 2024 5 Books/5 authors

I enjoyed this series in AUDIO. Narrators Alastair Haynesbridge and Erin Mallon (author and narrator) did great jobs. Authors include Lainey Davis, Liz Alden, Karen Grey, Erin Mallon, and Ember Leigh. A copy of this review will be added for each author.

This is a RomCom series and appreciated as such. I liked the many characters in the family and community. I had no trouble keeping up with who was who. The setting was the fictional town of Fork Lick, New York. Lots of jokes about that name and the nearby town of Climax ensued. Baabara the comical, and trouble-making Merino sheep is a personified character throughout the series.

The authors did a good job with continuity of setting and characters thru the books.
The books aren't long, but long enough to enjoy the development of each couple. I loved the grandmother throughout all the books. I liked the overlapping of businesses and various related expertise that characters brought together for the success of all. I felt that I learned a little about growing crops while being entertained. I also learned about Crohn’s disease, which I knew nothing about.

My only complaint is that the ending of the 5th, and apparently the last book felt like more of a segway into another plot line than a conclusion of the series.

Overall, I enjoyed this RomCom series and would have read more if available.

Wow! for the second book in the Farm to Forking series which focuses on Alex, a sad-sack dairy farmer who manages the Udderly Creamy dairy, and Molly, who is a #vanlifer visiting her way around all the US states.

This is a slow burn, slice-of-life, small-town, opposites attract romcom. Alex is low-key estranged from his family on Bedd Fellows Farm down the road (we met them in Since You've Bean Gone although this is a standalone) and he's just trying to keep it all together. He knows he’s missing out on family stuff and opportunities but doesn't really have the ability to fix it. Molly on the other hand is a go-getter and she's sunshiney and kind. She’s parked at Bedd Fellows and working on both farms while she saves up to make some fixes on her van. Molly is always moving on and this slows them both down from exploring a mutual attraction. Will the cows get milked? Will the family face their issues? Will Alex get out of his own way to make a move on Molly? Is there a possibility of a longer term connection? So much fun!

It’s sleepy and so charming. Molly is a delight and the details around cows and goats and milking and the farm shop and really just getting ahead in a farming community are so nicely set out. There's a lil' bit of steam 🌶️ and shenanigans and lots of lovely characters in this universe. It's short, so there's nothing baggy and no complicated side plots. What a great series this is becoming!

Thank you NetGalley, Liz Alden and the publishers for the ARC. Opinions are my own
