This book gives a clear understanding of the work of Doctors Without Borders so that people can understand what they do. It also has a glossary , links and other book suggestions. It also has thought provoking questions to discuss with readers.
Good intentions in the topic, but I think most students would not approach this book without a research need or some sort of connection provided by an adult. The colorful design draws the eye, and sidebars prompt students to think about issues such as poverty and health services. Maps could provide students with a better understanding of the world wide connections. I would like to see the other books in this "How Do They Help?" series to compare the coverage. There are some confusing statements/paragraphs in the attempt to make a complex topic accessible for youngsters. There are only three chapters, and the glossary could be much longer - it does not include 'vaccination' even though this word is described in a caption. The photos are often vague.
A great educational beginner reader book that introduces children to poverty stricken countries and what is being done to help them. Doctors Without Borders is a group that help countries in need in the areas of malnutrition, diseases and epidemics. It shows children how we can help others who are in need.
