REALIGNMENT
FAULT LINES, BOOK 5
A.F. Henley
Review
Realignment is a very important story in the Fault Lines series. Not only is it very beautiful and yet tragic at the same time. Like ”A New Finish Line“ it brings a lot of the characters in the growing circle of friends to be together.
When I say tragic it concerns Blake’s as well as Connor’s past. One of them never getting any love in his past, the other still dealing with a huge loss. These two also are the most unlikely characters to come together. One thing is the age gap. A.F. Henley managed to deal with the age gap perfectly and in a very believable way from the very start.
The other thing is Blake’s past is one of drug abuse, living in the streets, and imprisonment. Connor’s life was about family, rules and responsibility, and being there for each other.
Yet slowly, they start to grow on each other, like each other, and their feelings fro each other grow more and more. And here the novel makes for many truly beautiful moments. Yet both still have to fight their inner demons as the past doesn’t let go easily. Connor is the big surprise the more we learn about his personality and the changes he is going through. Because of his past, deep inside, Blake is feeling like trash and unworthy, and in a dramatic moment, Connor forces him to deal with those destructive feelings.
And even then, another huge burden that strikes fear into Blake’s heart is the prospect of one day having to face his former buddy Lee and Connor’s son Scott.
Despite the honest drama and highly emotional moments in this amazing novel, ”Realignment“ also is a promise that second chances are possible if you have the courage to face your past. There are also many beautiful and fun moments coming from Connor’s lightly grump character and Blake’s wittiness. Oh yes. And the funniest line in the whole series about how to drive a horse! City boys! (laughs) A.F. Henley’s ability to write strong and believable characters is shining in this gorgeous novel!
