An unsatisfying continuation of a good story

Author uses past tense in a lot of cases that needed present tense. Was and were instead of is and are most commonly.

MC makes mention of goals he wants then completely ignores them never mentioning them again.

Author changes previously established events from book 1.

MC without explanation or reason starts referring to himself in the third person as well as first person in the last portion of the book.

MC who has shown to give no fucks about the new freekans throughout the first book and 98 percent of book two all of a sudden without explanation or reason desperately contacts them to save them as if they are his friends instead of contacting just the few people he actually cares about.

Author sometimes writes sentences that are cut off too soon and are seemingly cut in half.

Overall these things creates nonsensical gaps or story breakfown that are never explained or accounted for making it seem like the author is either using ai to write the book, has other people writing the book with them or is unable to keep track of their storylin, personalities of characters and proper tense and sentence structure.

The first book was very good, but this second book is splintered and at times nonsensical or contradicts previous bits of story. The personality of the writing often seemed to shift or change as if the author didn't remwmber the previous portions of the story or there were other people writing certain portions of the story.

If these things were cleaned up it would be as good as the first book however as it is now this book breaks the illusion of the story and instead of being a fly on the wall of the characters lives I'm a fly on the wall of an author or authors struggling to write a story that is smooth and coherent.

It's alright

This story is frustrating because it's very close to being good.

The prose is stilted and awkward and the cast of characters just keeps growing and then getting wiped out in ways that are disorienting. There are no real stakes because the Tree doesn't ever really feel threatened.

It's a bit too long with a bunch of dead space where nothing really happens. I'd call it slice of life but it's more like reading someone's tech path in StarCraft.

The upsides?

The author is prolific, their imagination is pretty incredible, and when things are actually happening they're pretty interesting.

Degraded

Would have been 5 stars if it didn’t fall into the same hole as a lot of this genre- at about 30% through the editing drops off and continues to go downhill all the way to the end of the book. Some sections are so mixed up that it just makes the book confusing, with the MC directly contradicting itself regularly. Parts become unreadable and turn what could have been a great book into a headache. For the love of all that is good please PLEASE pay for a proper editor!!!

Book two

The story is getting better. Not feeling so scattered and all over the place.
The editing is worse though and sometimes the writing feels stilted.
I'll post the mistakes I marked on Goodreads. It's by no means all of them.
Since the story continues over on Royalroad I will head over and keep reading.

Glad I didn’t drop it

So the first 40% of the book sucked. The main focus was on developing a sewer system and trees that could process feces. That’s about it. To be honest I could probably have skipped that whole portion and not really missed anything important.

Luckily things picked up when the demon king returns and ultimately culminates in an awesome cliffhanger ending. So cruel!

Good story, but the typos got really bad

Good things first.
I really like the story. I'm enjoying it a lot, it has a nice balance of combat, politics, game stuff, and the characters are likeable and distinct.
Will definitely continue.

Bad stuff.
From book 1 to book 2, the narrative style is a bit halting and stilted. I thought it was an author choice initially, but this book I can now see it's lack of proof reading and editing.
The typos get really bad about halfway through, and then names of things, places and skills start getting changed. I assume these are just clear typos that were then not fixed. Then it starts happening in dialogue which made some sections difficult to figure out what was happening.

Hopefully this improves with a bit of TLC, and still giving 4/5 as this is really fun to read so far!

Hero system is buggy

Aeon is still as fascinating as before, and he's growing up. I know he plans to meet other spirits, but I personally think he's special. He kind of breaks the system similar to how the heroes do. I'm disappointed in Alexis. At the same time, if Aeon just told Meela and her the truth, or at least Meela, then I think his experiences after an incident might have gone better. The heroes are all meh. The fact that Harris discovers the need for tea only reinforced my opinion that they're glorified puppets. At least Aeon/TreeTree/Matt skipped that. Huge cliffhanger, but I can see this becoming a huge burst of strength in the next book. I really need to read the next book.

Rough around the edges but still enjoyable

This is an improvement over the first I feel in terms of less episodic feel too it. I mean there’s still time jumps all over the place but it doesn’t feel as disjointed as the first did in that regard. There is still a general roughness to it and there is still obvious signs of its original form but I could overlook them.

Is it highbrow, immaculately edited literature with a beautiful prose? No. Is it fun if your into reading about a amoral tree living his life tending his forest? Absolutely. I had a great time with this book and have decided to just skip ahead and read the rest on royal road now.

Bad Ending!!

I tend to rate a book based on how the story gets to me and the way it ends. This book had such a terrible ending. I can see how the next book will go with the main character spending most of his time trying to lift the curse that was placed on him and trying to redo everything he did in this book. At this stage I’m not sure if it’s worth reading any more of these books. This book was very slow throughout the first half and middle part only picking up speed towards the end, and then it had a terrible ending.

Fascinating but slow

The fascinating thing about this book continues to be that the main hero is a tree. However, this book has moved away from the first in that it is also focusing on the tree's chosen champion, so that there is more variety in the story.

On a happy note, my least favorite character is removed...yay!!!

Be warned that there are a lot of weird grammatical mistakes that are sometimes painful to figure out what the sentence should read.

Great developments happening here

It’s interesting to see that Aeon is beginning to lose some of his connection to his human life. As this happens, will he become less engaged in the lives of those around him?

Will the events of this book lead to Aeon being further able to cleanse demonic influence? Or is Aeon on track to becoming a demonic power amplifier?

Well, that was much darker than I expected! To be fair, what happened was always on the card based on the history of demons and it could've been even worse. Still, I would've enjoyed it better if the damage had been much lesser. It also didn't help that the main character's personality was undergoing changes and there are mysteries yet to be revealed.

fun

It’s a great continuation and I love the world. It does need editing; there is heavy verb tense confusion that throws off the pacing until the reader gets in the habit of mentally substituting the correct word. It is usually dialogue written in past tense when is should be present tense.
Massive cliffhanger at the end. Looking forward to the next one

Still has an intriguing point of view.

This is not what you would expect, certain choices do not make sense but they fit into the narrative. This is a bit of an oddball, but still very fun.

Great story

Being a tree is tuff. The story follows on from book one with the MC still building but starting to have identity crisis. The story flows well and is entertaining. Reincarnated as a tree lol.

I really loved the two first books in that serie, it's differrent from most fantasy/isekai I read. Having a tree as the MC, a timeline spanning years(centuries even) make for a complete change of space.
I already preordered the third tome !

Never thought reading about a tree would be that entertaining.

Next book would be chaos from chapter one. I wonder how this will work out.
It would be like starting over from scratch.

Treerific

Excellent continuation of the series!! MC is cunning but logical, the other cast members were good and build up the MC. World building is by far the best. Unique take on heroes and demons!

What a cliffhanger!

I normally hate cliffhangers, but since the next book is already out it mitigates the issue. But the book is quite well done, if you enjoy reincarnation tails I suggest you give it a try.

I’ve been waiting for this

Started rereading the series again and the ending of this book is truly where I couldn’t wait to get again. Immediately moving on to book 3 where things are really about to get interesting 😏
