This time around the extra volume, which is always characterised by being about the holidays (in this case the winter holidays) wasn't as important as it usually is. There were about two things important for later on, but one of them was already mentioned in previous volumes which makes it not that much important after all.
I also felt a bit disappointed by how Sakayanagi acted in this volume (yes, once more, it seems like the second-year Sakayanagi is a bit different than the first-year Sakayanagi). People might say she is just developing like the other characters, but there were so many moments already in this book series which hinted that Sakayanagi's class didn't develop unless like the other classes, which will probably be her downfall. Precisely 'cause of this, the only reason why Sakayanagi behaves the way she does is to please the reader most likely. I'm disappointed about this turn of events as it isn't the first time this happened in this series and I feel like it starts to become like a stereotypical anime with this trope. Of course not the whole light novel is stereotypical, boring or the like, but it's seems to take a turn which I won't be satisfied with like I used to be with the series. At least Sakayanagi is more on the logical side than the emotional which made the moment a bit less hard to read.
Except that, I'm glad to see that there will be another special exam soon and that it will most likely decide if Sakayanagi's class is actually holding the upperhand or not. Honestly, I'm a bit afraid to see where this goes, but at the same time I want to see the drama of having a special exam once more. Also, the rematch of Sakayanagi and Ayanokouji as well as Ryueen and Ayanokouji are coming closer. Let's see who will win these rematches (and also how exactly they will rematch, I would love to see another fist fight honestly).
As every X.5 volume, it happens over a break. Compared to every other X.5 volumes, this one felt slow and slightly boring but there's a bunch of special exams coming soon (Koji and Ryueen guessing it might be at least 4) and the author said the 3rd term of 2nd year won't be as long as term 2 of 2nd year but will be equal or shorter than term 3 of 1st year. Here's hoping for a fun ride. Overall though, I don't feel like anything significant happened in this volume (I didn't feel this way about other X.5 volumes, maybe it's the barrage of new characters or it's just really uneventful)
Kei simps REJOICE! Y'all will get the answer you are waiting for in this volume. Brace for impact!
This was a chill volume but honestly its one of my favorites. I really enjoyed it and the small moments. Ichinose is making moves little by little and taking so many selfies just to take one with Ayanokouji is crazy. I honestly really love Ayanokouji interacting with girls from other classes Ichinose, Hiyori, but namely Sakayanagi. I'm not sure but i genuinely love their interactions and i really enjoyed how they ate cake once again in their room. And shortcake? Im kinda jealous. Then outside sakayangi just casually says she loves him. Anyway looks like Ayanokoji and Kei made up but perhaps he chose the wrong person to learn love with.. at least thats what it looks like he is thinking. I kinda know what will happen but not entirely. So im definitely curious about it. Also he talked about "and the act of sleeping together" and then Kei im guessing "joked" that if they will bath together. So Im guessing they did actually sleep together but im not sure and im genuinely curious. Well on to volume 10 which is extremely exciting for the illustration with Horikita and also it looks like Ichinoses and Ayanokoujis relationship will deepen ever so slightly.

Not much action in this but I appreciate it for what it was. Sort of like a slice of life episode within an anime. It highlighted relationships both new and old between Ayan and the others but also reminding the readers of what's to come in the third and final semester of the second year. I loved the holiday vibes in this, it kind of was a good way to get me into the Christmas spirit. It's funny to see how Ayan navigates through highschool and his relationships around the holidays considering his unusual circumstances and new founded freedom at school. I really like that some side characters were thrown into the mix and were developed decently. I will be awaiting the next volume!
Volume interlocutorio.
this book feels like it's setting up a lot of problems for the final semester of year 2, potentially even setting the stage for the final battles in year 3. not quite sure what ayo's goal is anymore, hoping that begins to become clearer in the next few books. have to wait for vol 10 to be translated tho so i've got awhile to wait
Winter break of the second year. Kiyotaka spends the whole volume wandering around randomly interacting with students. Mostly this one is to establish the current attitudes of everyone going into the 3rd trimester. We get to see Ayanokoji’s sociopathic approach to his relationship with Kei. Hopefully this is all working towards an interesting conclusion to year 2.
.5 volumes really show how young and boyish Ayanokouji can be because what do you mean he, with utmost care and genuineness, conducted the ceremony of unboxing a yoghurt maker 😭
