Sanayah Hopkins is a sucker for a storybook romance. Her story unfolds just like her favorite novels, and the birth of her baby boy puts a stamp on her perfect life. However, a truth comes to light that no one saw coming, shattering the fairy-tale life she had been living.
Cole Leake plays about a lot, but Sanayah Hopkins isn’t one of them. When her heart breaks, he does everything he can to right every wrong. In his mind, he’s being a good friend, but his heart knows the truth, and it’s getting harder to hide.
Sanayah and Cole thought they shared an unbreakable friendship. This new adventure they’re on challenges everything they believe in. Are Sanayah and Cole capable of keeping things as they were, or will they succumb to their hearts’ desires?
I sensed something was off with Christian right away, but damn! The audacity! 👀 I can't believe this man was bold enough to do some f**k ish like that! Then his momma on that good bull ish too? Ughhh... 🤬
Poor Sanayah had to figure out the hard way that she got caught up with a wolf in sheep's clothing, aka a nothing ass man! All the while her bestie is right there in view, waiting in the wings for her to change her mind about them being together. This man loves your son like his own, your mother and brother love him, he pampers you and treats you like a queen. What the problem is? Focus girl and get yo man! 😤
Cole is an angel of a man! Although he comes from a trash ass family, he has a heart of gold. The way he looks after and takes care of Sanayah and Santana is everything! There is nothing he won't do for them. Now that he sees his window of opportunity opening again, he plans to seize it expeditiously! Their friendship is adorable; however, you could feel the deep love they shared.
That damn Christian showed his ass the entire read! I cannot believe he had the balls to do what he did! After clowning and playing in her face, this is what you do? Just throw him away and toss the damn key man! 🤬
Loved momma and how she kept everything together with her tough love. The ending was sweet. Perfect way to cap off a beautiful love story. Enjoyed this! 👍🏾👍🏾
Ms. Erika, it is so refreshing to read a story by you. It seems like it has been a while since I did. You made sure to bring the heat after your small hiatus. I have to say I loved Cole for Sanayah. He was her soulmate all along. Christian was a placeholder until her heart came back to her in human form. Christian was an interesting soul because it's not too many men who don't want their firstborn child, especially a son. Most men want a namesake and someone to carry their legacy. Cole picked up all the slacks that Christian created. He made sure that Sanayah and Santana had a roof over their heads, and food in their mouths, and lived a normal life. It was so obvious that Cole was Sanayah's protector when Sydney and Trent both made sure Sanayah and Santana went to Cole's house after her breakup. Cole also spent time and bonded with Santana. All in all, Cole was the man for Sanayah, and he didn't spare any expenses. He made sure to support Sanayah's career goals as well. He actually supported both Sanayah and Trent since they ran their business together. Cole was that dude, he married his best friend/soulmate as well as took a bullet for her. Sanayah had to take a journey to her destination, but her heart, mind, and soul thanked her for it.
Another fantastic read added to Ms. Erika's catalog. Grab your copy today because you want to experience this adventure that Sanayah and Cole go through.
This was really good. Firstly let me say Christian and his family 😡 me off soo bad like how do you not see that he’s a loser! It was very unfortunate that Sanayah had to endure so much until she got to a place of peace. And then we have my man Cole, this man did not play about Sanayah and Santana. He claimed them way before they claimed him. I really enjoyed this so much, one of my favorite tropes is friends to lovers. Erika B did a really good with this story. And this story is based in Maryland which sucked me right in.
I was sold at friends to lovers. Baby, Cole did not play when it came to Sanayah and Santana. He was everything they both needed. Christian was TRASH! The audacity of him to ask her what he asked her😳 I don’t want to give anything away, so just read it.
"You're engaged to man that you've been with for 8 years and recently gave birth to his baby. Things have been different since you gave birth but with the support of your family (twin brother Trent and your mother Sydney) and best friends Natalie and Cole -- you've been managing. When your fiance doesn't show up to the baby's 3 month doctor appointment... you get home to find yourself locked out of the apartment you share together and a note on the door..."
YALL. This was all a mutual on BookTok (livelovereadd 💕) gave in her synopsis and it was enough for me to NEED to know what was in that letter.
WHEN I TELL YOU I WAS NOT PREPARED! I could have thought of 101 scenarios from the mind of an avid reader what would have been in that letter... but what Christian THE AUDACITY Garrison said. I was outdone okay lol
This book is a fast past Novella that is a true lover-girl romance. It's marketed as "Friends to Lovers" but I'm going to keep it 100% funky. I didn't get that and I will tell you why: COLE LEAKES WASN'T NEVER THAT WOMAN'S FRIEND. THAT WAS HIS WOMAN IN HIS MIND BEFORE, DURING, AND AFTER CHRISTIAN lol Nothing about them or their interactions ever gave "friend" vibes. Not even a lil bit. lol Cole made it very clear he wanted her and all this "I was respectful of their situation in the beginning" he tried to feed us, I don't buy it lol I would like to see it lol
I literally made a game of counting how many times that man "kissed her forehead" in the period they were supposed to be "just friends" (at least 7!!!)... boy BYE! We all know what them forehead kisses was lol SEX ON STICK lol
I was thoroughly entertained by this novella. I would definitely recommend!
SN: I took a star off (ie. why it isn't a "perfect read" for ME) because this book did make me discover/solidify a book ick that I have. I hate when the MMC jokingly threatens to "beat" the FMC or the FMC jokes that "he would probably beat my ass." It's a personal trigger vs. a writing flaw, but it done over 3x in less than 200 pages so it became a bit much for me.
I just fell in love with these two! I did not want to put it down. The twist and turns that we went through was exactly what the story needed for it not to be predictable. Great love story!!!!
4 🌟 I needed something fast-paced to keep me outta a book slump, and Cole Leake was exactly what the doctor (or more so the librarian) ordered!
I really enjoyed witnessing Sanayah and Cole rekindle their teenage love affair, and the way Cole accepted Santana as his own despite the behavior, actions and AUDACITY of his deadbeat sperm donor was heartwarming in so many ways. Also, why every female character named “Tasha” gotta be messy and triflin' af!?! ...but I digress!
The banter and dialogue between Sanayah and Cole was so hilarious most of the time, and you could definitely see the depth of their friendship before romantic feelings developed. Nothing like a beautiful “friends to lovers” urban romance to reignite my love for reading when a book slump feels like it's coming on! Another win for a BRAE read.
This is a horrible example of what happens when you trick yourself into thinking a man wants you and you ignore the red flags which proves you are dead wrong!
Sanayah and Cole belonged together. But how she believe that evil Christian loved her, was beyond me. He disrespected this girl in every way possible! And she made excuse after excuse for him. The result was the end of this story was violent, bloody and super dangerous!
I love a good friends to lovers story! Cole was not playing behind his girl! That damn Christian deserved a good, old fashioned ass whooping. Would love to read a story about Trent!
A perfect friends to lovers second chance romance. Christian kept blowing my mind! Baby Santana has so much love. Cole never should’ve allowed Christian to have a chance with his lady!
Cole did it for me. I never would have believed he would be THE MAN. I enjoyed reading how he managed to go from best friend to lover. Great story. Exciting characters.
Star level: 4 stars Spice level: 🌶️ Trope: black love, “single mother”, friends to lovers, second chance, brothers best friend, jealous ex, instant connection, Trigger warnings: gun violence Fav quotes: ““A few things are about to change in this dynamic. Healing from the loss of your relationship is first up on the list. After that, I’m coming for my family. You and Santana are mine. Santana’s sperm donor doesn’t want anything to do with him. That’s perfect ’cause I got him for life. We’ll figure out how to get this man out of y’all’s lives for good, and when he is, it’s up!” About the book: this was a friends to lovers/ second chance/ brothers best friend all in one. Cole has been in love with Sanayah for foreverrrr it they had a little hiccup in the road and went separate ways. Sanayah ended up getting engaged to a no good fella but Cole still stuck around and was a great friend. Then Sanayah relationship with her fiancee changes when she has a baby that was just a mess. He should man up and told her how he felt instead of taking the coward way out. But I’m glad she had her village around to help her and show her love. Then With Cole showing her what love really is he truly step up for her and her baby. Now Cole family is trash especially that sister, I wish someone would’ve punched her. I’m glad Christian got what he deserved he also should’ve got punched. Overall I like this still short, quick, sweet, love story with a little drama
Before I get into how much I like this book, let me just say that Christian is scum. You hear me?! SCUUUUUMMMMM! And Cole’s whole family is trash. Throw the whole tree away. And Christian‘s mama can hop in the bin too. Now that that’s been said, let’s move on.
Cole and Sanayah were cute together. I really liked how self-aware Cole was and how he acknowledged he wasn’t the man that Sanayah deserved when they were younger. I also liked how easily Cole accepted Santana.
I absolutely loved Sanayah’s relationship with her mom, and Ms. Sydney was funny af. Sanayah also had a female best friend named Natalie who appeared randomly after about 90 pages. We don’t really learn anything about her though. Natalie only appears over the phone in two scenes (except at the end).
Any page that had Cole, Sanayah, and Trent on it was pure entertainment lol. When Trent was first introduced, I thought he was gon be on some “don’t date my sister” BS so I was prepared to not like him. Luckily, he wasn’t on that type of time. It had been known since childhood that Cole and Sanayah were end game. She just needed to quit playing.
This was an incredible friends to lovers story. I loved how Cole loved on Sanayah and did everything in his power to make her life easier even when she was with someone else. These two had such an amazing friendship and chemistry that aided in their relationship being so strong. I was happy to see them finally get there happily ever after.
Christian can rot for his actions and antics and I hope Cole learned to love his toxic family from a distance because they did not mean him any good. If I could say one thing to Christian, it would be one word… vasectomy. If I could say anything to Cole’s family, it would be to have some accountability and treat people how you want them to treat you.
This was a read that I would recommend for a good friends to lovers story even though Sanayah may get on your nerves, she was such a sweetheart and Cole was everything a woman could want in a man from the way he loved, provided and protected his lady.
THE Letter... Boy if you thought you knew what this story was about, guess again!
San had the most trash baby daddy known to man.
Sanayah and Cole had so much history between the two of them and I was not expecting their past to be like that. they definitely has a very complicated friends to lovers story and everything happened exactly the way it was supposed to. They needed that time to mature and grow into the person they both needed from each other.
It was definitely a breath of fresh air to see a FMC be so close to their mom, she was definitely her 'real' bestfriend. Sydney was one of my favorite parts of the book.
Oh the audacity of Christian had me HOTTTTTTT! Like I couldn't believe him, that man was grade one delulu. Between trash Christian and garbage Tasha, I wanted to slap both of them! They were both truly scum. Santana deserved better and he definitely got it!
The intrigue with the latter makes this book a definite MUST READ! Like immediately.
This was a good read. I’m a sucker for a single parent troupe or baby/kids within a book anyway. I enjoyed reading about how these two friends turned lovers to friends learned to navigate their new dynamics without disrespecting their current situation. But what do you do when your mind and heart are not on the same page about how to move forward? That’s what this book is about to me. Once a decision has been made you have to stand on business behind that decision no matter what because every action counts. Now I thought we would get more information about the brother but we didn’t though I would have loved that too. As far as Christian is concerned, a freaking mess. Spoiled Adult Baby who has the audacity of a giant. He deserved some street justice in my opinion along with Chris people but hey that’s just me.

Cole and Sanayah have been best friends for a long time. Sanayah knows she can count on Cole for anything she needs and Cole doesn't play about her. When Sanayah's trifling fiance gives her an ultimatum, Cole knows this is the time for him to show Sanayah what a real man does in a relationship. Cole and Sanayah are 🔥🔥🔥 together once they cross the line from friends to lovers. I just loved how Cole claimed Sanayah and Santana for his own. There were so many people that I couldn't stand in this book; Christian, the so-called fiance, and Cole's parents and sister especially. I was glad Christian got what he deserved in the end because he was a true nut. This was such a good friends to lovers book that didn't disappoint at all.
This was honestly boring, it had potential to be a good story, it just was not written well at all. Sanayah was a ditzy idiot. More was needed about Coles family, probably would have made this better. The whole Christian shooting Cole thing came out of left field since he was mostly talked or thought about but very few real interactions, made it unrealistic. The same way he acted out in court, he would have been held in contempt. This was a very basic cookie cutter type of story.
Cole and San was friends and shared a lot of first things together, but things happened and eight years had went by and she was engaged to someone else. Christian was no good and didn't want a baby but didn't say anything so he her out with the baby and Cole was there for them. Cole's was crazy as you know what was jealous of his relationship with San's family but he didn't care about that for the way he was treated. Christian, Tasha, his Dad and Mom was crazy.
I liked this book. It was sweet and cute. I just needed more detail. I feel like with the shooting scene more detail would’ve been great. Also sex scenes weren’t described at all and that would have added to the book. But overall, I loved Yah and Cole. I even loved Trent. (I don’t be liking when twins don’t have similar names though). But even Santana stole my heart. These characters were everything especially their mom cause she was a character!
being a DMV native this story holds a piece of home which made this book more enjoyable for me. Sanayah’s story line is one that i can almost relate to. as single mom myself and literally going through that with my own childrens father in the past has shown me what i have known all along. Cole You a real one my boy! oh my god! i love Cole and his relationship with Sanayah and Santana and their family . i look forward to having my Cole one day
This was a great story, best friend becoming lover . Then they become separated for both friends to grow up and become lovers, with a lot of drama from all directions. They did receive their happy ever after. Thankfully that I saw the Facebook's post. Great recommendation.
Whew!!! This book was so good!! Cole was so in love with Saniyah that he made sure to show her, even though she was with someone else. When Saniyah’s world is destroyed by her trifling “man “ Cole steps in to take his rightful place as Saniyah’s man and the father to her son. Such an enjoyable and engaging story!!
Erica, as always a good read. To be able to have true love is something special. God allowed Sanayah and Cole to experience something special that many folk never get the chance to do. Even with the haters, they were able to overcome all of the messed up things they had to encounter. Love over rules all bad things.🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
I loved every part of Cole and Sanayah's love story! Erika B. did an amazing job of penning a beautiful romance between friends. I loved how Cole loved Sanayah and Santana. I was glad Christian got what he deserved.
Overall, I recommend this book and can't wait to dive deeper into Erika's Catalog!
