I’m constantly amazed at the way I become immersed in a Heather B. Moore book. This story is beautiful, nostalgic, hopeful, and full of second chances and settling the past. Told in two different time periods, this wonderful story unfolds in bits and pieces, allowing for a slight mystery to come to light. It’s always fascinating to me how one little choice or decision can alter life’s course.
When Carly gets in trouble at school and has to do some service with her mother, Anita, they meet Sam at an assisted living center. An unlikely friendship forms and with the help of Sam’s son, Wyatt, this foursome embarks on a journey that completely touches every facet of my heart and soul. I loved the depth to so many different relationships and how they were changed, strengthened, and shaped by events.
It was pure joy transporting myself from the early 1980s to the early 1920s and learning all about these delightful characters. This moving story will stay with me for a long while.
Content: mild romance

THOUGHTS The 80s were the best decade ever - and that's when I knew this book was gonna be my jam! Susan and I, we're like the same person - single, divorced, mom to an awesome daughter, and struggling with elderly parents. I was like 'hey, been there, done that, got the t-shirt, and the mug, and the keychain!' I thoroughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it.
I stumbled upon Heather Moore’s books a couple of years ago and it was like finding a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow! Her book, The Paper's Daughter of Chinatown, was an absolute page turner that left me wanting more! Heather's got the Midas touch when it comes to writing romance and historical fiction!
CONTENT 🛁 Squeaky clean read. No sex, nudity, or profanity. Baby out of wedlock. ⚠️Threats of violence but none depicted.
Pub Date 4/23/24
Many thanks to the author for a gifted copy! All opinions are my own.
If you're looking for a heartfelt and beautiful read then I highly recommend this one. It was so beautifully written. I love books that bring characters together and show healing and wonderful friendships. Anita is a single mom. Carly is a teenager trying to figure out life. When Carly has to do community service, it leads to her and her mom spending time at a retirement home. And that leads them to meeting Sam, a resident, and his grandson Wyatt.
These characters and the way their stories connect and weave together was so touching to read. I love how Heather B. Moore can write such real and raw characters and draw her readers into the story, so much so that we feel these characters could be ourselves or our friends. We can see our story in theirs.
I loved reading and discovering more of Sam's history and how Anita, Wyatt and Carly come together to help him find something that was lost. Not only do we see his story but we get to watch a sweet love story and several sweet friendships form and develop. I loved it all so much! I didn't want it to end. I kept telling several bookish friends while I was reading it that they needed to make it their next reads! And you do too! ;-)
Content: Clean. Some kisses. Some talk about a child born out of wedlock but very minimal and not in detail.

This book was so sweet. I absolutely loved the story and the characters and the way everything was done. Heather did a beautiful job. I need more books just like this in my life.
Something I deeply appreciated with this book is that there were no overblown reactions to things that happened. A couple of times I worried the story was going to spiral with some blame or someone blowing up, but that didn’t happen. It was low drama, high emotions. I know that doesn’t sound like it could work, but it does. Heather proves it can be done.
The relationship between Anita and her daughter, Carly, is really cute. They have their struggles, as parents of teenagers all can affirm happens, but they worked to overcome them together. Anita was so patient. I liked that she didn’t let her high emotions get the better of her. And I wish I could see her artwork. It sounds fascinating.
Sam is the cutest old man you’ve ever met in a book, and you’ll be jealous that Carly gets to be his friend. And Wyatt is a genuinely good guy. Maybe a bit misguided, but I loved his humility, his ability to communicate with Carly as well, and relationship with his grandfather.
Also the romance is just sweet. It just is. I love romance with slightly older protagonists. So good.
A lot of things happen in this book. It’s a great one for showing how to handle complicated relationships with grace and poise.
I’m not doing this book justice. I’m afraid I’m just making it sound stilted, which it absolutely is not. It is lovely. It felt like real people, navigating real challenges, and trying to do so in kind, ways. People making mistakes and saying sorry. People growing closer together. People healing in ways they didn’t realize they needed. It was really beautiful. Honestly, my only hang up with it was I kept forgetting it was set in the 80’s and had to remind myself they couldn’t use cell phones to make all those phone calls because they didn’t exist! Ha!
Really, everything else was wonderful. If you want a book that feels like looking in the lives of real people, without high drama, choose this one. And now please excuse me while I go check on some more of Heather’s books for more of the same vibe, because I am here for it.
**Thanks to the author for the copy. A positive review was not required and these are my genuine thoughts.
“Memories were strange things. Sometimes they were murky, like a hazy day. Other times they felt like the event only happened a few days ago.”
The Healing Garden was such a heartwarming and lovely book. I’m always inspired by themes of hope, second chances, healing of hearts, and redemption, and these are beautifully crafted by the author.
The love, respect, and friendship between the elderly and the young particularly touched me and was really sweet.
All the 80’s references made me smile…books on tape, Walkman, card catalogs at the library, landline phones.
The Healing Garden is beautifully written, told in dual timelines (1919 & 1981) with a seamless flow, and is part of THE HEALING SERIES. It can be read as a standalone.
There are so many things to love about this story. I loved all of the great characters. There is old love, new love and the love between a mother and her daughter. The journey to help Sam created so many wonderful relationships.
“Friendships help us grow as a person and they also teach us to be better friends down the road.”

“We all make mistakes, it doesn’t mean we have to keep engeing them.”
Dear @authorhbmoore the overall message of love and friendship, particularly between the elderly and the young in this dear story is heartwarming and inspiring. This dear story is filled completely with such tender second chances, relatable and endearing characters, great redemption, bright hope, and intriguing suspense! It’s a quick-read story with depth and originality! It’s worth reading!!
Multiple relationships are strengthened, new ones are formed and a lost love is found all because a teenage girl gets suspended and serves her community service hours in an assisted living center.
Single mom Anita and her daughter Carly meet Sam and his grandson Wyatt while Carly's serving her service hours. An unlikely friendship forms between the teenager and senior citizen as Carly and her mom continue to visit Sam once the service hours are completed.
This is another wonderful tale from Heather B. Moore and I loved this multi-generational story of relationships, forgiveness and finding love. This story is about relationships: mother/daughter, grandfather/grandson, teenager/senior citizen, neighbors, school friends, and lost loves. Each are important and were strengthened in this beautiful story.
I loved the dual timeline 1981 & 1919) and multiple POV. I'm a sucker for a second-chance romance so I was thrilled when Anita, Carly, Wyatt and Sam took a road trip to solve the mystery of Sam's postcard. It's never too late to find love again. It's a feel good story and I liked the gentle way the author lets it unfold.

The Healing Garden tells a touching story filled with hope, dreams, and new beginnings. It explores themes of past relationships, personal sacrifices, and the power of forgiveness.
Anita is a single mother and faces a turning point when her daughter Carly gets suspended from school because of her so-called friends. To make amends, Carly does community service at an assisted living center, where both of them meet Sam Davis. An unexpected friendship blossoms between Sam, an elderly man, and Carly, who is just fourteen. This connection is one of my highlights of the story.
It is set in 1981, a period that holds many fun memories for me. The story also includes chapters that transport readers back to 1923, when Sam was with his high school sweetheart, Susan. Years later, in his 80s, Sam receives a postcard from Susan. With his wife gone and his grandson Wyatt doubting his memories, Sam's journey unfolds. Without revealing too much, the story weaves several events together that unite friends and family. There are moments of sweet romance and healing for many characters, making this novel both heartwarming and relatable, making The Healing Garden a genuinely uplifting read.
Another beautiful story from a truly amazing author! I loved the bits of old with the really old.. haha! I barely remember 1981! But it was a great time of life! This story reminded me of that! Life was simpler and not as dramatic in everyday life! I really enjoyed how everything was woven together! Wonderful characters filled the dialogue and scenes beautifully!
Thanks to the author for the chance to enjoy this story! All opinions are my own!
This was a lovely story. It is a romance but there is so much more going on than that. I loved the mystery of searching for a long lost first love. This is set in 1981 so they didn't have the internet and cell phones to make the task easier. And there were so many relationships besides romance. Mother/daughter, child/absentee parent, grandfather/grandchildren, friends, neighbors etc... It was nice to see how they all worked together, or how they didn't. I really enjoyed Mr. Davis and Carly together. What a delightful twosome. And it is of course that bond that allows the romance to follow as well. I confess I didn't like Wyatt all that much initially but he quickly grew on me and I loved seeing his naturally caring person reach out in kindness to Carly and her mom. I really loved Carly. She is a fun teenager personality. At least once she got rid of her awful friends. The flashback scenes of Sam and Susan were sweet but sad too. It seemed like it was supposed to happen that way though. It felt like the natural thing. Poor Susan though because I think she got the raw end of that deal. Fun fact: They travel to Medford, Oregon in this book and that is where I grew up. :)
Potential triggers: divorce, abandonment, absentee father No sex, language or violence *I received a complimentary ARC of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
I love a good romance that has me grinning ear to ear as I read it. This book definetly checks that box! I read this book in just a few days and everytime I picked it up it just made me smile. While this is a romance, the romance didn't take up every moment of the book. A lot of the book focuses on Anita and Carly's relationship and on their budding friendship with Sam.
Favorite Quote: "I discovered in my marriage that choosing each other should always come first."
Favorite Moments: - Anita and Carly's relationship - Cold Calling for research - The Roadtrip
Overall, this is a great book and I loved it a lot. Be sure to pick it up today!

“Sometimes a woman just looks forward to a good book to read.”
And this book is a good one! Single mom Anita doesn’t know what to do with her daughter, Carly. Her sweet daughter has turned into a moody teenager with friends who aren’t the best influence. When Carly gets suspended from school, she has to do community service before she’s allowed to go back. The only place she can find to volunteer is the senior center, but only if Anita goes with her, much to her dismay. But Anita will make time to do it for her daughter’s sake. While there, they meet Sam, and he tells them stories about his past, including his lost love, Susan. Soon Anita, Carly, and Sam’s grandson, Wyatt are trying to track down Susan and trying to find out if she really existed or if Sam imagined her.
This book is really good! It was fun to read about how Anita, Carly, and Wyatt figured out how to go about tracking someone down, because this is set in 1981, so it’s not like they could’ve just gone online. This book explores a lot of relationships: mother-daughter, father-daughter, love, and friendships, and I enjoyed reading how they evolved. I also really liked the flashbacks to Sam’s teenage and young adult years. I’m looking forward to reading the next book in this series when it comes out!
I received an advanced copy from the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This is a lovely book. From the very beginning, I was drawn in by the characters. I liked how the author avoided stereotypes--Carly wasn't a moody teenager, Wyatt wasn't an impatient, too busy for the people in his life workaholic, etc. The characters were just all good people, the sort of people it's easy to root for. I really liked the look at so many different types of relationships and seeing how everyone interacted with one another. Just a really good book.
I read an ARC provided by the author. All opinions are my own.
This recent release by Heather B Moore is the perfect feel good read! Anita and her daughter Carly have an opportunity to help out an elderly man in a unique search and a trip down memory lane.
This book is full of kindness, family, the importance of relationships, and taking care of those you love! From beginning to end this book is one that will leave you with that feel good feeling!
This book is like a warm blanket - it's an inspiring, lovely story that focuses on the importance of friendships and family - whether it's the family we are born into or the family we find along the way.
Sometimes sitting down with a book like this is just what I need to brighten my day.
A wonderful book of first loves and forever loves! A journey of connections and friends for a season and friends for a reason. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did!
I received an ARC from the author and all opinions are my own.
What a lovely book :) it was a mix of Hallmark and Letters to Juliet. I’d recommend for an adult audience who wants something sentimental, hopeful, and (like the title suggests) healing 🩵🫶🏼🦋🌸
What a beautiful story. We all have gone through or will go through one of the scenarios that take place in this story. Be it caring for an aged parent or grandparent, a divorce or break up of a relationship, or a parent child relationship. Whatever circumstances we come across in our lives, if we can show respect, love and kindness the outcome will be much more positive. I love the examples of this throughout the book. We will all have trials and keeping calm and having faith is key. I felt peace and healing throughout this book. The characters were very enjoyable, and the story flowed seamlessly. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Heather Moore, H B Moore is one of my favorite writers. I always finish her books with a 'feel good' feeling. The healing series is a delightful set of books to read.
I can’t even begin to tell you how much I adore the privilege of knowing my grandparents. The privilege I have had in my life of working with elderly. And honestly, the knowledge of knowing that one day that very well could be me. So when the opportunity to read this book came along I was excited. I adored this story of Sam going back in time. Of the part Carly, Anita, and Wyatt played in it.
I just love Sam. The gruffness, the joy, the memories…it was just an honor to witness it unfold. His backstory and the way he handled everything was just so inspiring. He was a true gentleman.
I loved how Anita was portrayed…her love for her daughter just shone through yet we also got to see her vulnerability and struggles. Her dynamic with Carly was lovely to read about because it wasn’t perfect which is how life is. I really enjoyed Carly’s insight throughout the book too!
I like how the love stories portrayed in this book were real and not the sole focus. Sometimes I feel like I need that. It was about life and learning and I really enjoyed how it unfolded.
Thank you so much to the author for writing this book. All opinions expressed are my own.
I'd love to visit an artist's garden. Ms Moore has written another lovely story of loves, past and present-ish. This is the second book of the series but while you don't need to have read the first, I really enjoyed meeting the elegant Maggie from Healing Summer at the library. Good story, interesting people, another book that kept me up late.
A sweet dual timeline story full of love, kindness, and growth.
When a young lady, who has been in trouble at school and throwing attitude to her single mom, meets an 80+ yr old gentleman as part of her community service ‘punishment’- it changes their worlds.
I loved how the story wasn’t overly dramatic or intense. It was enjoyable to read and felt very relatable. A single mom doing her best to make ends meet while keeping a good relationship with her daughter, and a brother and sister trying to understand their dad as he ages and his mind seems to be slipping come together in a beautiful and natural way.
There is a love story in the past timeline and the current one- and both made you cheer for and celebrate with them.
I received this book from the author- the opinions are my own.
I absolutely loved this story! Relationships, past and present. This book weaves such great stories together. I love the present day and then going back and seeing what happened in the past as well. Plus how all of the characters found a way to heal from whatever bad things life had thrown at them. This was a really compelling story and I thoroughly enjoyed the journey! Each and every character captured my attention and I loved seeing how their lives unfolded throughout the book. The ending was perfect and just wonderful. Definitely recommend this one!
I received an advanced copy of this book from the author. I was not required to leave a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I have been reading a lot of rom coms lately, so this book was a great change of pace!
This book takes place in 1981, but has flashbacks to 1919. I loved being able to get insight into some of the character’s lives. This is a great story about friendship, with the elements of hope and healing. If you enjoy sentimental stories, this would be a great book for you to read!
This is definitely a book I will read again. So thankful to have it on my bookshelf!
❤️I would rate this book G. This book is kissing only. ❤️
Thank you to the author for gifting me a copy of The Healing Garden! This is my honest opinion and all words are my own.
Based on the description, I didn’t know how much I would enjoy this book. I was pleasantly surprised!!! I was immediately drawn in to the tender feelings shared by all of the characters. I love how the characters from 3 different generations found ways to strengthen each other. I enjoyed the sweet romance and the friendships that prevailed. I now want to go back and read the first book in this series soon.
This is a heartwarming story with single mother Anita, her teenage daughter Carly and Sam a retired war veteran and his grandson Wyatt. I really enjoyed how the story developed. I was very invested in the characters. The storyline didn’t exactly end the way I expected but I was very satisfied with it.
