Smutty? Yes! Draws you in? Absolutely! Yes it starts off with the taboo but it twists into a heartfelt story. Read in 1 day because I just could not put it down! Not give a 5 b/c still so many questions about the side characters, hoping that there are follow up books regarding the other characters (give me rockstar story line please!) which I would absolutely get into. Loved
✅ Sweet virgin FMC who has a backbone ✅ Experienced Possessive Hero ✅ Hockey/figure skater ✅ Step-brother ✅ Teach me ✅ Dirty Talk ✅ No Cheating/OW drama(OM drama tho)
I feel like we were dropped into the middle of this story with them having YEARS of past history that we never get to see. We're supposed to believe they never really interacted and seemingly "hated" each other during that time, but yet that's never really addressed and it seems like they go from having a frustrating step-sibling relationship for years with each other, to suddenly so hot for each other they can't function, yet H has been sleeping with other girls in front of h for YEARS. There didn't seem to be a real catalyst for them to suddenly be into each other except h suddenly mentions she's a virgin and asks H to teach her.
I did love the FMC, I thought she was great, if a little TOO unbelievably naive and oblivious. H was almost bi-polar in personality, sometimes he was great, other times he was a straight asshole. The side characters were fun and I didn't feel like they overwhelmed the story too much, but I have to say, why do the tolerable heroines always have a terrible best friend you just want to punch? I have no desire to read Cam and Trystan's book, One because I dislike Cam, I think she made some shitty selfish choices, was a bad friend and is too desperate for someone who isn't that into her. I disliked the way she's stringing Owen along when it's clear she isn't into him. It's also kinda weird that all these adults live in their parents home, but I guess that's just kinda Gen Z.
Also, while the foreplay and dirty talk leading up to them FINALLY having sex was hot, the sex itself lasted 3 paragraphs, was boring, anti-climatic and over WAY too quickly considering how long we waited for it and the fact it was the h's first time. I was very disappointed by this. Good sex after all the great chemistry and build up would have added a star to the book I think.
So much about this book should have added up to more than 3 stars for me, but as with past books by this author, the execution is weird and messy. I think she's trying to make things maybe more unpredictable so she comes up with these odd ball 3rd act twists? Instead it pretty much kills the romance of the story. I'd rather it be predictable and romantic, than have an unexpected twist, especially when they're not all that unique. I did really appreciated the fact that the FMC was able to be sweet, kind and forgiving, while still knowing her worth. I thought the way she saw that he wasn't willing to get over his fear and truly commit to her and walked away. Everything was pretty good up until that point, but that's where the story kind of lost me, and I stopped rooting for the H. The way the MMC didn't have the balls to man-up IMMEDIATELY and claim her when he knew he was going to lose her was a turn-off. He let her be with another dude for 3 weeks and would have still probably not said anything if she hadn't had a dumb accident that put her in a coma for 5 days. The whole "memory loss" for such a convenient amount of time was eye roll inducing. It was hard to be excited they ended up together in the end. I felt like in a lot of ways, Alex would have been the better choice. He showed up every day for a month with no expectations and was more than willing to step-up and be there for her in a way the H never was. He had a maturity that the H didn't possess and I'm not really convinced he had his shit together, even in the end. I also felt frustrated that we don't really know the extent of her relationship with Alex, we don't know if they slept together or were just hanging out or what, it's not explained in detail and we just have to kinda guess.
I think it's interesting because the plot line is very similar to "Say you swear" by Meagan Brandy, but with the FMC ending up with the original dude instead of the new dude. I feel like this author may have read that book and been upset she didn't stay with the original guy and so she wrote this as an alternative story? At least I know for sure now that Meagan Brandy made the better choice and I really do think that once Jax didn't step up and Alex did, that should have been it for Jax. He lost his chance and it wasn't like this was the first and only time he fucked up, this was just her being DONE with his fuck ups. He waited too long to address his issues. The accident and memory loss twist made it feel...cheap or inauthentic. Like they didn't end up together because he worked through his issues and stepped up in the way that he needed to, he just got scared and reacted out of fear. That's not the right reason. That's not true change and no matter how the book played it out, it doesn't *feel* like he learned what he needed to learn to be a good partner. I don't feel confident in their long term longevity.
All in all, it wasn't a waste of time, but I was disappointed in the overall story and would have liked to change a few things. I don't have much of a desire to read more of the series, I may come back to Owen's book some time, but I think that would be about it.
I really wish Goodreads allowed half stars, this is definitely sitting between 3 and 4 for me, it wasn’t amazing but it was better than what I usually rate as 3⭐️
Taking this for what it was, I loved it. It’s a little trashy, easy to read, the spice was spicing, I loved the high drama and I was rooting for the main couple. I actually really liked all the characters and if the author wrote more within this world I would definitely pick it up.
There were definitely flaws through the book and the writing was juvenile at times, all of which I was willing to overlook because the reading experience was overall enjoyable, and this was heading to a 4 star. BUT within the last 10% of the book I was hit with my least favourite trope and it does spoil the whole book for me.
This was a cute book. If you can get past the whole step-siblings ordeal it’s pretty cute. Jaxtyn is afraid of commitment and his motto is to bang them and make them leave. He never brings the same girl home and never promises them anything. Kaia is more sweet and wants a relationship with someone and that someone to commit to her. Jax has always been in love with her and never wanted anyone else to have her. I feel like this book was beautifully written and tasteful given that it was step-siblings. It didn’t really focus on the hockey aspect but more on the relationship with Jax and Kai. You also get a glimpse of their family and friends. I really hope Michaela writes them a book as well, I would love to read their stories.
Really great read. There were a few times where I had to shake my head, and a few times I wanted to throat punch someone, but that's what makes this a great read. Any time an author writes a story that pulls you and makes you feel so invested in the characters that you feel what they feel, you get angry, sad or even scared on their behalf, you know you have found a fantastic read. I really enjoyed it and I look forward to reading more in this world/series.
***There's already a spin-off called Wicked Sinners on KV, as well as a follow-up story called Dirty Little Mistake. I'm loving Wicked Sinner and looking forward to reading Dirty Little Mistake.***
I really like michaela writing From when i read her novella in kindle but not sure why this story was not as good as i thought it was going to be My fav parts where besically the las 3 chapter and epiloge they story line and begining where not it for me or the writing was not that catchy for my reading but overall story was not that bad ... either way i will still keep reading from this author and i think there is cams story coming up so lets see if thats better tha. This one
Author needs to work on details and consistency. Dave became Craig. Jumping between characters in same paragraph. At the end the hero was signed with North Carolina Panthers but in the next chapter it's The Red River Renegades lol The story is good. She just needs help with honing her craft
4.5 ⭐️. The spice was spicy and the story was really good. The will he wont he got a bit much but she took no crap and it seemed really relatable…. Except for the whole step sibling thing. Definitely will read the next book when it comes out.
I love taboo so I was already invested in this one. While I hate sports romance I do love hockey reads. So it had that as well. This was well done flawed character secret romance and great friends. It had everything including an HEA. Worth the read.
This book will have you Clinching your thighs together and wiggling around in your seat. I truly enjoyed reading this book. If you loved My Fault By Mercedes Ron then you will love this.
