Buck Madison thought a fixer-upper cabin in a bucolic Virginia valley would be the perfect retreat. After his wife and child died in childbirth and a bruising escape from the FBI Art Crime force, he just wants to build a new life in a mountain cabin near his hometown where nothing much happens.
But his PI agency partner has an art conservator cousin, who’s just finished retouching a dubious Matisse painting. She is found dead in the grass outside a fourth story locked room. Buck and Lacey Martin, a gorgeous international auction house curator must identify the killer, one of her friends in Washington DC – or a hired assassin. Racing against time, they need to untangle the painting’s mysterious allure for the killer to stop further murders before becoming the killer’s next victims, in this thrilling and seductive mystery.
