Callie
I don’t do hook ups, let me make that clear, I don’t set myself up to get my heart broken. But for some reason unbeknownst to me, the most arrogant, pig headed guy on the hockey team (who happens to be the captain) has decided it’s his mission to get me to drop my pants for him. He most definitely loves the chase and my constant rejection of his charms is only spurring him on. Other girls might fall at his feet and I can see why, but I won’t be the next girl to do the walk of shame out of his bedroom, over my dead body.

Sean
At 23 years old there’s not much more I could want from life. I’m captain of the hockey team, have high flying millionaire parents and a constant supply of girls begging for a ride on my dick. Callie changed all of that though. There’s just something about her, the way she moves, the way she scowls at me every time I’m near her and the way she’s so determined to hate me that just keeps me coming back for more. I don’t know why I’m suddenly so obsessed with this firecracker but I just can’t stay away. I always knew I’d change my ways for the right woman and I think… it might be her.

2.75-3 ⭐️ Sean is the only reason why I didn’t dnf the book. He was perfection!!!! Admittedly, he was a conceited ass in the beginning of the book, and I wanted to slap some sense into him, but he changed completely as soon as he developed feelings for Callie.

In my opinion, Sean and Callie only fell for each other because of their physical appearance. There was noo deep, intimate connection between them, only a sexual one. That’s it! They barely knew any personal details about one another…but they were suddenly ✨obsessed✨. Why was that? Nobody knows! They just were and we, the readers, had to blindly trust that that was the truth. Most of the time, we didn’t see them actually spending time together unless they were having wild sex, otherwise we were only told in short paragraphs when and how they spent time together.

I have a feeling this book was written by a young, inexperienced author because otherwise I can’t explain some of the weird and immature scenes/dialogue (for ex. Sean sticking his tongue into Callie’s décolletage during dinner, in a whole ass restaurant, with his parents in front of them😅) that took place in it. Only someone young (18-25y) could have come up with some of the ridiculous dialogue in this book! 😂

On thin Ice had all the tropes I usually love in a college sports romance, and while I did enjoy some of the sweet, wholesome moments Sean and Callie have shared, the mediocre writing (it’s very obvious it’s her debut novel) and the annoying, raging fmc made me rate it lower than expected. And that makes me so sad because I was very sure that this would be a 4-5 star read for me. :(

Starting off the book with a hookup with three girls. That’s a RED FLAG 🚩 for me.
Sleeping around and especially with more than one girl at a time is not appealing at all so romance authors please STOP THAT!

I know, unfortunately, that boys and men talk in a very disrespectful and vulgar manner about girls but to read about it in YA romance books just normalises it and I don’t think that’s ok.

This book is like The Graham Effect and Consider Me had a baby together.

Now disregarding the above, the rest of the book is just right down my alley.

Even though Sean is a cocky arrogant man but, I absolutely love when a man is obsessed with a woman. Who wouldn’t dwell in that extra attention, protection and love. It’s everything us women want, we’re emotional and caring by nature and any person who comes and gives us half of what we feel makes us turn into a giant mush puddle.

I would’ve preferred more interaction between Callie and Lois (Sean’s sister).

The book started out pretty cocky with eye rolling and what the heck moments but it then grows on you. Thank God there is no third act breakup, rather a small almost but not quite.

Sean is a giant teddy bear of a man, a replica of Carter Beckett in Consider Me but a bit more obsessed. I love the attention to details this book has depicting real life relationship struggles. Being hung on your phone awaiting a text or a reply from your bf/gf. Feeling frantic when you unwillingly do something wrong and expect your bf/gf to break up with you.
The feelings and reactions are so genuine that I completely relate to it in real life.

And can I just say the illustrations are so BEAUTIFUL!! 😍

Can’t wait for Kyle’s book. I got a hint that he is equally as obsessive as Sean 😉

Such an easy read, absolutely packed with spice and thankfully no third act break up! Sean might be the hottest book boyfriend out there, and Callie is feisty but a secret softy! If you liked Icebreaker then you’ll love this! My only slight with this book is that it’s set in the UK but uses some American terminology “jerk off” “spanked our asses” “dorm room” etc

This book reminded me a lot of Consider me! I thought it was cute and funny! I love how this man sees her during a game and obsesses over her then he finds out she’s coach daughter and that doesn’t stop him at all he does everything to prove to her she can trust him! I like the friends in this book
I like there is no third act breakup just a moment (one night apart) after he gets set up!! Super cute

This book is absolutely mind-blowing and it has easily become one of my top favorite books I've read and my first book by this author! Daisy Egan, the way you have written this book and created such vivid and detailed scenes is beyond me. The storyline and plot were so good it hurts and the spice 😳 is divine and you will not be disappointed by Sean😁

This is also a book that the MMF is the Grumpy Sunshine which is a first for me and I can't lie I loved it😍 Callie is such a fierce and strong willie woman but not to the point that it's annoying( just the right amount). Deep down Callie is a very complex character who's actually very insecure due to a past relationship. But she is so loveable and she loves will all her being.💕

Sean 😍is the definition of golden retriever vibes! He comes across as very self-absorbed and a very much appreciated f*ck-boy but he is such a caring person who wants nothing more than to centre his whole world around Callie. And he's so hot if you couldn't tell from the cover🤤

Quick and easy hockey romance! I loved both of the characters in this book, they worked well together and their personalities meshed perfectly.

Overall a good read, but there were some things that I think could have been written differently. I think the relationship between Callie and Sean was too fast, would have liked it more if it was dragged out further in the beginning. Also, I think some of the important parts of the book were glossed over quickly and could have been explored more.

But I would recommend reading to anyone who loves a simple, cute, predictable romance 🥰

This was a quick read and I enjoyed the story, but I unfortunately had a lot of different reasons why I couldn’t give it 5 stars. Even with the reformed playboy trope, the guy doesn’t have to be a complete pig in the way he thinks of women for the trope to work.

I almost stopped reading this right at the start because of how douchey the main character was. Talking about hooking up with 3 girls the night before isn’t an attractive quality, and the way he spoke/thought about women was gross, including “project get into Callie’s pants.”

Sean was too cocky, too demeaning, too douchey. But, once he became a man obsessed with Callie though, and not just for the chase or to hook up with her, he completely changed. Thankfully this was a quick change and he actually became the sweetest. For never having been in a relationship before, he killed the boyfriend game.

I really enjoyed how hard of a time Callie gave Sean at first. She was sarcastic and feisty and a very likable character right from the start, but I do wish she had made Sean work for it a lot more. Regardless, they were incredibly cute together.

“I might be finding it hard to resist his hot body but he makes it easier for me every time he opens his mouth and words come out.”

Overall I liked them together but at time it felt a little high schoolish.

3/3.5 ⭐️

“Callie before you I was just me, and I never want to be just me again.” ❤️

Sean is the charming playboy hockey caption who, and the first sight of Callie, at his game is instantly obsessed with her and is determined to make her his. What may have first started off as just sexual attraction to her grows into something more and he soon realizes that he doesn’t just want her body. He wants her heart and he wants her to want his as well.
Callie is the grumpy gymnast who doesn’t do hook ups or one night stands. She is a relationship girlie, but is struggling with opening up, trusting people, and fear of rejection after a bad previous relationship. She soon finds out that resisting Sean is a lot easier said than done.. Oh and she’s also his hockey coaches daughter!

There were some things that I wished would’ve been done differently, taken out, or included, but over all for what it was and what was there to read.. it was a pretty decent read.
There was plenty of spice, and so many sweet swoon quotes that I have tabbed.

Tropes:
Hockey Romance
He falls first and hard
No third act breakup
Reformed playboy

Likes
- Sean was so patient with Callie even though he knew what he wanted. And he wanted her. All of her
- I loved his protective and possessive side as well
- the spice 🌶️🔥
- I liked seeing when Callie finally and completely let him so that she could see what it felt like to be loved and cared for properly

Dislikes
- There was just something about the plot that seem choppy, rushed in some places, and incomplete in others
- For as adamant as Callie was about not wanting anything with Sean, and how she wouldn’t sleep with him, she sure flipped that script quick..
- I would’ve liked to see more relationship build up from the beginning when she was against being with/sleeping with him, to when things changed
- I also would’ve there to have been an epilogue so we could see what their future together looked like

enjoyable

I liked the storyline, loved the flip of him being the one to go hard first and her being super reluctant.

Loved the characters and the group, in fact the world the author is building is well developed and I think this will be an interesting series as it goes on.

Nicely written but I struggled with the book formatting sometimes, finding it hard to differentiate between who was speaking when.

Also, being from the UK, I found the whole premise a bit of a stretch for me (weird I know, this is literally a fiction book….) but the whole university hockey thing and him being 23 and still at Uni on a scholarship……felt like the author wanted to write a hockey book and wrote it in the UK to give it a new edge or because she’s British and would find it easier to write. It just added a whole new level of unbelievability I personally struggled to get past at times.

However that’s a me thing most likely and I am sure readers will find this a fun read (not without triggers though so check before reading)

This book was equal parts sweet and spicy with the most golden retriever book boyfriend ever! Callie and Sean’s dynamic is fiery and full of tension in the beginning and I loved the way Callie slowly warmed to him after all his hard work to win her over. I’m in love with the way these two talk to each other and interact, Sean is so gentle but also dominating in a really hot way with her. If you liked icebreaker or the off campus series then you’ll love this book and hopefully the others in the series that are to come!

i am not going to lie, i am always wary of books with little to no attention that seem to be an obvious tiktok algorithm grab, but this book surprised me in a good way! when the main plot line got "solved" not even at the midpoint of the story, i did not know what to expect from the rest of the book but i enjoyed getting to see some growth from the characters. otherwise there isn't much plotline, it is a bit unrealistic and it gets repetive at times, but i still enjoyed reading this book!

Okay. First. This is a good book. But we need to completely get rid of the word “whilst.” There are some weird formatting issues and yeah some grammar. But I think it has so much promise with a good editor.

The MMC is a total love sick, golden retriever and I love him.

The manwhore hockey player is a cliche for a reason. He needs an STD panel and therapy. That magical soulmate bond doesn't suddenly make someone like him monogamous and it's insulting to readers to make it seem like such a simple thing to swap his entire personality over a girl.

It was just, how do I put it, cringy, weird, bizarre. I felt like I was reading something off of wattpad. The characters were annoying, there was no depth, no emotion, and the writing was horrible.
