It took a family loss to draw artist Leddy Finster away from his retreat in the woods of rural Wisconsin back to the family home in Carlisle. Originally intending to help clean out his father’s condo and return to the peace and quiet his work requires, he doesn’t expect old feelings for his brother’s best friend to bloom again after all this time. Nor could he ever have expected his father’s obsession with shoes… lots of shoes.
Professional hockey player Johan Weiss spends his summers in Carlisle, where he grew up. As a favor, he agrees to help Leddy clean out his father’s condo and get it ready to be sold. Working together, they list the hundreds of pairs of shoes for sale, getting reacquainted while their mutual teenage crushes renew into full-on attraction that they each try to resist.
Johan’s life is busy between his home in Carlisle and his place in Philadelphia with the hockey team, while Leddy believes he needs quiet and solitude to work at his best. Their needs seem incompatible with each other, but Johan demonstrates that he’s able to make room for Leddy as well as provide inspiration Leddy never expected. All Leddy has to do is decide if home is the woods or where his heart is.
In the mood for a quick brother's best friend read? Look no further than Andrew Grey's Head Over Heels. While this book begins on a sad note - with the unexpected death of Leddy's father, it's a sweet and steamy read as Johan and Leddy explore a romance they have both wanted, but were reluctant to start... and also build a bridge towards bringing Leddy and his brother together in a more understood way.
Novella length, and fairly low angst, Head Over Heels was a lovely, quick read, perfect for a spring afternoon.
❤️🔥🥅🏒🎨🖼️🧑🎨It’d been a while since I’d read this author books, so I jumped on this when it went live and loved it from start to finish.
Leddy, 24 years, was an artist when he gets a phone call telling him he needed to be home for his father's funeral after his sudden death. Johan, 28 years, was friends of Leddy's older brother and had a silent crush on Leddy. Johan was a pro hockey player which meant he had to travel away for games when the season started soon.
A great grief scene as Leddy crumbles as he reunites with Johan once again after years, they had a really beautiful connection that Leddy could do this. Scenes playout and Leddy and Johan have things to get past. Leddy has anxiety issues which have him living in the woods away from everyone. Johan has resentments from his parents and Leddy which he’d felt left out and jealousy issues growing up. Head over heels is a fantastic book to read, I loved the emotions that come through with the characters especially with their dialogue. Includes both POVs with an HEA ending. Sexy scenes with switching, also city vs country vibe with a small separation for the characters.
This is a short reunion type romance, since the characters already knew one another. It's a feel good, maybe a little rushed story about loss and finding a dream come true. Enjoy.
Beautiful story of Leddy and his older brother’s best friend from childhood Johan.
As a fellow artist, I love books with an artist mc and I love ice hockey and childhood friends to lovers so this had everything.
I loved Johan and how patient he was with Leddy, understanding of his anxiety issues and life as an artist. I also liked how he was straight forward with Aaron and didn’t put up with his insecurities.
It was fairly quick paced, didn’t drag on and I was able to read it in one day!
How can two men love the same guy so much that they are afraid to tell him about each other? How can a best friend since third grade not be able to tell the person closest to him the secrets of his heart? It was hard keeping their growing relationship a secret and they felt guilty about it.
The younger brother's social anxiety grew worse while in college in a large very busy city. Leddy realized that he needed peace and quiet to pursue his love of creating beautiful works of art. So he found a secluded cabin nestled in the woods that barely had Wi-Fi service.
What a stark difference his brother's best friend was. A brawny, friendly, and outgoing hockey player for a professional NHL team in Philadelphia. He loved traveling around, meeting fans, and checking someone against the plexiglass. He was there for the brothers when their father suddenly died. As he helped Leddy clean out his father's condo the attraction between them reunited.
Leddy accompanied him to Philadelphia for a few days and while it wasn't easy he stuck it out in order to spend some alone time with his hockey player. By the time the younger brother and the hockey player's best friend realized something was building and deepening, neither wanted it to end. but Leddy had to go back to his cabin.
What was he supposed to do? He had commitments that his agent and an art gallery were waiting for. Besides Philadelphia was just too much. But he found he missed his hockey player more than the solitude of his cabin.
As I mentioned, I loved the development of the main characters and minor characters as well. Love was made based on solid knowledge of the two main character.
Thoughts: This was a standard Andrew Grey gay romance. It’s a short, quick read that will entertain. Leddy is an artist who has secluded himself in a cabin in the woods of Wisconsin. He’s comfortable there. Safe from the noise of the world. Then the worst happens, and his father dies, and he’s forced to go back home where he not only has to deal with grief, but his brother’s jealousy. His brother’s best friend, Johan (a professional hockey player in Philly), comes to his rescue. The men discover they’ve had crushes on each other for years, but Leddy isn’t sure he can handle being back in a city, or even a town. The two have a lot to deal with including their increased attraction while dealing with the death of Leddy’s father and all that entails. But there is a HEA that satisfies.
Recommended for those looking for a short, somewhat hot, M/M romance.

Destination, Carlisle, Pennsylvania, Leddy and Johan ! Awesome characters.
Leddy, 24, a full grown man now, brown eyes and his hair flops forward, he's an artist in demand, has severe anxiety and to function, he's moved to a cabin in the beautiful woods. His father has died and he's back for the funeral and settling things, with brother, Aaron.
Johan, 28, Professional Hockey player, deep blue eyes, big and strong, with blonde hair. It's summer and he's in Carlisle, and helps Leddy cope with the sadness, because they are old friends.
At every turn Johan is there for him, and Leddy finally admits he's loved Johan since they were teens and BFFs.
Things move forward with many talks, Leddy and Aaron have issues to deal with, and Leddy and Johan have decisions to handle. They begin with a slow burn in bed, hot sexiness, are vers, and passion. It a profound love they have discovered.
tbh this is more like a 2.5 for me but leddy is my kindred spirit to a spooky degree so i can't treat him thaaat harshly. couple of my fave leddy moments: - "i moved away into the woods where everything was so much simpler, and the entire world doesn't seem to press at me all the time. but maybe i'm just hiding in case i'm not good enough." he shrugged, wishing he knew. - him rearranging his own art on johan's walls 🥰
May you have a Johan in your life. The death of Leddy’s dad brings his teenage crush—his older brother’s best friend—Johan back into his life. Johan understands Leddy, a talented artist, in ways few do. Enjoy how Johan and Leddy handle their grief, new discoveries and their joy just being together as well as joining in more steamy moments!!!
A slightly different storyline from the average hockey theme, but one that is well crafted and smooth. Good character development, no angst and no confusion required. Ends as hoped, with a promising future.
Its achingly sweet but so wonderful too. Fast paced enough n that you aren't bogged down, but slow enough to enjoy them develop even if it has been painstakingly long in coming it always just feels right. Enjoyable read!
Simple love story of childhood friend of lover brother falling together with issues of anxiety. Sweet, rushed story, that is almost too short with very little conflict and family drama that happens long before the book starts.
Such a beautiful story about childhood friends. Leaving and coming back home because of a family emergency is so hard and takes time to process and heal.
Artist and hockey player, doesn’t seem like a likely pair, but when the feelings start before you know your life professions. Love never dies, but lives change.
This is a sweet romance between to guys that had secret crushes on each other as kids. Leddy has anxiety issues and prefers to stay in the country in his cabin where he can do his art
Johan has a place in his hometown of Carlisle but also one in Philadelphia where he plays Hockey. It's summer and he's home when Leddy has to come down for his father's funeral and help clear the condo.
If you like a sweet, slow burn , secret crush, brother's best friend, small town romance this is for you.
