Joy Miller loves life. She’s happy to be able to spend time in the fields helping her father and is willing to work for anyone who needs some harvesting or planting done. But she feels like she’s ready to marry and leave her demon horde existence behind.
Thomas Worthington is a wealthy bank manager from Boston, who needs a wife to help him with clients and entertaining. He decides to contact a matchmaker to provide him with a mail-order bride.
When Joy arrives in Boston, she seems like the perfect wife to him. Will he be able to look past her bare feet and the fact she’s always digging in the dirt? Or will they be unable to work well together?
Maybe too much joy… I love the concept of opposites attracting but this story was a whirlwind and left me feeling like I was missing something. The characters were fun. Joy added so much life to the story which was appreciated but using the word joy so much got annoying after a while. Joy brought joy- it was said so much I had to grit my teeth. Thomas never felt as real as his counterpart. I wish we would have seen him in her element more than Joy in his. It was a decent fast read- just wished the pacing had been better.
Another great Brides of Beckham book.Loved this one and couldn’t put it down.Joy decides she wants to be a mail order bride for a farmer and goes to see her sister Elizabeth. There are no farmers looking for a bride at this time so she chooses a Banker named Thomas. He wants Joy to entertain his high society friends. She doesn’t even like to wear shoes let alone fancy clothes.
Joy just wanted to garden but choosing a husband was the issue. Going to her sister proved her vision might be different than she thought. She picked banker Thomas because he seemed to need joy in his life. Oh, the trials, challenges and experiences they would find. The society easy life was not for her, but her charm was working on Boston elite.
I loved this book! Joy is a wonderful star for this story. Im glad the father, Thomas way easily changed into a changable person and enjoyed his wife's beautiful personality.
I have been totally enjoying this series by one of my favorite authors. You feel like you get to know her characters as their stories unfold. I so enjoyed Thomas and Joy's story. I was happy to find another Miller family in this one. These two are so good together. A great read.
Five stars, it was obvious by the title of the book what it was about. Mismatch by Thomas a Banker and Joy a farmer's daughter in every way. But she won over Boston elite and she wins over Thomas. Good ending.
It was hard to put this book down! Opposites really do attract! Joy was named appropriate! So full of Happiness and a way of sharing it! Thomas needed her and Joy made him a better man!
