A Wedding in the Sun

Four exes and a wedding. And a road trip no one expected… Jo Watters would rather do anything than go to her ex-husband Ben’s wedding to perfect Monica, and if it wasn't for her beloved children she would already be far, far away. But having promised to be civilised for the sake of their soon-to-be-blended family she is headed to Spain with a fixed smile and hoping for a very fixed drink!

But when Jo realises that she’s on the same plane as Monica's ex-husband, the devastatingly handsome but equally cantankerous Adrián, she thinks her trip can’t get any worse... she’s wrong. When bad weather forces the plane to land the wrong side of the Pyrenees, and the hotel they’re sent to only has one double room available Jo begins to wish she was anywhere - anywhere - but here...

Determined to get to the wedding however they can, Jo and Adrián make an unlikely team, but as their disastrous trip continues, Jo starts to wonder if fate has other ideas for her and Adrián, especially when he seems to be getting more handsome by the day…maybe this trip won't be so terrible after all?

Enjoy the perfect summer escape packed with good times and sunshine, romance and laughter. Not to be missed by fans of Jill Mansell, Mandy Baggot and Sarah Morgan.

4 exes and a destination wedding... what could go wrong with that?!

Much to Jo's dismay, she’s heading to Spain to attend the wedding of her ex-husband Ben to Monica. It’s the last place she wants to be, but she’s promised to go for the sake of her kids and their soon -to-be blended family. She finds herself on the plane to Spain with Monica's ex-husband Adrián who is also attending the wedding. Jo isn’t exactly fond of Adrián due to their past disagreements in the PTA, but when their plane is forced to land on the wrong side of the Pyrenees due to bad weather, they end up teaming up to make it to the wedding on time for the sake of their children. Unfortunately, they encounter several mishaps along the way and end up spending more time together than they anticipated.

A Wedding in the Sun is a cute enemies-to-lovers rom-com with an original premise. While the book mainly keeps a lighter tone, it addresses some significant topics such as starting over after divorce and the impact divorce has on the children involved including the addition of step-parents and step-siblings. These topics were handled very well and were realistically portrayed throughout the story. The evolution of Jo and Adrián’s relationship never felt forced although it did progress rather quickly considering the book takes place in a very short period of time. The setbacks along the way became a little OTT and excessive for my taste, but I liked the way Jo and Adrián handled each issue. I especially liked the way their children’s emotions were dealt with and addressed. In the end, I liked Jo and Adrián as a couple and wanted them to make things work. Overall, it is a cute beach read. This was my first Leonie Mack book but I am definitely interested in checking out some of her previous books. 3.5 stars 💫

My thanks to Boldwood Books and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

I've read a few of Leoni Mack's books, and I love the feel-good factor and armchair travel involved, as well as the hefty dose of romance and tension within.
A Wedding In The Sun is no different in those areas, but there is a totally different kind of enemies-to-lovers/forbidden love scene going on here.
We are given a dual POV of Jo and Adrián, two people being forced to go to the wedding of their exes to one another, and a calamitous journey that should have taken a couple of hours lasts days, with so many unfortunate incidents peppered throughout, including a storm, lost luggage, a lift with Godspeed bikers, hospitals, the police, that it is a miracle that they arrive at their final destination!
But you come to love Jo, a woman of a certain age who has finally realised she needs closure and to learn to live for herself, too.
And Adrián would light a fire under anyone, let's be honest. A Spanish longhaired hunky dude who plays guitar and is a fantastically loving father, on top.
Throw in two temperamental teens and a young child who is filled with confusion, seeing his divorced parents develop different lives adds more layers.
Oh, and the fiery Catalonian temperament of the Spanish family gives it a good sprinkle of heat, too!
Beautiful descriptions of the different places they have to stay, as well as the simmering tension between the two, make this a fantastic read.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for an ARC.

A Wedding in the Sun is a sweet, enemies-to-lovers, hilarious Rom-Com.

The story is messy, funny, and full of extreme happening to two exes who are attending the wedding of their two other exes. Adrian and Monica have no interest in going to the wedding, but when they find themselves on the same flight to Zaragoza, it's the start of a chaotic road trip they will never forget.

The book features a perfect road trip gone wrong with two people who initially hate each other but slowly warm up to each other. Overall, it is a decent read perfect for the summer -The "enemies-to-lovers" trope felt believable, bringing the ideal tension for the only one-room scene. In a road trip book, this was a must.

Content: language cursing, innuendo.

I’d like to thank Boldwood Books, NetGalley, and the author for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review!

the story and concept of this book was way to funny! The side characters were honestly my favourite part! I DIDNT really feel the 2 mains had any connection in my opinion. It all felt so forced.. the chemistry was basically non existent.. I wanted to really like this one because there were so many moments I did laugh out loud! But the rest just wasn’t really for me.. if I don’t connect with the 2 main characters I just won’t like the story!

I had so much fun with A Wedding in the Sun, or rather, A Gazillion Accidents in the Sun. Literally everything that could go wrong, did go wrong in this book, and it was so entertaining. I'll be honest, when everything goes wrong in a book that often really frustrates me, but here, I loved seeing the way Jo and Adrián handled everything and how every accident and misstep made their connection grow. Both of these characters felt incredibly real - not romanticized, but like actual people who might remind you of people you know. This is the perfect funny, relaxing read to put on your summer TBR.

A Wedding in the Sun by Leonie Mack is a delightful summer read that takes readers on a journey filled with romance, laughter, and unexpected adventures.

The story revolves around Jo Watters, who reluctantly travels to Spain for her ex-husband Ben's wedding to the seemingly perfect Monica. Jo's plans for a quick and uneventful trip are turned upside down when she finds herself on the same plane as Monica's ex-husband, the charming yet irritable Adrián.

As fate would have it, a series of mishaps, including bad weather and a hotel room mix-up, force Jo and Adrián to team up. Despite their initial antagonism, the pair embark on a road trip across Europe that is as hilarious as it is heartwarming. Leonie Mack's talent for creating vivid settings and complex characters shines through as Jo and Adrián navigate their past grievances and present attractions.

The story has original plot, emotional depth, and the genuine development of its characters. You will find yourself completely absorbed by the story, highlighting its ability to evoke both tears and laughter. The romance between Jo and Adrián is described as believable and compelling, with a slow burn that makes their eventual connection all the more satisfying.

Mack's writing is a masterclass in balancing tension and tenderness, placing her characters in challenging situations and skillfully guiding them to a resolution that feels both earned and inevitable. The backdrop of sunny Spain adds an extra layer of charm to the narrative, making "A Wedding in the Sun" a perfect escape for those looking for a blend of escapism and emotional resonance.

Overall, "A Wedding in the Sun" is a testament to second chances and the unpredictable nature of love. It's a book that promises and delivers a feel-good experience, making it a must-read for fans of contemporary romance and travel adventures.

A Wedding in the Sun was a quick and enjoyable read. I really liked both of the main characters, who felt so imperfectly human. While they are going through some incredibly difficult situations and are understandably stressed, over time they are both able to admit to their flaws and accept each other as they are. Both characters go through a lot of growth as they process the grief from their previous marriages ending. Despite so many things going wrong on their journey, there’s also a sense of optimism about the positive experiences they wouldn't have had otherwise. I loved the adventure of the road trip, from the Pyrenees mountains to the beaches of Spain.

Thank you to Boldwood Books and NetGalley for the advance review copy of A Wedding in the Sun! All opinions in my review are completely my own.

If you’re not reading Leonie Mack books, YOU ARE MISSING OUT! If you’re looking for an author who writes beautiful characters in gorgeous settings, lots of love, and moving plots, YOU’RE WELCOME!

Here, Jo is heading to the absolute last place she wants to be: her ex-husband’s wedding to a beautiful and younger woman in Peñíscola, Spain. Adrián is in the same boat, as it’s his ex-wife who’s marrying Jo’s ex-husband, and he’s on the same flight. But they’re sucking it up for the sake of their kids and who knows why else. When their flight makes an emergency landing in France, the adventure begins….

LOVED this book! Another Leonie Mack gem. You know the drill for a road trip mishap book, but this one was so much more. They see each other at their best and worst, support each other, understand each other, take time to enjoy each other, and just have a beautiful time in spite of all the obstacles. It’s absolute magic!

10 days of wild, road-trip mishaps lead to true love in this slapstick romantic comedy

Jo Watters is a 46-year-old, attractive, British, IT specialist. She has a 17-year-old daughter and 15-year-old son from a 14-year marriage to her ex-husband, Ben, which ended five years ago when he cheated on her. In the years since, Jo has focused on her children and her career and avoided dating.

Adrián Rivera is a 42-year-old, Spanish, professional musician, who plays classical guitar. He has a 7-year-old son from a 10-year marriage to Monica, a flamingo dancer, whom he met when they were touring with the same company. Since the birth of his son, Adrián has concentrated on achieving a steady income via a job as a caregiver at a residential facility for old people and has rarely performed onstage. Their marriage ended in divorce two years ago, and Adrián has not been on a date since. He and Monica share joint custody. His son attends the same K-12 private school in London as Jo's two children. He and Jo met when both participated in the school's parent/teacher association several years ago. Jo thought Adrián had a lousy attitude during his one-year stint as a PTA volunteer and developed a resentful dislike of him.

The focus of this story is the wedding of their exes to each other. It is not clear how Ben and Monica first met, but Monica is currently planning an enormous wedding with the celebration stretching over seven days in Monica's hometown in Spain. Ben and Monica, naturally enough, want their children to attend all of the wedding events. The three children are already there with them in Spain, and Jo's daughter has been stuck with babysitting the 7-year-old, who is quite a handful. Ben and Monica have insisted that their exes, Jo and Adrián, attend the wedding festivities as well, and Monica's father has also insisted that Adrián play the guitar during the wedding. It has not occurred to either Jo or Adrián that they could refuse to attend this wedding extravaganza, especially since Jo's marriage to Ben and Adrián's marriage to Monica were simple, civil ceremonies at a registry office, and neither one of them has ever enjoyed attending an elaborate wedding, under any circumstances. Jo and Adrián encounter each other on the same plane flying from London to Spain and, when the plane is grounded in France because of bad weather, they are stranded in the middle of nowhere, with no public transportation and no rental cars, when the bus to go back to the plane the following morning leaves without them. This unlikely pair of opposites, grumpy, control-freak Jo and sunshiny, go-with-the-flow Adrián, endure unending, hellacious misadventures in order to make it on time to one of the initial and most important events of bridezilla Monica's huge wedding festival. Adrian refers to their adventures as, "two hospitals, a police station and a wedding."

This novel contains the following romance tropes:

Middle-aged lovers
Opposites attract
Enemies become lovers
Forced proximity
Only one bed
Road trip AKA two for the road
Wedding disasters
Comedy of errors

The plot of this novel is structured similar to wedding-disaster, romcom movies. It is not quite as extreme as the Jennifer Lopez movie, Shotgun Wedding, but very close, minus the gun-toting villains. Unfortunately, unlike a movie, which is wrapped up in under two hours, this book drags on, in audiobook format, for nine interminable hours, with one irritatingly redundant, slapstick crisis after another.

Having said all that, there are some positives in this story for me personally:

1. The story is told from the dual, third-person POV of the FMC and the MMC, like a traditional mainstream romance, which is not something that this author routinely does. The majority of her novels are chick-lit romance, with only the single, first-person POV of the FMC.

2. Adrián is an adorable Cinnamon Roll, who is the best part of the book.

3. Both Jo and Adrián have been celibate since their divorce. I really liked that Adrián is not a typical romance MMC who has been promiscuous after his divorce. And this setup also means there is no OW or OM drama.

4. This is a slowburn romance. There is onstage sex for the first time at 53%, but there is no physical description besides kissing and a mention of undressing. The scene focuses on tender emotions rather than lust.

5. Both Jo and Adrián really step up to the plate and take care of each other when their misadventures lead to actual physical injury.

6. There is a satisfying, well motivated HEA, including believable potential for a happy, blended family, because the three kids have a growth arc as well.

I received access to the audiobook version of this novel for free through Hoopla. The female narrator does a good job.

Balancing out the pluses and minuses of this story, I would rate it 2 stars for the slapstick but 4 stars for the romance, averaging out at 3 stars.

Each book I read by Leonie Mack feels like a new favourite, and A Wedding in the Sun is one of her best. The construction is whip-smart, and the characters are terrific. I could easily picture them as the story unfolded and feel myself relaxing into the hilarious twists and turns.
Jo is a fiercely independent woman who has emerged from divorce with a determination that is impossible to challenge. She is just about ready for another relationship, although walking away from her husband almost broke her. Her life is now organised to ensure everything runs like clockwork and her children come first. She certainly doesn't need the laid-back attitude of the ex-husband of her ex's new bride. She finds him to be unreliable and irritating beyond belief.
The events that started with a seemingly straightforward flight had me in stitches as I eagerly flipped the pages. I could easily envision this story on the big screen, with Jo and Adrián's antics providing endless laughter. As they navigated from one chaotic situation to the next, their witty banter was perfectly timed, and the growing attraction between them was palpable.
Adrián, with his rugged good looks, laidback demeanour, and charming Spanish accent, had me swooning from the start. He was the epitome of a perfect book boyfriend, unflappable even in the face of adversity. But beneath his cool exterior, it was clear that his son's happiness was his top priority, adding a layer of depth to his character that was truly endearing.
I just loved the characters in this book; even the prospective bride and groom were ultimately likeable, even though Monica was not a hit with Jo's daughter! I particularly enjoyed the visit with Carles, Adrián's mentor in the art of Spanish guitar. Such kind people are a rare treat, and I loved meeting them.
If you fancy an entertaining trip across a couple of European countries, some hilarious moments and a real enemies-to-lovers story, A Wedding in the Sun will tick all your boxes. I cannot recommend it more highly.

If you're looking for a feel good romance to read this summer then you don't need to look any further, this has that spark from an enemies to lovers and one bed trope. In the first few chapters we meet Jo and Adrian, who are both on the wedding of their exes, yep you read that right, Jo's ex husband is marrying Adrian's ex wife... You can feel the tension already can't you.

After a previous PTA clash it's fair to say that they don't see eye to eye or think very highly of each other, so imagine the feelings when the plane has to make an early landing and they are left at a hotel overnight, and sharing a room as well.. Things seem to go from bad to worse for Jo and Adrian and it starts to look like they are never going to make it to Spain for the wedding in time, later on in the book it mentions "two hospitals, a police station and a wedding" and that definitely feels like the perfect sentence to sum up this book!

As they spend more time together you can start to feel the tension simmering into a different sort of tension and an attraction seems to be on the cards, however they both know that it can't actually lead anywhere - let alone be on display at the wedding and in front of their kids. The story progresses and we learn more about both Jo and Adrian and I was really intrigued to see how it was going to end as it feels very much like it can't go the way you'd like.

This was a fab story that just oozed holiday vibes - maybe even holiday romance vibes and made me want to keep picking it up and just reading another chapter or two. I can't write this without giving a shout out to Oscar and Crabface though... that guy stole the scene on a few occasions!

this was a hilarious book. it's about Jo and Adrian who are recently divorced and their ex-spouses. Monica and Ben are getting married in Spain.
Adrian and Jo end up on the same flight together and the plane has to land due to weather in the Pyrenees. all the funny stuff starts happening. then when they have to share a hotel room, his guitar gets lost., and there's a slight accident anyway.
Several times throughout in different situations. people think that Jo and Adrian are husband and wife or at least boyfriend and girlfriend and that causes a few laughs also.
it delays them getting to the wedding. they do get to the wedding and lots of funny things happen.
Jo realizes that Adrian was a thorn in her side when they had PTA functions and he won funding for his music over her softball.
She has two children, a daughter and a son and he has one son Oscar who's about 7 years old and is into many funny instances.

The characters are all likeable and seem to be real characters. the author does a great job with this aspect .
There's some romance in here but you'll have to read it if you want to see if Jo and Adrian end up together. she has some doubts because Ben obviously cheated on her and although she likes Adrian, she's not sure about the relationship. will the ex-spouse's wedding happened? stay tuned. I highly recommend you read this. just kept me on my toes. it was a quick read and was hilarious.

This was a fun and interesting concept that ended up a just fine read!

Jo is on her way to her ex-husband’s extravagant wedding when she sees her PTA rival and ex-husband of her ex-husband’s bride-to-be, Adrián. When they run into some weather trouble and have their flight diverted they end up working together to travel across Europe to make the wedding, but mostly to reach their kids who are already there.

The journey is not smooth by any means and while it was a lot of fun, at times it was excessive to the point of being annoying. I don’t need everything to be completely realistic but it did pull me out of the story at time.

The story really picks up in the last ~100 pages and you really feel these characters building a chemistry and relationship that could blossom outside of their circumstances. I enjoyed this book the most once they’d arrived at the wedding and all of the necessary conversations with all parties started happening.

I really enjoyed the way Mack wrote the children in this book. All three of them felt the ages they were described as and like real people with thoughts and feelings.

Overall, I’d feel comfortable recommending this to someone looking for a fun romance with mature characters!

This was a delightful and adorable novel and the first I’ve read by Leonie Mack. A Wedding in the Sun is an absolute must read for anyone looking for the perfect summer travel book, or for anyone looking for a book to read while sitting on the beach, next to a pool, or on a patio.

Jo is less than thrilled to be attending the upcoming festivities and wedding of her ex-husband Ben and his soon-to-be wife Monica. She wouldn’t go if her children didn’t need her as they gain a step mother and step brother.

As Jo arrives at the airport to travel to the wedding, dread fills her as she sees Monica’s ex-husband Adrian! She can’t help but think how strange it is for ex-spouses to be invited for the week long festivities lead up to the wedding as well as the actual wedding.

Dread turns to disaster as the flight is delayed and Jo finds herself stuck with Adrian in the same hotel room the airport set up for them, mistaking them for a couple.

I always love books where women in their 40’s who are divorced with children are shown as strong and beautiful women who still possess passion and love in their hearts. I was rooting for Jo and Adrian the whole time!

Four and a half stars rounded up to five!

When she sees Monica‘s ex Arianne also flying out of London to Spain she does her best to avoid him no one on earth could irritate her more than this loud hairy chested gold necklace wearing corny joke telling Arion but when their flight makes an emergency landing in their only option is to drive she finds herself in the car with him. After mini beach side lunches, five days of traveling,, two hospitals and a visit to a police station somehow this loud man has turned into a caring handsome father who she looks to in the crowd to make her feel calmer Will it be enough for her to let The anger of her first marriage go and how can she explain this man to deck and Liz who are already confused by their dad‘s upcoming nuptials? This book was so good and as she started to see how absolutely sexy Arion was I could see it as well this was such a great book I loved it I love Joe I wish it would have been a movie so we could’ve seen Arianne play and hear him sing either way this was a great book a totally awesome beach read and if you love great romance then you’ll definitely not want to miss this one it was so freaking good! A Wedding in the Sun is a really funny, entertaining story that should immediately be made into a movie. It's like Planes, Trains & Automobiles, except that our main characters are trying to get to a wedding rather than home for Thanksgiving. Jo's ex-husband is marrying Adrián's ex-wife and they are both unwillingly attending the wedding for the sake of their respective children. A perfect summer read - an easy 5 stars.

Such an interesting concept for a book, having the two exes thrown together on the way to their previous partners wedding. Fate keeps them together and it was fun to see their rocky relationship become more friendly as they go through some tricky moments together.
Jo is a mum who puts her children first, stepping up to join her ex as he starts his new life with a new (younger) wife. I loved her independence and ability to get on with things when faced with an obstacle and having to endure the companionship of someone she thought she wouldn’t like.
Adrián was a wonderful character who also was a great dad, and an intriguing person, rugged and intelligent with hidden depths to discover.
It was a pleasure to watch them both change their opinion of each other and become friends. Their forced time together soon causes a sizzling sensation of attraction for each other and it was so compelling to see them become romantically involved with each other.
The travel aspect of the story was fantastic too, Leonie is so skilled at giving amazing descriptions of the beautiful locations that her books are set in.
A perfect book to take on a holiday, it has everything you want in a summer themed adventure, plus a gorgeous new book boyfriend for me to moon over! ❤️🎸

I absolutely adored the premise of this book!
The exes of the exes getting married wind up together. Strange? Yes, but it makes for an interesting plot.
Adrián and Jo have the trip from hell trying to get to this wedding and their escapades had me in stitches.
There was also closure with their respective exes and their kids were figuring stuff out.
It’s a feel good read that demonstrates family messiness but also togetherness as well.

Do you ever feel like anything that can go wrong will? For Jo and Adrian it feels a lot like that. First, the two, who don't like each other at all after an unfortunate run in about Christmas in the PTA, are stuck on the same plane. And then they find themselves on the wrong side of the Pyrenees. They should be in Spain at the wedding of their exes, providing emotional support to their kids but instead they are diverted to France.

When the mishaps keep on coming, Adrian and Jo are thrown together more and more, and they start to realise that maybe the other person isn't too bad. But it's a bad idea to fall for your exes new partners ex. Try saying that quickly twice

I have read a number of Leonie Mack books now and I love them. With all the things going wrong, it could feel madcap, but it doesn't really. Along the way we visit Lourdes, as well as the southern coast of Spain, with a side of history around Spanish guitars.

This is another great read from Leonie Mack. Bring on the next one!

Her ex's wedding is not a small thing. A destination wedding, lasting all week, while her kids are expected to care for the stepson. She is not at all thrilled to be going, but agrees, to help their new blended family.
Then she ends up in the same place as the new bride's husband, and if things couldn't be worse, they land in the wrong place. There is just one room available, and everything that they are married.

She hates him at first, but the more they are pushed together, the more she notices just how good-looking he is and how good they get along...

A truly unlikely pair that find themselves in the middle of misfortune. It's a lovely story, that pulls at your heartstrings with a gorgeous setting.

This is the third of Leonie Mack’s books I’ve read and I’ve really enjoyed them all.

I loved the premise of this one; the ex partners invited to their respective exes’ impending nuptials- I mean what could possibly go wrong?

Quite a lot it seems and way before they even reach the wedding destination!

I loved the way the plot brought so many things together- the separated parent guilt, the grief of losing a long-term relationship, self doubt and then the ability to find yourself again and invite new beginnings.

There is plenty of emotion in this but it is cleverly woven with humour and several mishaps to keep it a light and easy read.

It’s impossible not to like Jo and Adrian and I really enjoyed seeing their relationship grow over the course of their journey to Zaragoza.

A lovely summer read!

With thanks to the author, Rachel at Random Resources and Boldwood Books for the opportunity to participate in the tour.

Jo and Adrián are both traveling with the same airline to the wedding of their ex spouses, Ben and Mónica. But their plane had to divert and they got stranded. Both Jo and Adrian were quite unfriendly at first with each other and I couldn’t imagine why, because if you are so nice as to travel to another country to attend the wedding of your ex, can’t you also be nice towards another human being who didn’t divorce you? Anyway, one disaster follows another, which delays them traveling to the wedding - I would’ve just turned around and went home. (The whole situation with the guitar and Adrian playing at the wedding was a bit farfetched IMO.)
In the meantime, Jo’s children Liss and Dec and Adrian’s young son Oliver are there already and every now and then Liss is calling her and stressing about their father remarrying and using them as babysitter for their soon-to-be stepbrother Oliver. I really felt for Liss; my heart broke for her, feeling neglected and abandoned by her father, fearing that any baby he had with his new wife would replace them. But you also feel Jo’s and Adrian’s hurt and frustration in all of this; their resentment, grief and bitterness. The heaviness of feeling this way but at the same time being forced to watch your ex-spouse get married was evident throughout the book. Very realistic but unfortunately it overshadowed the chemistry between Jo and Adrian.
The book isn’t a light read. A big part of it is actually quite gloomy. Some scenes were heartbreaking for the children. But I think the strength of the book lies in the depth of the subject of divorce, the considerations that are made, the ramifications after splitting up and moving on. I really think many people will see the value in that. It definitely makes you consider the people involved; the children, being a family - it’s not something you can easily discard and move on. And although I don’t agree with some of the reasoning (Jo’s regarding her breakup from Ben), I think many people will appreciate a book that has the guts to talk about the painful parts of breaking up instead of just the apparent bright side of starting over again.

A Wedding in the Sun by Leonie Mack

I received an advance review copy for free thanks to Rachel's Random Resources and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Blurb

My Opinion

Four exes and a wedding - what can possibly go wrong? This is an entertaining read, that will definitely having you feeling like you are tagging along with Jo as she makes her way to her ex-husband's wedding. A highly amusing rom-com. For me this was a relaxing read that I really missed when I had to put it down. With some beautiful descriptions and some relatable characters are you ready to join the ultimate road trip?

As if needing to be a guest at your ex-husband’s Spanish wedding wasn’t bad enough – but Jo really does need to be there, to support her children – she finds she’s on the plane with the new bride’s ex-husband Adrián. They have an unfortunate history with bitter clashes at PTA meetings, and she really finds him quite obnoxious – and he’s already drawing attention to himself with a song and dance about how to transport his precious guitar. But when the flight doesn’t go as smoothly as expected and they find themselves marooned in the wrong country, they’re thrown into closer proximity than either of them wanted or expected – and needing to work together to make it to the wedding on time.

Their road trip descends into total chaos, as everything that could possibly go wrong most certainly does – and it’s laugh-out-loud funny at every turn, and quite wonderful to read. And through it all, their relationship slowly changes, the unlikely attraction between them growing – their sparky exchanges are an absolute joy. Adrián isn’t at all the uptight control freak she thought he was – he has a rather complex history, a passion for the music of the Spanish guitar, and his love for his young son (also waiting at the wedding…) really touches the heart. And he’s also the perfect person to have at your side when everything goes haywire – strong in a crisis, totally unflappable, calmly weighing up the options. And the chemistry between them both is something really special – theirs was a developing relationship I really felt and believed in.

And when they finally reach the castle in Valencia, against all the odds, there are more challenges to face – as well as the bizarre situation, there are undercurrents around the family relationships that add even more satisfying depth to the story. I really have to say that I loved every moment, caught up in the relationship between this lovely couple and really wanting them to have their happy ending – sheer entertainment from beginning to end, but with emotional content that really touched my heart.

My favourite from the author so far? Yes, I really think it might be – I thought it was wonderful, and couldn’t recommend it more highly.

Leonie Mack’s A Wedding in the Sun is a magical romantic read that sparkles with humour, heat and charm.

Jo Watters would sooner stick pins in her eyes than go the her ex-husband’s destination wedding. Her former hubby is marrying a woman who would make a Stepford Wife look shabby and Jo is only attending the nuptials for the sake of her children. Jo is already not looking forward to this wedding and as luck would have it, her ex’s soon-to-be wife’s former husband, the dashing Adrián, is on the same plane as her. Jo thinks this trip couldn’t possibly get any worse – until bad weather forces their plane to make an emergency landing and she ends up sharing a hotel room with Adrián!

The two of them know that they cannot miss this wedding, so they try to do everything they possibly can to get to the ceremony in time. Thrown together by fate in the most unlikely of circumstances, Jo and Adrián start getting to know each other and realise that they’ve got more in common than they thought! Will romance kindle in the most unlikely of settings? Or will Jo and Adrián be too scared to take a leap of faith and a chance on love?

Leonie Mack’s A Wedding in the Sun is a delightful and delicious contemporary romance that I couldn’t read quickly enough! A witty and enchanting grumpy vs sunshine read with two wonderful characters with red-hot chemistry, A Wedding in the Sun is a hugely enjoyable romance by Leonie Mack it is impossible not to swoon over!
