All that glitters is not gold… Sometimes it’s just stacks of cash stolen from the mob, piled in a bedazzled diaper bag.
With his cousin on the run, police officer Robbie O’Connor becomes a fake single dad to protect her two baby girls and their cat, Miss Purrfect.
The fool doth think he is wise… Feeling safe with the kids hidden away from danger, Robbie turns his eye toward their new sexy neighbor, Summer. On any other vacation, she would be the perfect holiday fling, but it’s out of the question while juggling kiddie duty and trying to clear his cousin’s name. Except there’s something about her…
But a rose by any other name doesn’t always smell as sweet, especially when Robbie finds out he’s not the only one pretending.
Oh, what a tangled web…

This was such a FUN read. Think the pacifier but with 3 men trying to take care of their nieces. It’s a slow burn romance but the romance is oh so worth it. But the comedy and family coming together is what makes this book so special. And the suspense thrown in! It was a fun ride from start to finish! Definitely worth the read if you love a classic romcom!
I feel like this book is if the departed was a rom com. You have the Boston PD baddie, Robbie. Who gets an emergency message via letter from his cousin Tara letting him know she is in trouble with the mob and he needs to get her girls to safety while she goes on the run.
Then you have the hot af, girl next door FBI agent who is assigned to the case. (unbeknownst to Robbie) and by next door I mean she literally rents the beach house next door to him and his nieces.
Both are hell bent on protecting his family, but accidentally fall in love during the process.
This was cute summer read!
Thank you Hambright PR for the gifted copy in exchange for an honest review.
This book is the perfect summer read! It’s laugh out loud hilarious with tender moments, intrigue, romance, and lots of “magic” (IYKYK). What could be more fun than three brothers taking care of their young nieces at the beach while in hiding from the mob? Add in gorgeous next door neighbors and a disgruntled cat and you have a recipe for ultimate shenanigans. I loved the storyline and all the characters, especially Shakespeare-spouting younger brother Tim. I look forward to more books featuring the O’Connor clan!
Thank you Hambright PR and the author, Ava Miles, for my ARC copy!
This books was a cute, laugh-out-loud, whimsical rom-com I didn't know I needed in my life. This book is a stand alone, set in the third person, so if that's your jam, then this is for you!
The grumpy x sunshine trope is one of my favorites, so I had a feeling I was going to enjoy this one! Enter Robbie: our attractive, almost 40, over protective uncle turned dad to his two nieces when the most unlikely of circumstances forces them into his care. He's our brooding cop in contrast to our optimistic and bad*ss FBI agent, Lily aka Summer. The banter and chemistry between these two was so fun! Mix in two adorable nieces, a feisty cat named Miss Purrfect, Robbie's very Irish brothers, and Sheila, Lily's FBI partner, and you have the perfect little Rom Com cast that plays out just like a movie/Netflix show!
I don't want to spoil too much, so I'll leave you with the tropes in hopes they spark your interest and have you picking up your very own copy!
Tropes: - grumpy x sunshine - hidden identity (FBI agent x cop) - fake dad (you gotta read to get it lol) - RomCom - third person narrative
Favorite quote: "When you can laugh together, you can get through anything together. That's how I feel about you."
I think this is the coolest and most hilarious and downright most entertaining undercover mission romance I have ever read! Robbie and Lily were caught in a web of beach vacation with danger, missing cousin and her adorable girls, being fake father and fake neighbor..and very very real attraction and feels. Ava Miles packed a lot in these pages. The sharp humor, the laugh out loud moments, the sudden sobering heartaching points, the super slow burn chemistry and a blast of an ending..this book left me clutching my stomach and holding my heart.
Robbie was sent to a very serious mission by his cousin Tara who is running from the Kellys who got involved in her nail salon business for her cheating ex husband's money laundering. He is an expert and honest cop. He has to take care of her girls while she is figuring it out. He calls for help from his brothers Tim and Billie. Together they arrive at a holiday rental in Outer Banks. Little did they know that they are being followed by two undercover FBI agents who are now their neighbors. Lily need the Kelly case for her promotion but she has to be careful. Because Robbie is becoming more that her person of interest.
So many of my favorite tropes! Grumpy-sunshine. Forced Proximity. Cop and FBI agent. Fake Relationship. Rom com. This book is just too good to resist. It was an interesting and innovative mix of a spy movie and a holiday romance. Robbie is so serious and Grumpy and brooding and just so hot. His protectiveness for the two cute adorable girls away from their mother is instant panty melting material. Lily is serious about this mission but underneath her tough FBI personality, she is a sweetheart. She has a big heart and that's why she didn't have any problem about playing the nice neighbor. So many moving pieces here and yet the story didn't get too heavy. The suspense part kept it intriguing. While the people are having fun and frolicking in the beach and flirting..they never moved the focus away from the serious danger ahead. The slow burn was so good. Robbie wanted to keep all attention to the girls and the case but Lily's sweetness and sassy sides was like a magnet. Lily tried to keep it professional too but it's hard to NOT fall for someone like Robbie. I enjoyed how the author ties all the loose ends and they took down the bad men together. Tim's Shakespeare innuendos and Billie's playboy personality were entertaining. I am not sure Lily's partner Sheila is my favorite person but that's because she is always trying to be the voice of reason and I wanted Lily to fall fast.
This romantic comedy was so much fun! It is filled with laughter, family bonding, and suspense!
Robbie and Lily are the main characters in the story. A officer and an FBI agent on an undercover job, although Robbie is totally unaware of Lily's identity. Robbie is charged with protecting his young cousins as their "Dad," while Summer/Lily investigates her primary case interest, who happens to be Robbie's cousin and mother to his younger cousins.
I cannot fail to mention the banter! It is absolutely amazing! It makes the relationship's slow burn worthwhile. Their chemistry was spot on, and everything flowed smoothly and naturally. The suspense/mystery components combined with the romance pushed the book along quickly.
What to expect: ☀️Grumpy x Sunshine 🕵️♀️Hidden identities 🐚Forced proximity 🪪 FBI/Cop 🔥 Slow Burn
This delightful beach read has it all: cute children, a sneaky cat, and a slow-burning romance. You will not be disappointed!
Thank you to author Ava Miles and Hambright_PR for an advanced reader copy. All opinions are my own.
When I read the blurb I was so excited, this sounded hilarious and like a unique premise for a romance. It was very funny and I loved the concept, but it was such a slow build that I couldn’t get into it. I don’t know if it was because it was told in third person or if I just didn’t connect with the characters enough. I kept having to stop and think who each character was (the girls because of their aliases and the guys because I didn’t get enough of a sense of who they were.) There were great elements though- the kids are cute and the cat was perfection. It would work well for someone who likes third person or who likes a realllly slow burn. It just wasn’t me.
2.5 rounded up for GR
Thank you to Ava Miles and Hambright PR for the early review copy.
Thank you Hambright PR and Ava Miles for the ARC copy of this amazing book!!
This book is so fun to read. I always love a good grumpy vs sunshine book. And there was so much to love about this story.
The way Robbie and his brothers took care of the daughters of their cousin was so cute!!! Robbie was so overprotective (for good reason) and together with his 2 brothers he tried to give the two girls there best “vacation” of their life. The mother of the girls was in trouble and there were all in life danger. But the mother protected her girls in the best way possible. And little did she and Robbie know that the fun and pretty girls from next door were FBI agents!!!
I really enjoyed this book and definitely recommend it! It is a perfect past paced book full of cute scenes, humor and a sparkle of spice and perfect for rom coms readers!
This was such a cute read. I enjoyed Robbie “fake dad” and the whole scenario he had to take on for his nieces, after his sister Tara had to go on the run.
And the gorgeous neighbor Summer next door, who just so happens to be assigned to dealing with their situation.
The book is great. The banter is top notch. The storyline is on point and I really enjoyed the characters.
Thank you to @hambrightpr & the author for the ARC.
HAPPY PUB DAY! This book was the PERFECT summer read! It gives off romcom and a little action vibes. Robbie was the perfect “fake dad!” I also LOVED the grumpy sunshine vibes! And how cool that this was set in NC- where I live now! Thank you so much to Hambright PR and Ava Miles for this ARC! People are really gonna like this one!
I did enjoy this book but didn’t find anything so great about it. It was a good book and it’s perfect for the summertime reading. If you’re looking for a fun romcom for this summer, you need to add it to your tbr!!
This was such a fun little read! Robbie is by far the best fake dad. He tries so hard and it's so sweet. And the girls are so adorable! I was here for all the family vibes. Robbie's brothers were a good time too! I loved all their personalities. Summer was also a great character and the way both her and Robbie fell hard for each other was so cute! I can't really say what the book is about because there would be alot of spoilers but I definitely recommend picking this one up!
For me who does not read contemporary romance often, this definitely hit the right marks for all good reasons. It's fluffy and angsty and the banters are just fun to read!
This was such a fun read! It felt like putting on a good rom com- it had me hooked from the start and made me laugh out loud. Robbie’s cousin gets caught up with the mob and needs to go on the run. He takes on the responsibility of pretending to be his two nieces dad. Being a grumpy cop, he’s determined to help his cousin and has a lot on his plate, so the last thing he expects is to crush on the girl next door. Lily has secrets of her own. She’s also in law enforcement and she’s investigating whether Robbie’s cousin, Tara, is involved with the mob as well. Sparks fly, along with hilarious banter, and you know how it goes!
I loved the side characters and can’t forget Miss Purrfect! It felt like a “found family” and together they were all funny yet supportive to the cause.
Book Reveiw: A Very Unshakespeare Romance ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Author: Ava Miles @avamiles A Big Thank you to @hambright_pr and @avamiles the gifted copy of this most adorable book.
Robbie’s cousin contacts him because she is in trouble with the mob, Robbie is at work for being a police officer and he gets the next day delivery envelope via UPS. It has a return address of Boston is from his cousin Tara. Tara wants him to go get her babies and pretend he’s her father. Robbie not only ends up taking care of the kids, but he also their cat “Miss Perfect. Robbie also has a new neighbor Summer. Robbie finds her very intriguing and interesting. The chemistry between the two is hot. Robbie will now need to navigate between being a single “dad”, a police officer and trying to romance the new neighbor. Robbie tries to protect Tara’s kids from the MOB and clear her name. After a little bit he realizes that something is also not right about Summer the new neighbor, could she be after the kids? Robbie finally finds out who Summer really is and it seems that both of them have been hiding who they really are. You know “A Rose by any other name doesn’t always smell as sweet.” Will all work out for Robbie and Summer? Will Tara be cleared of any wrong doings and get her kids back? Got to read it to find out and enjoy chapter 18 when you get to it.🌶️🌶️
Oh, by the way Robbie’s younger brother Tim is outstanding and his knowledfe of Shakespeare is excellent. I hope Ava Miles’ next book centers around Tim. The Brothers are great and the love they shows for the littles just hit me in the heart.
I was immediately sold at grumpy x sunshine; one of my favorite tropes. And, boy oh boy, I was not let down. I was able to read this book while on my beach vacation and that really upped the enjoyability (so YOU, go take a vacay and read this book...you deserve it)!
This book is so light-hearted and truly makes you laugh-out-loud (my nephews were side-eyeing me a few times while I was reading). The banter between Robbie and Summer was absolutely fantastic; plus their overall chemistry was *chef's kiss.*
Thank you @hambright_pr & @avamiles for the copy. All thoughts are my own.
What a fun and unique story! 𝐀 𝐕𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐔𝐧-𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐑𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐛𝐲 𝐀𝐯𝐚 𝐌𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐬 is unlike anything I’ve read before- equal parts crime thriller and vacation rom-com, this somehow delivers both on danger and intrigue, tender moments, and laugh out loud ones too. Jam packed with tropes I love- grumpy sunshine, vacation romance, forbidden, forced proximity, A Very Un-Shakespeare Romance has all of the fun charisma and comedy of errors vibes we adore from the Bard, with all of the epic page turning intrigue of the dramas.
Broody cop Robbie finds himself taking his uncle duties to the next level as he heads on a vacation with his nieces to protect them when their family finds themselves in danger. A task that has him crossing paths with the sunshine Lily, his vacation neighbor and undercover FBI agent who just so happens to be involved in a case bringing down the family putting his at risk.
There’s a lot of suspense/mystery and a big dangerous overarching plot, but we also have loads of funny secondary characters, a slow burn chemistry, tons of banter, and romcom vibes juxtaposed to crime drama. The Irish brothers and Lilly’s partner are loads of fun, and of course the adorable nieces. And I’m always a sucker for a scene stealing cat. It’s a really slow burn (it took me a while to get into because I’m used to a faster romantic pace) and the spice is pretty low, by my metrics at least LOL. But the chemistry is great.
It’s been a minute since I’ve read a story told from third person POV, which took me a minute to adjust to (might also have been why it took me longer to sink into the story)- and truthfully it’s not my narrative preference, but overall the story was heartwarming and sweet. Even with the heavier danger, the story still felt light and beachy, and the comedy was gold. This really gave me movie vibes- and I think it would be just as entertaining on the big screen.
Overall: 3.5 stars
☀️Rom com x crime thriller (on the lighter side) ☀️grumpy x sunshine ☀️Hidden identity (undercover FBI Agent, fake single dad) ☀️FBI agent x cop ☀️Romantic Suspense ☀️Vacation vibes ☀️3rd person narrative
This read is a whimsical delight of romance and intrigue! “A Very UN-Shakespeare Romance” by Ava Miles is a delightful standalone rom-com that dances on the edge of calamity, sprinkled with humour, heart, and a touch of whimsy. Miles weaves a tale that captures the essence of love, family, and unexpected connections.
Meet Robbie O’Connor. He’s a police officer who finds himself in an unusual predicament: pretending to be a single dad to protect his cousin's two baby girls and their cat, Miss Purrfect. With danger lurking, Robbie's focus shifts to their new neighbour. Meet Summer. There's more to her than meets the eye, and secrets abound. As Robbie navigates this tangled web, he discovers that love can bloom in the most unexpected places.
Robbie, our grumpy yet endearing hero, is a refreshing departure from the typical romance lead. His vulnerability and determination make him relatable. Summer, the sexy neighbour, brings sunshine and mystery to the story. And let's not forget Miss Purrfect, the silent judge who steals every scene.
Miles' prose sparkles like sunlight on dew-kissed grass. Her witty banter and clever dialogue keep the pages turning. The pacing is spot-on, balancing romance, suspense, and laugh-out-loud moments.
The chemistry between Robbie and Summer crackles. Their interactions are both tender and sizzling. As secrets unravel, the stakes rise, and the reader is left guessing until the very end. The Shakespearean references add a layer of charm, making this romance truly unique.
“A Very UN-Shakespeare Romance” is a gem. It’s a blend of grumpiness and sunshine, wrapped in a cat-shaped bow. Miles has crafted a story that reminds us love can bloom even in the most unexpected circumstances. If you're in the mood for a heartwarming romance with a twist, this book is a must-read!
A Very Un-Shakespeare Romance is so hilarious! If this were a series instead of a book, you will see just how awesomely cute these characters are!
Robby O’Conner finds himself on one of the biggest cases in his police career; pretending to be his cousin Tara’s father to his little girls. All because she got caught up in dirty money not belonging to her, forcing her to go on the lam. So now Robbie is caring for Regan and Cassidy and a cantankerous cat named Miss Purrfect, while also trying to figure out how to get goons from making their move on his cousin. What could go wrong?
Quite a bit when Robbie finds himself drawn to Summer Sunshine, who has a few secrets of her own.
This book was so hilarious without being over the top! There was a tight knit family, there was a partnership that was also a sisterhood and throw in a menacing cat into the mix. Every thing in this book flowed.
Lily and Sheila both have a great working relationship, but they also have a bond like sisters. While Sheila is tough as nails, Lily has a heart and truly cares, especially where the young children Robbie is caring for comes in.
Ava did great making Tim the quirky younger brother with great knowledge in Shakespeare. If she writes another book featuring these characters, make Tim the MMC. He stole so many scenes.
I liked that before starting the book, Ava shared her thanks with those who helped her with the knowledge of law enforcement.
I enjoyed Robbie and Lily’s banter either way one another. I, however, loved how the O’Conner brothers loved on those little girls. Reagan and Cassidy won my heart over. When you read how those girls love those guys, you just melt.
Thank you so much Ava for letting me read the ARC to this cute non-Shakespearean romance.💕
What an adorably, thrilling read! I had no idea what to expect from this story but I got way more than I could have imagined!
Robbie is the by the book cop who is thrown for a loop when his cousin needs him to pretend to be his niece's father while they all go in to hiding. Her ex husband has put them in a big mess and she needs them all safe. All, including her terror of a cat, Miss Purrfect. Robbie will do anything for his family and he immediately takes action to get the kids out of town and safe. Meanwhile, Lily and her partner are already on the case and trying to determine if Robbie's cousin, Tara, is involved. They go undercover at the vacation home next to Robbie, his brother, and the kids, in hopes to get closer to them and get some info on the situation. But neither Robbie nor Lily expect it to be anything more.
The instant chemistry between Lily and Robbie was so fun, their banter and quick wits mixed in the the O'Connor brothers and Sheila has me cracking up. Robbie's brother's, Tim and Billie, added so much fun to the story along with Lily's partner Sheila. It was like an instant family connection for them all and I loved that. I really enjoyed how everyone, even these two strangers, put the kids safety as priority until their mom could come back. I was on the edge of my seat most of this story hoping that all would end well and everyone would be safe. Ava Miles did such a fantastic job of making this story very comical but also thrilling at the same time. This was the perfect summer rom com/suspenseful romance.
Thank you HambrightPR and Ava Miles for the advance copy in exchange for my honest review!!
This was my first Ava Miles read, and I very much enjoyed it! The premise was really fun, and I think took what could have been a regular thriller and made it into a rom-com with a bit of romantic suspense. Robbie is a Boston cop who’s cousin is the target of some bad people because of her husband. Robbie takes her kids to the Outer Banks so that they’re safe, and in a way goes undercover as a fake dad, bringing along two of his brothers to assist him in taking care of the two girls. To add more to the mix, the girls staying next door are actually undercover FBI Agents working on the same case, just from a different angle. So the two are lying to each other about who they really are, but end up falling for each other anyway as not everything is a lie. The way they act around the kids, the stories they tell, the touches shared and the feelings felt.. It’s all real. They just have to get the mom Tara, and her two kids to safety before they can really start thinking about them. These two had trouble in their previous relationships because their partners didn’t really understand their lifestyle. I think the fact that these two have the same job practically makes them perfect for each other as they understand when secrecy is needed and that it’s not personal. They are both loving individuals who sacrificed so much for the job, they deserve the love each other is willing to give. The side characters were extremely lovable, especially Tim and Billie; they are so different in personality and I loved Tim’s Shakespeare shtick.
Thank you Hambright PR for my physical copy of the book!
✨✨✨✨✨✨ This book was seriously so good and such a lighter read for me. Overall it had me giggling and deeply caring about so many of the characters. The authors writing was done so well I could picture everything happening as I was reading! Robbie I quickly end up loving his character and wow the way he really did drop everything to drop the ones he loves. That was everything. While on “vacation” protecting his nieces he meets the perfect Miss Sunshine, which couldn’t come at a worst time for Mr. By The Book. The thing with Love it doesn’t care when it shows up. Overall I loved this book!
Miss Purrfect had to be one of my fav side characters 🤣 giving all that trouble to Robbie had me laughing.
📚📚📚 If you like to read: - Beach Read - Small Town Romance - Forced Proximity - Rom-Com - Grumpy x Sunshine - Hidden Identity - FBI/Police Officer … You should definitely check this out
📚📚📚
Thank you so much for sending me a copy for an honest review in my own words.
✨What’s the last Grumpy X Sunshine book you’ve read?
🤍Hidden identity 🤍Secret agent (FBI) x Cop 🤍Romcom
Robbie O’Connor is a police officer and one day he received a letter from his cousin, Tara, implying that she’s on trouble. He became fake single dad to Tara’s daughters to protect them. He brought them to safe place with his two brothers and that’s when he meet his neighbor, Summer. He felt something for her but his situation isn’t right for vacation fling.
First time i saw the cover, the handcuff had me wondering what the book is all about. Until I read that scene oh gosh! Robbie is the best MMC when he’s willingly do anything for his cousin and jump to protect the girls. I love his interaction with them and also with his brothers Tim and Billie. Enter Summer and her friend Sheila, they make the story even more enticing and i like how they keep professional while doing undercover.
I adore Summer and Robbie, their chemistry is totally off charts. When finally the secrets revealed, i love that it didn’t take too long for Robbie to accept the truth and go with Summer’s plan to clear Tara’s name.
I laughed, I smiled and I swooned read this one. Fast paced book with humors and sprinkle of spice, perfect for rom coms lovers!
I had a blast while reading this one! Thank you to Hambright PR & Ava Miles for sending me a PR package for A Very Unshakespeare Romance.
This book is the perfect read for summer. It has it all: summer vibes, grumpy x sunshine , undercover FBI x Cop plus a slow burn laugh out loud romcom with light spice.
Robbie our MMC & our grumpy cop. Family means everything to him and when his cousin Tara is in trouble and leaves her two young daughters in his protection pretending to be their “Dad”. He leaves town with his two brothers, the girls along with the girls cat and head to a small town for a family vacation.
Lily our FMC, she works for the FBI and is tasked with protecting Tara & her daughters. Follows Robbie & goes undercover as Summer to help. Unknowingly that she & Robbie would hit it off.
I loved the banter between Lily & Robbie. They work together, a match made in heaven. And not to mention the beef Robbie has with the cat is honestly the funniest part of the novel. Plus we get light spice with laugh out loud moments. The handcuff scene was top notch!
Ava’s writing is easy to understand and extremely entertaining. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a light hearted comedy for the summer!!
This is a romantic, stand alone comedy set in Boston and The Outer Banks. Ava Miles brings us a fun, summer, beach read that will keep you guessing and laughing at the same time. This is Robbie and Lily's story.
What happens when you get a letter from your cousin, telling you she is in trouble and needs you to keep her 2 children safe? You get this book right here. Robbie is the best man for the job. I mean he is a tough Boston PD Lieutenant and he takes his job and his family seriously. He takes off with the kids to The Outer Banks in order to keep them safe. He enlists the help of his 2 brothers and they figure it will be a fun 2 weeks vacation. What they don't expect is to have 2 beautiful women rent the house next door. Robbie is falling for "sunshine" and he is falling hard. What he doesn't know is they are undercover FBI agents who are hoping to solve the biggest case of their career. Will the secrets ruin everything or will they wok together to solve the case?
This is such a fun read that will keep you on your toes rooting for both Robbie and Lily. There is great banter and fun dialog that will keep you rolling. The brothers and their love for each other is strong but the antics and one crazy cat keep the story fresh and delightful.
When his cousin sends him a letter saying she is in trouble with the mob and he needs to take care of her kids, he goes running to protect them. Once he gets the to safety, he notices his sexy neighbor, Summer. Any other time she would be perfect, but right now he has bigger things to deal with. Caught up in a tangled web of lies, Robbie sets out to untangle it and save his cousin.
Ava Miles writes some fun and entertaining books, and this one is most definitely that. I loved Robbie right from the start when he rushed to his cousin’s aide and had to become the best pretend dad he his nieces and niece cat he could. Ava writes in such a way that you are right there on this journey with the characters, experiencing things with them along the way. It’s such a fun way to get to experience a story. Robbie and Summer’s romance was on point! Their chemistry was just top-notch and nothing short of believable. It just felt so real and natural. This book reminded me of another cozy style mystery that I just adore, and it’s gone on to be an awesome series…so maybe this will be a series as well and we’ll get to spend more time with these characters.
Thank you to @hambright_pr and @avamiles for this e-arc, all thoughts are my own.
