Love and hate. War and lust.

Ellesandra: For five hundred years, I've been alone, serving as the second ruling Queen of Minalis. Though the crown that rests upon my brow beckons me to end this thousand-year war, I cannot. Because of him. The enemy, the mirror of my soul. If he gets his hands on me,I'll never know

Felix: For five centuries, she has run from her destiny beside me on the Risian throne. She has run from me. Unfortunately for Ellesandra, my patience has run out. While the spoils of war are sweet, I only require what is already mine. Her.

I wanted to love this. I almost DNF but kept hoping for more but sadly didn't get what I was looking for.

My major issues:
. I wanted more world building.
. Overall the pacing felt off to me.
. I did not like that the first basically half of the book is one pov and then switched to dual pov.
. Several phrases were reused multiple types such as the air being pregnant which began to annoy me.
. The FMC remained completely unlikable to me.
. Miscommunication is my least favorite trope and that's all this is.

Let’s just get into it. The only reason this book got one star is because of Felix and Sianna.

The timeline is very confusing and the MC is just a horrible person and an alcoholic. This girl is willing to let her whole country die to avoid a man. AND THEN BLAMES HIM. She genuinely only cares about herself and she says it repetitively. She feels no guilt for any of the bad things she’s done ever and act like all of her choices are everybody else’s fault. She has no remorse for the fact that children are dying in her army. even the people she supposedly cares for like her guard and her maid lady she only thinks about when they are in her face. She never asked about them. This entire book is way too long for the very minimal plot points. I know it’s supposed to be a trilogy, but I feel like this could have been shoved into one book. Also there are very many times in the book that the paragraphs are repetitive, and the descriptions are unnecessary. I could forgive the poor writing and lack of editing if the main character wasn’t so insufferable herself. The Author made a comment about it resembling ACOTAR and I’m guessing she was meaning Nesta. HOWEVER, at least nesta had redeeming qualities and felt guilty for how she treated people. Nestas backstory made sense for her character and NESTA WAS A CHILD. This MC is 500-609 years old.

TRIGGER WARNINGS should be added for people who have an eating disorder because the MC definitely does. Also the only “Fae” part of this book is them being old af. No one cares that a Queen of 500-600 years hasn’t bothered to master her powers? Odd.

WHERE IS THE PLOT!?

The fact that Felix knows she’s a selfish POS and still loves her is insane to me and gives me the ICK.

The fact that the general Alexander Soldato who loved her and she has been banging for many years was murdered in front of her and SHE NEVER BRINGS IT UP AGAIN! Wtf?

She willingly slept with him knowing after Felix killed her last lover and was going to do the same to him.

Here are some quotes that gave me the biggest ICK.

The MC is a HUGE narcissist:

“ it’s almost amusing how his heart softens at the side of me”
Could this main character be any more condescending and just straight mean?

Sianna pauses her ministrations. “I didn’t know,” she says quietly, the conviction of her words telling, “any of this would come to pass.” I know it’s unfair, but I’m unable to quell my rising irritation. “But it has, hasn’t it?” I twist around to face her. “And in the end, it’s not your future that has been stolen, nor your kingdom that’s been brought to its knees by a madman. Whether you knew or not is of little consequence. I must pay the price of your naivety. NOT YOU BLAMING OTHER PEOPLE FOR THE CONSEQUENCES OF YOUR ACTIONS!? And she thinks she is right to blame Sianna. “My anger gives little care. Harsh as my words may be, they’re the bitter truth.

“In the span of less than a fortnight, I’ve fallen from the grace that was Queen Ellesandra’s formidable reign.

LOL formidable? Your whole kingdom hated you and threw stones at you. AND YOU SMILED AT THEM WHILE THEY DID. Not only did your council want you to give yourself over, your people did. And then you killed them for it.

“Now, I’m nothing more than a woman in need of saving from a madman.”
tbh that’s all you’ve ever been. You need saved from yourself.

WHERE IS THE ACCOUNTABILITY!?

“I loved him, freely and without condition.”
Obviously not if you don’t love him now lol

I received an ARC for an honest review.
Ella was such a refreshing fmc to read. If you're tired of cookie cutter main character's, you might like her too! Ella is obstinate, self assured, and tough without losing any of her femininity. She knows exactly what she wants, and nothing can stand in her way, often to her own detriment.

On the other hand, we have the mmc, Felix, who is devoted to a fault, and willing to be downright cruel to whoever he needs to be if it will make Ella face him again. He knows her better than anyone else, even if she would never admit it. Who doesn't love a dangerous simp?

It was really refreshing to read a book with such well realized leads. They might not always be likable, but I was entertained with every word, and by the end, grew to love them both. The voice for each of them is beautifully crafted and I can't wait to read the second book and see where their stories will take them.

I really enjoyed the writing style, world building and attention to detail in this book. Everything was so vivid, I could imagine exactly what was being described. I liked the main characters but did have a hard time with Ella, the FMC. She was incredibly stubborn and apathetic throughout, and even though we learn why, she was a bit difficult to love. Besides her mercurial behavior, I enjoyed the plot, action, tension and spice of this book. I look forward to reading what happens next.

Born into enemy kingdoms but destined to have their souls tied together for eternity, Ellesandra and Felix have been at war for over five hundred years. She wants to be left alone to rule her Kingdom as the cold-hearted Queen, he wants to rule both kingdoms with his rightful Queen beside him.

What I liked:
- I think TRUE enemies to lovers combined with the fated mates trope is really hard to pull off. I was so impressed with the author's unique ability to incorporate both the loathing and hate with the underlying bond and lust.
- Laurin has very descriptive writing that was really captivating at times.
- I loved this take on fated mates. I loved the visceral responses from the main characters when they were separated vs when they were together.
- The inclusion of Felix's letters - always love that

What I didn't like:
- while I did enjoy the writing, at times it felt a bit convoluted and took me out of the story, leading me to reread paragraphs to remind myself what was actually going on. The phrase "the organ beneath my ribcage" instead of "my heart" was used a couple times and is just one example that stood out to me.
- the pacing felt off, just a bit too slow and I don't feel there was enough payoff at the end
- similar to the pacing issue, the book felt a little disjointed with the first half being single POV and the second half being dual POV. I wish it would have been dual POV throughout.
- ***SPOILER***
I tend to like unlikeable FMCs but the ending of this felt like one big miscommunication trope which is my least favorite trope to read. I understand she was consumed by grief after the loss of her mother but you're telling me over the course of hundreds of years the FMC couldn't be bothered to have one conversation to clear the air? That was frustrating to read after the slow pacing and all the buildup to finally learn what happened to make them stay enemies.

This ends on a "does she/doesn't she?" cliffhanger that definitely has me interested to see what happens next. I am hoping there is more to Ellesandra's story to redeem her character a bit in book 2.

I had the pleasure of receiving an ARC copy of this book. If you’re a fan of fantasy romance, you will love this book!

Ella is such a perfectly flawed and relatable main character. She’s stubborn, guarded, and impatient with a soft spot for wine and sweets. I only wish we could have gotten know the soft girl underneath her walls who feels everything too deeply a bit sooner into the story.

The story starts a bit slowly, but the world the author sets up is vivid and interesting. I especially love the way she’s woven starlight into the world! I mean lakes of starlight? I’m sold!

There’s some really pretty prose throughout but where the author really shines is in how she writes Felix and Ella’s interactions! The tension and banter are chefs kiss! And the spicy scenes are smooth and super steamy!

Felix is an absolute heartthrob of a shadow daddy!!! The chapters in his perspective were my favorite and the letters had me swooning!

Overall, it’s a great fantasy romance and the two main characters are so alive and interesting. I can’t wait to see where the series goes!

Okay, I spent most of this book irritated with the FMC, and frequently yelling at her. This book had me crying, the ending had me frustrated, and yelling no do not do it. Needless to say this is a fantastic book, I wish book 2 was out now. I can say if I had found this series after it was completed, and the next books are like this I would binge it.

This Fantasy Romance is a emotionally intense read. This is an Adult Fantasy Romance with adult language, and themes.
The Romance in this one is a slow burn, enemies to lovers.
This book is spicy. The spicy scenes are descriptive. There also is spicy language throughout the book.
The book moves at a quicker pace following a battle, and rekindling of an undesired bond between the MCs.
The characters are extremely deep, and emotional. It is very easy to get lost in their stories.
The world building is complex, and interesting. This is a definite page turner, and a book you wont want to put down.

“To see her smile, I’d drain the seas. If it meant her laugh would grace my ears again, I’d crush the moon and the stars in the palm of my hand, never mind the darkness. To hold her heart? I’d see the realm engulfed in flames and disintegrated to dust until it is only her and I that remain.”

Review:

I wanna start by saying thank you @hklaurinauthor for sending me an advanced reader copy.

The writing of the world building was great I truly felt like I was there. The story line was breath of fresh air and truly unique. All the characters were well written and had personality.

Ella is a the epitome of Morally Grey she might even be more than the MMC. She is flawed and stubborn and is a true Queen.

Felix is hello Shadow Daddy/Fae that is portatryed as the horrible, conniving King who loves Ella beyond measure. He waited 500 years for her and he is ready to have ALL of her.

Felix’s devotion to her is 🥰 and Ella’s stubbornness, some moments she might have gotten on my nervous and I wanted to jump into my kindle and slap her across the face to make her wake up and see what was standing in front of her *cough* Felix *cough*

If Felix looked at me with the gorgeous blue eyes and just smirked at me I would have been on my knees crawling and begging for his touch and his shadows touch 🤭

I loved read the letters Felix wrote to Ella

That ending cliffhanger UMMM… Miss Laurin I need book 2 like yesterday! Can’t wait to read more of Ella & Felix’s story.

✨ARC Review✨

⭐⭐⭐⭐ for Crowns of Resemblance by H.K. Laurin

I thoroughly enjoyed this one! While this a romantasy, the world-building is easy to follow and blends seemlessly into the story, meaning I didn't have to go back and forth to figured out what stuff was. The prose is beautiful too, though a slight bit repetitive with the whole mirror soul thing, some phrases definitely made me swoon!

While marketed as an ememies-to-lovers story, I find it also hits notes of the second chance trope, because it's actually a lovers-to-enemies-to-lovers type of storyline, with a cliffhanger ending so be warned!

My favorite part though? Felix. He's the possessive, feral, obsessed with her Shadow Daddy of my dreams; he's an absolute goner for her, and the letters he wrote her?! So romantic! The pining this man does is just *chef's kiss*.

I liked Ella's character, even though she's portrayed as arrogant and regal, even cold, she's done what she had to to survive and makes no excuses for it. I do wish we'd seen more of their history together, but I'm excited to see where this story goes next!

Thank you to the author for a copy in exchange for a review. All opinions are my own.

First of all thank you so much @hklaurinauthor for this ARC! It was so much fun getting lost in the world you created!

If you are new to fantasy or you want to try out fantasy this would be a great book to start out at! The world building is very well done and easy to follow! The characters in this book are honestly so much fun to read about and follow their journey!

I'm a sucker for a good enemies to lovers trope and this hit it on the nose! Felix and Ellesandra have such an interesting dynamic that you just get sucked into! We LOVE a MMC that helps our FMC be able to feel again and allow her to feel those emotions!! 👏👏👏 To say I was routing for her to let go of her hurt and give Felix the chance to be with her was an understatement, I think I audibly said it out loud a couple times! And if that's not enough reason for you to give this book a read then I have two words for you: THE LETTERS 😍. He wrote to her EVERYDAY for 500 years, COME ON!!!!

Also, I just really need to know what happens in the second book because this cliffhanger is killing me 😅

Well done 👏

Firstly, thank you so much H.K. Laurin for the ARC🖤

The magical world that she quickly immerses you in is incredible. Her writing is so descriptively beautiful and plunges you right into fantasy.

The magic system and elements through out the story was such an interesting take.

The letters from Felix allowed us to see his intentions, emotions, and grief. His literal soul was crushed for 500 years.

But Ella is such a strong FMC, always staying true to her snarkyness.

I wish we had a little more dialog, a little more tension/slow burn. But other than that I liked it!

AND THE CLIFF HANGER????!!!!

Bravo to this debut author for a very eloquent and intriguing Romantasy novel. I was quickly swept into the world created and the story really picks up steam - in all the ways - when the MMC’s voice enters the story. I was thoroughly invested by the end and can’t wait to read the next book in the series. Thank you to the author for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

If you love the words to dig deep and take root...

5 ⭐️

From the beautiful way that HK Laurin weaves her words into such poetic sentences, to the deeply damaged and beaten characters, this book will leave its mark.

Ellesandra is downright awful, or so she would have you believe. She has to be in order to survive her grief and status as the Queen of a people she was forced to reign over too soon.

King Felix is every bit the obsessed and barbaric man we all secretly (or not so secretly) desire.

Everything was so detailed that it was hard not to feel like the story was playing right in front of you like a slow motion movie.

This is so good from start to finish! A Debut that reads like the Author has been writing forever!

Edit: Finished the book yesterday.

I love Ellesandra and I kind of don't like Felix. I don't know if I missed something due to how I was feeling. I know they have the 'bond' and they are supposedly destined for each other, but to kidnap her and make her accept everything he offers, that's just absurd. She has choices of her own and grief has no timeline. I still even understand Ellesandra's sentiment when she found out the truth.

The letters made me swoon, though. That part of him was what I was looking for when he was with her.

Anyways, I still devoured it even when I had a hard time with the writing style at first. Still can't wait for the next book because that was an unbelievable cliffhanger. 😩

Received as an ARC from the author 😁 My first one at that. Excited to start this now!

H. K. Laurin’s debut Romantasy is gorgeously written for all the readers that live for enemies to lovers and spice!

From the beginning the strong independent Ella who has done what she had to do to survive and the possessive, obsessed, dark Felix left me pushing for a happy ever after. The letters though are what kept me reading for the next one. Their dynamic was unhinged in the best way and the pinning do not get me started!!

I am so grateful to have been a part of the ARC team and am so excited to read on when book 2 comes out! H. k. Laurin shows so much passion and enthusiasm for her characters and world-building, which is proven in her easy to follow and swoon worthy prose. She will surely be an author I continue to follow and excitedly wait for more!!

Some of my favorite things include Ella's sense of worth, love of her body and sexuality. Felix's devotion to Ella. All characters are beautifully flawed, I can see their redemption.

My absolute favorite thing was the letters Felix wrote to Ella. 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌

Tropes:
- Enemies to lovers
-Touch her and die
-Fated mates
- Strong FMC

Trigger warnings, there are a lot, so please be sure to read them!

Thank you, H.K. Laurin, for the opportunity to read about Ellesandra and Felix.

I loved the dynamic between the two MCs—one pushing, the other pulling, placing them at odds despite the bond. Ella, fighting it every step of the way. Felix is an obvious favorite because who doesn't love a devoted shadow daddy? I look forward to seeing where the story goes and how the bond plays out.

My thoughts on ‘Crows of Resemblance’:

This was my first delve into dark romance fantasy, as I am not usually drawn to the themes typically found in this genre. However, "Crows of Resemblance," generously provided to me by the author H.K. Laurin before its release date, handled them exceptionally well.

• The magic system's twist on the fated mates trope in "Crows of Resemblance" caught me by surprise. The ‘soul mate’ concept was taken to a literal extent, showing that the main characters couldn’t find peace without each other. It was like their twisted personalities needed each other to survive.

• This story beautifully tackled the shades of gray in morality. As I delved into the characters' lives, I found myself justifying their actions and even questioning my own morals. They were all flawlessly flawed, making it hard to take sides, which I absolutely loved because, let’s face it, life isn’t black and white.

• While I craved more tension and slow burn between the FMC and MMC, I get why it wasn’t there. In this particular context, expecting sparks to fly at every moment would be unrealistic. I had to cut them some slack.

• Felix’s pettiness knows no bounds, and his actions drive the plot in unexpected ways. Starting a whole war just to have Ellesandra become his? His manipulative behavior unveils Ellesandra’s character development, shedding light on the reasons behind her actions and adding layers of complexity to the story.

• One of the most gripping scenes for me was when Ellesandra had an anxiety attack. It wasn’t a happy moment, but it was written so vividly that I felt like I was experiencing it myself. The representation of anxiety in the story felt authentic and added depth to Ellesandra's character. It's refreshing to see mental health portrayed realistically in literature.

• The writing in "Crows of Resemblance" is incredibly descriptive and lyrical, effortlessly immersing you in its world. There's minimal dialogue, as the author's descriptions skillfully convey the characters' emotions, intentions, and more.

I have had the opportunity to be an arc reader for this book and I have no words… This book truly is so beautifully written.

I honestly haven’t read a book this fast in a while and I am so sad that it is honestly done already. Ella is such a special FMC. To see all the troubles and fight throughout the book. It truly was emotional to see her thought process through it all. It creates an atmosphere readers can truly relate to. Though I really wanted her to just give in to it all. I understand her, the fear of what could come after all the time of being someone she had to be. I love her and the strength she shows as a woman.

Of course there is Felix. Oh Felix… I love how obsessed he is of Ella as he should be. Though , the patience and hope he had throughout all the walls placed with Ella truly hit my soul. I truly love how he would go to any extent for you. And only for her he would bend his morals and ways. I love him already.

Can we talk about the letters !?!?? I could feel everything in every. single. letter. The desperation, the begging, the longing , the anger, the love. Everything. I LOVED the letters and how they were incorporated into this book.

I can’t wait to see how Ella and Felix’s story unravels. I also can’t wait to see more of the world and how their powers can weave together and they are mates and truly meant to each other. The author did a wonderful job, I truly am obsessed with this book and I know others will be to once they read this.

So grateful to have been given the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this! Thank you so much H.K. Laurin!

When I first started reading I found the plot a little slow and I did not find the main character to be likable. Although I love a strong FMC, I appreciated the growth and backstory as to why she is the way she is, and definitely hope to see more as we continue in the series. The plot line picked up after a battle sequence and the addition of the MMC point of view.

The world building was very immersive, I loved the inclusion of the map and the playlist the author made to pair with the vibes of the book (found in the front of the book, available on Spotify).

As for writing style, I think that H.K. Laurin does an amazing job providing detailed information. Though it is very eloquently written, I did find some of the language to be repetitive. Much of the story is told from the FMC point of view via inner monologue, I would love to see more dialogue amongst characters in the future to help really sell the importance of the relationships. Over all I think this is an amazing story about a strong woman, on her journey to learn her strength and that her emotions are not her downfall, but rather the source of her power.

Also the cliff hanger at the end?!?

Congratulations H.K. Laurin!

I had the absolute privilege to be the developmental editor for this debut novel, and then binge read it post-edits and WOW. I knew this book was special the second Hannah sent me the sample/prologue. Her writing is elegant and descriptive and makes the story so tangible, her characters are flawed and rich, the plot is engaging and shocking, and the true enemies to lovers trope absolutely HITS.

One of my favorite parts of Crowns of Resemblance is our FMC. She is flawed, she is prideful and stubborn, she is ruthless and, at times, cruel. She has become the kind of queen she feels was necessary to survive and i absolutely love it. Our MMC is possessive and equally ruthless—I’m obsessed. I appreciate that no characters in this book are innocent. None are blameless. And i absolutely cannot wait for book two to see what Hannah does with each of them!!

My second favorite part of this book: THE LETTERS. Full stop.

DISCLAIMER: while i received compensation for the developmental edits of this book, I in no way receive any reward or compensation on its success. This review is unbiased and true, void of any favor or exchange in return.

Thank you to the author for an ARC in exchange for a review!🥰

This book did not disappoint 🙌🏻 especially as a debut novel, H.K Laurin ATE with Crowns of Resemblance. The main thing I noticed while reading was the beautiful writing and incredibly descriptive details that transported me right into the world. The world-building was easy to follow along, the settings had clear imagery it was like watching a movie, and I thought the pacing was pretty well done 🫶🏻

Ellasandra is a flawed and relatable FMC. She is badass, strong, stubborn, and resilient. She acted like a true Queen, but I wish we got to see a bit more of her soft side so hopefully in book 2 there is more of that!

Felix is portrayed as this terrible, ruthless King who is bonded to Ella, but in reality is a love-driven man that has patiently waited for the love of his life to return to him (500 years to be exact). He is obsessed with Ella and is the definition of “Touch her and you’ll die.”

I can’t wait to see more of their story and the world in their kingdoms. I think H.K Laurin is going to be a new auto-buy author for me 🤭

I picked up this book randomly from my tbr jar and I'm glad I get to experience this book. This is a very interesting take on faes. But I wanted more clarity on what kind of faes they are and what powers did FMC possess? The world building was good but could have been better. The first half of the book was quite slow and the main characters hadn't even met. MMC was just mentioned intensely. Now I didn't like FMC that much in the start and by the end also imm still skeptical about her. Now the MMC does quite a few questionable things which you might not able to digest for the FMc to come back to him. So he is the darker shade of grey. The story got more interesting after the 50% of the story. Also, the writing of the author could have been better. There were lot of repetitive lines which grated my nerve. It could have been better worded. I will give this book 3 stars because while I didn't like the characters but I liked the unique story. Since this is her debut book I beleive and the first book of the series Im willing to move forward with series. Maybe we will get more action and redeemable qualities for FMC.

Thank you to HK Laurin for a free ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I’ve been a part of the street team for this book and let me tell you the anticipation and sneak peeks we got did not do this book justice.
For a debut author H.K Laurin has nailed her first book. It has angst, it has betrayal, it has mystery, it has enemies to lovers, it has touch her and you die. What more do you need a book? Well Crowns of Resemblance has all that and more.

Our FMC Ellesandra is a headstrong, confident woman, who conceals all her emotions behind a mask.
Our MMC Felix is an arrogant, and obsessed male, yet hopefully throughout the story.

This book is beautifully crafted, it gathers you in and takes you on a journey feeling everything Felix and Ella are feeling.
Despite my yelling at Ella to give in already as I was so enamoured with Felix. I truly appreciate where H.K Laurin was taking us and I am counting down the days to see the next part in Ella and Felix’s story.

Crowns of Resemblance by H.K. Laurin is a refreshing twist on the fated mates trope, blending love, hate, war, and lust in a dark, captivating fantasy. Ellesandra, the second ruling Queen of Minalis, has spent five centuries evading her destiny alongside Felix, the enemy who is her soul's mirror. Their dynamic kept me hooked, and it was intriguing to see such a complex take on the usual fated mates storyline.

While there were moments where I struggled to like the FMC, Ellesandra, I appreciated how different she was from typical protagonists in this genre. The darker elements of the story and the intense chemistry between her and Felix made this book stand out. If you’re looking for a fantasy romance that steps outside the norm and dives into a deeper, more conflicted love story, Crowns of Resemblance is worth the read!

I received an ARC for an honest review.

Ella was such a strong, flawed, beautifully well written character. She was a breath of fresh air to the romantasy genre, and her dynamic with Felix was one of my favourite things to read. The world was immersive, certain lines of prose would catch me off guard and have me going back to read them again, marvelling at how well crafted they were, and the letters were so incredibly poignant and added such depth to the story that I found myself reading them several times over.

H. K. Laurin’s passion and drive throughout the creation of this book was nothing short of inspiring, and I honestly want to thank the author for allowing me delicious glimpses during the writing of it. Can’t wait for book 2!

4.5 !! Holy cow, I loved this book. The anger, the love, the back and forth is all incredible! The ending has me all torn up, and I can't wait for the next book! The only reason this book didn't get a solid 5 stars from me is because Ella frustrated me at times, but I also 100% see where she is coming from, but also FELIX! ALL I NEED TO SAY IS FELIX AHHHHH !!!

Ugh I love a good enemies to lovers

I looooved the banter in this. Enemies to lovers vibes always give the best back and forth convos. I loved the fated mates aspect and that draw they had to eachother even when hating eachother.

Some of Felix’s lines had me giggling and kicking my feet 👀 sharp tongue. Loved the way he knew Ellesandra.

As somebody who’s not much for fantasy romance of any degree, I wanted to find a book that’d help get me more introduced to an unfamiliar setting. I chose H.K. Laurin’s novel, Crowns of Resemblance, because I wanted to support another indie author and her debut. Let me start off by saying that it certainly did not disappoint with immersing me in a new world.

The story itself follows an interesting premise of centuries of war being waged between the two love interests, both of which have their own degrees of qualities of flaws. Ellesandra is a more callous and self-driven character, but it’s honestly a personality that I don’t see be executed often, let alone done well. Laurin, however, did a great job of portraying an ice-queen that doesn’t allow the destiny-bound love for Felix to take control of her wishes. Speaking of, Felix certainly hits the marks in terms of morally gray values, and any reader who enjoys an MMC that attempts to “take what belongs to him” will definitely find some charm to his character. People that enjoy enemies-to-lovers and snide romance will take a liking to these two.

As for the language, it’s eloquently put. The imagery used for the scenes, especially for the chapters closer to the ending, were quite mesmerizing to envision. A couple other descriptions I admired were of the dresses, action, and uses of magic throughout. The vocabulary is also diverse and appreciated, as someone who has a knack for elaborate words. I had a difficult time putting down the book the past couple days as I read through dozens of pages in one sitting.

My only real complaint? The ending leaves you on a cliffhanger, and it crutches me to know how the story between Ellesandra and Felix will end, and more so of their past. As of writing this review, I’m aware a prequel is being developed, so I’m even more quite curious to know how these two even came to be.

Overall, I’m quite happy that I picked up this book. It gave me insight on the fantasy romance world, especially of the dark realm. If you’re looking to support an indie author who’s putting in the utmost time and work, definitely give Crowns of Resemblance a chance!
