Hurt Me Not

Rate this book
As a lieutenant at the Fool’s Pass Fire Department and a single father, Easton Kooper’s life revolves around his children. When he receives an urgent call from his son’s doctor, it upends Easton’s world. Suddenly, barreling into a burning building sounds like a piece of cake. With no idea of what to do or where to turn, he’s never felt more lost. And then in walks the answer he didn’t know he needed: a gorgeous fae with an angelic smile, bearing grand promises to turn the Kooper family’s life right side up again.

Finch knows the rules: don’t fall in love with a human. That’s always been simple enough to follow—at least until the Kooper family. Despite his best efforts, Finch grows attached to Easton and his children…attached enough that he’s tempted to turn his back on the fae and their laws completely.

Before long, the pair must brace themselves as both their worlds seek to destroy them. When the darkness crashes down, it’ll take every ounce of defiance and magic Finch has to keep the Koopers safe. Faced with immovable magic and unspeakable danger, is there really any way Finch and Easton’s love can prevail?
Fighting it is hopeless, but embracing it could mean ruin for them all.

Hurt Me Not is a standalone MM urban fantasy. Guaranteed HEA. No cliffhanger.

I loved the start of this book! The hospital setting with Milo’s sickness pulled at my heartstrings. I loved all of the characters. I really liked the fae powers and how they were used in the medical field.

I had issues with the plot though. It had such a strong start, but the middle and ending were rushed. The Love was so Insta that we had our MC’s living together after one date. Everyone fell so quickly that I almost expected the word “mate” to be thrown in at some point.

I wish the author had taken the time to develop the plot because the characters were fantastic.

This was sweet, but I'm not a fan of dead loves. Even though I think the author did a pretty good job with it, I still think if his wife walked through the door, Easton would struggle even though he was meant to be with Finch. Maybe that was just my take since I'm not a fan of it anyway. But the kids were awesome, and I love how they accepted Finch right away. I will say I hated that the first 40% or so concentrated on Milo's illness. Things move pretty quickly in the romance department after that, but I didn't feel like there was anything in the first part that warranted it. But I am a fan of insta-love; just wish it happened in the story sooner. The ending was a little rushed and felt a little unfinished even though we get an epilogue. Overall, enjoyable, and I would definitely read more if this were a series.

I had great faith in this book going in. It is, to me, the first straight up fantasy Davidson has done (because I consider the blood boss series to be more linked to the mafia world in spite of the fantasy elements) but it was a well constructed world, the kind that makes a good foundation for a good fantasy. When it comes to fantasy, a proper world building is as important as a good plot.
And the plot is good too, so two out of two in that one. I wish we had a bit more emotional build up, but there is plenty in the story to keep it both interesting and satisfying. I liked it.
There is also potential for a sequel, which isn't unnoticed. A Zephyr book would be really cool

This is the first time I've read urban fantasy. While I'm trying to read more out of my comfort zone this year, this book wasn't horrible. But still not my jam.

The storu telling was good, although I think this author could add more back ground into how faes came to be.

Overall, not bad and I may try this genre again.

★ ★ ★ ★ ✬ (4.5 stars rounded up since GR still doesn’t have half stars 🙄)

Call me surprised because I DEVOURED this audio! Simon Dornet and Curtis Michael Holland were FANTASTIC narrators that really brought Finch and Easton to life.

Urban fantasy with some mighty smexy scenes and heartfelt emotions woven through. It was a fairly easy plot and for the length of the story the development was so good! It would’ve been better if it was a bit longer and we had a bit of a better epilogue but I really enjoyed this one.

The side characters were memorable, especially the kids and Daisy. Milo was a sweetheart and such a central being to everything.

Looking forward to reading more from this author!

Loved!

This book came as a recommendation and I absolutely loved it! Finch and Easton and his sweet kids sucked me in from the beginning and didn't let go until I finished their journey. There are some difficult topics within this book but they didn't take away from the love that was built. I would definitely recommend this book.

A new twist...

I liked this best for the twist on Fae, but I absolutely won't discount the sweet blooming love between Finch and Easton.

5+ Stars❤️❤️
A great start to the book but a sad one as little Milo was possibly a sick boy without knowing it.
Easton, 36 years (a firefighter) had a 10 yr, Milo and a daughter Tru at 13 who he loved. But that shatters as East gets bad news from a doctor for his son in a routine checkup.
Finch 🧚‍♂️was working at the hospital in the human land to do good for patients who need him. But, he and other Fae had one rule.. Not to fall in love with a human or he'd be in deep dodo trouble.
Finch does his best to reign in his own feeling especially with his parents threatening Finch.  He’s a special Fae which is why he has the dramas especially with his father, no spoilers ;)

Dangers happen, and all are in trouble and try and stay safe from Finch’s father. A good verses the evil situation, Finch vows and does in all he can do to protect the Kooper family especially at the big ending.
This was a beautiful story with all the feels and emotions which I loved from the start to the finish.
This is very different storyline to what other books I’ve read by the author and loved every minute of the nail biting book.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/6.
🌶🌶/5.

It has been a hot minute since I read a Davidson King book and this was just what i needed today. She always writes such caring and heartwarming characters. Her stories always gives me a burst of happiness whenever i finish one of her books. 🥰

Easton is a widower with two kids and he's a fireman too. 😉
Since his wife died, his life has been his kids and no one ever sparked his interest. One day he gets a call from his son's doctor and his life changes forever and I dare say for the best.
He discovers his son has Evan's syndrome which is essentially an autoimmune disease. It was hard reading about it when I know the author went through this with her son too and I love that she dedicated this book to her son who went through the ringer. Shoutout to you Jack, you rock!

Finch is a fae living in the human world and he chose to be a nurse because while his power has two sides, he favors the good one and he chose to help others with it.
I loved everything about him but especially how he was with Milo, Easton's son, since the first time they met. Finch has such a good heart and I love that he was so selfless with himself and was always there when Milo needed him.
Obviously Easton couldn't help but fall in love with him whenever he saw Finch & Milo interact with each other. There was a twist about Easton that I really liked too. 🤐
I loved Easton & Finch together and I loved their unwavering love in face of what they had ahead.
Tru, Easton's daughter, was also a great kid. I loved everything about her too.

The last page of this book brought a tear of joy to my eye. Davidson tied this story very nicely and I loved it.
This story had no conflict between the couple whatsoever which I loved too and I loved what happened towards the end.
I oddly loved the other side characters too. I know this is a standalone but i argue that Miss King should make this a series cos I'm very interested in Finch's brothers. They have great potential. 👀

I can't wait for this author next release!

* I read an arc of this book. *

Davidson King always has a way with words, she knows how to draw you in from the very first page. She knows how to captivate you with her characters, and how to whisk you away into a world that isn't ours, but one that we wish was. I don't think I've ever related to a character as much as I did with Milo. I can relate to his character in a very personal way. Once I started this story I could not put it down, I read the whole book within two hours and now I'm left reeling from this beautiful masterpiece.

Finch's character is a fae who has both light and dark magic, but he only uses and chooses to use his light magic. He works at a hospital helping patients and making their days just a bit better in whichever way he can. That's where he meets Milo, and that's when he realizes that he might just end up not loving one human, but three. I adored Finch's character, while yes he is a fae there is so much more to his character than just what being he is. His character is multifaceted and has so much depth to him, along with a very unique backstory. Davidson King took a mythical being, Fae's, and made it her own. There were so many unique attributes to these characters she created that it made it feel as though she created the concept of Fae's. I found that to be really intriguing and it made me eager to read more so I could learn more about Finch's world.

Easton's character was a sweetheart as well. After his wife passed away, he became a single father with two young children, and working a gruelling job. When Milo's doctor called him cause she was worried about his son's tests, he immediately took action to get his son the care he needed. He cares for his kids with his whole heart and his character was just so amazing.

The scenes that had the kids and Finch along with Easton making memories together, those scenes were my favorite. Finch promising Milo cookies and following through on that promise is one of the scenes I'm referring to. It was just so sweet and touching. I adored how Finch was respectful of the kids and how he bonded with them. I found the way his and Easton's relationship progressed was done in such a beautiful way! They took things slow, while also acknowledging that they wanted to be with one another.

The buildup that occurs throughout the story that leads to the big scene was done really well. I couldn't predict what was going to happen, or if something did, who was going to be the culprit. It was really awesome to be kept in suspense. I thought the action scenes that were in here was handled nicely and with great details.

The ending of this book blew me away, it was so sweet, and beautiful, and just tied everything in a very pretty bow. This is going to be a re-read for sure!

HOLY HANNAH BATMAN!! Davidson King has done it again!!! Hurt Me Not is a highly personal journey for the author, perhaps not the paranormal element but all the emotions the characters feel stem from personal experience. I'm not a parent but I have spent too much time at my mom's bedside, hospital and home, feeling the very same things: fear, worry, need to breakdown but not being able to, wanting to take their pain away but can't. It can really weigh on a person and seeing the author take those experiences and channel them into an amazing storytelling journey, well it's just very uplifting and gives one hope on a variety of levels.

So let's talk Hurt Me Not.

Easton is facing what no parent wants: a phone call from his son's doctor who has low lab numbers and more tests are needed. When the team has issues getting an IV placed for young Milo, Finch is called in as he has an unbelievable yet welcoming calming ability about him. My mom is a hard stick when it comes to IVs and have seen nurses of all kinds try and fail, unintentionally cause pain and be so gentle you didn't even know you got poked, so I understand Milo's fears and the relief Finch provides.

Speaking of Milo, he and his sibling, Tru(or Tru-Bug as daddy Easton says) are an absolute delight. Hurt Me Not may be Easton and Finch's journey but seeing the kids navigate the illness and all the emotions that go with it warms the heart. In fiction I find kids can be hard to balance between sugary sweet and spoiled brat but Davidson King does it beautifully.

You could say Hurt Me Not is a story told in two parts: the contemporary tale of Milo's illness and effects on family and the paranormal tale of Finch, his family, and the Fae. On the surface it seems like an odd pairing to mix but King balances both with an equal mix of realism and fantasy until they are two sides of the same coin. My heart bleeds and cheers for everyone, well not everyone, Finch has a few family members that are on the dark side of life😉. Not a single character is filler, they all have a purpose.

It's hard for me write this review without putting loads of personal emotions and experiences in so I'll just stop here and say that Hurt Me Not is brilliant. I can see why it was one of the hardest stories to date for the author to tell but I can also see why it was most likely the most rewarding and therapeutic. The Fae brings a fantasy element that only heightens the story. Put together Davidson King's storytelling expertise is chuck full of tears, cheers, and heat that guts you to the core and then heals the soul leaving an entertaining gem in it's wake.

I love this story so much. Finch has a heart of gold, and from the moment he laid his hand on a scared young boy named Milo, and told him he would take the pain away with the words “hurt me not,” I was in love. The world Davidson King built in this story feels so different than other stories where supernatural beings integrate into human lives. I think the difference is that even though Finch is Fae, he doesn’t just come in and “fix” everything. It’s a real story, with real problems that aren’t just wished or magic’d away. Finch being a compassionate and caring nurse, especially with children and the elderly, is one of the things I loved most about him. And his very human reaction to Milo’s father, Easton, is romantic and heated. Finch loves with his whole heart and protects fiercely. He doesn’t just fall for Easton, he falls for the whole family, which is forbidden. But the heart wants what the heart wants, and Finch and Easton fight for their love. One of the trigger warnings in this story is childhood illness, and normally that may have prevented me from reading the story, but Davidson King is one of my favorite authors, so I had to read Finch and Easton’s story. I’m so glad I did. Davidson King is an exceptional writer and the story left me feeling warm and fuzzy inside. Another sign of a great writer is having compelling side characters that leave you wanting their stories too. I would love more of Finch and Easton, but I would also love stories of Finch’s siblings. The women in the story are awesome too, with Finch’s mother and her first in command being fierce women who are fiercely protective of Finch and all he loves. I highly recommend everyone read Finch & Easton’s story!

Easton is a firefighter, single father and widower whose life is thrown into a tailspin when his son Milo needs serious medical support. Enter Finch, the best nurse in the hospital who can ‘magically’ make a patient’s pain go away. Of course, Finch is anything but a regular nurse - he's a Fae who has chosen to live in the human realm to spread his version of peace as much as possible. Over the course of Milo's treatment and his getting to know Easton and his daughter, Tru, Finch begins to form a beautiful bond with the Kooper family. The problem? It goes against Fae law and there are members of that community who are very keen to take Finch down.

I like the light versus dark premise in the Fools Pass world and how it intersects with the Fae realm. It's a fairly straightforward but very effective concept on which to hang the storyline. Easton and Finch are truly likeable MCs. I also really like the portrayal of all the ‘goodies’ and ‘baddies’, and of the Kooper children. Milo and Tru, together with Easton - and Finch as he gets closer to them - make a great family unit. I love how they're all so protective of each other. As their romantic relationship develops and the threats get ever closer to home, Finch and Easton’s approach to the difficulties and dilemmas they face is well written, too. Then, in parallel with the MCs falling deeper for each other (I also like how Easton’s bi-awakening is handled) the tension level ramps up and the action really begins, meaning there's little angst but plenty of jeopardy. For me, all of these elements combined make for a properly entertaining read. 4.5*

Easton Kooper is a lieutenant at the Fool’s Pass Fire Department and a single father since the tragic death of his wife. I loved this story about the coincidental meeting between a man and a fae and how they were unable to resist the pull between them. I loved that Finch cared about the humans he worked with and that he was able to use just a little magic to ease their pain. It was great to understand some of the rules between the fae and humans and also the dreams by Easton and his son were very telling and relevant to the story. Some emotions and feelings during the intense parts of the story were easy to feel. This was an MM story with just a little mature content.

Standalone. Paranormal urban fantasy. Single dad. Hurt/comfort. Instalove. Found family. Dual POV. Heed content warnings.

Firefighter Easton is a widower with two children that are his whole world, so when his son is diagnosed with a health disorder Easton fears the worst. Finch is a fae that lives hidden in the human world working as a nurse, and he feels a special connection to Easton and his children, being with them brings comfort and solace to them all. Their attraction is mutual, immediate and strong, and Easton and Finch quickly decide they are willing to risk anything in order to be together.

The world building gives enough background for Finch and the fae world to sustain the story but what I really enjoyed was the connection and relationship that grows between Finch and the Kooper family, that felt especially romantically magical. Easton embraces his feelings for Finch with no hesitation and Finch falls deeply for Easton, unable to forgo the chance at love. A story with a real found family with supportive characters and likable main characters that was a fun read. 4.5 rounded up

Hurt Me Not by Davidson King is a new urban paranormal romance about a single father and a fae Prince.

Finch Brighkin is a nurse who has lived in the human realm for many years. He is the son of the Queen of Light and the King of Darkness. He is able to live with the humans but must never love them. I’m not really sure why. He is threatened by his father and brothers but it is never fully explained. Maybe because he would have something to lose?

Finch is a nurse who is really good at helping people get through painful procedures. He meets the Kooper family who is trying to navigate a mysterious illness of the youngest son, Milo. I really liked the Kooper family and Easton and Finch did have chemistry. I would have liked to have seen a little more of the romance.

It was a really enjoyable story. I hope we see more of this world and the people in it. I want to know what Finch and Easton will do about the difference in lifespans. There’s never a resolution there which gives me hope that there will be more. Plus, Finch’s brother disappeared after the big fight. So a few loose ends that hopefully will be addressed in future books.

I loved everything about Hurt Me Not by Davidson King, from the gorgeous cover to the very last page.
This is a beautifully written love story that will capture the reader's heart!
Easton is a widower with two amazing kids. His world is shaken when his 10 year old son Milo is diagnosed with an illness. At the hospital he meets the most caring, loving nurse Finch, who immediately bonds with this family.
Things are not all that they seem and the love and commitment these two share is challenged by the very evil that Finch has feared.
I loved the dark vs light component of this story. It truly shows that no one is ever just one but it matters what you choose to do with each that determines who you are.
The world building is top notch and sets the mood for this wonderful story. I immediately dove in for a reread and I know I will revisit this story again!

story of Easton and Finch

This is an urban fantasy romance, featuring Easton and Finch, and is a standalone book.

Firefighter and single dad Easton Kooper is struggling after a call from his son’s doctor—until a kind nurse named Finch offers help. Finch is actually a Fae and as they grow closer, love puts them both in danger from powerful magic and strict fae rule.

I absolutely loved this book. It’s was sweet, emotional and fantastical. The descriptions
of all of the fae characters were so well done, I could picture everything, it was beautiful.

I wonder if this standalone though would turn into a series.

Things to expect in this book are:
Standalone
MM romance
Urban fantasy
Human x Fae
Firefighter x Nurse
Single dad
Sick child
Opposites attract
Hidden identity
Forbidden romance
Some spice
Bit of fae drama

There are few authors that I could as automatic reads and Davidson King has become one of this authors for me. Her stories are always heartfelt and intriguing. Her characters pull you into their world with welcoming arms, whether you want to be there or not.

This was an emotional roller caster. You are barely meeting the characters when Easton gets heartbreaking news about his son, and the story truly begins. Easton is a singe father and slowly begins to relay on Finch, his son’s nurse. Easton and Finch have to navigate their roles separately and together to make any relationship work.

A definite must read.

I sincerely hope there is more to come in this fascinating world because I’m hooked! Easton is the best dad ever and I’ve fallen in love with him and his family, and Finch is truly magical.

“His tongue tasted like wine and memories I’d never known I craved. My heart beat against my chest as if it wanted to be free to tell the world this man was everything.”

Easton, Finch and their beautiful family will pull you in, make you feel, and leave you smiling from ear to ear. I loved everything about this, from the magic of finding hope when you think there is none to the knowledge that love knows no bounds.

I flat-out ✨r e f u s e✨

I don’t accept this being the only book. I refuse. You can’t make me. I’ll be sitting here with my angy face, twiddling my thumbs, waiting with extreme impatience for another book.

If it’s futile, so be it.

This was so good I honestly can’t think of any way to explain it. It was just g o o d. So good. I wish it would’ve been longer because I need more. Sweet, great story, amazing characters, so fluffy… both the fantasy and romance that were gentle and warm, even when the big and bad stuff crept in.

5/5. We need more books like this in the genre. Please give me more of this perfection.

Easton, a widowed firefighter with two children, finds his life transformed when he learns that his son, Milo, has Evan's syndrome, an autoimmune disease. Amidst this challenge, Finch, a fae nurse with a compassionate heart, enters their lives. Their bond deepens as Finch cares for Milo, and Easton finds himself falling for him. Despite no conflict between them, their unwavering love shines through, along with a surprising twist in Easton's story. Tru, Easton's daughter, adds to the warmth of their family dynamic. The book is romantic, sweet, with some angst, action-packed and we get to see both sides of Finch, the good and the bad. The book had my attention from start to finish.

Meant to be

A really great family who falls on hard times and grief but all it takes is one person to bring in the light. When Easton's son Milo is brought to the hospital for tests it brings with it the fear of loss. Finch is a nurse and Fae who has the magic to remove pain and fear which is what the doctor ordered. Instantly a bone is formed and love is inevitable. Milo is a relatable character (Jack) which has low white cell and platelets count. For two years I have been treated for this as I was waking up and finding new bruising on my legs. My levels weren't as dangerously low as Milo but reading and relating to him made him more special to me.

Thank you for the ARC, I voluntarily give this an honest review. Easton was wrecked when his wife died but to now have his youngest sick was just heartbreaking to read. Lillte Milo was a champion of the emotional vibes that sucks Finch right in to the whole family vibe that seemed to be a longing he never really knew he needed. After all with family like his who wouldn't be pulled into a loving envelope that is Easton. Butncan they make out the other side of the storm that is brewing when falling for a fae.

This book weaves together some interesting world building (a Fae meets a firefighter and his children, cue some intriguing overlaps between urban and fantasy) some solid character development (Easton and Finch are both likable, well-developed characters, and it’s easy to see the care that develops between them, as it is to see the bond Finch forms with Easton’s children). There’s some intrigue and some peril and plenty of feelings and it all makes for an immersive and enjoyable read. 4.5 stars.

What a beautiful story and I absolutely love the.cover. Easton’s wife passed a few years ago and was raising his children by himself. When his son gets sick and need to be at the hospital, they met Finch. Finch is a fae who needs to hide as humans cannot learn about them. As he gets closer to Easton and the kids, they get closer and start a relationship. There was a lot of action as well as Finch’s family was after him and the Kooper’s. I know it is a standalone, but would love to read more in this world.

What an absolutely beautiful story. My heart ached for Milo, he was so young but yet he dealt so well in his way with what had to be frightening. And Finch with his gentle caring ways surely made things better for Easton, Milo's dad. A truly loving and caring relationship and watching it develope was so awesome. Finch's family were another thing entirely, and really came close to damaging the whole thing. If you enjoy fairies and humans and all the wonder that goes along with them I highly recommend this book.

The strings of hearts were pulled!

Finch, an etherial fae prince that chooses light and love. He is the embodiment of a true caretaker. He chooses to be a nurse so he can help and ease people in pain.

He finds he can’t let go of the Kooper family and especially the hunky firefighter, Easton.

I Love love love that Easton didn’t have this big dramatization of realizing he felt attraction and affection for Finch. He rolled with the punches and embraced it head on. He didn’t questions it or berate himself, he just loved! And I think that’s beautiful!
