Extremely progressive for 1948. Also interesting to have a main character that isn't a good person in this book, when veterans are usually presented as heroes. Makes sense this is an old dime novel though because it has its moments.

Wow. The quote from the back of the book made this book seem like it would be a steamy romance. It wasn't. It was about life post-WWII in this small American town. So many run-on sentences. The characters made horrible decisions and seemed to be content with the horrible decisions they had made. I didn't get it at all.
