I have now read the first three books of this five-book fantasy series and I honestly don't understand why it's not better known. The use of Inuit mythology is superb; and there are just enough details of their hard everyday life to prevent the idealization of their culture. In these books lice, dirt and hunger coexist with shadows, Neanderthal sorcerers, spirit companions and other marvels that owe nothing to the worn-out Tolkien tradition. Now that Chinese and African SF and fantasy are bursting onto the scene, I hope this series will get the recognition it deserves.
