Shojo fans will enjoy the humor, romance, and sci-fi twists found in Translucent, as Shizuka Shiroyama tries to finish the eighth grade while coping with school woes, a hyperactive admirer, and a disease which is literally turning her translucent! In this volume, Shizuka also deals with a nosy new doctor, a friend's emotional wedding, and her growing crush on classmate Mamoru Tadami. While the Translucent Syndrome brings many complications into her life, Shizuka is determined to follow her dreams, support her friends, and live a fairly normal life . . . despite the odd problems that life throws at her.
This was a lovely volume. I really like the plot and story progression. I liked the character development and their interactions. The artwork is simple but nice and it is an easy to read manga. I look forward to reading the next volume.
I'm very happy with the noticeable improvements this series has shown so far! The story in general is improving, the characters are becoming unique (Tadami sort of reminds me of Seki from Tonari no Seki-kun), and the art is slowly but surely getting better.
Chapter 17 really got me in the feels. Shiroyama and Tadami are definitely nearing that cute-almost-couple stage. I hope Shiroyama gets her break as an actress soon.
Story: 4/5 - The improvements are showing, and I'm anticipating the 4th volume will be even better! Art: 3.5/5 - Still could use work, but is steadily improving. Characters: 3.5/5 - They're improving also, becoming more interesting.
Thank you for reading, I hope it helps! I give my honest opinion as detailed as I wish and hope to influence your chances of purchasing the subject under review, whether it is positive or negative.
I love books about teenage love, and this book out of the three so far has a lot of moments between Mamoru Tadami and Shizuka Shiroyama.
Shiroyama-san is like me. Even when she's not translucent, she feels invisible. That's one reason she likes acting so much because some of the attention is directed on her. I feel invisible all of the time, because I'm so quiet. Nobody even notices I'm there. I love to perform ballet because someone can see that I am good at something.
Translucent reminds me a lot of Fruits Basket. There is a "secret" teenage love interest in both books, between Shizuka and Mamoru, and Kyo and Tohru. Everyone around them can see it, but they are too blind to see it for themselves.
This volume keeps the gentle tone of the first two. The story with the doctor literally pushing Shizuka and Tadami around to deal with her own baggage was a little icky, though. -1 star for that alone.
i like all the characters except the doctor. she's touchy, perverted, and weird. i didn't like when she would also try to force her and mamorou together, she needs to just leave them alone. Yea, that doctor annoys me.
This manga is a little all over the place at times. The Principal is just down right creepy and the doctor seems a bit pushy and pervy. Overall, though, I enjoyed it. I would not pay retail to own it but might pay a few dollars.
