A stolen shipment of military hardware. A Russian mercenary group operating on American soil. Compromised nuclear launch codes.
But whose finger is on the trigger?
Kade’s got little time to piece together the mystery inherited from his former Russian asset. But as he recuperates from his injuries, he soon discovers he’s the one who has been assigned a handler.
He’s put on the hunt for the stolen shipment of missiles. A small part of an arsenal being assembled for an unknown purpose. When the trail leads him to a ghost from his past, he’s drawn back into a war he thought he’d left behind in the ashes of Fort Black.
The deep cover assignment threatens to unravel his quest for justice. And the son of Hiram Black might finally be forced to reclaim his broken throne.
Danger, depth, and discovery. I'm an independent fiction author and vagabond travelling the US looking for adventure. As an author, I've dabbled in horror, science fiction, and fantasy. Even landed a small role with a Hollywood studio along the way.
But as a former government agent, I kept running across books about former government agents wandering the country in pursuit of justice.
I decided not to be a cliché.
Then, someone stole my Jeep. And I just *had* to get it back....
New Vigilante Justice series incoming 2023. Stay tuned!
There’s a war coming. One nobody can win, only survive.
"Roundhouse", author Russ Linton's quinary offer in his thrilling Fort Black series, may be the most brutal of the group yet. As we continue to check off the different scumbags that our hero could run into, over, and through along the way, this time there is definitely no gray zone in terms of right and wrong, though getting from one to the other may involve questionable actions at best. And the ultimate mystery of who all these twists and turns are being manipulated by and for remains as intriquing as ever. Poor Kade Black continues to carry the day at the cost of his health, his beliefs and maybe even his sanity. Yep, he - and poor Hindy, too - continue to take a ton of punishment even while doing their best to dole it out in spades! He was going into another hopeless battle. Story of his life.
I guess at this point I should probably apologize to the author for the delay in my reading of this final edition. It's only that I got to see a preview of this book prior to its finalization and I wanted to have some "space" for my immediate reaction to fade slightly (translation: I wanted my old guy brain to have a chance to forget some parts!). But honestly, I'm really struggling right now to decide if I'm more impressed with the complex and breath-taking story the author has delivered or if my kudos should be reserved more for seeing just how much of a quantum leap the entire tale took after he took it back for some fine-tuning. Either way, this is a ride that you won't want to miss. I mean, look at me: even without superheroes or zombies or crytpids or all manners of aliens and their robotic allies being present, I just can't get enough. Truly action-adventure at its finest! People do terrible things. You do them back. Who am I to judge?
I am also going to assume it's not too much of a spoiler to indicate that Kade did in fact survive his self-inflicted radioactive poisoning that took place at the end of the last chapter. Exactly how that transpired is still a bit nebulous but needless to say he somehow makes a recovery, arguably miraculous at that. But there's no rest for he who fights the wicked, as things take off almost immediately. New - and nasty - enemies galore and what's worse, even an old demon resurfaces. Mentioning same: some of the flashback parts of this story to make all that happen are absolutely spellbinding! Seeing young Kade and old(er) Kade in parallel situations is worth the price of admission alone! Instead of rules and regulations, demons from his past threatened to derail this case.
But man-o-man things are getting complicated! I'd like to think this time I managed to pick up on some foreshadowing along the way. Was it though? Or just yet another in a long series of preparing us for "well I didn't see that coming" situations? I know despite trying to follow along with Linton's train of thought that I'm not doing very well in terms of my own prognostications being even close to what winds up transpiring. Still, that just makes things all that much more fun when things start going kablooey and the bad guys find various appendages lying a good distance away from their bodies! Hey, I warned you it was brutal! The strong make the law. Justice is whatever the hell they want it to be.
Folks, I can't really add much more than just to say this is top-notch action-adventure at its best! I don't know what your genre of choice might be, but there's something here for everyone! I mean, even the ol' dried up and stale heartstrings were thrumming away in parts this time! And the fact that we span the full spectrum of good and evil along the way, with no one coming away unscathed in some way is pure excitement distilled to its finest form! But for now, it's time to hit the road again because it looks like we're heading to… [signal lost]
