It's hell being in love with your straight best friend

Blurb

I’ve always known there could never be anything more between Logan and me, even though I’ve been in love with him for forever. Logan is straight. I’m not. We’ve been best friends since middle school, and I’d never do anything to ruin that.

Until I accidentally send a drunken text confessing everything I feel for him.

But taking a chance on something more means risking everything we have. I don’t know if he’s ready for that. Maybe it would be better to forget what happened between us, even if I never will.

Or maybe I need to accept Logan’s not so straight after all….

Not So Straight is a 19,000 word novella with a complete story and a HEA. It's part of the Real Thing Series but can be read on its own.

3.5 rounded down because I truly dislike this trope, but it's a well written book.

This - "they're my best friend and I've fallen for them but I can't let them know because it'll ruin our friendship" - is one of my least favourite tropes. It's completely ridiculous.

When I was in highschool, I had a good friend who was really into me. I was sorry I couldn't reciprocate, but it didn't affect our friendship. If you really like someone, and they really like you, one of you having stronger feelings shouldn't destroy the friendship. And, you might get a pleasant surprise.

Especially when, after you came out to your friend, the 2 of you got drunk and they snuggled up to you. Deciding not to respond isn't neutral, it's rejection. Why would they get even more demonstrative when they've already been rejected.

I know human beings often don't think logically, but, having lived this scenario, I have very limited patience for it.

Will I finish this book? I don't know. I'll read a bit more and see how I feel. It's not a bad book, it simply grates on that particular nerve.

I went back to the book shortly after I wrote the above, and I did finish it. Mostly because they managed to get out of their own way right about then, so that frustration was eliminated. And, because, other than that, it was a more than decent read. The author knows what they're doing.

Logan and Spencer have been best friends since middle school and have remained so while Spencer is away at college. Logan stayed home to help his father on the family’s farm. Logan and Spencer have shared some personal hardships that made them closer. They have also shared some mistaken beliefs about each other. Spencer is gay and has been out since high school. Spencer was always assumed to be straight since he didn’t say otherwise. The truth comes out while Spencer is home during a break from college.

This was a short, sweet, and spicy story. I recommend this book to fans of mm erotica, small town romance, cowboys, and friends to lovers tropes.

Although these two young men are grown up, college age I'm still gonna use the word adorable because these two friends are freaking adorable! Neighbors and friends since they were little, one gay, the other assumed straight, you can see where this is going. No angst thought, except for a grumpy, abrupt father, just a very sweet and touching novella.
