Adriana is the youngest daughter of Silvio Orsini, head of the Italian mafia. She is your typical mafia princess, except that she doesn't indulge in the finer things in life. She loves your vintage inspired looks and working from home. She does the books for her father's businesses.
Tristan is the oldest son of Malachy Callahan, head of the Irish mafia and the rival family of the Orsini mafia. He is known for his playboy ways and just being an all around jerk.
Tristan and Adriana have known each other since they were young, but they never held any feelings for one another. Pretty much hanging around in different circles. After an FBI raid on a local mafia family, the Rossis, Silvio and Malachy decide that it is in the best interests of their families to have Tristan and Adriana marry.
Unfortunately, Tristan makes a decision that affects every member of both the Callahans and Orsinis negatively, particularly himself and Adriana. With a massive surprise and secret between the two, they go on the run to ensure their safety. They can't hide forever, though, and life catches up with them. When Adriana's life is put in danger, the Callahans come to her rescue, but things do not go as planned.
After returning home, life is nowhere near what is was prior to them taking off, and a plan to bring both families together again comes to fruition. In the beginning of said plan, there's a disloyalty discovered in the Orsini family, officially ending Illicit Throne on a cliffhanger.
Illicit Throne is a mafia based romance with a twisted plot that will have you questioning your theories after almost every chapter. Nothing is what it seems, and loyalties aren't what they used to be. Illicit Throne is a very well written thrilling, mysterious, semi-dark slow burn romance that will have you begging for Shattered Crown, book two, for all the answers to the questions you develop.
Well that was something. I would say it's a nice appetizer for the next installment. A lot of there issues could've been fixed of Tristan wouldve told her how he felt about her. But then it wouldn't have setup the next book as it is needed. I did like them as a couple. They both have some suspect family members. I see a real wild ride coming with this series and I can't wait for it.

I received an arc copy of this book and I really enjoyed this it leaves off on a cliffhanger and I can’t wait to see what happens next with the story. I could not put this down it definitely is a book that keeps you wanting to read.
I received an advanced copy, and this is my honest review. This story holds a lot of promise. The characters have a very push and pull relationship due to the divide of families. The mmc is overly anxious about repeating the mistakes of his father, so he spends the majority of the book trying to push her away to protect her. Ultimately, this is frustrating, but the end result forms a stronger bond. It ends on a cliffhanger, so be prepared for that. I'm curious to see where the rest of this story goes.
Adriana and Tristan were born into the same world but their families are fierce rivals. A planned marriage between them is supposed to bring their families together and end years of hate, but that’s not how it unfolds.
I loved the character building. The romance between Tristan and Adriana was complicated but in a good way! Who doesn’t love an enemies to lovers?! The pregnancy added an extra layer to the story. Lots of action, lots of intense moments, good amounts of spice, ended on a fabulous cliffhanger.
"Illicit Throne" catapults us into the world of Adriana Orsini ( daughter of the head of the Italian mafia Silvio Orsini) and Tristan Callahans (son and future heir of the head of the Irish mafia Malachy Callahans). Due to the rivalry between the two gangs, Silvio and Malachy agree to plan an arranged marriage between the two so that they can bring peace between the gangs. Tristan and Adriana, however, will face many adversities between back and forth, escapes and doubts.
Although the idea and the plot are interesting, the realization is really poor. Already from the first pages we can notice grammatical and typing errors. Going on with the pages you can notice forgetfulness of details ( colors of clothes that change within two lines for example) and this led me to a feeling of boredom only a few pages from the beginning. Gritting my teeth I continued to read but the decline in my concentration was greatly expanded by: events happening too fast , many times senseless dialogues and thoughts of characters who did not respect their own actions. Not having a well-defined timeline certainly didn’t help in understanding how much time passes between events. While there is nothing wrong with making the son of a gang leader more "sensitive" and less stoic, I found Tristan completely different than you’d expect. On the other hand, Adriana has a very strong character that, however, is overshadowed by her continuous bickering, making her a nerve-wracking character.
The spicy parts are very mild. I find the trigger warning about kidnapping very wrong, because more than a kidnapping is a flight to safety.
There are some twists but they can not resume my complete concentration and curiosity. The cliffhanger ending leaves much confusion, leaving many unresolved and unexplained issues behind. Reluctantly I don’t think I’ll be able to continue the saga.
I recommend it to those who want to enter slowly into the world of mafia novels.
I suggest the author, if possible, to take in hand the writing and correct typos and grammatical errors so as to make easier and better reading to the reader.

I received an advanced copy and this is my honest review.
First, I always like to say thank you to the author for honoring me with this copy and a chance to explore your mind a bit in the fiction romance world.
This story is holding promise, and I definitely want to continue and see where Adriana and Tristan's relationship goes. I give this a 3.5/4 stars.
At times, I could see a resemblance to real life relationships, as far as the frustration we experience with lack of open communication, and following your heart vs your head.
I loved Adriana more than Tristan (obviously) she elicits badassery and women's independence. As females we strive for this vision. Tristan seemed a bit whiney and reminded me of a boy not a man-- which is far too relatable to the current dating scene we’re in--which might be a reason he triggered me LOL.
Although I was hooked and kept going, I found myself a bit frustrated with the writing style.
It felt a bit inconsistent at times and there was a lack of storytelling when it came to really bringing a scene to life. Sometimes, I felt no connection with the characters because there was missing background information, and things seemed a bit rushed. A lot of holes where there was opportunity to build up to something.
However, the growth and connection between the two main characters is powerful and could really flourish in the next book. The cliffhanger was a bit out of pocket but now I'm curious at what twist and turns will happen next.
I really want to encourage the author to keep evolving this love story. I can see what is needing to be unveiled and can’t wait for the next book to come out!
This is another book I would definitely recommend to new readers trying to tip their toes into Dark Mafia Romance!
Going into this book I was thinking it was the typical Mafia forced marriage and/or kidnapping with Stockholm syndrome plot. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find it was much more than that, and not exactly what I was thinking. Was there an arranged marriage? Yes. did it go how I thought it would? Definitely not.
I had an on-again off-again love for Tristan. Dude is just so WISHY WASHY. He wants… but then he's self deprecating. He loves… but then he wants to blow up relationships on purpose. It makes no sense. He's emotionally stunted in the relationship department, and it's not entirely his fault, but dude needs some serious therapy and needs to find someone to help him learn to communicate.
Without Tristan's communication issues, things would have been so much smoother… but, I guess, that also means that the book would have had half the plot and would have felt unfinished and with too simple of a problem to solve.
Adriana is lovely, but she also needs some help communicating.
The miscommunication trope actually makes the book the book here, but the frustration I felt with Tristan and his back and forth antics, and not understanding why at the end of the book, is why I didn't rate the book 5 stars. If, as a reader, I could have had his point of view at the end for his snap decision that literally tore our hearts out, I would have been able to deal with it better.
There were a few scene inconsistencies, but nothing to ruin a scene or the book. Just minor oopsies.
Anyway:
-Spice is nice. I give it a 4.5/5 for chili peppers.
-Kidnapping trope between MCs is not triggering, or problematic, in my opinion.
-The miscommunication trope is fairly well done, but I wish we had more internal monologue for the miscommunication.
-mafia backdrop is a good one and gives some nice twists and turns

This book had potential. The blurb advertised kidnapping but that wasn’t really the case. It was more of wrong place wrong time and now you have to hide with me for our safety.
The beginning of the book had me intrigued but the rest was hard for me to get through.
Tristian was soft and there’s nothing wrong with that. I just wasn’t expecting this type of softness in a mafia book.
Adriana was… I wouldn’t even know how to describe her. She had the potential of being strong and a badass but she was… kind of sheltered from the mafia world. Yes, she did their books but she didn’t really get the gist of what mafia life entails. And frankly, I just didn’t like her.
“Adriana, there’s a difference in knowing something intellectually and experiencing it firsthand.”
“I had known about the violence and bloodshed but it was always from a safe distance. Tonight, I had witnessed it firsthand and it was more terrifying than any rumor or hearsay.“
I just couldn’t feel their connection. All Adriana did was argue and of course her feelings and arguments are valid but it annoyed the heck out of me.
The ending was… a bit confusing. Left a lot of questions unanswered and does end on a cliffhanger.
I’m also curious if the author is British, the term bloody and mum was used a few times “bloody hell” “bloody idiot” that or maybe Irish uses that term as well.

This is book 1 in the Bound by Bloodlines series and let me tell you.. this was an amazing start. Triston and Adriana were basically being arranged to be wed by their fathers to sort of end the wars between the two families and help unite them. After Tristan spends a night with Adriana, he realizes that he really likes her and doesn't want to drag her into the mafia life... which... call me crazy, but being a mafia princess, she was already sort of in the life??... but anyway.. he wanted it to be her choice. He calls off the arrangement which angers Adriana's father and makes things worse between the families. Then.. surprise. Adriana fins out she is pregnant. But right after telling Tristan, they basically end up on the run for their lives. Being forced to spend time with each other, they realize how much they do want to be together and raise the baby together, except, another rival family comes into the picture and kidnaps Adriana. The characters are amazing. Adriana is smart, savvy, and brave. Tristan, where Adriana is concerned is so sweet, loving, caring, but when he's doing work for his father, he's the muscle man. This story was captivating and I really enjoyed the way it flowed. It was very well written and watching Adriana and Triston grow throughout the story was great. I can't wait to read the next book in the series!
I absolutely devoured this book and pretty much read it in one sitting, I think it took just over 4 hours. I loved it and was gripped right from the get go. While it seemed on the lighter side of a dark mafia romance, there was enough action that kept me on the edge of my seat wanting more but not wanting it to end at the same time. Both of the main characters were written beautifully, which meant I found myself very invested in them very quickly. In fact, the development of all the characters involved in this story was brilliant, even the small ones that were only involved for a short time felt like they had a purpose and not like they’d just been shoved in as an afterthought to bulk things out. I adored Tristan’s hard yet soft, protective personality, as well as Adriana’s strong and persistent disposition. There was a point in the book where it felt like things took a massive jump from one point to the next very quickly, but I think all in all things evened out rather nicely. The spice that was written was also done very well….it was hot! It is left on a cliffhanger but that just means that I can’t wait for the next book to be released! I would definitely recommend the read.

Full of witty banter, sass and action!
ARC review.

With hopes of forming a strong alliance and ending this mafia feud, the Callaghan’s and Orsini’s thought they had the perfect solution. From the start this first instalment is full of action, twists and witty banter. I love the back and forth between Tristan and Adriana. Adriana is a strong FMC who isn’t afraid to put Tristan in his place. The vulnerability that we get to see in Tristan and his inner struggles with what he should do vs what he wants to do will have you falling for him from the beginning.
The character development kept me invested and wanting more. I do feel some parts were rushed and hoping that they will tie together in future books.
Illicit Crown does end on a cliffhanger with some MAJOR suspense. Not as dark and twisted as I am used to with dark mafia romance but thoroughly enjoyed this read and cannot wait for the second part!
Illicit Throne is Part 1 of a series. It’s a good Mafia story. It has the thrill, the chase, kidnappings and every other exciting plot part a good Mafia story should have. The characters were well presented, although, judging by the blurb, I expected more hardcore male and female main characters. Tristan was….well, milder in behavior than I expected. Still a good male lead, though. He was determined, decisive and non-nonsense when needed, but he gave the impression that he was more forced into the life than actually wanted it – and if he could have an out (which he knew that he couldn’t have, and fully accepted the fact), he would take it. Adrianna was also a good female character, although I would expect her to be more sassy and badass than how she actually was. She was decisive and determined but more mellow than I expected. Also this back and forth with the marriage thing could be handled better by Tristan and Adrianna alike. The last plot twist made me want to dive in the next part of the story to find out what happens next. I’ll definitely continue with the story to know how it ends. 4 stars from me.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This book is a mafia romance that revolves around the Italian mafia princess and the Irish mafia heir. There is on going territory war between mafia families until the heads of these families decide that their children should marry for political gain and alliances. This would have solved a lot if the mmc didn’t back out of the arrangement. Little does he know however, the fmc is already pregnant with his child when he does so. They go on the run together as they are being hunted because there is now a play for power with their failed alliance by the arranged married.
This book is a great starting point into dark or mafia romance specifically. There were some violent scenes but nothing was overtly described. That can also be said for the spice level in this book. I thought the spice level was accurate to the storyline and left you open to feel the angst and banter between the main characters.
As approaching the end of the book I realized the author was setting up plot wholes for future reads which I appreciated. I really look forward to seeing where their relationship goes and what happened to their “family”.

Overall, I enjoyed the story of the book. The plot was great and the characters were lovable and made you want to root for them. The story kept you wanting more. I love a good mafia romance, and this one had all the key factors that made it interesting. And Tristan and Adrianna’s relationship was so intense and their emotions make you feel like you’re part of the story as well. Not gonna lie, I was reading in public and got a little teary eyed at one point because of it!
The only downside of the book is the fact that the writing style was kind of repetitive and there were some plot holes (time lines didn’t add up, author would say characters did something and then repeat the action shortly after, etc.). I can overlook that, but I know some people can’t so i definitely wanted to mention it because it happened frequently enough for me to drop a star.
Despite the repetition and the plot holes, I am looking forward to the second book. I’ve already downloaded it and will post a review as soon as I’ve finished it!
📚Review ~ Illicit Throne (Bound by Bloodlines Book 1) 🖋Author ~ Clarissa Bright 🖋Features: Enemies to lovers, Mafia Romance ⭐️Rating: 5/5
Adriana ~ We were alone against an enemy who knew too much about us.
Tristian’s inexperience shows in nearly every decision he makes. He is next in live to take over the Callahan crime syndicate. An alliance with the Orsini family would solidify their power base. The confusion and indecision Tristian and Adriana exhibit is reflected in their immaturity. While Tristian wants to protect Adriana and step into a leadership role, his lack of resources and experience is glaringly obvious.
Illicit Throne is a great beginning to the Callahan and Orisini alliance. I look forward to Tristian and Adriana’s uneasy truce as they are forced to rely on each other to grow up fast.
I really enjoyed this book from the start. It has been so good, I've just got the 2nd one of Amazon, and I can't wait to read the next instalment.
I find that I enjoy the play between the 2 lead characters, there is more there than meets the eye. Tristan may be the muscle and the heir apparent but he has a soft side, one that is hidden but Adriana gets to see. Adriana may be a mafia princess but she has a head for business. Even though she doesn't see the dark side of the family 'busines' she has a strength and a depth to her, which Tristan finds and draws him to her even more, when things go awry.
Both are there for each other when on the run, helping each other through difficult times. This is when Tristan realises he may have walked away from the 'agreement' between the 2 families but he can't walk away Adriana, she has a draw to her, that pulls him in. She is the light to his dark.
But the unrest between the Orsini, Callahans and now the Rossi's there is more at stake, more that Tristan could lose. He will protect Adriana with his life and find the rat that is in their ranks.

First and foremost I did appreciate that this book didn’t immediately jump into marriage! Yes, there are many books I’ve loved that start with an arranged marriage and end in a HEA, but I liked the whole premise of “I don’t want to force her to marry me”.
Very moderate spice level, enough to quench my spicy needs, but still has a decent amount of the actual plot! I don’t want to call the relationship aspect a slow burn exactly, but it’s very hot and cold! I can never tell what direction Ade and Tristans relation is going, not to the point where it’s annoying, but to the point where as soon as I’m done writing this I’ll probably get the second book because I need to know what’s going to happen!
Also! The twist at the end came out of nowhere but I loved it! Yet another reason that I need the second book now!
There were some parts of the story that seemed a little, inconsistent? But I can imagine sometimes it can be hard to keep this a hundred percent when writing a book! But, I definitely enjoyed this book and look forward to reading the next one!
I liked this book, I don't know why other reviews say that the main character Tristan isn't acting like a Mafia man. This house story is about him keeping his baby mama/soon to be wife Adriana alive. So it's kinda hard to be a Mafia man when he on the run trying to keep her alive. To me, he still acted like one, doing what is needed to keep Adriana alive. Adriana the Mafia princess and I'm not going to lie she does fit the part lol. The one thing I wish is that both of them would talk to each other instead of making decisions for each other. It made me want to shake both of them at one point.
In this story Tristan is trying to keep her alive by any means possible, while trying to figure out who the mole is that is trying to kill them both. It's an interesting and good story! I honestly can't wait to read the second book that is coming out soon!
“she made me feel all kinds of things: rage, terror, and that warm, overwhelming sensation that burned right in the center of my chest. I loved her.”
Tristan Callahan disobeyed the family when he didn’t honor the arranged marriage to a rival family’s princess. The transaction would have put decades of war to peace; instead, the opposing families are doubling down, and a third crime family has been dragged into the mix.
Tristan and Adriana's story is complicated but as their characters grow, you can see their love unravel despite everything standing in their way.
The cliffhanger that you are left with wants you to immediately start the next book.

Tropes: * Mafia romance * Dual POV * Enemies to lovers * Dark Romance * Cliff hanger
Well that was a shock. From the burp I thought this was going to be a single dad mafia, where he was trying to win back the girl he walked away from. That is not what I got at all, but surprisingly I’m okay with that. What I did get was a mafia prince not wanting to use the mafia princess as a pawn and wanting her to have her dream man. But life has a way of messing everything up. The MMC ends up kinda kidnapping the FMC, but she is okay with it. There is betrayal from family, prenatal death, unplanned pregnancy, enemies to lovers, maybe marriage and a whole lot of special moments makes for a great read. I did enjoy the book, even with the cliffhanger of an ending.
Now if you couldn’t tell by my review, yes you need to check trigger warnings as this is a little bit on the dark side. And the MMC is very much a morally gray bad good guy.
I'm not sure where this story is going, but it was entertaining enough to get me to finish. I'm not a big fan of surprise pregnancy tropes, but it did move the plot along and forced the MCs into an alliance. There were some slow moments that seemed unnecessary, and then things wrapped up a bit too quickly for that cliffhanger...
Overall, it was a good start, but I'm not sure if I'll continue with the next book. It's definitely not my favorite from this author.

Illicit Throne is a mafia romance full of suspense, action, fairly good spice, and a twist.
Tristan and Adriana were born into the same world. Families forged in blood with the threat of war overhead. With the thought of bringing peace, an arranged marriage is made between the two.
However, the stakes are high for Tristan and one decision will throw everything into a tailspin.
Adriana is a fierce and strong FMC, who isn’t afraid to give as good as she gets. I liked Tristan’s willingness to do whatever it takes to protect his family. The back and forth between the characters kept me engaged and the cliffhanger at the end will have you reeling.
A good mafia romance to start your foray into the dark side.
Summary: I devoured this book and enjoyed every second of it. It was a perfect mix of action, romance, and plot twists. The characters, especially the female and male lead, formed a harmonious pair with a cheeky attitude that I immediately fell in love with.
It was superbly written, not too long and not too short. I loved the wordplay and had to stifle my laughs at times because it was late at night and my neighbours wouldn't appreciate it.
I liked how the characters handled the situation, and although many may see Tristan as a red flag, he remains the first green flag in the mafia universe for me. Ade is a strong woman who deserves my full respect for facing her destiny head-on and not crumbling. I can't wait to read more from this universe.
Clarissa Bright has done it again with Illicit Throne. How wrong can an arranged mafia marriage go? Tristan and Adriana are first thrown together by their warring families to form an alliance. Typical for mafia families. But this one gets so many things wrong putting the lives of both mafia families in danger for all the wrong reasons. Even though done for the right reasons. Or so Tristan thinks. Till everything starts to go bad. This author has such a unique awe-inspiring talent for writing both a love and suspense novel to keep you glued to the pages and leave you wanting more. I cannot say enough good about both the author and the talent that went into this book. Leading up to book 2 of this trilogy. Don't miss out on this one. You won't be disappointed.
This was my very first mafia book so I had no idea what to expect. Within the first chapter I was hooked, I needed to see where this went. Two people from two different mafia families trying to protect their families. I loved that there was just enough spice in this book but not too much to take away from the story line. There were a few unexpected things thrown in there that had me frustrated with a couple of characters like they were people I actually knew haha! This book made wanting to read more even when I knew I should be sleeping. It did end up with a cliff hanger and it leaves you not being able to wait for the next one!
This book follows Tristan Callahan who refused to comply with the princess's arranged marriage to a competing family, he rebelled against his family. If the deal had gone through, decades of conflict would have ended; instead, the rival families are intensifying their efforts, and a third criminal family has been brought into the fray. There are attempts on Tristan's life, but there are other attempts to break his family line. This book is well written, easy to follow and easy to connect with the characters. It grabs your attention from the first chapter and is hard to put down. If you enjoy spicy and enemy to lover books then this is for you.
Tristan and Adrianna were great main characters. In normal Mafia fashion, Tristan tries to push her away to protect her from being apart of the mafia lifestyle but she’s strong minded and does what she wants. Their lack of communication drove me crazy at times because so many things could have been resolved had they talked to one another. The storyline itself was good. I enjoyed the plot twists and the spice when it did come up in the story. The cliffhanger helps to set up the next book in the series (hate that for me because I have to wait for book 2 to get answers lol). But I would definitely continue the series to see where Clarissa takes these 2 next!
Tristan and Adriana's story had me completely hooked. Sure, there were times when I wanted to shake some sense into Tristan for being overly protective, and Adriana's character took some getting used to. But despite those quirks, their relationship kept me turning the pages. The plot had its ups and downs, and I was left with a bunch of questions by the end, but man, the tension and drama had me on the edge of my seat. Can't wait to see where the next book takes us.
I received a ARC copy of this book in exchange of my honest review.
