Artemis University #22

Restoring Harmony

Rate this book
My name is Tamsin Vale and I’m about to smack people around until they get in line… No, really this time because it almost cost Neldor his life. I refuse to let the lies, biases, and stupidity of the past ruin the future Faerie and her people could have. Not while I’m the damn boss. I knew I might not survive from the moment I swore to find out what happened to my people and stepped into Faerie. And I knew people could be lost in the battles others have taken up with me since. But if we lose someone to evil, that is the price paid for a better future. I refuse to lose someone to stupid. I won’t do it. Especially not when things have been so much better. And luckily, I have five men on my side who love and support me while giving me what I need to do what I must. Yes, it’s time to include Neldor in that even if I only admit it to myself. Artemis University is an ongoing, hot burning reverse harem, university-age paranormal academy series with darker elements, strong language, violence, and a heroine who follows her own moral compass of what is right… And who she ends up giving her heart to.
*This book is part of a series and cannot be read as a standalone. Like all my books, this is not light and fluffy and includes dark themes and events some may find triggering. Reader discretion is advised.

It's a love hate!

I love the characters and at 22 books in I'm obviously invested. The first half was better than the second! There are several issued with this book, a few errors and godsdaughter erm nope it's goddaughter I get the whole using the term God's because you don't want to upset other religions but there are just circumstances where the s shouldn't be used. Next issue once again the stupid hyphenated sentences. 40 hyphenated or ........ In one chapter. Really that's not necessary. Write the sentence or dont. It doesn't create a drama effect it actually makes for a very fractured and disjointed read. The good bits are great and that makes it even more frustrating the last issue would be the tangents that bring zero to the storyline. It's just pure waffle that doesn't make sense! Love the characters and the baseline for the story but bored with the weird style of writing and over explaining pointless stuff to stretch out the book.

Why is this still going on…

Oh and the unicorns are somewhat less ra$c!st so yeah.. there’s that.

306 pages later and not a single valuable plot point was made. This was 300+ pages of Tamsin being a hypocritical and condescending bully who thinks no one can actually be right aside from her. 22 books later and she STILL has issues in her relationships and continues to demonstrate that her emotional maturity got stuck around age 17.

I fell in love with this series for its unique and magical plot. I could hardly recall majority of the previous plot points because for the last 9 ish books we’ve focused on fighting the “bad guys” and eating.. So many sentences didn’t even make sense and the writing is beyond stilted, it likely would still be better heard as I can see it following a semi natural line of spoken conversation but reading half sentences is difficult to follow along.

Let’s not forget the r*c!$t unicorns. While the dark faerie unicorns were nicer there was still a weirdly large focus on how they’ve never seen anyone with “black” skin before…. Seriously why? Not only could this have used another round of editing but this series could do with a sensitivity reader as well.

I’m an optimist. Therefore, I keep going into these books hoping it will finally feel like the story I fell in love with in books 1-10. Sadly that has yet to be the case. Tamsin as an FMC needs actual character growth and the author needs to decide if she’s in or out of her relationships. There used to be so much tension and romance between everyone and now they look at her and she orga$!ms. Or she uses the guys for her s€xuaŁ gratification but won’t commit to them. That’s it.

Everything has gotten so boring and redundant. I keep coming back because I’m already so far in what’s the point in stopping but I almossssssst DNF’d this one. I honestly can’t wait for this series to be over.

**⚠️** there is also no real trigger/content warning page for this book and dark themes are discussed literally within a few pages into chapter 1. Im not someone who pays much attention and If you’ve come this far you’re familiar with the story but TW/CW are crucial for the mental health of readers! The author puts such a heavy focus on the topic in the story but doesn’t give her readers the same curtesy. The warning sentence had to be hunted down at the end of the book blurb.

All the feels with this one 🥹

This book was the healing balm my soul needed after all the shit that the characters have been thru in this series 😍 I cried so much from both sadness and happiness. Erin just has a way of writing the characters and their interactions that touches my heart.

I love the relationships between Tam and her guys after so much work and prior mistakes. I’m excited for the next steps for her and Nel and for her to fully reconcile with Darby. I also adore Tams relationship with her dad and their scenes give me all the feels 🥰 I’m going to be devastated when he makes his exit and am dreading it 💔 Additionally, it has been so beautiful to see Tams journey of coming into her role as the leader of Faerie and makes me excited for her future.

Nearing the end is so bittersweet b/c while I love this series and characters, I know it has to come to an end at some point and I am excited for our babies to finally get their HEA 🥹 Thank you so much Erin for this series and I’m always excited for whatever you choose to work on next! ❤️

equal parts relationship and political turmoil/progress

Everything seems to be trending in a positive direction for Tamsin! I don’t feel like anything major happened in this book, but the overall story needed to move forward and some loose ends needed to be tied up or at least made sense of and Erin accomplished that.
Tamsin is getting better at balancing the different threads of her life in a healthy way.

This truly saddens me but I didn’t finish this book and don’t think I’ll continue on with the series. I’ve had so much fun with it. I loved Tamsin and her mates and other side characters. The dynamics were so fun. What really drew me was the intrigue of the world. There was a lot of politics as she was hidden and then heir of faerie. I liked reading how tamsin was gradually rebuilding the world and systems in it. She was also changing the mindsets of people. Unfortunately now, I don’t see that much. It’s problem after problem which is a bit of a bummer. There aren’t many fun scenes imo that balance it out. And yeah it feels to me a “who’s on the outs now” with tamsin story. Tamsin was super good with Julian, then the outs, then back together, then black magic, and are now super strong. It’s a similar cycle with ALL the mates and I understand they can’t just be happy forever as it isn’t a story but to me it’s starting to feel a little repetitive and also worshippy. Tamsin never makes a mistake. People don’t get upset with her and even if they do, never for long. I think it just irks me that whatever she says goes and every stable relationship is getting shaken and I just don’t feel the plot in regards to her ruling faerie is progressing that much.

Storyline??

Are we finally getting back to the main story. Are you going to start getting characters growing?? I am still going with this series, but I am starting to lose my interest.

Please note the following review encompasses books 20 through 26 of the SERIES. As each book depends on the prior books, I am not reviewing each individually to cut down on repetition. Following this review, I will be one final review of my reading experience throughout all 26 books.

As always, I will endeavor to minimize spoilers, but please read at your own risk.

Ok, it's been 19 books, and I haven't really touched on the totally delicious guys in this series. Mostly, because I wasn't sure who was staying and who was going. Because believe you me, Tamsin has her choice of treats. But I want to talk boys for a bit.

Let's start with our dragon. Hudson is a dragon prince, and his dragon, River, is as sweet as pie. Both love Tamsin wholeheartedly, but Hudson needs to learn when and how to pull his head out of that place the sun doesn't shine. He makes more than his fair share of mistakes, but unlike real life, there is almost always a redemption opportunity. I was thrilled he took it.

Next, there's the sexy warlock professor, Julian Craftsman. He is quite literally too smart for his own good. I was ready to throw the towel in and look for a replacement, but, like Hudson, he pulled off a miracle to get the girl. As much as this man frustrated me, he still managed to make me swoon. This man is Fine with a capital F, and the support he ends up providing for Tamsin would not have worked so well for anyone else.

This is the one y'all are looking forward to. Our geeky vampire tutor turned attorney. Most notably, he is the only one of Tamsin's mates that she purposely chose. Everyone else is a fated mate, but she loved Darby enough to tell Fate and the gods to F off. Darby is far from perfect, but he is the normal in her world that's spinning wildly out of control, and let's face it, it's impossible to not find him loveable. He brings a lot of baggage though, and it is incredible to watch him work through it all.

Lucca's relationship started with a ... lie of omission? Not a purposeful misrepresentation, but it still set their relationship back. Truthfully, I didn't expect him to make the final cut, but Lucca worked his butt off to fix his mistakes, to learn and grow from them, and unlike the rest, he doesn't make the same mistake twice. And Harry, his bear, is just too adorable.

And this leaves us with Neldor Donovan, Prince of Dark Fairies, aka Prince of Darkness. When first introduced to Neldor, I knew he was going to be vital to the plot, but I wanted him to die in a fire regardless. He was just flat out mean to Tamsin, but as the story progressed, his character made subtle changes to his attitude and behavior, and I realized that I like the guy. For all of his faults, he ends up adoring Tamsin, and more than any of the other relationships, this one left me with warm fuzzies.

Expect my final review of the overall, full series in a few days.

However, as always, Iwant to leave a content warning of sorts because mental health matters. Contained in the story so far, you will find racism, classism, prejudice and past trauma (physically, emotionally, and smexually.) There are also forced abductions, bullying outside of the harem, references to ongoing trafficking, violence, attempted forced mating and SA, intimate partner abuse, family disconnect and related trauma from both sides, and discussion of forced breeding. Characters have ongoing mental health issues, including anxiety, panic attacks, depression, fear of abandonment, grief & loss, self-worth issues, and suicidal ideation. Please know your limits and read responsibly.

Perfect title for the story

I will be the first to admit I have been critical of the author for the way several of the characters act. However, in this installment of the story, I found many mature behaviors out of the main characters. I liked that there were fewer rants from Tamsin that made it much more believable. I also realized that while I have previously been critical of the character development and their ridiculous behavior (especially Tamsin’s), the layers of the story were neglected. The author put a lot of work into the development of Faerie. Basically starting from scratch. There are some issues that she has much more patience than the situation calls for but again, Tamsin is dealing with so much. I cannot stress enough the layers of her rebuilding Faerie add so much to the story in this book. This is probably my favorite book of the series so far because of the growth of the story. I would like to see more Izzy and less mate drama. It’s definitely tired but also drastically reduced in this book as well. And as much as Julian annoys me, his character there does need more development. Like what is he doing in all these meetings. They can’t all be for AT&P. I also enjoyed the collaboration with the other councils. It’s starting to look positive. The ending was definitely harmonious. I’m actually kind of shocked Tamsin hasn’t sent a bunch of fairies to school to become counselors given the amount of PTSD they are all suffering. Especially the hobgoblins. But that’s just a side note. All in all she definitely earned the 4 stars. Not quite 5 but definitely close.

I seriously LOVE these books!!

I love pretty much all of this author’s series but this is one of my fav. I know that it can be dark. This is actually the least dark one I ever read which gave me hope that things would start truly being better for Tamsyn. This is also the first book where she says she likes the role she was thrust into. Did I still cry at least once? Absolutely. But even still it was an incredible read.

My only “beef” was that in the start where Ms. Flynn describes all of the characters she describes Mel as Tams BFF. I understand that’s what she started as but that woman f’d up and doesn’t deserve that title Izzy however absolutely does!! Also, some of the wording in describing the characters was past tense and I panicked thinking a major character was dead and that somehow I had missed a book. I legit had to go back and double check that I hadn’t cause stupid Kindle Unlimited never ever tells me when one of this author’s books come out even though I obviously follow her. Not sure why but it’s always the case with this author and a few others I adore. I have to keep a running list to make sure I check a couple of times a month to make sure I’m not missing something.

But kuddos to this amazing author for this book #22 in an amazing series!

The in-between happy

These are my favourites in the Artemis series... Books that achieve and end on a high note.
This book has a lot of moving parts which are going to be needed as it gets closer to the series end.
It picks up moments after the ending of book 21 with Neldor and Tams slightly injured from the attack but ok and they've found the culprits.

The fight with Lageos was kind of a kick in the teeth and I hope they recover quickly. Knowing that there is a time limit on his life which is devastating for me so the characters must be inconsolable.

I'm so very happy that the fairies are finally pulling their heads out and are on board.

As always I'm still on team Lucca. I'm all sparkly now that Tams has realised that she and Neldor could be together and it won't be long until she admits she loves him too.

I love the series and will probably love it forever.

hurry up Erin and get writing.

It just finished. I was reading then it was the end. It went to quickly. I’m still enjoying reading these, but I wish she would be happy with ALL her men. I wished she hadn’t had a problem with her vampire, he was her solid all the way though. She doesn’t need to have problems with them all. I hope the problems with Neldor will be all sorted out by the time she finally stops being selfish and taking but not giving. It’ll be sad when she has to say goodbye to her dad for sure. When the end of the books come around. But I do hope you write an in the future bit, with all her children and all her mates.

This is it for me. I hate to say it but this series has dragged on too long. It’s hard to keep up with all the characters. I especially feel like it jumps all over the place and I honestly can’t remember what they are talking about. I’m also becoming increasingly frustrated that Tams can do no wrong and everyone else can make 0 mistakes. Now don’t get me wrong I think what some of her mates did was really messed up and they deserved what they got. But I struggled with the issue with her father. All parents are disappointed in their children, it’s a natural thing and for her to go off the rails was ridiculous. Between that woe is me attitude and the in continuity I’m tapped out.

Finished Too Soon!

For me, this time!
I pushed myself though!
Once, twice, maybe 4 times?

Twice it was just too late (or too early, depending on how you look at it)

Taking pain killers for an abscess so NOT sleeping wasn’t an option!

Maybe that is why I pushed so hard?

Another dry spell book wise! From My Favorite Authors, this book showed up right on time! (Before i became too desperate!)

Another good addition to the AU series! I really love the continued positive growth happening in so many of the characters. There were some lines in this book that had me cracking up as well! A little worried about the reason for what was happening with Tams at the end there, but just makes me want to read the next book even more!

Excellent continuation!

Thrilled that some things are getting resolved that have been ongoing issues for Tamsin. So happy that things with her men seem to finally be going well and hope to start seeing a bit more closure regarding some topics as far back as the third and fourth book in the series! I can’t wait to see what’s next!

Love that things are finally falling into place!

Tams has been through it, but I’m so glad things are finally looking up for her! I’m glad she finding her place as the future Queen and with all her mates. I’m so excited to see her finally starting to accept Neldor and finally fully accepting Julian and Hudson after all their ups and downs!

Soothing

Tamsin and her men have all grown so much, come so very far. The drama wasn’t gut wrenching and I feel we all needed that , most especially Tamsin herself. The scenes with Neldor and Craftsman touched my heart. Izzy coming into her own was good as well as the meltdown of her mentor/lawyer. All in all this was a great addition to our beloved fairies story.

Obsessed!!

I adore this series and the excitement I feel when the next book is released is insane! I'm so glad we seem to have moved in a more positive direction. Some of the previous books kept feeling really depressing and frustrating but this book had me happy and excited! I hope the only way is up for Tamsin and her mates. Team Neldor all the way!!

Awesome adventure!!

I truly appreciate the interactions of these characters. They face so many obstacles. The adversity at times overwhelming even deadly. Yet together they don't just survive but learn and reach new heights of success in rebuilding their lives and home. The storylines keep me invested and impatiently awaiting the next adventure.

Better than great

After so many books you'd think "What else could she keep coming up with?" But every time it just gets better. I keep getting deeply immersed in thus series that this time. I didn't even notice that the whole day had passed. Tamsin finds a new level of power that's unbelievable. And she comes to a wonderful realization. Definitely keep going with this series.

open your heart

So finally we see bonds forming. I also see bonds being repaired as well. I think she needs to be careful with how much she takes on because if she handles to much she can get burnt out. I am glad she has Nel, Hudson, Julian, Luca, and Darby but she needs to be open to the help and guidance.

I love this series ♥️

This is one of my all time favorite series I have ever had the privilege to read. I love the characters and the story. Just one thing to keep in mind before read this particular part, is that if you haven't read books 1 through 21 ( and remember what happened) then this one won't make much sense. As always, can't wait for the next one.

Amazing

So much happens! I love seeing her relationships with her mates as they do their best to figure things out, it's amazing at how far she's come and it's so nice to see her realize that! She's always going to have chaos as a leader but it's lovely to see it hurt her less and have the support to figure it out and do their best to make things better! Such a sweet ending 🥰

Another bore of a read. It is shocking how few epic or strong events are happening this close to the end of a long series. I don't understand the pacing for it, but I'm not a writer. The errors were still too present to let me fall into a groove, and the guys were still not calling out Tam for not communicating. Overall, nothing has changed again.
