The Flight #1

Aspiring fantasy erotica novelist Ruben Eberly lived a mundane existence up until the moment he uncovered his wife's infidelity. Torn between familiarity and an emotion driven venture into the unknown, he runs into his long lost best friend Paul McKenzie, only to learn he is terminally ill and planning one final road trip to celebrate his life, culminating in his expected death in Alaska. When Ruben agrees to join him on his adventure, unexpected feelings begin to arise on both sides, complicating the trip and forcing Ruben to decide between maintaining their friendship and keeping his future loss minimal, or seizing the moments they have left in a romance that's doomed to end in tragedy.__________He took a deep breath, and held out his hand in front of me.

It didn't take a millisecond for it to begin shaking, starting off barely noticeable before violently defying his attempts at keeping it steady.

"Tremor started about a year ago," he took his hand away and returned to his beer, "turns out, I have a brain tumor. About three months left if I'm lucky."

I paused, a dribble of beer spilling from my lip as my world crashed down around me for the second time that day. I looked him in the eyes, his face was blank, his eyes were half-lidded, pupils stuck just to the right of me, avoiding a head on collision with my own.

I felt cold, then hot. The initial shock faded away and grief ripped through me like a cannonball shot straight at my chest.

I choked back tears and held my mouth to keep a cry from spilling out.

He just kept staring at the bottle next to me, his eyes glancing at mine every few seconds until I finally worked up a response.

“Can’t they- can’t they do anything about it?”

“When they found it, it was already too advanced for most options. They told me that starting chemo could possibly prolong my life by at least a year, but I knew that I wasn't going to spend the rest of my life in a hospital. If I was going to die anyway, I was going to die the way I wanted to, not the way some doctor wanted me to.”

That definitely sounded like a Paul decision.

( This series contains graphic sexual scenes, mentions of CSA, drug and alcohol use, and themes of suicide.)

great read!

Pretty good book. If you’re into LGBTQ+ material I would give it a recommendation. Best enjoyed with a beer :)

This is the first of the 2 books This then Jade Eagle. The books are made for the LGBT community and erotic plot. It has friendship, depressed and relationships related to the life of the mid adult community. I enjoyed Jade Eagle but wish I read this one first. Read Ruby Bird first for sure.
