With this triumphant work, Greg Cote proves again why he is considered the Mark Twain of South Florida sportswriters. His signature droll wit and dry humor jump off the page with a wistfully lyrical delight. This collection is fun for the whole family, as poignant and refreshing to little Joey as it is reminiscent and sardonic to Grandma McGillicutty. Greg Cote is a humorist icon, And ya know it!

Book reviews! There used to be a time when book reviews were primarily the domain of the highbrow newspaper section, carefully guarded by someone who had crafted this out as a career for themselves. They earned their stripes by consuming book after book, and by taking their viewpoints and carefully crafting them for the reading pleasure of the few.
The only other place that could meet such commitment and love were bookshop employees, who upon occasion would put together quick thoughts, lovingly handwrite these onto a piece of card and place it next to the book they had reviewed.
Now anyone can write a review on an online bookstore, without as much as a thought to confirm they have read the book!
To open things up further, there are sites like Goodreads, where anyone can review a book. They don't even need to prove they bought it! Who really cares that Tony Dobson on Goodreads loves "Back In My Day" by Greg Cote?
Push back against the overflow of reviews, seek out a physical bookshop or an actual newspaper, and get those reviews the way we used to.
I'm not Greg Cote, but that might be how he'd talk about it, back in his day.

As a long time listener to the Dan LeBatard show, iv always enjoyed “Greg Cote Tuesdays” and his appearances on the show. His “back in my day” segments have always been an enjoyable touch of nostalgia. Even though I’m closer to his son Christopher’s age, I still remember a lot of his nostalgias that were prevalent in my youth through my parents and grandparents use of them.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Greg’s book, even if alot of them were repeats of segments Iv heard on the show over the years. It’s always fun to take a trip down memory lane, especially when there is good humor in it. My wife often makes fun of me for bitching and moaning about the advancements in technology making everything worse so it was not a far stretch for me to relate to a lot of these comedic quips.

It’s a quick easy read but it’s a good time nonetheless. Thanks for the trip down memory lane and putting a smile on my face Greg

This is an incredible little book, given to this 78 y/o man by his 40 y/o son. It consists of multiple two and three page stream of consciousness vignettes revolving around past experiences vs.current practice. It’s one laugh after another. Not a page went by without my desire to call the author and compare experiences. His presentation was similar to that of Jean Shepherd’s nightly radio show from Chicago in the mid 60s.

I enjoyed the book because I experienced everything he refers to. My son enjoyed it because he experienced everything he compares “ back in my day” to.

I think any age will see the humor presented but a baby boomer will be incredibly amused.

Greg, you have done it again!

This book feels like the segment “Back In My Day” but with a loving eye all from start to finish. This will be a coffee books of coffee book! (Another piece that has been lost and something that could be another BIMD)

A fun, nostalgic read about how everything worked before the big changes came in technology and done with humor. Enjoyable light-hearted read.
