Rate this book
In the quaint coastal town of Willow Cove, Georgie Carpenter returns to take over a bakery, only to discover that the sweet deal comes with an unexpected twist—a husband.

Royal “King” Kingston, overwhelmed with balancing surf lessons and the responsibility of his late uncle’s struggling bakery, is shocked by Georgie’s return from the big city to his little town. Though she’s renowned as a pastry chef and could save the bakery, King can’t shake the memories of her rejection of his proposal a decade ago. Yet faced with the ultimatum of losing his uncle’s legacy or handing it over to the woman who broke his young heart, King reluctantly agrees to her help.

However, there’s a catch—the bakery can only be passed down to family. Georgie suggests a a temporary marriage to facilitate the transfer of ownership. With no strings attached, they can part ways once the paperwork is done. King is reluctant but agrees to the plan out of necessity.

But as their temporary arrangement evolves, both Georgie and King confront unexpected emotions and realize that what they bargained for may be more than they ever imagined. Will their makeshift marriage lead to a second chance at love, or will past insecurities tear them apart once again?

Ehh I really didn’t love this one😔 The main reason is the length! It was sooooo short and just felt too fast. Like the reader never got a sec to just kinda chill in one scene or event, it was always just moving on…I don’t like marriage of convenience, this book just proves why lol. It just doesn’t make sense and the way it was introduced was totally casual and didn’t add anything to the story. I literally almost missed the fact that they were getting married😅😭 Plus it was obvious that they were both still in love from day 1, so that was literally never going to work lol. I read another one of Dana’s books and I really liked it, so I was super excited to read this one, but it was unfortunately a let down☹️ The writing just felt very simple and surface level too yk? On the bright side, it did have some super sweet parts! The baking and surf lessons were adorable, and the mutual pining was def a plus🥰 I loved the small town setting, and I loved how they grew and learned how they wanted to do things together. Oooh and Prince Harry the llama was a totally amazing addition! 😍🦙All in all, this was a (super) quick but cute summer romance!

-Coop
-Cecily
-Three rings 😂
-“Never let it be said that I don’t fight fair.”
-Morning hugs
-The letter ✉️
-The whole ending!

I loved how much heart and healing is within this story right along with banter and fun. It is a great kick-off to the Sweet Coastal Kisses multi-author series!

I loved this second chance, marriage of convenience story! The author did a great job of showing how broken hearted King was when Georgie ran from his proposal ten years earlier. So, agreeing to a marriage of convenience was not something that he wanted to do. I liked that these two begrudgingly entered into this agreement in order to solve the troubles that the bakery was facing.

And, of course, my favorite moments came as King realized that his love for Georgie had never stopped. The way these two acknowledged their feelings and openly started working toward being more to each other was perfect!

This is a cute summer read set in a small town. I enjoyed this marriage of conscience, second chance story involving tension and heartbreak from 10 years ago as well as humorous moments. Prince Harry the llama's antics is a great addition to this story. Perfect beach read.

“You want to get married so you can buy a bakery. Do you have any idea how crazy that sounds?” “People get married for far less.”

Dana LeCheminant kicks this series off with a fantastic bang to the heart. Willow Cove, located on the coast of South Carolina, gave me all the small town beachy vibes and I couldn’t get enough, especially of the deep connection to family and tradition. An enemies-to-love involving a bakery, plays on royal names, a persnickety swimming pool dwelling llama, and a marriage of convenience won me over from the very first chapter.

This author knows just how to write the perfect balance of prickly resistance and swoony banter, and the introduction to future books characters was the filling of a macaron. I laughed at so many things, but others pierced my heart just a little, and overall, I was completely satisfied. I loved swimming in these pages and can’t wait for the next book in the series.

Another masterpiece from Dana LeCheminant! I didn't want to put this one down and ended up reading it in 2 days. It was romantic, funny, and heartwarming! A perfect summer read!

King is overwhelmed after his uncle dies with not only running his surfing business but also his Uncle's bakery. The bakery was his uncle's legacy and he can’t seem to give either one of them up. Georgie is a famous pastry chef but after a bad public break up on her TV show with her fiance Lane she returns to Willow Cove, with the hopes of taking over the bakery. It was the place she learned to bake and fell in love with not only baking but also King. She discovers that owning the bakery comes with a stipulation that it must be owned by family. A marriage of convenience seems like the perfect solution.

This was an amazing kick off to the Coastal Kisses series! The story was filled with heart and I completely fell in love with King and Georgie! I can’t count the number of times I smiled well reading this! It was well written and super fun but there was also growth and healing that came for both characters. There is a complicated history between these two that gave the story the perfect amount of tension. And oh my all those heated looks between them set the pages on fire! The attraction was definitely still there after all those years and I was here for all of it! I adored King’s character. He was such a good guy and his caring, vulnerable side made me love him more. I loved the way these two went from a business only marriage to wanting to share their days and what was on their minds with each other. This book was everything and it is one you don’t want to miss!

Things I loved:
Modern Marriage of Convenience
Small town summer vibes
She takes care of him
“I'm not complaining”
“Hope I didn’t just sign a contract with the devil.””I would never share you with the devil.”
Coop and Cecily
Ring shopping
Macrons
Shortcake
“She's my wife”
“You and King are Forever Goals”
The most perfect epilogue

I received a complimentary copy of this book but also bought a paperback for my shelf. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Oh my sweet summer vibes I adored this book! It’s the perfect novella to kick off your summer. ☀️ Second chance- marriage of convenience- joy!

King is a total smoke show! He may have his heart guarded but at least his abs are on full display. 😅

Georgie realizes that life without King wasn’t as fulfilling as she thought it would be when she was younger and afraid of commitment. Her journey of heartbreak and growth brings her back to the small town and the man who always held her heart. 🏄‍♂️♥️🧁

This may be a little book but was full of love, humor, and emotion in a big way. I look forward to reading the entire multi-author Coastal Kisses Series. 🥰

Loooove!!

Oh my gosh! I loved this book so much! For Butter or for Worse is a second chance/marriage of convenience story that will just steal your heart! I couldn’t put it down!

I loved the history between Georgie and King (the good and the bad), their nicknames for each other, the bakery, Uncle Bill’s memory, their “counseling” sessions, Prince Harry the llama, the banter, Coop, Cecily, the attempts to resist each other, and the chemistry between these two!!

So, so cute! I can’t wait for Coop’s story in the next book in this series!!

3.5 ⭐️ rounded up

Looking for a short, fast paced rom-com that will make you laugh from the first sentence? Here is it!

King is silently struggling with running his surf shop, being a surf instructor, and also now running his late uncle’s bakery, which is in need of some TLC. Before dealing with all of these things, King also had his heart broken years ago by Georgie.

Georgie is back in the coastal town for an escape. She used to come to town every summer with her parents and work in the bakery. When Georgie’s boyfriend broke up with her in a grand way, she went back to the place she loved, but there were unexpected changes.

This is King and Georgie’s second chance. We follow them as they navigate being in this coastal town together again & the ins and outs of what is involved with the bakery.

This story had me laughing out loud on multiple occasions. I enjoyed seeing the relationship development and how King & Georgie navigated reconnecting. The dual POV was so beneficial as you get to see the inner monologue of both characters since how they felt was not apparent through their actions. The story was also extremely fast paced! With that being said, there are some things I wish we got a bit more of, which is a good thing! I wanted so much more of Prince Harry (King’s llama) as he had me laughing out loud every time he appeared. I also would have loved to see more of the backstory, I was so intrigued by relationships with King’s Uncle and I absolutely loved the flashback of how King and Georgie met! I also would have loved to see how Georgie parents reacted since they spent the summers in this town as well and most likely knew the Kingston family fairly well. Overall, this story was on the shorter side and truly packed the most important pieces!

As far as content, I do have to mention that this story does include the one bed trope for those who may be uncomfortable with that. There are also scenes where intimacy is not blatantly discussed, but there is insinuation.

Royal "King" Kingston is trying to balance running his surf shop and his late uncle's bakery but both are suffering from only receiving part-time attention. King is a great surfing instructor, not so much at baking, but he can't give up the bakery--it was left to him by his Uncle Bill and according to the will, it has to be owned by a member of the family.

Georgie Carpenter, King's former girlfriend, comes to Willow Cove hoping to start over after losing her boyfriend and the job she loved in one fell swoop. She's got big plans for the small-town bakery, which are dashed when she discovers Uncle Bill has passed away and Royal can't sell the bakery to her because of the will. After some stress-relieving baking Georgie comes up with a brilliant idea--she and King can get married, he'll transfer the bakery to her (they'll be family) and then they can get divorced. Sounds like a crazy idea but will it work?

This second chance romance/modern-day marriage of convenience was a fun introduction to the quaint coastal town of Willow Cove and some of its residents. Because of the way Georgie left town several years before, her relationship with King has an enemies to lovers vibe, but you can feel their mutual attraction bubbling just under the surface.

Some things I loved:
🦙 Prince Harry's llama drama
🦙 Making macarons
🦙 Ring shopping
🦙 Leaky roof leading to one bed
🦙 Banter
🦙 Dual POV
🦙 The epilogue

This fun and flirty book has a lot of swoony moments and is the perfect summer read, so grab your copy and escape to this small South Carolina town. I received an advanced complimentary copy from the author, but also purchased a copy. All opinions in this review are my own.

This is a cute novella, a second-chance, marriage-of-convenience, beach rom-com. It’s short, so moves through the story and relationship at a fast clip. I wouldn’t call it rushed, though, and both MCs are well done.

There’s plenty of humor, and between Prince Harry, counseling sessions, and unfortunate names I found myself laughing out loud throughout. It’s light, but not fluffy. Short, but not without substance.

Recommended to those looking for a light and entertaining evening escape.

Content:
There is no foul language, sex, or violence. The romance is limited to lightly descriptive kisses. There is no mention of faith or God.

Trigger warning - death of a family member prior to the story.

Loved this one! Royal Kingston and Georgie Carpenter are so sweet, funny, and their enemies to lovers, second chance romance had perfect tension. With a mix of romance, grief, doubts and struggles with the future, and a funny llama named Prince Harry, this is the perfect beach read. Loved how Georgie brought out the best in Royal/King and how their marriage of convenience became true. Thanks to the author for my ARC; all opinions are mine.

It's funny to me, I always wonder how a modern marriage of convenience story coula work. Then, BAM! Books like this.soooooooo good.
Here's what I love:
incredible chemistry, beautiful attraction (but not only focused on the physical, "MY WIFE," and adorable, funny moments.
Seriously, the sparks between these two are perfection. The setting is adorable - and I mean, macarons and surfing? Who knew these two things could be so romantic?
Throw in a troublesome llama into the mix and you have one excellent beach, romcom - but with depth of heart.
Two thumbs WAY up!
I'm so looking forward to the rest of this series.

This was my first book by Dana and I have always seen great reviews for her books, so I was excited to read this one. Unfortunately, it was a miss for me. 😔

Second chance romance and marriage of convenience are two of my favorite tropes, but I did not feel like these were executed well in this story. The reason for getting married did not make sense and happened too quickly. The book was super short for a novel, and I feel like if there was a more compelling reason to get married, along with more depth to the story, the book would have been a lot better.

I liked King’s character and there were a few cute moments here and there, but overall, the length of the book and the very little time the couple actually spends together over the course of maybe 2 weeks just did not work for me.

If you’ve followed me for any length of time, you know I’m a BIG fan of @authordanalecheminant. Her newest novel hit the spot for me during what has thus far been a bust of a summer (quite literally).

I loved this second chance, marriage of convenience, found family romance com. I loved how the story managed to be light despite both main characters having heavy and traumatic backstories.

If you’re looking for your next beach read (or if, like me, you’re nowhere near a beach so you’re settling for hiding in the closet and eating chocolate while reading on your kindle), this is it!

3.5⭐️ It’s summer romance season! I didn’t enjoy this one as much as I was expecting, since it’s a marriage of convenience, but I still liked it.

The characters were sweet, the plot is pretty typical of a marriage of convenience, nothing new, and the small town setting was cute.

King is drowning in responsibilities, his old flame comes back after a decade, decides to take some responsibility for him (purchase his bakery that’s going under. But she needs to be a Kingston), and they get married so she can do that ha. Like I said, nothing new. Sometimes the circumstances of a marriage of convenience are like what? People would never. But that’s the fun of it most of the time. This one just felt a bit too silly.

I liked King and Georgie together. They had sweet moments. Surfing lessons, bakery food fight, he makes her macarons (so cute), a lot of fun summery things. They really were very wholesome. But at the same time, their relationship felt very surface level. No connecting on a deep level I feel like.

I will say it is a very fast book. Not just because it’s short in length, but because of the progression of the relationship. They fall back in love very quickly. With that pace, their relationship didn’t seem very realistic. They didn’t have great chemistry. They never hated each other, but it was from annoyed to fully in love, which felt like out of nowhere. It didn’t progress gradually.

With that said, it was still cute. It’s a quick summer read you could honestly finish in 2 sittings. It’s less than 200 pages.

Read if you enjoy:
- Summer vibes
- Dual POV
- Marriage of convenience
- Second chance romance
- One bed
- Forced proximity
- Small coastal town

Content 💋:
- Kisses only (implied intimacy between a married couple)
- No language

”King, I mean this with all the sincerity of our lifelong friendship: you’re an idiot.” Don’t I know it.

This summer romance is absolutely delightful! Life has been hectic and this was the perfect blend of hilarity and swoon to help the chaos!

Also, pet llamas should totally be a thing!

King proposed to the love of his life once. It didn’t go well seeing as it’s been 10 years since he’s seen her.

Georgie is really good at avoiding challenges in life until she can’t. Being dumped on live TV, it turns out, is inescapable.

When the bakery that means everything to both of them is in danger of closing forever, will they set aside their past and worth together?

Read this book if you like:

🦙 Baking
🦙 Small Towns
🦙 Coming Home
🦙 Wingmen
🦙 Therapist Best Friend
🦙 Bad Breakups
🦙 Pool House
🦙 Pet Llama
🦙 Nicknames
🦙 New Beginnings

Content: putting family first, navigating relationships, respecting boundaries, betrayal, very mild references to potential intimacy in marriage between a married couple, loss of loved ones, romance- kisses only.

- Cecily
- Picking out rings (I love the nod to Coop's story 🐢)
- Baking Macarons together
- Surfing lessons

This was such a fun story! I love the history that King and Georgie have. I love how they build their new relationship and move on from the past, especially with the help of Cecily and her marriage counseling!

Cecily is such a fun side character. I also loved getting to meet the friends that have their own books throughout this series. It will be fun to read their stories and see how they find love.

Okay, LOVED this one! Add it to your list immediately. It releases on Friday (6/7)!!!

Royal Kingston is shocked by the return of Georgie Carpenter to Willow Cove. After a decade of being away, she’s back and hoping to take over Kingston’s Bakery, a place she loved and was mentored at while growing up. Unfortunately for her, Royal (aka King) is now the owner of said bakery, and there’s definitely some bad blood between them.

As it turns out, for both of them to get things they desperately want and need— relief/more time/less responsibility for King, a job for Georgie— they need to get married. So they begrudgingly do. Except, you know, as it does, things play out differently than they anticipated, especially with Georgie’s friend Cecily involved.

You’ve got a second chance, marriage of convenience with a “that’s my wife” and a one bed moment. You’ll also get the antics of a hilarious llama so there’s that to convince you to read it too!

Favorite Quotes:
😂She grits her teeth as her eyes continue to take in the room. "Does the door have a lock?" "Nope." "What's to stop you from sneaking in here while I'm asleep?" "Self-respect, mostly."

🔥 When King doesn't answer, I turn my head to look at him and find him gazing at me with hungry eyes. Apparently his reservations of last night aren't nearly as strong as they were before. His expression is enough to catch the sheets on fire.
I can't stop the smile that curls up my lips. I'm very much enjoying that look in his eyes, but I'm also enjoying the sight of his muscled body limned in soft sunlight as he lies stretched out beside me. "You're trouble, you know that?" He brushes the back of his finger across my cheek. "You're beautiful." "I'm probably a mess." "I've always loved you more when you're a mess."

💍Lane scoffs. “She's not your wife." King and I hold up our ring fingers in unison, which makes me snort out a laugh.

💋 “I made the mistake of not communicating last time, and I'm not going to do that again. You deserve more." "More kissing? Yes."

DNF at 65%. The FMC was too much. All she thought about was herself and I hoped for her to change, but after 65% only caring about herself and what she wanted and not caring about King, I was done. The only redeeming quality was the llama.

It's normal to cry while reading a romcom, right? Because I definitely did while reading this one.

Maybe I'm getting old...

This book is SO GOOD. I love a good second chance romance anyway, what with the deep emotions and backstories with them. But when you add in a marriage of convenience? Yep. I'm all about that trope.

I really don't know what else to say. This book is the perfect prelude to the series.

“I’ve been trying to keep up with her since the day I met her, and being in her orbit has only ever made my life better.”

Fiercely, independent, talented Georgie returns to the quaint coastal town of Willow Cove to take over the local bakery. Only to her great surprise, Georgie discovers that the sweet deal comes with a rather unexpected twist-a husband. Calm and careful Royal “King” Kingston, overwhelmed with balancing surf lessons and the responsibility of his late uncle’s struggling bakery, is completely shocked by Georgie’s return from the big city to his little town. He can’t shake the memories of her rejection of his proposal a decade ago. Yet faced with the ultimatum of losing his uncle’s legacy or handing it over to the woman who broke his young heart, King reluctantly agrees to Georgie’s help. However, there’s a catch-the bakery can only be passed down to family. But as their temporary arrangement quickly evolves, both Georgie and King confront unexpected emotions and deeply realize that what they bargained for may be more than they ever imagined…

"You're a shooting star in a sky of people who are content to stay as they are. You're the reason I believed I could have more than the small life I’d been living."

This delightful story is a wonderful Summer kick off to the Coastal Kisses series. It has such heart and resilience weaved throughout, with endearing characters, that have such character growth and healing. A Marriage of convenience and second chance romance combined together is lovely, which adds in a great dimension of such angst, tension and, all the emotions! You can look forward to the unease of these character’s pasts, the stress of their fake marriage, the delightful laugh out loud humor with Prince Harry the Llama, and the sweet swoony romantic scenes! It’s a wonderful story worth reading, anytime!🩷

for butter or for worse
3.5 ✨

overview: so unrealistic but cute! Also there is an affectionate spitting llama named Prince Harry.

characters: this man’s name is Royal Kingston 💀 and he hates his first name so he goes by “King”… at least he’s aware of how ridiculous his name is, poor guy. Anyways, enough of bashing his name — he’s a sweetheart, despite his grumpiness (which is totally understandable).
Georgie is cute, though dramatic and a bit insensitive and selfish? I will say that’s it’s part of her character development though! She ends up being really sweet and all is well.

romance: y’all Georgie did a number on poor King — she messed him up baaaad. Not gonna lie, I think the breakup it was a bit much… but it’s called second chance romance for a reason! I don’t really think her reaction is justified — that’s where the part of her character flaws come in.
King fell for Georgie first, when they met as kids, and was head over heels; I think that’s why what Georgie did seems so much more cruel — reading his inner dialogue of his insecurities and trust issues he gained because of Georgie’s immaturity was sad.
They still had some cute moments that had me going: 🤭. My heart swelled every single time King said “my wife” 🥺 he’s literally so obsessed with her and falls for her again so quickly. It really has always been her for him.

I knew I wanted to marry her when I was sixteen because there was no way anyone else could come close to matching her. She was it for me.

But good glory my husband is attractive.

I’m overcome by how beautiful she is. I’ve always thought so, but I must have forgotten how it felt to gaze into those green eyes of hers and see everything.

I don’t know if anything will ever compare to her eyes. Windows to her incredible soul.

I’ve been trying to keep up with her since the day I met her, and being in her orbit has only ever made my life better. Who cares if I’m always following her instead of the other way around? If I have to follow her to the other side of the world, I’ll do it.
